Hong’s straightforward style makes it easy for the do-it-yourself crowd to build a server quickly using the ports collection (a software package management system). But rather than wade through the thousands of ports available, Hong focuses on the most popular and useful ones. Each package is treated as an independent project (and given a difficulty rating), so readers can dip into the book at any point to install just the packages they need, when they need them.
The book’s modules cover topics like:
* Running common FreeBSD admin commands and tasks.
* Managing the FreeBSD ports collection.
* Installing third-party apps like Apache, Courier-IMAP, SpamAssassin, CUPS, Cyrus SASL, MediaWiki, and WordPress.
* Setting up MySQL, NTP, ISC DHCP, ISC BIND DNS, PHP, OpenLDAP, OpenSSH, OpenSSL, and OpenVPN.
Appendixes explain user management, backup/restore, and network protocols.
Building a Server with FreeBSD 7 will have readers running their own server loaded with useful modules in no time, with a minimum of hassle.

Red Hat Certified Engineer Study Guide:
If you want to learn how to administer a Red Hat Linux system, this is the book for you. In it, you'll find clear and comprehensive explanations of the concepts you need to understand and the procedures you need to be able to perform. If you plan to take the RHCE exam, you will find this book to be even more valuable, because it focuses on the topics identified by Red Hat, Inc., as central to the RHCE exam. It contains many practice questions and exercises that will help you to prepare for and assess your readiness to take the RHCE exam. The book includes both questions and exercises because the RHCE exam has two kinds of tests: written and performance-based exams. The questions prepare you for the written part of the RHCE exam, and the exercises prepare you for the performance-based part of the exam. Once you master the questions and exercises, you will be able to approach the RHCE exam with confidence. However, the RHCE exam and this book are not for everyone. The RHCE exam is mostly a hands-on exam that attempts to assess your system administration skills. This book will help you to learn and refine these skills, but unless you've had some experience with Unix or Linux, you probably won't make much sense of this book or the RHCE exam. To succeed, you don't need to be a Unix or Linux expert—although it certainly won't hurt if you are—but you should be at least a Unix or Linux power user who has some experience in system installation and administration. If you've installed Linux on several systems and spent some time figuring out some system administration commands such as mount and unmount, you can expect to understand the material in this book.

An Introduction to Cryptography:
Cryptography is the stuff of spy novels and action comics. Kids once saved up bubble-gum wrappers and sent away for Captain Midnight's Secret Decoder Ring. Almost everyone has seen a television show or movie involving a nondescript suit-clad gentleman with a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist. The word "espionage" conjures images of James Bond, car chases, and flying bullets. And here you are, sitting in your office, faced with the rather mundane task of sending a sales report to a coworker in such a way that no one else can read it. You just want to be sure that your colleague was the actual and only recipient of the email and you want him or her to know that you were unmistakably the sender. It's not national security at stake, but if your company's competitor got a hold of it, it could cost you. How can you accomplish this? You can use cryptography. You may find it lacks some of the drama of code phrases whispered in dark alleys, but the result is the same: information revealed only to those for whom it was intended.

Web Services Theory & Practice:
This is a soup-to-nuts reference guide on all aspects of Web Services - where Web Services is a fast emerging set of Internet-specific middle ware technology to further promote the growth of all aspects of e-business via standardization, collaboration and "franchising". This book is best characterized as an executive brief for IT and senior management rather than a nuts-and-bolts technical guide for portal implementers. Think of it as the "Cliffs Notes on Web Services". Given this audience, the book consistently focuses on business needs, value propositions, ROI, proven solutions and actual examples of current implementations. Each chapter also ends with a 10-item "Q&A" section that consolidates and summarizes the information discussed in the chapter. The book is illustrated with detailed technical diagrams, includes lots of arresting subtitles and contains many bullet lists and tables to facilitate (and encourage) productive skimming.

Six Days of War:
In Israel and the West it is called the Six Day War. In the Arab world, it is known as the June War, or simply as "the Setback." Never has a conflict so short, unforeseen and largely unwanted by both sides so transformed the world. The Yom Kippur War, the war in Lebanon, the Camp David accords, the controversy over Jerusalem and Jewish settlements in West Bank, the intifada and the rise of Palestinian terror: all are part of the outcome of those six days of intense Arab-Israeli fighting in the summer of 1967. Michael B. Oren's Six Days of War is the most comprehensive history ever published of this dramatic and pivotal event, the first to explore it both as a military struggle and as a critical episode in the global Cold War. Oren spotlights all the participants - Arab, Israeli, Soviet, and American - telling the story of how the war broke out and of the shocking ways it unfolded. Drawing on thousands of top-secret documents, on rare papers in Russian and Arabic, and on exclusive personal interviews, Six Days of War recreates the regional and international context which, by the late 1960s, virtually assured an Arab-Israeli conflagration. Also examined are the domestic crises in each of the battling states, and the extraordinary personalities - Moshe Dayan and Gamal Abdul Nasser, Hafez al-Assad and Yitzhak Rabin, Lyndon Johnson and Alexei Kosygin - that precipitated this earthshaking clash.

