Paperback: 911 pages
Date: Mar 2008
Format: PDF
Description: This book will get you way up to speed on the technology you’ll know it so well, in fact, that you can pass the brand new J2EE 1.5 exam. If that’s what you want to do, that is. Maybe you don’t care about the exam, but need to use servlets and JSPs in your next project. You’re working on a deadline. You’re over the legal limit for caffeine. You can’t waste your time with a book that makes sense only AFTER you’re an expert (or worse, one that puts you to sleep).

Learn how to write servlets and JSPs, what makes a web container tick (and what ticks it off), how to use JSP’s Expression Language (EL for short), and how to write deployment descriptors for your web applications. Master the c:out tag, and get a handle on exactly what’s changed since the older J2EE 1.4 exam. You don’t just pass the new J2EE 1.5 SCWCD exam, you’ll understand this stuff and put it to work immediately.

Head First Servlets and JSP doesn’t just give you a bunch of facts to memorize; it drives knowledge straight into your brain. You’ll interact with servlets and JSPs in ways that help you learn quickly and deeply. And when you’re through with the book, you can take a brand-new mock exam, created specifically to simulate the real test-taking experience.

Description: Even the best developers have seen well-intentioned software projects fail — often because the customer kept changing requirements, and end users didn’t know how to use the software you developed. Instead of surrendering to these common problems, let Head First Software Development guide you through the best practices of software development. Before you know it, those failed projects will be a thing of the past.

With its unique visually rich format, this book pulls together the hard lessons learned by expert software developers over the years. You’ll gain essential information about each step of the software development lifecycle — requirements, design, coding, testing, implementing, and maintenance — and understand why and how different development processes work.

Paperback: 163 pages

Format: PDF
Description: Information systems for manufacturing often follow a three-layer architecture based on an enterprise resource planning (ERP) layer (for order planning), a manufacturing execution system (MES) layer (for factory control), and a shop floor layer (for machine control). Future requirements on flexibility and adaptability require a much closer integration of ERP systems with the manufacturing floor. To achieve this integration, an MES often pushes customer orders to the manufacturing floor in a flexible manner. Moreover, a large amount of shop floor data needs to be filtered and fed into business planning applications such as production planning or supply chain management. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips can play an important role in the collection and management of such data.

Paperback: 220 pages
Date: Feb 2006
Format: PDF
Description: Over the years, a variety of software process models have been designed to structure, describe and prescribe the software systems construction process. More recently, software process modelling is increasingly dealing with new challenges raised by the tests that the software industry has to face. This book addresses these new trends in software process modeling related to: 1. Processes for open source software; 2. Systems dynamics to model and simulate the software process; 3. Peopleware: the importance of people in the software development and by extension in the software process. One new software development trend is the development of open source projects. As such projects are a recent creation, the process model governing this type of developments is unfamiliar. This book deals with process modeling for open source software. It also deals with software process simulation applied to the management of software projects and improves the software development process capability according to CMM (Capability Maturity Model). Software development is a conjunction of: the organizational environment, the social environment and the technological environment. The inclusion of these environments will make it possible to output software process models that meet the specified organizational, cultural and technological requirements, providing an exhaustive analysis of the people in the software process, as well as supporting people-oriented software development. This book deals with the development of software by means of people-oriented process models that have proven to be very beneficial.

Paperback: 248 pages
Date: May 2008
Format: PDF
Description: The main subject of this book is the fuzzy c-means proposed by Dunn and Bezdek and their variations including recent studies. A main reason why we concentrate on fuzzy c-means is that most methodology and application studies in fuzzy clustering use fuzzy c-means, and hence fuzzy c-means should be considered to be a major technique of clustering in general, regardless whether one is interested in fuzzy methods or not. Unlike most studies in fuzzy c-means, what we emphasize in this book is a family of algorithms using entropy or entropy-regularized methods which are less known, but we consider the entropy-based method to be another useful method of fuzzy c-means. Throughout this book one of our intentions is to uncover theoretical and methodological differences between the Dunn and Bezdek traditional method and the entropy-based method. We do note claim that the entropy-based method is better than the traditional method, but we believe that the methods of fuzzy c-means become complete by adding the entropy-based method to the method by Dunn and Bezdek, since we can observe natures of the both methods more deeply by contrasting these two.

Paperback: 266 pages
Date: Apr 2008
Format: PDF
Description: Web 2.0 makes headlines, but how does it make money? This concise guide explains what’s different about Web 2.0 and how those differences can improve your company’s bottom line. Whether you’re an executive plotting the next move, a small business owner looking to expand, or an entrepreneur planning a startup, Web 2.0: A Strategy Guide illustrates through real-life examples how businesses, large and small, are creating new opportunities on today’s Web.

This book is about strategy. Rather than focus on the technology, the examples concentrate on its effect. You will learn that creating a Web 2.0 business, or integrating Web 2.0 strategies with your existing business, means creating places online where people like to come together to share what they think, see, and do. When people come together over the Web, the result can be much more than the sum of the parts. The customers themselves help build the site, as old-fashioned “word of mouth” becomes hypergrowth.

Web 2.0: A Strategy Guide demonstrates the power of this new paradigm by examining how:

* Flickr, a classic user-driven business, created value for itself by helping users create their own value
* Google made money with a model based on free search, and changed the rules for doing business on the Web-opening opportunities you can take advantage of

Only if the designer is clear about these questions, he is able to provide a maximum of target group orientation.

This book gives focuses on these high-level questions and gives a criteria when and how to design speech systems. After an introduction, the state of the art in modern voice user interfaces is displayed. The following parts of the book evolve criteria for designing and evaluating successful voice user interfaces. In the last chapter, outlines and trends of this fast growing area are displayed.
