Its eighteen authors include eleven writers from philosophy, three from religious studies, and one each from sociology, anthropology, psychology, and law. Quite well organized, the book has three chapters on Background, nine on The Case Against Theism, and six on Implications. It is often interesting and stimulating, and contains a good deal of useful material. But its chapters are of uneven quality, and some will be tough going for beginners. The book also features some internal tensions (perhaps the inevitable result of such a diverse set of contributors). These tensions are not in themselves disturbing and could even be pedagogically useful.

Why would a loving God who is all-powerful and all-knowing create a world like ours which is marred by all manner of evil, suffering and injustice? This question has come to be known as ‘the problem of evil’ and has troubled both ordinary folk and specialist philosophers and theologians for centuries, with no answer seemingly in sight.
However, in a series of publications from the late 1970s onwards, Professor William Rowe – one of the leading philosophers of religion today – has put forward a powerful case in support of the view that the horrors littering our planet constitute strong evidence against the existence of God. In this book, the first extended study of Rowe’s defense of atheism on the basis of evil, Nick Trakakis comprehensively assesses the large body of literature that has developed in response to Rowe’s work, paying particular attention to two strategies employed by critics: firstly, the appeal to mystery – the idea that God may well have reasons for permitting evil that lie beyond our comprehension; and secondly, the appeal to theodicies, where this involves offering explanations as to why God allows evil to abound in his creation (free will theodicies, for example, argue that God could not prevent us from acting wrongly without at the same time curtailing or removing our free will). Trakakis unearths significant difficulties in both strategies, and concludes that – absent any evidence in support of theism – the God of theism must be judged to be "beyond belief".

The clear and well-written articles are informative and should meet the needs of most students. In addition, users will appreciate the thorough indexing and cross-referencing, which make navigation straightforward. Though it has more extensive coverage, World of Genetics [RBB Je 1 & 15 02] lacks suggested readings at the end of each entry and is not as attractively designed. It is aimed at the high-school level and up, while Encyclopedia of Genet ics (Salem, 1999) is designed for use by undergraduates and others with a general understanding of science. Genetics would be a useful resource for middle- and high-school libraries as well as undergraduate and public libraries.

Twelve Lead Electrocardiography for ACLS Providers deals solely with the analysis of the shape (morphology) of ECG waveforms in order to diagnose many conditions not related to rhythm, including ischemia, acute myocardial infarction, and enlargement of heart muscle (hypertrophy). It is aimed at students who already have a familiarity with the analysis of heart rhythms. Almost all other texts of morphologic interpretation for non-cardiologists rely heavily on memorizing electrocardiographic patterns. Memorizing is difficult, and long term retention of memorized data is low. This book is unique because it leads the reader through a set of discrete building blocks of easily understood electrophysiologic principles, and then allows the reader to deduce what the 12 lead electrocardiogram will look like under various circumstances. Over the last half of century interferon (IFN), originally discovered as an antiviral protein, has developed from an inhibitor of viral replication to a major force in the antiviral response. Initially studied only by few virologists, IFN was generally considered as a poorly defined protein of limited importance. The development of molecular techniques lead to the identification of a family of IFN genes and has shown an unexpected complexity of type I IFN genes and their expression. Presently, some aspects of the of the pathogen mediated induction of IFN gene expression are understood at molecular level, while others are still at the stage of description. Both Toll like receptors and cytoplasmic RNA helicases were shown to recognize viral nucleic acids and the basis of a distinct recognition of viral nucleic acids from the cellular ones are emerging. Important insights on the virus recognition entity, leading to the expression of interferon and interferon induced genes, have been made in the recent year, which are challenging the accepted concept of the critical role of dsRNA in IFN induction. The availability of genetically modified mice that are lacking either essential components of the interferon inducing pathway, or interferon signaling pathway fully confirmed the original idea, made soon after its discovery, that interferon is the first cellular defense against viral infection.

