Руны славян и глаголица
2010 | А.В. Платов, Н.Н. Таранов | Вече | ISBN: 978 5953344876 | руcский | PDF or DjVu | 362 pages | 21.2 Mb or 14.0 Mb

2009 | Н. В. Кривцов | Вече | ISBN: 978 5953330138 | руcский | PDF or DjVu | 288 pages | 19.5 Mb or 7.5 Mb

Maurice R. Berube, "Beyond Modernism and Postmodernism: Essays on the Politics of Culture"
Publisher: Bergin & Garvey | PDF | 2001 | ISBN 0897898052 | 152 pages | 10.1 Mb
Berube examines the political matrix of intellectual and cultural America. In a wide-ranging series of essays from the rise of the postmodern intellectual to a modernist appreciation of the spiritual quality of the paintings of Jackson Pollock, Berube stakes out his claim that all areas of human endeavor are rooted in a politics of culture. The essay collection is divided into three sections: The first two essays deal with the postmodern intellectual and the corporate university; the second section plumbs the depth of a conservative school reform movement and asks whether we have not reached an end to education reform. The last section contains essays pertaining to precarious state of arts education in the schools, reflections on a modernist literary canon, the contribution of Pollock and plumbing alternative views of Jesus as the penultimate revolutionary. Of particular interest to scholars, students, and other researchers involved with cultural studies and education.

George Lakoff , "Whose Freedom? - The Battle Over America's Most Important Idea"
Publisher: Farrar, Straus and Giroux | PDF | 2006 | ISBN 0374158282 | 287 pages | 10.2 Mb
Since September 11, 2001, the Bush administration has relentlessly invoked the word freedom. The United States can strike preemptively because freedom is on the march. Social security should be privatized in order to protect individual freedoms. In the 2005 presidential inaugural speech, the words freedom, free, and liberty were used forty-nine times. Freedom is one of the most contested words in American political discourse, the keystone to the domestic and foreign policy battles that are racking this polarized nation. For many Democrats, it seems that President Bush s use of the word is meaningless and contradictory deployed opportunistically to justify American military action abroad and the curtailing of civil liberties at home. But in Whose Freedom?, George Lakoff, an adviser to the Democratic party, shows that in fact the right has effected a devastatingly coherent and ideological redefinition of freedom. The conservative revolution has remade freedom in its own image and deployed it as a central weapon on the front lines of everything from the war on terror to the battles over religion in the classroom and abortion.

Joshua D. Zimmerman, "Poles, Jews, and the Politics of Nationality: The Bund and the Polish Socialist Party in Late Czarist Russia, 1892--1914"
Publisher: University of Wisconsin Press | PDF | 2003 | ISBN 0299194604 | 380 pages | 10.4 Mb
The Jewish experience on Polish lands is often viewed backwards through the lens of the Holocaust and the ethnic rivalries that escalated in the period between the two world wars. Critical to the history of Polish-Jewish relations, however, is the period prior to World War I when the emergence of mass electoral politics in Czarist Russia led to the consolidation of modern political parties. Using sources published in Polish, Yiddish, Hebrew, and Russian, Joshua D. Zimmerman has compiled a full-length English-language study of the relations between the two dominant progressive movements in Russian Poland. He examines the Polish Socialist Party (PPS), which sought social emancipation and equal civil rights for minority nationalities, including Jews, under a democratic Polish republic, and the Jewish Labor Bund, which declared that Jews were a nation distinct from Poles and Russians and advocated cultural autonomy. By 1905, the PPS abandoned its call for Jewish assimilation, and recognized Jews as a separate nationality. Zimmerman demonstrates persuasively that Polish history in Czarist Russia cannot be fully understood without studying the Jewish influence and that Jewish history was equally infused with the Polish influence.

