This book is the story of how four busy executives, from different backgrounds and different perspectives, were surprised to find themselves converging on the idea of narrative as an extraordinarily valuable lens for understanding and managing organizations in the twenty-first century. The idea that narrative and storytelling could be so powerful a tool in the world of organizations was initially counter-intuitive. But in their own words, John Seely Brown, Steve Denning, Katalina Groh, and Larry Prusak describe how they came to see the power of narrative and storytelling in their own experience working on knowledge management, change management, and innovation strategies in organizations such as Xerox, the World Bank, and IBM.

Posted: November 17th, 2008, 5:58pm CET by sthomas

The book introduces the concept of narrative intelligence—an ability to understand and act and react agilely in the quicksilver world of interacting narratives. It shows why this is key to the central task of leadership, what its dimensions are, and how you can measure it. The book's lucid explanations, vivid examples and practical tips are essential reading for CEOs, managers, change agents, marketers, salespersons, brand managers, politicians, teachers, parents—anyone who is setting out to the change the world.

The LEADER’S GUIDE to STORYTELLING • STEPHEN DENNING

Product Description
In his best-selling book, Squirrel Inc., former World Bank executive and master storyteller Stephen Denning used a tale to show why storytelling is a critical skill for leaders. Now, in this hands-on guide, Denning explains how you can learn to tell the right story at the right time. Whoever you are in the organization CEO, middle management, or someone on the front lines you can lead by using stories to effect change. Filled with myriad examples, A Leader’s Guide to Storytelling shows how storytelling is one of the few available ways to handle the principal and most difficult challenges of leadership: sparking action, getting people to work together, and leading people into the future. The right kind of story at the right time, can make an organization “stunningly vulnerable” to a new idea.

As a concept, storytelling has won a decisive foothold in the debate on how brands of the future will be shaped. Yet, companies are still confused as to how and why storytelling can make a difference to their business. What is the point of telling stories anyway? What makes a good story? And how do you go about telling it so that it supports the company brand? This book is written for practitioners by practitioners. Through real life examples, simple guidelines and practical tools, the book aims to inspire companies to use storytelling as a means of building their brand - internally as well as externally.

Real Estate Investment in Asia Pacific: Migrating Capital
KPMG | 2008 | English | PDF | 70 pages | 4 MB
Property investment has emerged as an asset class, but it remains difficult to access and is often beset by complex structures and regulation. The factors governing investment decisions differ greatly from one market to another.
Developed jurisdictions such as Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore all have well defined and strictly governed real estate markets, often competing to attract investment from institutional investors with an Asian property mandate. The other end of the spectrum sees frontier markets such as Vietnam, China and India closely studying regulatory frameworks in the rest of the region as a guide to establish their own viable marketplace for international real estate investors.

Many would–be software entrepreneurs with expertise in many fields attempt to turn a homegrown application—one developed for use in their own business or profession—into a commercial product. Lack of knowledge, experience, or skills often prevents the idea from ever taking shape, let alone achieving its potential. Entering a new field to start a business leaves many developers unprepared and not even fully aware it’s something they know so little about. They will also often have a job that conflicts with the time commitment required to market the program well enough for it to become a complete success.

Sustainable Value: How the World's Leading Companies Are Doing Well by Doing Good
Stanford University Press |2008|ISBN 978-0-8047-5963-2 | English | 28 pages | PDF | 1.2 MB
Sustainable Value is divided into three parts. Part I is a management fable about Deena, a young CEO, and the challenges she faces to profitably address her company’s impacts on society and the environment. Her story is one of personal empowerment, of finding balance and connection to what is important in life. It’s also a tale of corporate profit and growth.
What makes Deena’s story unique is that her eventual success—personal, financial, and corporate—is the result of “doing good.” She is a talented but ordinary human being who demonstrates leadership in a time of heightened global problems ranging from poverty to the energy crisis and climate change.

Markets are changing fast. New markets are emerging, trading blocks are
extending and communications channels about products and selling them are
changing at a revolutionary pace. The signs of this change are everywhere in this
text. Many people will use Principles of Marketing alongside its associated CDROM,
Interactive Marketing. An increasing number of references are now Website
addresses that anyone can access from their PC. Yet amid this turmoil some
issues remain the same. Products change continuously, but the great brands shine
through like storm-swept lighthouses: Coca-Cola, Nokia, Sony, BMW, Saab and
Shell, to name but a few.
Marketing is changing to meet the changing world. Marketing remains the
business activity that identifies an organization's customer needs and wants,

services and programmes to serve these markets. However, marketing is
much more than an isolated business function - it is a philosophy that guides the
entire organization. The goal of marketing is to create customer satisfaction profitably
by building valued relationships with customers. The marketing people

Over the past two decades, the percentage of the world’s population living on less than a dollar a day has been cut in half. How much of that improvement is because of—or in spite of—globalization? While anti-globalization activists mount loud critiques and the media report breathlessly on globalization’s perils and promises, economists have largely remained silent, in part because of an entrenched institutional divide between those who study poverty and those who study trade and finance.
Globalization and Poverty bridges that gap, bringing together experts on both international trade and poverty to provide a detailed view of the effects of globalization on the poor in developing nations, answering such questions as: Do lower import tariffs improve the lives of the poor? Has increased financial integration led to more or less poverty? How have the poor fared during various currency crises? Does food aid hurt or help the poor?
Poverty, the contributors show here, has been used as a popular and convenient catchphrase by parties on both sides of the globalization debate to further their respective arguments. Globalization and Poverty provides the more nuanced understanding necessary to move that debate beyond the slogans. Read more...

What time of year do teenage girls search for prom dresses online? How does the quick adoption of technology affect business success (and how is that related to corn farmers in Iowa)? How do time and money affect the gender of visitors to online dating sites? And how is the Internet itself affecting the way we experience the world? In Click, Bill Tancer takes us behind the scenes into the massive database of online intelligence to reveal the naked truth about how we use the Web, navigate to sites, and search for information--and what all of that says about who we are.
As online directories replace the yellow pages, search engines replace traditional research, and news sites replace newsprint, we are in an age in which we've come to rely tremendously on the Internet--leaving behind a trail of information about ourselves as a culture and the direction in which we are headed. With surprising and practical insight, Tancer demonstrates how the Internet is changing the way we absorb information and how understanding that change can be used to our advantage in business and in life. Click analyzes the new generation of consumerism in a way no other book has before, showing how we use the Internet, and how those trends provide a wealth of market research nearly as vast as the Internet itself. Understanding how we change is integral to our success. After all, we are what we click. Read more...