Now finally the release of french trio OUTLINES debut album. Behind the project lies producer IRFANE and JEROME HADEY as well as the grafitti artist JAY1, who takes care of all the groups artwork. The album has been coming to fruition for many years and was finished in OUTLINES studio in Clignancourt, north Paris. A very special spirit seems to haunt the streets there as OUTLINES' direct neighbours are the studios of big names DAFT PUNK and CASSIUS. In any case, there's no other place on the musical world map with a comparably optimistic concept of music somewhere between club sounds and pure pop.
And OUTLINES are no exception. Under the guidance of studio mastermind IRFANE they condense electronica, funk, grinding basses and sexy soul jazz guitars into an absolutely compelling mélange the inner core of which is always hip hop. That audacious pathos for which French club-pop is so famous meets an underground sample aesthetic which holds the music back from a too stream-lined form and grounds it in the indie cosmos.
The beats rock without restraint and only know one direction: forwards! Thanks to the playfully detailed and throughout humorous production, this is never at the expense of the listening pleasure. OUTLINES rock the club but still don't forget to take the listener with them.
The first thing one notices on most of the tracks is IRFANE's vocals - and he didn't even want to sing himself to begin with. For Just A Lil’ Lovin he wanted to do a collaboration with CLARA HILL and it was her who got IRFANE to take the mic into his own hands. A real stroke of luck because otherwise we would not get to hear his fresh, charming, soulful performance today.
IRFANE's vocals are rounded off with an impressive selection of other features. Besides ABD AL MALIK and the French hip hop legend BEAT ASSAILANT, the collaboration with the incomparably RZA aka ROBERT DIGGS aka BOBBY DIGITAL, mastermind of hip hop crossover legends the WU-TANG CLAN is most impressive. RZA ensures that Now That I’m Free reaches an even higher level of energy. JEROME HADEY is not just a hip hop DJ; his previous activities as a booker have payed off here as that's how he got in touch with RZA – by the way, he also brought RZA and I:CUBE together...
The OUTLINES album is an important statement and not just in the French music scene. The trio shows that francophone disco pop anno 2007 doesn't just work when dressed up in an 80s costume, rather with their hip-hop and jazz roots they have opened up many doors to the future.

Genre : Drama | RS.com + ftp2share mirrorsAn early Bergman effort, the story of 'Music in Darkness' could, with little difficulty, be transposed to Hollywood in its more sentimental attitudes - a handsome, wealthy, artistic young man becomes blind after an accident during military service; after harrowing experiences of humiliation, exploitation and degradation, he learns to live with his disability, guided by love.
And the young Bergman was not averse to manipulating the melodramatic tricks of Hollywood, although his use of them are satisfyingly sadistic - the tense attempt in the opening sequence of the hero to rescue a puppy who has strayed into the line of an army firing practice - so much sentimental weight is attached to the cute liddel doggie that we barely register what actually transpires, the shooting of a human being; the near-Hitchcockian sequence where the hero, abandoned by a blind acquaintance, stumbles onto a railway line, with a train approaching behind him.
Hollywood films dealing with disability have two functions - to wrest easy tears from an audience that generally, thankfully, doesn't have to deal with that kind of trauma in real life; and to chart the process of socialisation of an unwitting outsider, to bring a model citizen alienated by experience back into the fold. Bergman isn't really interested in either of these things - his snobbish hero is not easy to warm to, and the promised socialisation at the end is distinctly ambiguous, and not sanctioned by many of the community members. Where a Hollywood film might close with the exultant union of the disabled person and his lover, Bergman ends with an uncomfortable coda, where the lovers must put their decision to the social test, and where the future stumbling blocks are disconcertingly laid out. It is anxiety we feel for the lovers and their uncertainty, not a rosy, complacent glow.
Even at this stage in his career, Bergman has other interests. It is remarkable, in a genre film, how many of the themes, figures and motifs of his later masterpieces are present - the artist hero, whose journey with his art paralells a kind of spiritual or interior struggle; the difficulties of even the best-intentioned heterosexual relationships, battered not only by external circumstances, but by pride, whim, cruelty, self-pity etc.; the obstacles of family and organised religion; the mirroring of a physical disability with interior deterioration.
Bergman's most characteristic work is identified by the tension between (emotional) excess in content and extreme austerity in form. His early melodramas, conversely, are expressionist extravaganzas, with their heavy use of twisted camera angles, shadows, deep focus and obtrusive music. Expressionism is generally a projection of interior states on the external world - what is interesting here is that the hero has no vision of any sort to colour the real world, so that the expressionism is a genuine interior projection, and the play of light and darkness in the mise-en-scene, the heightened artificiality of certain scenes (e.g. his reunion with Ingrid in a fogged wood) all attest to his journey in a more honest way than the conventional plot.
Bergman charts this journey as a kind of spiritual pilgrim's progress - in his first dream/vision after his accident, as well as meeting big fish and sirens, Bengt is dragged down into a hellish slime, by disembodied hands - if we remember Dante's 'Inferno', Hell is defined by darkness.
The film's central section, where the hero's blindness is tested in social situations, where he is rejected as an artist, forced to find employment with thieves and grotesques who rob him, where, through his own class idiocy he loses the girl he loves, is a kind of Purgatory, where he must purify himself of the moral flaws the world had inculcated in him, where he becomes genuinely humble and selfless.
Heaven is concentrated in the marriage - there is a genuine spiritual bond between the two lovers, from encouragement Ingrid gives him at the funeral even though he doesn't know she's there, to her sense that he is in trouble with the train. After all, the woman who brings them together is called Beatrice! Needless to say, Bergman is less religiously ecstatic than Dante. (

