A self-contained introduction to microprocessor theory and applications This book presents the fundamental concepts of assembly language programming and system design associated with typical microprocessors, such as the Motorola MC68000/68020 and Intel? Pentium?. It begins with an overview of microprocessors--including anexplanation of terms, the evolution of the microprocessor, and typical applications--and goes on to systematically cover: * Microcomputer architecture * Microprocessor memory organization * Microprocessor Input/Output (I/O) * Microprocessor programming concepts * Assembly language programming with the 68000 * 68000 hardware and interfacing * Assembly language programming with the 68020 * 68020 hardware and interfacing * Assembly language programming with Pentium * Pentium hardware and interfacing The author assumes a background in basic digital logic, and all chapters conclude with a Questions and Problems section, with selected answers provided at the back of the book. Microprocessor Theory and Applications with 68000/68020 and Pentium is an ideal textbook for undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in electrical engineering, computer engineering, and computer science. (An instructor's manual is available upon request.) It is also appropriate for practitioners in microprocessor system design who are looking for simplified explanations and clear examples on the subject. Additionally, the accompanyin Read more...

The authors cover everything: characters (Touchstone, the clown in As You Like It), places (Tours, the French city mentioned in Henry VI), animals (Tray, one of King Lear's three dogs), buildings (the Tower of London), officials (Roman Tribunes), rivers (the Trent), nationals ("Transylvanian"), nicknames (Monsieur Traveller, applied to Jaques in As You Like It), astrological groupings (Trigon, an astrological group of three signs), and much more. The Shakespeare Name Dictionary identifies them all in full, readable entries. The authors' coverage includes such information as the historical errors in Shakespeare's plays, as well as variant interpretations of names. Line references in the plays are keyed to the Oxford Shakespeare. With fuller coverage than anything currently available, The Shakespeare Name Dictionary-available in paperback for the first time--is the ultimate guide to the plays. Read more...

This book offers a unique opportunity to understand the essence of one of the great thinkers of western civilization. A guided reading of Euclid's Elements leads to a critical discussion and rigorous modern treatment of Euclid's geometry and its more recent descendants, with complete proofs. Topics include the introduction of coordinates, the theory of area, geometrical constructions and finite field extensions, history of the parallel postulate, the various non-Euclidean geometries, and the regular and semi-regular polyhedra. The text is intended for junior- to senior-level mathematics majors. Robin Hartshorne is a professor of mathematics at the University of California at Berkeley, and is the author of Foundations of Projective Geometry (Benjamin, 1967) and Algebraic Geometry (Springer, 1977). The first two volumes cover history and research methods; each of the next ten, a particular area of psychology: biological, experimental, personality and social, developmental, educational, clinical, health, assessment, forensic, and industrial and organizational. The first volume comprises 26 articles by approximately 60 contributors from American associations and academic institutions addressing the history of school, clinical, ethnic, and international psychologies, among other topics. The set's first article is the 20-page "Psychology as a Science," by Alfred Fuchs (Bowdoin) and Katharine S. Milar (Earlham). After a brief table of contents, the article addresses the philosophical and scientific origins of psychology, psychology's first laboratory, and the evolution of the discipline, especially in the US and Germany. The article concludes with a bibliography of about 200 titles. The last volume contains 23 articles by nearly 50 contributors. The last article in the set, the 16-page "Diversity in Organizations" by Clayton Alderfer and Adrienne D. Sims (both at Rutgers), discusses the meanings of diversity before addressing an initially inductive diversity study, individualism-collectivism theory, social identity theory, relation demography, and embedded intergroup relations theory. It ends with a brief conclusion and a 75- item bibliography. Each of the 12 volumes contains its own author and subject indexes. Read more...

Electrical Power Cable Engineering, Second Edition remains the foremost reference on low- and medium-voltage electrical power cables, cataloging technical characteristics and assuring success for cable manufacture, installation, operation, and maintenance. While segments on electrical cable insulation and field assessment have been revamped to reflect industry transformations, new chapters tackle distinctive topics like the location of underground system faults and the thermal resistivity of concrete, proving that this expanded edition lays a sound foundation for engineering decisions. It deconstructs the external variables affecting conductor, insulation, and shielding design. Review Electrical Power Cable Engineering, Second Edition meets its complex subject in a readable fashion, especially for those with limited background and experience:sufficient detail is provided for those with greater need in evaluating different cables for specific applications. In this book John Bird introduces electrical principles and technology through examples rather than theory - enabling students to develop a sound understanding of the principles needed by technicians in fields such as electrical engineering, electronics and telecommunications. No previous background in engineering is assumed, making this an ideal text for vocational courses at Level 2 and 3, foundation degree and introductory courses for undergraduates. The book presents a logical topic progression rather than following the structure of a particular syllabus. However, the coverage of this new edition has been brought fully in line with the electrical and electronics units of the 2007 BTEC National specification. It is also designed to cover the requirements of the BTEC First specifications. New material in this third edition includes brand new chapters on semiconductor diodes and transistors as well as added sections on batteries, fuel cells and alternative and renewable energies, relative and absolute voltages, self and mutual inductance, and virtual test and measuring instruments. Support material for tutors is available as a free download at http://textbooks.elsevier.com: * Instructor's manual with full solutions and suggested marking scheme for all 7 revision tests in the book * Solutions manual with worked solutions for about 400 of the further problems in the book * Electronic files for all illustrations in the book * New colour layout helps navigation an Read more...

Create Forms for Business Ensure Data Entry Accuracy Build Elegant Form Interfaces Collect Data Via Email Design Effective Business Reports Make an Invoice Report Create Mailing Labels Extract Data Work with Multiple Tables Calculate Discounts Analyze Data Develop your Microsoft Access expertise instantly with proven techniques Let’s face it: Microsoft Access is a large, intimidating program. Most people never progress beyond creating simple tables and using wizards to build basic forms and reports. At the same time, you need information and you know that what you seek is embedded somewhere in your Access database. Without a more sophisticated knowledge of how to extract and present that data, you’re forced to rely on office gurus and overworked IT people to provide canned reports or one-size-fits-all solutions. This book changes all that by giving you the skills to build efficient front-ends for data (forms), publish the results in an attractive and easy-to-read format (reports), and extract the data you need (queries). This book shuns the big Access picture and instead focuses intently on forms, reports, and queries. This in-depth approach will give you the knowledge and understanding you need to get at the data and prove the old saw that knowledge is power. · Focuses on the three technologies that you must master to get the most out of Access: forms, reports, and queries. · Avoids database theory in Read more...