... essential reading for all those requiring a general understanding of the more advanced aspects of engineering dynamics.,Executive Engineer, --
Review 'Advanced Engineering Dynamics' bridges the gap between elementary dynamics and advanced specialist applications in engineering.
It begins with a reappraisal of Newtonian principles before expanding into analytical dynamics typified by the methods of Lagrange and by Hamilton's Principle and rigid body dynamics. Four distinct vehicle types (satellites, rockets, aircraft and cars) are examined highlighting different aspects of dynamics in each case. Emphasis is placed on impact and one dimensional wave propagation before extending the study into three dimensions. Robotics is then looked at in detail, forging a link between conventional dynamics and the highly specialised and distinctive approach used in robotics. The text finishes with an excursion into the Special Theory of Relativity mainly to define the boundaries of Newtonian Dynamics but also to re-appraise the fundamental definitions. Through its examination of specialist applications highlighting the many different aspects of dynamics this text provides an excellent insight into advanced systems without restricting itself to a particular discipline. The result is essential reading for all those requiring a general understanding of the more advanced aspects of engineering dynamics.
This book examines the many specialist applications of dynamics and provides insight into advanced systems without restricting itself to a particular discipline. The result is essential reading for all those requiring a general understanding of the more advanced aspects of engineering dynamics.

Praise for THE MAVERICK AND HIS MACHINE
"Like all great biographers, Kevin Maney gives us an engaging story and so much more. His fascinating and definitive book about IBM’s founder is replete with amazing revelations and character lessons that resonate today. Among the gems: how a demanding curmudgeon managed to shape a collaborative corporate culture–and create a legacy that changed the world."
–Rosabeth Moss Kanter
Harvard Business School, bestselling author of Evolve!
and When Giants Learn to Dance
"The gripping story of sky-high ambition, iron willpower, huge bet-the-company gambles, humiliating failure, and unparalleled success–one of the best books ever written about the technology industry, about one of the most fascinating people in twentieth-century America."
–Marc Andreessen
Cofounder of Opsware, Inc. and Netscape
"The story of Watson and IBM is a compelling–and, at times, cautionary–tale of a determined, charismatic, flawed, and ultimately successful leader. Anyone interested in the story of business in America, the birth of high-tech, or simply the rags-to-riches tale of one determined businessman should read this book."
–Robert M. Menschel
Senior Director, Goldman Sachs
author of Markets, Mobs, and Mayhem
"In an action-packed story that reads like a novel, Kevin Maney paints a convincing portrait of a man who, having been a convicted criminal, redeemed himself and reshaped the American business landscape. The career of Thomas Watson, the effective founder of IBM, is not only fascinating, but offers many critical lessons on management and personal conduct that remain extremely poignant today."
–Peter Krass
author of Carnegie

"This book will provide an excellent fundamental understanding of materials for the wide range of electrical and electronic appliances.”
This book on electrical, optical, magnetic and thermal properties of materials differs from other introductory texts in solid state physics. First, it is written for engineers, particularly materials and electrical engineers, who want to gain a fundamental understanding of semiconductor devices, magnetic materials, lasers, alloys, and so forth. Second, it stresses concepts rather than mathematical formalism. Third, it is not an encyclopedia: The topics are restricted to material considered to be essential and which can be covered in one 15-week semester. The book is divided into five parts. The first part, "Fundamentals of Electron Theory," introduces the essential quantum mechanical concepts needed for understanding materials science; the other parts may be read independently of each other. Many practical applications are discussed to provide students with an understanding of electronic devices currently in use. The solutions to the numerical problems are given in the appendix. Previous editions have been well received by students and teachers alike. This third edition has again been thoroughly revised and brought up to date to take into account the explosive developments in electrical, optical, and magnetic materials and devices. In particular, the book contains expanded sections on flat-panel displays (liquid crystals, electroluminescent devices, and field-emission and plasma displays) as well as discussions of recent developments in ferro- and piezoelectricity, magneto-optical memories, photonic and magnetoresistive devices, blue- and green-emitting LED's, and dielectric and thermoelectric properties. Rolf E. Hummel is Professor of Materials Science at the University of Florida, Gainesville. He received his Ph.D. in 1963 from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, and the Max-Planck Institute for Materials Research, also in Stuttgart. His previous publications include Optical Properties of Metals and Alloys (1971) Electro- and Thermo-transport in Metals and Alloys (1977), the two-volume Handbook of Optical Properties (ed.) (1996) and Understanding Materials Science (1998).

