The Rockwell (Boeing North America, since 1996) B-1B Lancer, popularly known as the “Bone”, (a derivation of B-One), was a veteran of some of the toughest, life-threatening fighting long before seeing combat. Tracing its genesis to the 1960s, the B-1 began life as a USAF-funded 1965 study for the Advanced Manned Strategic Aircraft.
