English Grammar in Use Supplementary Exercises is for intermediate and advanced students who want extra practice in grammar, without help from a teacher.
There arc 200 exercises in this new edition. Each exercise relates to a unit or units in English Grammar in Use new edition 2004, with the unit number(s) at the top of the page. All the answers arc given in the Key (pages 121-136). Some exercises ask you to use your own ideas. For these, you can check the Example answers in the Key. You can use this book if you don't have English Grammar in Use, but for an explanation of the grammar points, you need to check in English Grammar in Use.
The grammar points covered in the book are not in order of difficulty, so you can go straight to the parts where you need the most practice. Where there arc several exercises on one grammar point, however, the easier ones come first. It's a good idea to do each exercise, check your answers and then go on to the next one.
Many of the exercises are in the form of emails, letters, conversations or short articles. You can use these as models for writing or speaking practice.

This material of this book was successfully used in a course of special relativity for advanced undergraduates at the University of Stockholm by the late professor Bertel Laurent, one of Oskar Klein's best students. When he sadly passed away shortly before retirement the manuscript was transformed into a book by his enthusiastic friend Stig Flodmark.
The book is unusual in that it does not discuss the historical, philosophical, and experimental background that most book dwell on a lot. Instead special relativity is clearly and simply presented with modern coordinate free (index free) notation as a correct and accepted theory of physics. I recommend it strongly as a concise, pedagogical, and compact course book with a modern point of view.

While most amateur astronomers know about the red shift, have a general idea of the way that the emission and absorption lines in stellar spectra provide an insight into the atomic processes of the star, it is unusual to find someone who has any kind of detailed knowledge. The reason isnt lack on interest far from it but is because all the books currently available are pitched at professional astronomers and degree students, and are to say the least, difficult to read.
This is the first non-technical book on this subject, written specifically for practical amateur astronomers. It includes all the science necessary for a qualitative understanding of stellar spectra, but avoids a mathematical treatment which would alienate many of its intended readers.
Any amateur astronomer who carries out (or who is interested in) observational spectroscopy and who wants a non-technical account of the physical processes which determine the intensity and profile morphology of lines in stellar spectra will find this is the only book written specially for him. And of course, "armchair astronomers" who simply want to understand the physical processes which shape lines in stellar spectra will find this book equally fascinating.
