The market is flooded with numbers of good books on Embedded Systems designed especially with the most popular MCS51 family. These books are traditional in nature i.e. they start with the routine architectural features of 8051, description of registers, ports, interrupts etc. Most of these things are already covered in the device data sheet and application notes. In this book all such routine things are skipped. The focus is on programming microcontrollers, to be specific MCS-51 family in 'C' using Keil IDE. The book presents seventeen live case studies apart from the many basic programs organized around every on-chip resource like port, time/counter, interrupt , serial I/O etc. Rather than introducing the underpinning theory or reproducing lengthy data sheets, our approach is "learning-through-doing" and one that appeals to busy electronics designers. The 'C' codes given are well supported by easy to understand comments wherever required. Mastering the basic modules and hands on working with the projects will enable to grasp the basic building blocks for most 8051 programs. Whether you are a student using the MCS-51 family of microcontrollers for your project work or an embedded systems programmer, this is a book that will give you a kick-start in using and understanding the most popular microcontroller. Authors through their interaction with the undergraduate, postgraduate students as well as industry professionals have found that such a book is a need of the microcontr Read more...

This is an electronic version of the third (2005) edition of the above Springer book, from their series Graduate Texts in Mathematics, vol. 173. The cross-references in the text and in the margins are active links: click on them to be taken to the appropriate page. The third edition of this standard textbook of modern graph theory has been carefully revised, updated, and substantially extended. Covering all its major recent developments it can be used both as a reliable textbook for an introductory course and as a graduate text: on each topic it covers all the basic material in full detail, and adds one or two deeper results (again with detailed proofs) to illustrate the more advanced methods of that field. From the reviews of the first two editions (1997, 2000): "This outstanding book cannot be substituted with any other book on the present textbook market. It has every chance of becoming the standard textbook for graph theory." Acta Scientiarum Mathematiciarum "The book has received a very enthusiastic reception, which it amply deserves. A masterly elucidation of modern graph theory." Bulletin of the Institute of Combinatorics and its Applications "A highlight of the book is what is by far the best account in print of the Seymour-Robertson theory of graph minors." Grzimek's Student Animal Life Resource: Corals, Jellyfish, Sponges and Other Simple Animals offers readers comprehensive and easy-to-use information on Earth's animals. Entries are arranged by taxonomy, the science through which living things are classified into related groups. Each entry includes sections on physical characteristics; geographic range; habitat; diet; behavior and reproduction; animals and people; and conservation status. Family entries are followed by one or more species accounts and a range map and photo or illustration for each species. Entries conclude with a list of books, periodicals, and Web sites that may be used for further research. This volume of Grzimek's Student Animal Life Resource: Corals, Jellyfish, Sponges and Other Simple Animals includes a pronunciation guide for scientific names, a glossary, an overview of birds, a list of species in the set by biome, a list of species by geographic location, and an index. The volume has nearly 200 full-color maps, photos, and illustrations to enliven the text, and sidebars provide additional facts and related information. Read more...

The bestselling series Japanese for Busy People has guided hundreds of thousands of students to a fluent, natural, and precise use of the Japanese language. Volume I teaches the absolute minimum amount of Japanese to live in Japan and handle everyday situations. In the ten years since its publication, Japanese for Busy People has won acceptance worldwide as an effective, easy-to-understand textbook, either for classroom use or for independent study. In this new edition, numerous revisions and additions have been made, taking into account the comments and responses of both students and teachers who have been using the course. In Book I, the revisions are directed at making the grammatical explanations easier to understand, while adding further explanations of points that students have difficulty with. Changes have also been made in favor of more natural practice sentences and dialogues. In addition, new appendices list the particles, interrogatives, and sentence patterns in the book, as well as the kanji introduced. Vocabulary and grammar have been limited to about one-third that usually encountered in beginner courses, and words and patterns that students will find immediately useful are emphasized. The thirty lessons are composed of dialogues, notes on grammar, and vocabulary, exercises and quizzes. In addition to developing verbal fluency, by the time the student is one-third the way through Book I he will have mastered the two phonetic syllabaries of Japanese Read more...

Another defining moment in the evolution of operating systems Small footprint operating systems, such as those driving the handheld devices that the baby dinosaurs are using on the cover, are just one of the cutting-edge applications you'll find in Silberschatz, Galvin, and Gagne's Operating System Concepts, Seventh Edition. By staying current, remaining relevant, and adapting to emerging course needs, this market-leading text has continued to define the operating systems course. This Seventh Edition not only presents the latest and most relevant systems, it also digs deeper to uncover those fundamental concepts that have remained constant throughout the evolution of today's operation systems. With this strong conceptual foundation in place, students can more easily understand the details related to specific systems. New Adaptations * Increased coverage of user perspective in Chapter 1. * Increased coverage of OS design throughout. * A new chapter on real-time and embedded systems (Chapter 19). * A new chapter on multimedia (Chapter 20). * Additional coverage of security and protection. * Additional coverage of distributed programming. * New exercises at the end of each chapter. * New programming exercises and projects at the end of each chapter. * New student-focused pedagogy and a new two-color design to enhance the learning process. Complete PCB Design Using OrCAD Capture and Layout is the first book to offer a complete guide on how to use the OrCAD design suite to design and manufacture printed circuit boards. Professionals and students will find this book to be an easily accessible resource covering topics from the basic PCB design principles to advanced levels of specific PCB layout, post processing, and PCB design for manufacturability (DFM) and signal integrity (EMI/EMC). Detailed instructions and realistic examples drawing from industry standards provide the reader with a comprehensive toolset on how to construct OrCAD Capture parts using the Capture Library Manager, Part Editor, and PSpice Model Editor. The examples build upon one another to show the multi-layered approach and uses of PCB Design and an extensive array of full color images designed to give the readers the most realistic examples possible. Padstacks are used as the foundation of both footprint design and PCB routing, so the reader will come away from Complete PCB Design with an in-depth knowledge of the extensive capabilities (and limitations) of the OrCAD software package. Schematic designs allow the reader to learn how to add PSpice simulation capabilities to the design, and how to develop custom schematic parts, footprints and PSpice models. Information is presented in the exact order a circuit and PCB are designed Straightforward, realistic examples present the how and why the designs work, providing a comprehensi Read more...

Software development projects can be fun, productive, and even daring. Yet they can consistently deliver value to a business and remain under control. Extreme Programming (XP) was conceived and developed to address the specific needs of software development conducted by small teams in the face of vague and changing requirements. This new lightweight methodology challenges many conventional tenets, including the long-held assumption that the cost of changing a piece of software necessarily rises dramatically over the course of time. XP recognizes that projects have to work to achieve this reduction in cost and exploit the savings once they have been earned. Fundamentals of XP include: * Distinguishing between the decisions to be made by business interests and those to be made by project stakeholders. * Writing unit tests before programming and keeping all of the tests running at all times. * Integrating and testing the whole system-several times a day. * Producing all software in pairs, two programmers at one screen. * Starting projects with a simple design that constantly evolves to add needed flexibility and remove unneeded complexity. * Putting a minimal system into production quickly and growing it in whatever directions prove most valuable. Why is XP so controversial? Some sacred cows don't make the cut in XP: * Don't force team members to specialize and become analysts, architects, programmers, testers, and integrators-every XP programmer participates in Read more...