Brenda Gayle, "Window on Freedom: Race, Civil Rights, and Foreign Affairs, 1945-1988"
Publisher: The University of North Carolina Press | PDF | 2003 | ISBN 080785428X | 268 pages | 10.4 Mb
The civil rights movement in the United States drew strength from supporters of human rights worldwide. Once policy makers--influenced by international pressure, the courage of ordinary American citizens, and a desire for global leadership--had signed such documents as the United Nations charter, domestic calls for change could be based squarely on the moral authority of doctrines the United States endorsed abroad. This is one of the many fascinating links between racial politics and international affairs explored in Window on Freedom. Broad in chronological scope and topical diversity, the ten original essays presented here demonstrate how the roots of U.S. foreign policy have been embedded in social, economic, and cultural factors of domestic as well as foreign origin. They argue persuasively that the campaign to realize full civil rights for racial and ethnic minorities in America is best understood in the context of competitive international relations. The contributors are Carol Anderson, Donald R. Culverson, Mary L. Dudziak, Cary Fraser, Gerald Horne, Michael Krenn, Paul Gordon. Lauren, Thomas Noer, Lorena Oropeza, and Brenda Gayle Plummer.

Constantine P. Danopoulos, Cynthia Watson, "The Political Role of the Military: An International Handbook"
Publisher: Greenwood Press | PDF | 1996 | ISBN 0313288372 | 534 pages | 10.6 Mb
In Western, developing, and totalitarian countries alike, the armed forces are powerful political organizations that play key roles in domestic politics. Yet, the literature on civilian-military relations provides few comparative examinations of the military's political role. In 27 chapters devoted to representative countries, this handbook looks at the varying roles the military plays around the world. Political role is defined as substantial and purposeful involvement in the making and allocating of wealth and social and political values. Using this definition, each chapter traces the historical background of civil-military relations in the country, identifies and analyzes the processes the military uses to exert political influence, evaluates the success and results of the military's political role, and projects future developments. As with any dynamic, organic body, the armed services in various countries change quickly and sometimes upredictably. The purpose of this book is beyond merely reporting whether a particular military is in the barracks as the 20th century draws to a close. Rather, the book offers analyses on the role that militaries have played in their societies, the historical forces that have shaped those roles, the socioeconomic constraints on them in the past, present, and anticipated in the future, and the current positions that armed forces have occupied in the last decade of the century.

Edward Lorenz, Bengt-Ake Lundvall, "How Europe's Economies Learn: Coordinating Competing Models"
Publisher: Oxford University Press | PDF | 2007 | ISBN 0199203199 | 470 pages | 11.1 Mb
When seeking to bench mark the performance of European economies, commentators often look to compare them to the economies of Japan and the United States. How Europe's Economies Learn shows how this is seriously misleading, and how any such comparison needs to be complemented with an understanding of the fundamental differences between Europe's economies. The contributors provide an up-to-date description and analysis of the way differences in state systems and institutional contexts, such as labour markets, education and training systems, and financial systems, shape learning processes and innovation performance across the member nations of the European Union. In doing so, it draws important conclusion for how policy strategies should be designed at the national and European levels in order to further promote the goals of the Lisbon process.

Elmer Plischke, "U.S. Department of State: A Reference History"
Publisher: Greenwood Press | PDF | 1999 | ISBN 0313291268 | 806 pages | 11.2 Mb
This reference history describes and analyzes the State Department and Foreign Service of the United States. It also outlines the history of three major State Department functions, namely, the treatymaking process and record, representation in international conferences, and participation in international organizations and other agencies. The volume covers more than two centuries--from the genesis of American diplomacy to the 1990s. Unlike other works, this volume deals with such matters as departmental organization and management; personnel and staffing; administrative practices, reform, and reorganization; and the Department's operations, functions, principal and other officers, and problems. The volume consists of eight chapters, extensively footnoted, each of which focuses on successive periods grouped in four major historical eras. Tables are designed to serve as further reference for long-range historical analysis and exploration. The book is supplemented with three appendixes and a comprehensive bibliography. A complete and up-to-date major reference, this will be an asset to the reference collections of both academic and public libraries.

Michael McKeon The Secret History of Domesticity: Public, Private, and the Division of Knowledge
Johns Hopkins University Press | 2006 | ISBN: 080188540X | 904 pages | PDF | 16,3 MB
Taking English culture as its representative sample, The Secret History of Domesticity asks how the modern notion of the public-private relation emerged in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Treating that relation as a crucial instance of the modern division of knowledge, Michael McKeon narrates its pre-history along with that of its essential component, domesticity.
A capacious and synthetic historical investigation, The Secret History of Domesticity exemplifies how the methods of literary interpretation and historical analysis can inform and enrich one another.