The ultimate companion in classical horror discipline of engineering science! Contents of the book are the basics of mechanics as treated in engineering and physical sciences: Statics, Elastostatics, Kinematics & Kinetics in unconventional, humorous presentation with many cartoons, funny explanations and a chapter containing several exercises with detailed solutions.
While writing the book, we, the authors, met regularly in Hannover’s bar scene for the purpose of discussing mechanics, for brainstorming and especially for other reasons. The most fundamental part was: Every evening a new bar. We were able to derive stimulation for a non-academic presentation of mechanics from these work-related meetings, some of which lasted until the wee hours. We would like to express our thanks to each buyer of this book: Wehope, by means of the well-deserved profits, to be able at some point to pay thehuge number of remaining open bar tabs.

Criminology has been rather slow to recognise the importance of cyberspace in changing the nature and scope of offending and victimisation, and a comprehensive introductory textbook on cybercrime and its social implications is long overdue. One of the many strengths of Majid Yar's book is that it avoids 'techy' jargon and unites criminological and sociological perspectives in discussions of cybercrime, cyber-deviance and cyber-freedoms. Yar successfully de-mystifies a subject that causes many criminologists to feel out of their depth (or at least their comfort zone). Cybercrime & Society should be the first point of reference for any student of new media and crime.
Dr Yvonne Jewkes, Reader in Criminology, The Open University
An engaging book full of lively discussion and careful explanation of the issues. Majid Yar manages to achieve the seemingly impossible task of balancing theory with action. I shall certainly recommend it to my own cybercrime students.
Professor David S. Wall, Head of University of Leeds Law School, Professor of Criminal Justice and Information Technology
Cybercrime and Society provides a clear, systematic, and critical introduction to current debates about cybercrime. It locates the phenomenon in the wider contexts of social, political, cultural, and economic change. It is the first book to draw upon perspectives spanning criminology, sociology, law, politics, and cultural studies to examine the whole range of cybercrime issues.

The book provides an original approach in the research of structural analysis of free developed shear compressible turbulence at high Reynolds number on the base of direct numerical simulation (DNS) and instability evolution for ideal medium (integral conservation laws) with approximate mechanism of dissipation (FLUX dissipative monotone "upwind" difference schemes) and does not use any explicit sub-grid approximation and semi-empirical models of turbulence. Convective mixing is considered as a principal part of conservation law.
Appropriate hydrodynamic instabilities (free developed shear turbulence) are investigated from unique point of view. It is based on the concept of large ordered structures with stochastic core of small scale developed turbulence ("turbulent spot"). Decay of "turbulent spot" are simulated by Monte Carlo method. Proposed approach is based on two hypotheses: statistical independence of the characteristic of large ordered structures (LOS) and small-scale turbulence (ST) "and" weak influence of molecular viscosity (or more generally, dissipative mechanism) on properties of large ordered structures.
Two versions of instabilities, due to Rayleigh-Taylor and Richtmyer Meshkov are studied detail by the three-dimensional calculations, extended to the large temporal intervals, up to turbulent stage and investigation turbulent mixing zone (TMZ).
The book covers both the fundamental and practical aspects of turbulence and instability and summarizes the result of numerical experiments conducted over 30 years period with direct participation of the author.
In the book are cited the opinions of the leading scientists in this area of research: Acad. A S Monin (Russia), Prof. Y Nakamura (Japan, Nagoya University) and Prof. F Harlow (USA, Los-Alamos).
Contents: Constructive Modeling of Free Developed Turbulence -- Coherent Structures, Laminar-Turbulent Transition, Chaos; Modeling of Richtmyer Meshkov Instability; Rayleigh Taylor Instability: Analysis and Numerical Simulation; Direct Statistical Approach for Aerohydrodynamic Problems; Appendices:; Computational Experiment: Direct Numerical Simulation of Complex Gas-Dynamical Flows on the Basis of Euler, Navier Stokes, and Boltzmann Models; Formation of Large-Scale Structures in the Gap Between Rotating Cylinders: The Rayleigh Zeldovich Problem; Universal Technology of Parallel Computations for the Problems Described by Systems of the Equations of Hyperbolic Type: A Step to Supersolver; Supercomputers in Mathematical Modeling of the High Complexity Problems; On Nuts and Bolts Structural Turbulence and Hydrodynamic Instabilities.

