George III: King and Politicians 1760-1770
Manchester University Press | 2003-02-08| ISBN: 0719064295 | 272 pages | PDF | 2,2 MB
In this fascinating book the author discusses the political story of the first decade of the reign of George III, one of the most controversial figures in modern British history. George III has often been blamed for the loss of Britain’s American colonies in an attempt to restore royal power. Peter D.G. Thomas confirms Namier’s findings that George III was not seeking to advance royal power and throws light on the extent to which a system of party politics existed at the time. Although the structure of British politics revealed by Namier provides the setting for this study, America, India, and Ireland are also considered here as important issues of the time.

They bankrolled wars, were the impetus behind the building of the first transcontinental railroad system, and fueled a fledgling nation’s grandiose dreams of empire. S&M Allen, J. P. Morgan & Co., Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers...they were the great Wall Street partnerships, and for well over a century, through a combination of financial genius, political chicanery, and the audacity of Caesars, they wielded unprecedented influence over the business, financial, and political landscapes of a nation.

In Addicted to Oil Ian Rutledge explores the political, economic and social ramifications of the motorization of the US economy and examines the ways in which America's dependence on the car has created oil needs which have heavily influenced US foreign policy. Rutledge argues that the invasion and occupation of Iraq was primarily an attempt to create a pliant and dependable oil protectorate in that troubled region which would underwrite the soaring demand from America's hyper-motorized consumers.

Spyderco Story: The New Shape of Sharp
Paladin Press| 2000-01-01 | ISBN: 1581600607 | 312pages | PDF | 9,2 MB
Like the knives it produces, Spyderco is an unusual company. A relative newcomer to the world of knifemaking, the small, Golden, Colorado-based business launched in 1976 did things differently from the start - and managed to take the knife world by storm in just a few decades. In this book, discover the history and inner workings of the company whose design innovations have redefined the shape of the modern folding knife and taken high-performance cutting to a new level. Find out how these odd-shaped knives with the hole and the hump in the blade have made opening and carry more efficient, as well as how individual models have met the specialized needs of EMTs, police officers, hunters, soldiers, survivalists and more. Spyderco aficionado Ken Delavigne covers each product in detail - from Clipit folders and fixed-blade knives to custom collaborations to sharpeners - describing how it was developed and why, what real-life problem it solved and the design elements that make it unique. In addition, he explores the technical frontiers where Spyderco has made so many inroads and previews what's on the drawing board for the new millennium. Finally, he offers insight into the uncommon business philosophy and management style that have allowed Spyderco to achieve such legendary success.

The Ardennes Offensive US III & XII Corps: Southern Sector (Order of Battle)
Osprey Publishing | 2001-04 | ISBN: 185532914X| 96 pages | PDF | 42,2 MB
On 16 December 1944 the German Army launched an attack through the Ardennes region of Belgium, aimed at splitting the Allied armies in two. General George Patton's response to the German breakthrough was, 'Hell, let's have the guts to let the sons of bitches go all the way to Paris. Then we'll really cut 'em up.' At a meeting on 19 December Eisenhower asked Patton how quickly he could counterattack. Confidently he answered; 'On 22 December with three divisions.' On 22 December 4 Armored Division began the drive to Bastogne. This title provides a highly detailed unit by unit breakdown of the Allied forces in the southern sector of the 'bulge'. With Patton's counterattack, the scene was set for a classic showdown: this title guides the reader in full detail through the clashes that followed.

Black Thursday by Martin Caidin
Bantam | May 1987 | ISBN: 0553267299 | HTML & PICS in RAR | 3,3Mb
In this book, the eminent historian Martin Caidin concentrates on one of the most brutal air battles in history-Schweinfurt. At a time when the B-17's flew with little or no fighter escort, and the German Luftwaffe had not yet been all but chased from the sky, the 8th Air Force launched a raid on the ball-bearing plants at Schweinfurt, Germany. The result is a story that is at once tragic and heroic. This is a well-researched book, full of first-person accounts of the battle. It reads like a good thriller and leaves the reader with a new respect and appreciation for the brave men on both sides who fought their war five miles above the earth not so many years ago. Highly recommended reading for anyone interested in the air war.

Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection | ISBN 0884022773 | 2001 | PDF | 6.6 MB | 337 pages
| “ | The Crusades from the Perspective of Byzantium and the Muslim World is the result of scholarly reassessments of the Crusades. The views expressed here complement the other examinations that focused on the internal and Western aspects of the movement on the nine-hundredth anniversary of the Council of Clermont. The volume opens with an introduction to the historiography of the Crusades, followed by wide-ranging discussions covering four topics: holy war in Byzantium and Islam; the approaches and attitudes of the various peoples affected by and involved in the Crusades; the movement's effect on the economies of the eastern Mediterranean; and the influence of the Crusades on the art and architecture of the East. | ” |

J. F. C. Hecker "The Black Death & Dancing Mania"
PDF | ISBN not applicable | Year 1888 | 123 pages | English | 1.6MB
The Black Death, or the Black Plague, was one of the most deadly pandemics in human history, widely thought to have been caused by a bacterium named Yersinia pestis. It probably began in Central Asia and spread to Europe by the late 1340s. The total number of deaths worldwide from the pandemic is estimated at 75 million people. Dancing mania was a phenomenon that occurred primarily in mainland Europe from the 14th century through to the 17th century, in which groups of people would dance through the streets of towns or cities, sometimes foaming at the mouth or speaking in tongues, until they collapsed from exhaustion.

