Written for Java programmers who want to integrate XML into their systems, this practical, comprehensive guide and reference shows how to process XML documents with the Java programming language. It leads experienced Java developers beyond the basics of XML, allowing them to design sophisticated XML applications and parse complicated documents. Processing XML with Java provides a brief review of XML fundamentals, including XML syntax; DTDs, schemas, and validity; stylesheets; and the XML protocols XML-RPC, SOAP, and RSS. The core of the book comprises in-depth discussions on the key XML APIs Java programmers must use to create and manipulate XML files with Java. These include the Simple API for XML (SAX), the Document Object Model (DOM), and JDOM (a Java native API). In addition, the book covers many useful supplements to these core APIs, including XPath, XSLT, TrAX, and JAXP. Practical in focus, Processing XML with JavaTis filled with over two hundred examples that demonstrate how to accomplish various important tasks related to file formats, data exchange, document transformation, and database integration. You will learn how to read and write XML documents with Java code, convert legacy flat files into XML documents, communicate with network servers that send and receive XML data, and much more. Readers will find detailed coverage of the following: * How to choose the right API for the job * Reading documents with SAX * SAX filters * Validation in several sche Read more...

The third edition of this standard textbook contains additional material: two new application sections (on graphical codes and their decoding) and about two dozen further exercises (with solutions, as throughout the text). Moreover, recent developments have been discussed and referenced, in particular for the travelling salesman problem. The presentation has been improved in many places (for instance, in the chapters on shortest paths and on colorings), and a number of proofs have been reorganized, making them more precise or more transparent. From reviews: ".... The book is a first class textbook and seems to be indispensable for everybody who has to teach combinatorial optimization. It is very helpful for students, teachers, and researchers in this area. The author finds a striking synthesis of nice and interesting mathematical results and practical applications. ... the author pays much attention to the inclusion of well-chosen exercises. The reader does not remain helpless; solutions or at least hints are given in the appendix. Except for some small basic mathematical and algorithmic knowledge the book is self-contained." (K. Engel, Mathematical Reviews (2002) "This book has been a pleasure to read and review. Its title is brief and self-explanatory, and the book has been well-produced and designed for both reference and systematic use. .... Firstly, it is an extremely clear text; ... This book provides a rich toolbox of design techniques and templates to solve practical, every-day problems using FPGAs. Using a modular structure, the book gives easy-to-find design techniques and templates at all levels, together with functional code, which engineers can easily match and apply to their application. The easy-to-find structure begins with a design application to demonstrate the key building blocks of FPGA design and how to connect them, enabling the experienced FPGA designer to quickly select the right design for their application, while providing the less experienced a road map to solving their specific design problem. Written in an informal and easy-to-grasp style, this invaluable resource goes beyond the principles of FPGA s and hardware description languages to actually demonstrate how specific designs can be synthesized, simulated and downloaded onto an FPGA. In addition, the book provides advanced techniques to create real world designs that fit the device required and which are fast and reliable to implement. An accompanying CDROM contains code, test benches and simulation command files for ModelSim. This book will be an indispensable, well-thumbed resource for FPGA designers of all levels of experience. * A rich toolbox of practical FGPA design techniques at an engineer's finger tips * Easy-to-find structure that allows the engineer to quickly locate the information to solve their FGPA design problem, and obtain the level of detail and Read more...