This book is directed to academics, educators, and government policy-makers who are concerned about addressing emerging cyber-bullying and anti-authority student expressions through the use of cell phone and Internet technologies. There is a current policy vacuum relating to the extent of educators' legal responsibilities to intervene when such expression takes place outside of school hours and school grounds on home computers and personal cell phones. Students, teachers, and school officials are often targets of such expression. The author analyzes government and school responses by reviewing positivist paradigms. Her review of a range of legal frameworks and judicial decisions from constitutional, human rights, child protection, and tort law perspectives redirects attention to legally substantive and pluralistic approaches that can help schools balance student free expression, supervision, safety, and learning.

Carried in wallets and displayed in homes, photographs are a common, but often an overlooked feature of modern life. And, with the advent of digital technology many believe that the so called 'wet chemistry' behind old fashioned photography is a thing of the past - but is it?
The Chemistry of Photography endeavours to unravel the mysteries of picture taking and reflects on the diversity and complexity of the science. It gives readers an insight into the chemistry needed to generate pictures, spanning all mediums including still and motion picture as well as digital imaging.
Beginning with the components of conventional photography such as films and papers, the book also looks at light capture and amplification, negative films, processing solutions, colour transparencies, the chemistry of colour and motion picture films. The book concludes with a discussion of digital technology and new innovations in photography.
This fascinating book will appeal to scientists and those with a general interest in both the new and the old science behind photography.

"The book examines each program, offers various solutions and case studies for each disposal problem, and provides additional sources of information for each program for further reading or consultation."- The Hazardous Waste Consultant.
This book discusses the current and potential treatment technologies involved in chemical weapons destruction, remediation of explosives contaminated soil and lagoons, and unexploded ordnance detection, clearance, and extraction.
Some of the more difficult environmental problems facing the Department of Defense (DOD) include (1) chemical weapons destruction, (2) explosive waste remediation, and (3) unexploded ordnance clearance and extraction. It is conceivable that $50 to $100 billion will be spent by DOD for these three programs, offering unusual opportunities for environmental engineering and related firms.
Military installations are similar to small cities in terms of population, industrial activities, and some types of contaminated sites. However, some cover an area larger than a small state. DOD has operated industrial facilities on its installations for several decades that have generated, stored, recycled, or disposed of hazardous wastes. Many of these activities have contaminated the nearby soil and groundwater. To study and clean up contaminated sites, DOD established the Installation Restoration Program (IRP) in 1975. In 1984, the IRP was made part of the Defense Environmental Restoration Program.
The Secretary of Defense delegated cleanup responsibility to the Army, Navy, the Air Force, and the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). Cleanup actions are usually accomplished under contract with private firms, which are monitored by the services. Most cleanup actions are funded through the Defense Environmental Restoration Account (DERA) and the Base Realignment and Closure Account. Congress established DERA in 1984 to fund the cleanup of inactive contaminated sites on DOD installations.
The technology to clean up the conventional hazardous wastes on DOD sites are the same as those utilized for industrial sites, and well-documented by this publisher.
However, there are three DOD programs that require the utilization of somewhat unusual or different technologies that have not been as well documented. These three programs are:
1. Chemical weapons destruction
2. Remediation of explosives contaminated soils and lagoons
3. Unexploded ordnance detection, clearance, and extraction
This book discusses the current and potential treatment technologies involved in these three programs.

The discovery of Bose Einstein condensation (BEC) in trapped ultracold atomic gases in 1995 has led to an explosion of theoretical and experimental research on the properties of Bose-condensed dilute gases. The first treatment of BEC at finite temperatures, this book presents a thorough account of the theory of two-component dynamics and nonequilibrium behaviour in superfluid Bose gases. It uses a simplified microscopic model to give a clear, explicit account of collective modes in both the collisionless and collision-dominated regions. Major topics such as kinetic equations, local equilibrium and two-fluid hydrodynamics are introduced at an elementary level. Explicit predictions are worked out and linked to experiments. Providing a platform for future experimental and theoretical studies on the finite temperature dynamics of trapped Bose gases, this book is ideal for researchers and graduate students in ultracold atom physics, atomic, molecular and optical physics and condensed matter physics.

