Evolutionary and Neo-Schumpeterian Approaches to Economics
Lars Magnusson “Evolutionary and Neo-Schumpeterian Approaches to Economics " Springer | 1994-03-31 | ISBN: 0792393856 | PDF | 340 pages | 16 Mb
This volume presents the interrelationships and possible connecting threads between two recent attempts within economic theory to step out of the mainstream of conventional neoclassical wisdom: evolutionary and neo-Schumpeterian theory. Neo-Schumpeterian and evolutionary approaches to economics present a challenge to conventional neoclassical orthodoxy. They provide new insights into how markets function, how innovations are carried out, how technologies change, and how growth occurs in existing real economies. The two fields of theory and research in which these approaches have proven especially fruitful are the role of innovation for economic change and development and the theory of the firm. The wide range of topics dealt with in this volume provides further proof of the versatility and fruitfulness of these approaches.

Aspects of Mathematical Finance
M. Yor, P. Barrieu, N. El Karoui, H. Föllmer, H. Geman, E. Gobet, D. Lamberton, G. Pagès, W. Schachermayer, Marc Yor, K. Qechar“Aspects of Mathematical Finance "
Springer | 2008-03 | ISBN:3540752587 | PDF | 80 pages | 1,1 Mb
Considering the stupendous gain in importance, in the banking and insurance industries since the early 1990s, of mathematical methodology, especially probabilistic methodology, it was a very natural idea for the French "Académie des Sciences" to propose a series of public lectures, accessible to an educated audience, to promote a wider understanding for some of the fundamental ideas, techniques and new tools of the financial industries.
These lectures were given at the "Académie des Sciences" in Paris by internationally renowned experts in mathematical finance, and later written up for this volume which develops, in simple yet rigorous terms, some challenging topics such as risk measures, the notion of arbitrage, dynamic models involving fundamental stochastic processes like Brownian motion and Lévy processes.
The Ariadnes thread leads the reader from Louis Bacheliers thesis 1900 to the famous Black-Scholes formula of 1973 and to most recent work close to Malliavins stochastic calculus of variations. The book also features a description of the trainings of French financial analysts which will help them to become experts in these fast evolving mathematical techniques.

Product Customization
Lars Hvam, Niels Henrik Mortensen, Jesper Riis “Product Customization"
Springer | 2008-02 | ISBN:3540714480 | 283 pages | PDF | 3,8 Mb For the majority of industrial companies, customizing products and services is among the most critical means to deliver true customer value and achieve superior competitive advantage. The challenge is not to customize products and services in itself but to do it in a profitable way. The implementation of a product configuration system is among the most powerful ways of achieving this in practice, offering a reduction of the lead time for products and quotations, faster and more qualified responses to customer inquiries, fewer transfers of responsibility and fewer specification mistakes, a reduction of the resources spent for the specification of customized products, and the possibility of optimizing the products according to customer demands.
This book presents an operational procedure for the design of product configuration systems in industrial companies, based on the experience gained from more than 40 product configuration projects in companies providing customer tailored products and services.

Management Challenges for the 21st Century
Peter F. Drucker "Management Challenges for the 21st Century"
Collins | 2001-06 | ISBN:0887309992 | 407 pages | PDF | 1,15 Mb No single person has influenced the course of business in the 20th century as much as Peter Drucker. He practically invented management as a discipline in the 1950s, elevating it from an ignored, even despised, profession into a necessary institution that "reflects the basic spirit of the modern age." Now, in Management Challenges for the 21st Century, Drucker looks at the profound social and economic changes occurring today and considers how management--not government or free markets--should orient itself to address these new realities.

Simulation Integrated Design for Logistics
Hans P. M. Veeke "Simulation Integrated Design for Logistics "
Delft Univ Pr | 2003-10 | ISBN:9040724172 | 262 pages | PDF | 1,2 Mb This is a Ph.D. thesis. The design of an innovative logistic system is a complex problem in which many different disciplines are involved. Each discipline developed its own way of conceptual modelling for a logistic system based on a mono disciplinary perception. It usually leads to a communication problem between the different disciplines and consequently to expectations of the performance that don't correspond with reality. In this thesis a basic system approach is used to define a conceptual model of a logistic system that can be used by all disciplines involved as a common reference of the design. A combination of a soft and a hard systems approach leads to a conceptual model in which the problem is formulated in terms of required performances and process structures. The logisitic system is modeled as a structure of functions around three flows: orders, products and resources. The model evolves during the design project and is an enduring supporting tool for decision making with a clear relation to the systems objectives. This process-performance model is formulated in interdisciplinary terms and thereby enables the communication between different disciplines.

Handbook of Globalization and the Environment
Khi V. Thai, Dianne Rahm, Jerrell D. Coggburn "Handbook of Globalization and the Environment "
CRC | 2007-02-05 | ISBN:1574445537 | 616 pages | PDF | 8,4 Mb Proponents of globalization argue that it protects the global environment from degradation and promotes worldwide sustainable economic growth while opponents argue the exact opposite. Examining the local, national, and international impacts of globalization, the Handbook of Globalization and the Environment explores strategies and solutions that support healthy economic growth, protect the environment, and create a more equitable world. The book sets the stage with coverage of global environmental issues and policies. It explores international sustainable development, the evolution of global warming policy, transborder air pollution, desertification, space and the global environment, and human right to water. Building on this foundation, the editors discuss global environmental organizations and institutions with coverage of the UN's role in globalization, the trade-environment nexus, the emergence of NGOs, and an analysis of the state of global environmental knowledge and awareness from an international and comparative perspective. Emphasizing the effects of increasingly integrated global economy on the environment and society, the book examines environmental management and accountability. It addresses green procurement, provides an overview of U.S. environmental regulation and the current range of voluntary and mandatory pollution prevention mechanisms in use, explores a two-pronged approach to establishing a sustainable procurement model, and examines a collaborative community-based approach to environmental regulatory compliance. The book concludes with an analysis of controversial issues, such as eco-terrorism, North-South disputes, environmental justice, the promotion of economic growth through globalization in less developed countries, and the ability of scientists to communicate ideas so that policy makers can use science in decision making