It seems that official history prepared by the various US Government branches and departments is highly prone to being ignored by the mainstream press and even the specialist press concerned with these matters may overlook them. Even though the US Government Printing Office is one of the most professional outfits I know of in preparing and presenting manuscripts, its marketing seems to be greatly lacking. Whether this is due to congressional policy or not I have not a clue.

Princeton University Press (1998) | English | ISBN 0691059411 | 224 pages | PDF | 2.13 MB
The impact of technology-enhanced mass death in the twentieth century, argues Zachary Braiterman, has profoundly affected the future shape of religious thought. In his provocative book, the author shows how key Jewish theologians faced the memory of Auschwitz by rejecting traditional theodicy, abandoning any attempt to justify and vindicate the relationship between God and catastrophic suffering.

Charles Foley, "Commando Extraordinary"
Legion for the Survival of Freedom | March 1992 | ISBN: 093948207X | 244 Pages | HTML & PICS in RAR | 0,4Mb
This is one of the more thorough examinations of the life of one of World War II Germany's most colourful characters. Otto Skorzeny is practically unknown outside the realm of Military History, and has never really been bought to the public eye. Though this book was written in the 1950's, before some of Skorzeny's prolific post-war activities, Foley manages to conduct one of the most thorough and justified examinations to date of Skorzeny. he gets inside the subject's head, consulting him, his colleagues and his enemies, giving a well researched and detailed account of Skorzeny's early career and famous exploits. A certain degree of bias must be accepted, due to Skorzeny's influence in writing the book, but it is still a classic. A must for anyone interested in the subject of WWII commando operations, and the one which all other authors on Skorzeny quote.

Imperial Hubris
Potomac Books Inc. | 2004-06-29 | ISBN: 1574888498 | 352 pages | PDF | 1,3 MB
The war on terror has created near unanimity on many points, at least within the American press and political leadership. One essential point of agreement: al Qaeda specifically and radical Islamism in general are stirred by a hatred of modernity. Or as President George W. Bush has articulated repeatedly, they hate freedom. Nonsense, responds the nameless author of this work and 2003's Through Our Enemies' Eyes (the senior U.S. intelligence official's identity became an open secret by publication date). Indeed, he grimly and methodically discards common wisdom throughout this scathing and compelling take on counterterrorism. Imperial Hubris is not a book that will cheer Americans, regardless of their perspectives on the post-9/11 environment. We are, the author notes, losing the war on terror.

Science and Islam (Greenwood Guides to Science and Religion)
Greenwood Press | 2007-03-30 | ISBN: 0313335761 |272 pages | PDF | 2,1 MB
Science and Islam provides a detailed account of the relationship between Islam and science from the emergence of the Islamic scientific tradition in the eighth century to the present time. This relationship has gone through three distinct phases. The first phase began with the emergence of science in the Islamic civilization in the eighth century and ended with the rise of modern science in the West; the second period is characterized by the arrival of modern science in the Muslim world, most of which at that time was under colonial occupation; and the third period, which began around 1950, is characterized by a more mature approach to the major questions that modern science has posed for all religious traditions. Based on primary sources, the book presents a panorama of Islamic views on some of the major issues in the current science and religion discourse. Written in accessible language, Science and Islam is an authentic account of the multi-faceted and complex issues that arise at the interface of Islamic intellectual tradition and science. Rich in historical details, the book is a fascinating survey of the interaction of Islamic beliefs with the enterprise of science.

Bolshevism: The Enemy of Political and Industrial Democracy (Dodo Press)
Dodo Press | 2008-02-22 | ISBN: 140657600X | 344 pages | PDF | 4,6 MB
John Spargo (1876-1966) was a British progressivist writer and muckraker whose exposé The Bitter Cry of Children explores the living conditions of children in poverty stricken households. As a young man he trained as a stonecutter, and became a lay Methodist minister. He was attracted to the socialist doctrines of early English marxist Henry Hyndman and would serve on the executive council of the Social Democratic Federation before immigrating to New York City in 1901, and to Vermont in 1909. He became a leader of the Socialist Party of America and wrote an early English-language biography of Karl Marx. Later, he formed the Social Democratic League of America. He would become the Director-Curator of the Bennington, Vermont Historical Museum and write several books on ceramics. He researched and wrote a booklet on the history of his family name. He also wrote Socialism: A Summary and Interpretation of Socialist Principles (1906), The Common Sense of Socialism (1908), Bolshevism: The Enemy of Political and Industrial Democracy (1919) and The Marx He Knew (1909).
