Summary: Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients
Rating: 5
This is an excellent book that contains every phamaceutical excipient that I have ever had the need to know about. I work for a dietary supplement manufacturer and we quite often get calls from customers that want to know all about all those "other ingredients" that are listed on product cartons. The book has a section for each excipient and each excipient has the following sections: Nonproprietary Names, Synonyms, Chemical Name and CAS Registry Number, Empirical Formula and Molecular Weight, Structural Formula, Functional Category, Applications in Pharmaceutical Formulation or Technology, Description, Pharmacopeial Specifications, Typical Properties, stability and Storage Conditions, Incompatibilities, Method of Manufacture, Safety, Handling Precautions, Regulatory Status, Pharmacopeias, Related Substances, Comments, Specific References, General References, and Authors. While I have a background in Biology, I found several of the sections to be easy to understand by several of our employees that do not have a science background. While, still, there was highly technical/scientific information as well. Each excipient’s information is contained in 2-4 pages. The book is arranged alphabetically which makes finding information easy. In addition, it contains an index that is very well constructed. For example: If you are looking for an Emulsifying Agent, the index lists all the excipients that can be used for that purpose. I can’t say enough how easy this book is to use. Its information is pared down to the essential text, and is chocked full of graphs, charts and microscopic photos of the excipients.

Martindale: The Complete Drug Reference, 36th Edition
By Sean C. Sweetman
Publisher: Pharmaceutical Press
Number Of Pages: 3694
Publication Date: 2009-03-16
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0853698406
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780853698401
Product Description:
This book provides reliable, unbiased and evaluated information on drugs and medicines used throughout the world. Each new drug licensed for use has its own potential benefits and adverse effects, and its own profile for dosage, administration and indications. Furthermore, manufacturers make regular changes to existing drug names and formulations, which can affect their interactions and safe usage. Health professionals require the correct answers and need to have confidence in the drugs information they use – but with medicines evolving at this rate, how can they be sure their knowledge is up to date? "Martindale" contains up to date information about more than 5,800 substances. Each and every entry is reviewed by our pharmaceutical editors to ensure health professionals have the most current data. Formulations change. Definitions change. Names change. But you can always trust "Martindale".
Summary: Good reference to have
Rating: 4
This is a good reference to have on your bookcase if you are a pharmacist or doctor. Theres lots of information that is hard to find in other references.
Summary: A good place to find descriptions of genuinely obscure drugs
Rating: 5
This book contains references to some drugs that I couldn’t find anywhere else. Drugs that are no longer in common use, that are used exclusively outside the US, or that have toxicity levels that are normally unacceptable may still find a listing in Martindale. The index is very thorough. I had only two complaints: 1) I don’t understand why some drugs information is dropped when new editions come out — I would rather see the book simply grow, rather than sometimes requiring access to older editions, and 2) it doesn’t present molecular structures (sigh). Still, the opportunity to find information that is otherwise simply unavailable (try to find dosing schedules for potassium bromide elsewhere, to pick an example) outweighs any complaints.
Summary: A must have for anyone in the nedical community.
Rating: 5
Great reference for any pharmaceutical drug. Complete and accurate information that can help in a variety of problems.

Publisher: Pharmaceutical Press
Number Of Pages: 400
Publication Date: 2009-07-24
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0853697604
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780853697602
Product Description:
This is a professional level major reference work containing information, in A-Z format, on herb-drug, herb-supplement, herb -food and herb-laboratory test interactions; all of which is data referenced. Commercial herbal medicinal products are increasingly consumed on a regular basis by people in the developed world. Often such products are taken concurrently with conventional medicines, frequently without the knowledge of health care professionals. As more evidence has become available, there has been an increasing awareness of the potential and actual problems of interactions, often dangerous, between conventional medicines and herbal medicines. This proposed new major reference brings together available data on approximately 200 of the most commonly used herbal medicines in highly structured, rigorously scientific monographs. Although our texts on herbal medicines and drug interactions include the major well-known interactions, this text is able to treat the subject in considerably more detail.

Product Description:
A True Insider’s Guide to the Field – Then and Now
Until now, there has not been a book that effectively addresses the historical basis of protein discovery. Featuring contributions from a distinguished international panel of experts, Protein Discovery Technologies elucidates the principles, techniques, strategies, and broad range of applications of protein discovery by documenting the often untold stories and personal accounts of the contributors’ past scientific achievements.
Incorporates Short, Personal Discovery Vignettes
Rather than an exhaustive field analysis, this globally pertinent resource presents in-depth discussions of various methods for protein discovery, including bioinformatics, interaction cloning, protein purification, phage display, non-primate models, and chemical targeting. It also explores biological themes through the examination of cell death, angiogenesis, hemostasis, development, signal transduction, transcriptional control, cell cycle control, neurobiology, and quality control.
This readily accessible resource discusses an array of interesting topics, including:
Tumor necrosis factors
The origin of interferon as an angiogenesis inhibitor
In vivo combinatorial mapping of vascular zip codes
Extracellular matrix degradome as regulators of angiogenesis and tumor growth
A matricellular protein prototype
The use of RING finger proteins as E3 Ubiquitin Ligases
Whereas most books tend to be more specialized, this book contains a broad view of the protein discoveries in many different fields, making Protein Discovery Technologies a valuable reference for today’s researchers, both the new and more seasoned, who are seeking a newfound perspective or a deeper understanding of this exciting field.

Product Description:
Epothilones have received unusual attention over the past ten years. They are novel antitumor drugs which very much like their predecessor paclitaxel (Taxol) act via microtubule stabilization. In comparison to paclitaxel and a number of alternative drugs with a similar mode of bioaction (e.g. laulimalide, eleutherobin, peluroside, discodermolide) the epothilones have significant advantages, above all very high activity in the nanomolar range and low susceptibility towards multidrug resistance. Epothilone B and several derivatives thereof are in phase I-III clinical trials; one of them (ixabepilone, BMS) is already on the market, others are supposed to appear on the market in the near future. All naturally occurring epothilones have been isolated from Sorangium cellulosum; their antitumor action is traced back to the stabilization of microtubules. In consequence, the formation of the mitototic spindle is prohibited and the cell undergoes apoptosis.

LSD
By Otto Snow
Paperback: 246 pages
Publisher: Thoth Press (November 2003)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0966312848
ISBN-13: 978-0966312843
Product Description:
At age 15, Otto developed hemi-paraesthesic migraine headaches. These cluster migraines resemble a stroke. He was given narcotics, barbiturates and ergot alkaloids. The drugs were making him ill. He learned of a new medication that might help. The drug was LSD-25 and it worked.
His physicians would not prescribe LSD so Otto entered the world of LSD. Several laboratories provided him and other patients with the medication. Included are comments and research from the greatest scientists of the twentieth century. Personal satori experiences. At nineteen, Otto discontinued his exploration of LSD.
LSD is the most comprehensive book ever written on the synthesis of LSD. Otto includes the reactions and the chemistry behind the reactions. Many simplified reactions (e.g. diethylamine from vodka, lysergic acid directly from Claviceps sugar culture, coupling agents from scratch). Extractions translated to English.
LSD is written by someone who has been there and knows the subject/chemistry first hand. LSD is as popular today as it was in the 1970s and 1960s. For many it is a party drug, for others it is a medication. The Decade of the Brain heralded in a new interest in psychedelics and their medical application.
The book is illustrated by Tulasne, Chase, Gill and others. LSD is packed with chemistry for future generations of neurochemists and explorers. 275 references. UV laminated.