The Political Economy of Independent Ukraine analyzes the reasons for the abysmal economic performance of Ukraine during the 1990s. The main thesis is that economic development was blocked by a set of parasitic mechanisms at all levels of the economy that prevented the development of value-added economic activities. Those parasitic mechanisms already developed under Soviet rule (’beating the system’ by redistributing goods and services while disregarding formal rules) became a widespread practice. The Political Economy of Independent Ukraine analyzes the reasons for the abysmal econ...

A hands-on guide to testing techniques that deliver reliable software and systems
Testing even a simple system can quickly turn into a potentially infinite task. Faced with tight costs and schedules, testers need to have a toolkit of practical techniques combined with hands-on experience and the right strategies in order to complete a successful project. World-renowned testing expert Rex Black provides you with the proven methods and concepts that test professionals must know. He presents you with the fundamental techniques for testing and clearly shows you how to select and apply successful strategies to test a system with budget and time constraints.
Black begins by discussing the goals and tactics of effective and efficient testing. Next, he lays the foundation of his technique for risk-based testing, explaining how to analyze, prioritize, and document risks to the quality of the system using both informal and formal techniques. He then clearly describes how to design, develop, and, ultimately, document various kinds of tests. Because this is a hands-on activity, Black includes realistic, life-sized exercises that illustrate all of the major test techniques with detailed solutions.
By the end of this book, you'll know more about the nuts and bolts of testing than most testers learn in an entire career, and you'll be ready to put those ideas into action on your next test project.
With the help of real-world examples integrated throughout the chapters, you'll discover how to:
* Analyze the risks to system quality
* Allocate your testing effort appropriately based on the level of risk
* Choose the right testing strategies every time
* Design tests based on a system's expected behavior (black box) or internal structure (white box)
* Plan and perform integration testing
* Explore and attack the system
* Focus your hard work to serve the needs of the project
The author's companion Web site provides exercises, tips, and techniques that can be used to gain valuable experience and effectively test software and systems.

Testing software is a very important and challenging activity. This is a book for people who test software during its development. Our focus is on object-oriented and component-based software, but you can apply many of the techniques discussed in this book regardless of the development paradigm. We assume our reader is familiar with testing procedural software--that is, software written in the procedural paradigm using languages such as C, Ada, Fortran, or COBOL. We also assume our reader is familiar and somewhat experienced in developing software using object-oriented and component-based technologies. Our focus is on describing what to test in object-oriented development efforts as well as on describing techniques for how to test object-oriented software, and how testing software built with these newer technologies differs from testing procedural software.
What is software testing? To us, testing is the evaluation of the work products created during a software development effort. This is more general than just checking part or all of a software system to see if it meets its specifications. Testing software is a difficult process, in general, and sufficient resources are seldom available for testing. From our standpoint, testing is done throughout a development effort and is not just an activity tacked on at the end of a development phase to see how well the developers did. We see testing as part of the process that puts quality into a software system. As a result, we address the testing of all development products (models) even before any code is written.
We do not necessarily believe that you will apply everything we describe in this book. There are seldom enough resources available to a development effort to do all the levels and kinds of testing we would like. We hope you will find a number of approaches and techniques that will prove useful to and affordable for your project.
In this book we describe a set of testing techniques. All of the techniques we describe have been applied in practice. Many of these techniques have been used in a wide variety of industries and on projects of vastly different sizes. In Chapter 3, we will consider the impact of some of these variables on the types of testing that are routinely performed.
To describe these techniques, we rely in many cases on one or more examples to illustrate their application. We hope from these examples and from our explanations that you can apply the same techniques to your project software in a straightforward manner. The complete code for these examples, test code, and other resources can be obtained via a link off this Web site.
In order to make this book as useful as possible, we will provide two major organizational threads. The physical layout of the book will follow the usual sequence of events as they happen on a project. Model testing will be addressed earlier than component or code testing, for example. We will also include a set of questions that a tester might ask when he or she is faced with specific testing tasks on a project. This testing FAQ will be tied into the main body of the text with citations.
We have included alternative techniques and ways of adapting techniques for varying the amount of testing. Testing life-critical or mission-critical software requires more effort than testing an arcade game. The summary sections of each chapter should make these choices clear.
This book is the result of many years of research, teaching, and consulting both in the university and in companies. We would like to thank the sponsors of our research, including COMSOFT, IBM, and AT&T for their support of our academic research. Thanks to the students who assisted in the research and those who sat through many hours of class and provided valuable feedback on early versions of the text. The consultants working for Korson-McGregor, formerly Software Architects, made many suggestions and worked with early versions of the techniques while still satisfying client needs. The employees of numerous consulting clients helped us perfect the techniques by providing real problems to be solved and valuable feedback. A special thanks to Melissa L. Russ (formerly Major) who helped teach several tutorials and made her usual insightful comments to improve the material.

