Burton MacDonald, “”East of the Jordan”: Territories and Sites of the Hebrew Scriptures”

American Schools of Oriental Research (2000) | English | ISBN:0897570316 | 299 pages | PDF | 1.45 MB

One cannot do archaeological work in Jordan for long and have an interest in biblical studies without raising questions relative to the location of the biblical places and events that are so much a part of the biblical narratives. This volume is a convenient tool for all those interested in the location of territories and sites attested in the Bible as “East of the Jordan,” now The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. It presents the history of the identification of each biblical site and suggests the most likely location based on information provided by the biblical text, extra-biblical literary information, toponymic considerations, and archaeology.

W.M. Groenewoud “Characterisation of Polymers by Thermal Analysis”

Elsevier Science | 2001-05-01 | ISBN:0444506047 | 392 pages | PDF | 12,1 Mb

Thermal Analysis (TA) has become an indispensable family of analytical techniques in the polymer research. The increased importance of these techniques can be seen as the result of three more or less parallel developments:
• a tempestuous development of TA measuring techniques in combination with a high degree of automation,
• the strongly increased understanding of the underlaying theory and,
• the increasing knowledge of the relation between the polymers’ chemical structure and their physical properties.

Tim Schenk ” RF Imperfections in High-rate Wireless Systems: Impact and Digital Compensation”

Springer | 2008-02-11 | ISBN:1402069022 | 320 pages | PDF | 7,8 Mb

Wireless communication systems are persistently applying wider bandwidths, larger signal dynamics and higher carrier frequencies to fulfil the demand for higher data rates. This results in an ever increasing demand on the performance of low-cost and power-efficient radio frequency (RF) front-ends. Since the RF technology is, consequently, pushed to its operation boundaries, the intrinsic imperfections of the RF IC technology are more and more governing the system performance of wireless modems.

RF Imperfections in High-rate Wireless Systems therefore presents a new vision on the design of wireless communication systems. In this approach the imperfections of the RF front-ends are accepted and digital signal processing algorithms are designed to suppress their impact on system performance.

Guido K.E. Dietl ” Linear Estimation and Detection in Krylov Subspaces ”

Springer | 2007-12-20 | ISBN:3540684786 | 232 pages | PDF | 2,1 Mb

This book focuses on the foundations of linear estimation theory which is essential for effective signal processing. In its first part, it gives a comprehensive overview of several key methods like reduced-rank signal processing and Krylov subspace methods of numerical mathematics. Based on the derivation of the multistage Wiener filter in its most general form, the relationship between statistical signal processing and numerical mathematics is presented. In the second part, the theory is applied to iterative multiuser detection receivers (Turbo equalization) which are typically desired in wireless communications systems.

Visual Basic 2008 offers powerful new features, and Accelerated VB 2008 is the fastest path to mastering them, and the rest of Visual Basic, for both experienced Visual Basic programmers moving to VB 2008 and programmers moving to Visual Basic from another object–oriented language. Many books introduce VB, but very few also explain how to use it optimally with the .NET common language runtime (CLR). This book teaches both core Visual Basic language concepts and how to wisely employ VB idioms and object–oriented design patterns to exploit the power of VB and the CLR.

Decoupling Control

Springer; 1 edition | ISBN: 354044128X | 1061 pages | December 5, 2002 | PDF | 5 Mb

Decoupling or non-interactive control has attracted considerable research attention since the 1960s when control engineers started to deal with multivariable systems. The theory and design techniques for decoupling control have now, more or less matured for linear time-invariant systems, yet there is no single book which focuses on such an important topic. The present monograph fills this gap by presenting a fairly comprehensive and detailed treatment of decoupling theory and relevant design methods. Decoupling control under the framework of polynomial transfer function and frequency response settings, is included as well as the disturbance decoupling problem. The emphasis here is on special or relatively new compensation schemes such as (true and virtual) feedforward control and disturbance observers, rather than use of feedback control alone. The results are presented in a self-contained way and only the knowledge of basic linear systems theory is assumed of the reader.

Embedded Controller Hardware Design

Ken Arnold, “Embedded Controller Hardware Design”

ISBN: 1878707876 | Publisher: LLH Technology Publishing | 244 pages | English | PDF | 1.24MB

Embedded Controller Hardware Design targets one of the most popular embedded controllers around, the 8051. The book, written by Ken Arnold for LLH Technology Publishing, is a great introduction to low-end, controller design, especially for developers fresh out of college or just off other projects that are used to 32-bit systems running Windows and Linux. Experienced 8-bit embedded designers will not find the book as useful unless they’re unfamiliar with the 8051 and need to use it in a new project. The coverage ranges from a novice level introduction of electronics that touches on resistors and tristate buffers to more advanced topics like bus current limitations and using 8-bit microcontrollers and PLDs (programmable logic devices). The bulk of the book concentrates on important detail like bus loading, timing, and the use of I/O, DMA, and interrupts.

P. Vaidyanathan “The Theory of Linear Prediction”

Morgan and Claypool Publishers | 2008-02-27 | ISBN: 1598295756 | PDF | 180 pages | 1,9 Mb

Linear prediction theory has had a profound impact in the field of digital signal processing. Although the theory dates back to the early 1940s, its influence can still be seen in applications today. The theory is based on very elegant mathematics and leads to many beautiful insights into statistical signal processing. Although prediction is only a part of the more general topics of linear estimation, filtering, and smoothing, this book focuses on linear prediction. This has enabled detailed discussion of a number of issues that are normally not found in texts. For example, the theory of vector linear prediction is explained in considerable detail and so is the theory of line spectral processes.

Philip D. Tetlow, “The Web’s Awake: An Introduction to the Field of Web Science and the Concept of Web Life”

Wiley-IEEE Press | 239 pages | 2007-05-04 | ISBN:0470137940 | PDF | 2.5 MB

The central thesis of The Web’s Awake is that the phenomenal growth and complexity of the web is beginning to outstrip our capability to control it directly. Many have worked on the concept of emergent properties within highly complex systems, concentrating heavily on the underlying mechanics concerned. Few, however, have studied the fundamentals involved from a sociotechnical perspective. In short, the virtual anatomy of the Web remains relatively uninvestigated. The Web’s Awake attempts to seriously explore this gap, citing a number of provocative, yet objective, similarities from studies relating to both real world and digital systems. It presents a collage of interlinked facts, assertions, and coincidences, which boldly point to a Web with powerful potential for life.