What are e, pi, and i, and who was Euler? Now, it is hard for me to believe that there are any literate readers in the world who haven't heard of the transcendental numbers e = 2.71828182... and pi = 3.14159265..., and of the imaginary number i. As for Euler, he was surely one of the greatest of all mathematicians. Making lists of the "greatest" is a popular activity these days, and I would wager that the Swiss-born Leonhard Euler (1707-1783) would appear somewhere among the top five mathematicians of all time on the list made by any mathematician in the world today (Archimedes, Newton, and Gauss would give him stiff competition, but what great company they are!). Matthew Killeya New Scientist : Nahin?s tale of the formula e[pi]i+1=0, which links five of the most important numbers in mathematics, is remarkable. Book - optimized DJVU file with searchable text, Instructor's Manual - PDF (OCR). Engineering Mathematics is a comprehensive textbook for vocational courses and foundation modules at degree level. John Bird's approach, based on numerous worked examples supported by problems, is ideal for students of a wide range of abilities, and can be worked through at the student's own pace. Theory is kept to a minimum, placing a firm emphasis on problem-solving skills, and making this a thoroughly practical introduction to the core mathematics needed for engineering studies and practice. The book presents a logical topic progression, rather than following the structure of a particular syllabus. However, coverage has been carefully matched to the two mathematics units within the new BTEC National specifications, and AVCE specifications. New sections on Boolean algebra, logic circuits matrices and determinants have been added to ensure full syllabus match. Includes: 900 worked examples, 1700 further problems, 234 multiple choice questions (answers provided), and 16 assessment papers - ideal for use as tests or homework. These are the only problems where answers are not provided in the book. Full worked solutions are available to lecturers only as a free download from http://textbooks.elsevier.com * A complete foundation mathematics course for engineering students * Student-friendly learn-through-examples method appeals to engineers * Includes 850 worked examples, 1500 proble Read more...

The market is flooded with numbers of good books on Embedded Systems designed especially with the most popular MCS51 family. These books are traditional in nature i.e. they start with the routine architectural features of 8051, description of registers, ports, interrupts etc. Most of these things are already covered in the device data sheet and application notes. In this book all such routine things are skipped. The focus is on programming microcontrollers, to be specific MCS-51 family in 'C' using Keil IDE. The book presents seventeen live case studies apart from the many basic programs organized around every on-chip resource like port, time/counter, interrupt , serial I/O etc. Rather than introducing the underpinning theory or reproducing lengthy data sheets, our approach is "learning-through-doing" and one that appeals to busy electronics designers. The 'C' codes given are well supported by easy to understand comments wherever required. Mastering the basic modules and hands on working with the projects will enable to grasp the basic building blocks for most 8051 programs. Whether you are a student using the MCS-51 family of microcontrollers for your project work or an embedded systems programmer, this is a book that will give you a kick-start in using and understanding the most popular microcontroller. Authors through their interaction with the undergraduate, postgraduate students as well as industry professionals have found that such a book is a need of the microcontr Read more...

This is an electronic version of the third (2005) edition of the above Springer book, from their series Graduate Texts in Mathematics, vol. 173. The cross-references in the text and in the margins are active links: click on them to be taken to the appropriate page. The third edition of this standard textbook of modern graph theory has been carefully revised, updated, and substantially extended. Covering all its major recent developments it can be used both as a reliable textbook for an introductory course and as a graduate text: on each topic it covers all the basic material in full detail, and adds one or two deeper results (again with detailed proofs) to illustrate the more advanced methods of that field. From the reviews of the first two editions (1997, 2000): "This outstanding book cannot be substituted with any other book on the present textbook market. It has every chance of becoming the standard textbook for graph theory." Acta Scientiarum Mathematiciarum "The book has received a very enthusiastic reception, which it amply deserves. A masterly elucidation of modern graph theory." Bulletin of the Institute of Combinatorics and its Applications "A highlight of the book is what is by far the best account in print of the Seymour-Robertson theory of graph minors." Mathematika ". . . like listening to someone explain mathematics." Bulletin of the AMS Review Graph Theory is a very well-written book, now in its third edition and the recipient of the according evoluti Read more...

Grzimek's Student Animal Life Resource: Corals, Jellyfish, Sponges and Other Simple Animals offers readers comprehensive and easy-to-use information on Earth's animals. Entries are arranged by taxonomy, the science through which living things are classified into related groups. Each entry includes sections on physical characteristics; geographic range; habitat; diet; behavior and reproduction; animals and people; and conservation status. Family entries are followed by one or more species accounts and a range map and photo or illustration for each species. Entries conclude with a list of books, periodicals, and Web sites that may be used for further research. This volume of Grzimek's Student Animal Life Resource: Corals, Jellyfish, Sponges and Other Simple Animals includes a pronunciation guide for scientific names, a glossary, an overview of birds, a list of species in the set by biome, a list of species by geographic location, and an index. The volume has nearly 200 full-color maps, photos, and illustrations to enliven the text, and sidebars provide additional facts and related information. Read more...
