M. Rubinstein, Ralph H. Colby, “Polymer Physics”
Oxford University Press | ISBN: 019852059X | June 26, 2003 | DJVU | 454 pages | 3441 KB
This is a polymer physics textbook for upper level undergraduates and first year graduate students. Any student with a working knowledge of calculus, physics and chemistry should be able to read this book. The essential tools of the polymer physical chemist or engineer are derived in this book without skipping any steps. The book is a self-contained treatise that could also serve as a useful reference for scientists and engineers working with polymers. While no prior knowledge of polymers is assumed, the book goes far beyond introductory polymer texts in the scope of what is covered. The fundamental concepts required to fully understand polymer melts, solutions and gels in terms of both static structure and dynamics are explained in detail. Problems at the end of each Chapter provide the reader with the opportunity to apply what has been learned to practice. The book is divided into four parts. After an introduction in Chapter 1, where the necessary concepts from a first course on polymers are summarized, the conformations of single polymer chains are treated in Part 1. Part 2 deals with the thermodynamics of polymer solutions and melts, including the conformations of chains in those states. Part 3 applies the concepts of Part 2 to the formation and properties of polymer networks. Finally, Part 4 explains the essential aspects of how polymers move in both melt and solution states. In all cases, attention is restricted to concepts that are firmly entrenched in the field.

Diagnosis and Management of Pituitary Tumors
Humana Press | 0896034038 | Edition - 2001-01-15 | PDF | 479 pages| 10.2 MB
Eminent clinicians and specialists thoroughly review in great detail every aspect of pituitary tumors. The topics covered include prolactinomas, somatotroph adenomas, corticotroph adenomas, thyrotroph adenomas, nonfunctioning tumors, pituitary tumors, invasive adenomas, and pituitary carcinomas, as well as lesions, exclusive of pituitary adenomas, that occur in the sellar region. Also discussed are the new methods in endocrine diagnosis, high resolution imaging, receptor-mediated pharmacotherapy, microsurgical techniques, improved methods of radiation delivery, and the development of a precise and physiologically meaningful classification of pituitary tumors. Much-needed and brilliantly multidisciplinary, Diagnosis and Management of Pituitary Tumors offers all those dealing with pituitary cancer patients today’s most comprehensive guide to diagnosis and treatment, one whose coordinated treatment strategies have sharply improved long-term survival rates for many patients.

M. Holt, Alcohol: A Social and Cultural History
Berg Publishers | ISBN 1845201663 | 2006 | PDF | 0.8 MB | 257 pages
This book examines our relationship with alcohol and examines how drink has evolved in its functions and uses from the late Middle Ages to the present day in the West. This book discusses a range of issues, including domestic versus recreational use, the history of alcoholism, and the relationship between alcohol and violence, religion, sexuality, and medicine. It looks at how certain forms of alcohol speak about class, gender, and place. Drawing on examples from Europe, North America, and Australia, this book provides a comprehensive history of the role of alcohol over the past five centuries.

In Vitro Transcription and Translation Protocols Second Edition (Methods in Molecular Biology, Vol 375)
Humana Press| 1588295583 | Edition - 2007 | PDF | 276 pages | 3.46 MB
A highly anticipated update of the previous edition, In Vitro Transcription and Translation Protocols, Second Edition, provides molecular biology laboratories with the most powerful techniques for exploiting in vitro transcription and translation systems. In Section One: Technologies, authors discuss the use of alternative energy systems for ATP regeneration, the efficient in vitro production of integral membrane proteins, and the high-throughput production of protein libraries using the innovative single-molecule PRC-linked in vitro expression (SIMPLEX) technology. In Section Two: Applications, authors present in vitro translation of amplified protease gene from HIV patients to select proper anti-protease drug therapy, in vitro translation of genes from human patients to diagnose biologically relevant gene mutations, use of SIMPLEX technology to select enantioselective lipases from libraries of randomly produced lipase mutants, and the in vitro transcription and translation to identify proteins in 2D-maps.
