Recognising the benefits of improved control, the second edition of Autotuning of PID Controllers provides simple yet effective methods for improving PID controller performance. The practical issues of controller tuning are examined using numerous worked examples and case studies in association with specially written autotuning MATLABR programs to bridge the gap between conventional tuning practice and novel autotuning methods.
The extensively revised second edition expands and refines on important work in the ubiquitous PID form of control with material covering:
* Derivation of analytical expressions for relay feedback responses with tabulated results for easy reference.
* The use of shapes of relay responses to generate information for improved closed-loop control and performance assessment.
* The applications of autotuning to multiple-model-based cases for handling process nonlinearity.
* The use of feedback shapes to generate information for performance assessment.
* The impact of imperfect actuators on controller performance.
Autotuning of PID Controllers is more than just a monograph, it is an independent learning tool applicable to the work of academic control engineers and of their counterparts in industry looking for more effective process control and automation.
Comments on the first edition:
This book is written in a way which not only makes it easy to understand but is also useful to those interested in or working with PID controllers.

Beginning Web Development, Silverlight, and ASP.NET AJAX: From Novice to Professional aims to give you the skills you need to start building web applications with Microsoft's next-generation technology as quickly as possible. Whether you're interested in ASP.NET AJAX, Silverlight, or the technologies that support them (WPF, WCF, WF, etc.), this book is the starting point that you need.
It adopts a "zero to hero" approach that concentrates on achieving practical results you can use in real projects rather than presenting a deep academic treatment that can't be immediately applied.
The aim is to give you, the reader, the knowledge you need to achieve the results you want with the minimum of fuss. When you've read this book, you'll have a solid understand of all the techniques that are available, when to use them, and their relative strengths and weaknesses.
What you'll learn
* Create next-generation web applications quickly and easily!
* Manipulate data, display information, and communicate with other services using the latest ASP.NET techniques and best practices.
* Discover how the .NET 3.0 extensions (WPF, WCF, and WF) can make your web applications faster, more efficient, and easier to code than ever.
* Understand how ASP.NET AJAX and Silverlight can be integrated into your ASP.NET websites in order to provide a cutting-edge user interface for your applications and the implications that such interfaces can have.

More than ever before, complicated mathematical procedures are integral to the success and advancement of technology, engineering, and even industrial production. Knowledge of and experience with these procedures is therefore vital to present and future scientists, engineers and technologists. Mathematical Methods in Physics and Engineering with Mathematica clearly demonstrates how to solve difficult practical problems involving ordinary and partial differential equations and boundary value problems using the software package Mathematica (4.x). Avoiding mathematical theorems and numerical methods-and requiring no prior experience with the software-the author helps readers learn by doing with step-by-step recipes useful in both new and classical applications. Mathematica and FORTRAN codes used in the book's examples and exercises are available for download from the Internet. The author's clear explanation of each Mathematica command along with a wealth of examples and exercises make Mathematical Methods in Physics and Engineering with Mathematica an outstanding choice both as a reference for practical problem solving and as a quick-start guide to using a leading mathematics software package.
Review
It is a whirlwind review of mathematical methods used to solve linear and nonlinear boundary-value problems. The best aspect of this book is its immersion in Mathematica, which is treated as a full partner in presenting the material. A list of codesand an appendix that lists all Read more...

Mathematical Analysis (often called Advanced Calculus) is generally found by students to be one of their hardest courses in Mathematics. This text uses the so-called sequential approach to continuity, differentiability and integration to make it easier to understand the subject.Topics that are generally glossed over in the standard Calculus courses are given careful study here. For example, what exactly is a 'continuous' function? And how exactly can one give a careful definition of 'integral'? The latter question is often one of the mysterious points in a Calculus course - and it is quite difficult to give a rigorous treatment of integration! The text has a large number of diagrams and helpful margin notes; and uses many graded examples and exercises, often with complete solutions, to guide students through the tricky points. It is suitable for self-study or use in parallel with a standard University course on the subject.

Pedagogical insights gained through 30 years of teaching applied mathematics led the author to write this set of student oriented books. Topics such as complex analysis, matrix theory, vector and tensor analysis, Fourier analysis, integral transforms, ordinary and partial differential equations are presented in a discursive style that is readable and easy to follow. Numerous clearly stated, completely worked out examples together with carefully selected problem sets with answers are used to enhance students' understanding and manipulative skill. The goal is to make students comfortable and confident in using advanced mathematical tools in junior, senior, and beginning graduate courses.

The unique, visual format of Illustrated C# 2008 has been specially created by author, and teacher of development methods, Daniel Solis. The concise text, use of tables to clarify language features, frequent figures and diagrams, as well as focused code samples all combine to create a unique approach that will help you understand and get to work with C# fast.
It was while teaching numerous seminars on various programming languages that the author realized the immense power diagrams have in explaining programming language concepts. Most people learn quicker and retain information better when the material is presented in a clean, simple, visual format. To achieve this result in his book, Solis uses concise text and bulleted lists, tables to clarify and summarize language features, as well as his renowned, ubiquitous figures and diagrams. Each language feature is illustrated with a concise and focused code sample for complete clarity.
Following an overview of the .NET platform and the role played by C#, you'll soon move into exploring the C# language in its entirety, including all the new C# 2008 features right down to the most complex topics involved in C#. If you're a C++ or VB programmer migrating to C# 2008, this book will be invaluable; the unique visual approach offers a far from lightweight treatment of C# 2008, so even the most experienced programmers will come away with a deeper understanding of the C# language.

This book is for anyone who wants to write good Visual Basic 2008 code - even if you have never programmed before.
Writing good code can be a challenge, there are so many options, especially in a language like Visual Basic. If you want to really get the best from a programming language you need to know which features work best in which situations and understand their strengths and weaknesses. It is this understanding that makes the difference between coding and coding well.
Beginning VB 2008 has been written to teach you how to use the Visual Basic programming language to solve problems. From the earliest chapters, and from the first introductory concepts, you'll be looking at real-world programming challenges and learning how Visual Basic can be used to overcome them. As you progress through the book the problems become more involved and interesting while the solutions become correspondingly more complex and powerful as Visual Basic features interact to achieve the results that you want.
By the time you've finished reading this book and worked through the sample exercises, you'll be a confident and very competent Visual Basic programmer. You will still have many explorations of the .NET Framework API to look forward to in your future career, but you will have a firm foundation to build from and you will know exactly where to go to find the things that you need to progress confidently in your projects.

Researchers around the world depend upon having access to authoritative, up-to-date data. And for 90 years, they have relied on the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics for that data. This year is no exception. New tables, extensive updates, and added sections mean the Handbook has again set a new standard for reliability, utility, and thoroughness. This edition features a completely new table of Physical Constants of Organic Compounds with data on almost 11,000 compounds, new structure diagrams, and a new, more convenient format. Reflecting CRC's dedication to ensuring the Handbook remains current, this edition also incorporates new entries and data from the U.S. Government's just-released "Tenth Report on Carcinogens."
Review
The CRC Handbook has been, in successive editions, on my bedside table for the last 55 years.