Written by a true authority in the field, Hung Q. Nguyen's Testing Applications on the Web is a nicely comprehensive guide to virtually every conceivable aspect of software testing. It's filled with must-have background information for any test engineer or manager who's testing thin-client systems.
Gray-box testing--a new means to test complex, distributed systems based on server-side components and browser-based clients--is the focus of the book. While, in the past, testers might have ignored certain aspects of stand-alone desktop software, today's Web-based software requires a thorough knowledge of every aspect of multitiered Web applications. To this end, the book surveys the basics of essential computing topics like thin-client computer architectures, networking (including a comprehensive introduction to TCP/IP and related standards), databases, and SQL.
This book also outlines the state of the art in software testing. Notable sections include a short guide to no fewer than 24 distinct types of software tests, how to test browser-based user interfaces effectively, and a thorough guide to Web-performance testing. The general discussion of testing methodology is anchored by a case study on actual test documents and tests for a Web-based software application (a tool for tracking software defects). The text closes with a survey of today's testing tools, and blank templates for creating your own test plans in the field.
With its expert's-eye view of what's involved in software testing, bolstered by real-world examples, Testing Applications on the Web proves itself an extremely worthwhile resource. --Richard Dragan

Software Testing is the book for new or aspiring software testers interested in learning about this crucial part of the software development process. The complexity and size of today's software makes writing bug-free code extremely difficult, even for highly experienced programmers. Couple that with our increasing reliance on software for performing everyday tasks and its pervasiveness in the medical, telecommunications, manufacturing, and financial industries, and a software bug can spell disaster. Quality software can't be created with an ad- hoc, part-time, bug hunt. It requires a methodical and disciplined approach to preventing, finding, and reporting bugs. Software Testing will show you what it takes to be a successful software tester, assuring that you discover those nasty bugs before your customers do.

JavaServer Pages (JSP) has built a huge following since the release of JSP 1.0 in 1999, providing Enterprise Java developers with a flexible tool for the development of dynamic web sites and web applications. While new point releases over the years, along with the introduction of the JSP Standard Tag Library (JSTL), have incrementally improved the rough areas of the first version of the JSP specification, JSP 2.0 takes this technology to new heights. JavaServer Pages, Third Edition, is completely revised and updated to cover the JSP 2.0 and JSTL 1.1 specifications. It includes detailed coverage of the Expression Language (EL) incorporated into JSP 2.0, the JSTL 1.1 tag libraries and the new function library, the new tag file format that enables custom tag library development without Java code, the simplified Java tag library API, improvements in the JSP XML syntax, and more. Further, it details setup of the Apache Tomcat server, JSP and JSTL syntax and features, error handling and debugging, authentication and personalization, database access, XML processing, and internationalization. This book recognizes the different needs of the two groups of professionals who want to learn JSP: page authors interested in using JSP elements in web pages, and programmers concerned with learning the JSP API and using JSP effectively as a part of an enterprise application. If you're in the first group, you'll learn from the practical web application examples in the second part of the book. If you're in the latter group, you'll appreciate the detailed coverage of advanced topics in the third part, such as how to integrate servlets and JavaBeans components with JSP using the popular Apache Struts MVC framework, and how to develop custom tag libraries using the JSP API, with realistic examples that you can use as a springboard for your own libraries. 'Hans Bergsten, a JSP expert group veteran and one of our most active contributors, has thoroughly and accurately captured the new features of JSP 2.0 and JSTL 1.1 in a way that is well-organized and easy to understand. With excellent, to-the-point examples, this book is a 'must have' for any serious JSP 2.0 developer.' --Mark Roth, JSP 2.0 Specification Lead, Sun Microsystems, Inc. Hans Bergsten is the founder of Gefion Software, a company focused on Java services and products based on J2EE technologies. Hans has been an active participant in the working groups for both the servlet and JSP specifications since their inception and contributes to other related JCP specifications, such as JSP Standard Tag Library (JSTL) and JavaServer Faces (JSF), and, as one of the initial members of the Apache Jakarta Project Management Committee, helped develop the Apache Tomcat reference implementation for the servlet and JSP specifications.