Minor Bergman, but certainly worth a download and a look. You can already spot several themes that the master would develop thoroughly later on.

The is a horror movie, in the wake of The Ring (Ringu). The main character is a journalist (as in Ringu) who has written a series of articles about sex offenders which has brought down on her some dangerous people who have been exposed in the scandal. When she changes her cellphone number to escape her tormentors she ends up with a number with special significance - 6644. From this point on she ends up getting very weird phone calls and after each one, she experiences increasingly violent visions.

Seo-woo EunThe movie is very derivative, this is true. But which horror movie isn't? Dismissing a horror-flick and saying "This movie from 1954 has the same thing" is stupid. You can always find some older work which is similar or even the same. It's no mean feat. What's important in a horror movie is one thing: is it scary? My answer is: it is.
I was very skeptical at first and found the opening scene to be almost dull. But the enterprise takes off, most of all with the incredible performance of the little girl who can turn from sweet little angel to devlish banshee on a dime. If for no other reason, go see it and you'll have to agree that she is completely believable as possessed.
I also believe that the story is richer if less original than the Ring. It is also a very well made without much special effects or gore. It relies heavily on acting and suspense and does this well.

On the other hand, the biblical tradition does not challenge human power structures by attempting to dismantle them or replace them with other power structures. Le petit spirou, c'est le grand quand il était petit...
Nous ne savons pas l'age du petit spirou, mais il semble être àl'école primaire, donc il doit avoir entre 6 et 10 ans.
C'est un petit enfant téméraire et un peu casse coup. Le temps qu'il ne passe pas àl'école il le passe souvent avec ses copains. Le reste du temps le petit spirou est avec sa petite famille qui est assez restreinte.
Pour ce qui est de l'école, le petit spirou n'est pas très brillant, surtout en sport où il se montre des plus mauvais.
Son meilleur copain c'est Vert', avec lui c'est àla vie àla mort. Sa petite amie s'appelle Suzette, et le petit spirou doit faire très attention àelle car elle est très susceptible et quelque fois jalouse aussi.
Dans chaque album, le petit spirou nous dévoile un peu de sa vie privée, alors quelles histoires incroyables nous prépare t-il pour le prochain album?
