After reading through this book, I have decided to destroy it rather than donate it to the local library.
The amount of misinformation included here is almost dangerous in its scope. About half way through the book I realized that the inconsistencies would be obvious even to someone not experienced with computer technology

The preface is dedicated to MCSE instead of A+ exams.

On page 194 he claims that the original Pentiums

The book is riddled with this kind technical inaccuracy, making it unusable.

Sure, some of the information is useful - but what is the point of even trying to use it, if you have to double-check everything with another source because you can’t trust the author?

The next A+ book I read, I hope the author gets the FACTS right.. include 16KB L1 Cache. On page 195, he claims they support up to 512KB L1 Cache.

Summary: I have to agree that this book is very poor
Rating: 1

I, too, starting working on computerscomputer review

Certainly news to me, and Intel, that the Pentium III is available in Socket 478CPUS

That’s just an example from Chapter 1. I’m sure I’ll find a multitude more if I can stomach the rest of the book - there must be something useful in it. didn’t need heatsinks (yeah, maybe the 286). books. “A+ Certification Study Guide, Fifth Edition” by Michael Pastore needs to be removed from circulation. in 1991 and own dozens of , a contradiction to author’s prior statement that all P2s and P3s were SEC (Slot-1), or that prior

Unified Modeling Language (UML) is a general-purpose notation language for specifying and visualizing complex software, especially large, object-oriented projects. Object-oriented programming is when a programmer defines not only the data type of a data structure, but also the types of operations/functions that can be applied to the data structure.
Applying UML addresses the practical issues faced by users in adopting UML. As the title suggests, it helps the reader in actually applying UML to real life situations, rather than just in learning the language. The book covers in depth detail of UML, including notation on profiles and extensions. The scope of the book assumes prior experience in software engineering and/or business modeling, an understanding of object-oriented concepts and a basic knowledge of UML.

* Case study driven approach covering a wide range of issues
* Contains advanced tutorial material to aid learning
* Focuses on practical issues in the application of UML

# Language: English
# ISBN-10: 0470843446
# ISBN-13: 978-0470843444

XML is a powerful cross-platform mark-up language which has readily been adopted as a standard in many spheres of web and software development. Real benefits include its ease of integration into existing systems, the simplicity of using it in object-oriented environments and its wide applicability. Chris Bates shows how to use XML in modern software developments and backs up a thorough treatment of its key points with clear, practical examples.
Programmers and developers wanting both A-Z coverage and a practical how-to, will find stepwise guidance on:

Beginning XML, 4th Edition
Beginning XML provides a complete course in the Extensible Markup Language (XML) with an unusually gradual learning curve. In fact, the introduction states that the book is "for people who know that it would be a pretty good idea to learn the language, but aren't 100 percent sure why." Despite its recognition of the fuzziness of readers' understanding of the technology, the book delivers a rather comprehensive study of XML.

Very little space is wasted detailing the history of XML and its relation to SGML, as is the case in many other titles. The argument for the importance of XML is made quickly, and the basics of well-formed syntax are tackled right off. One notable distinction of this book is its excellent coverage of related technologies, such as cascading style sheets (CSS) and relational databases.

In addition to discussing the crucial companion standards to the core XML language (DTDs, XSL, and XSLT), the book adds a nice perspective to the broad range of applications in which XML can play a role. One section, "Other Uses for XML," illustrates how XML can be used to serialize object models, creating stateless objects and utilizing the Resource Description Framework (RDF). Case studies on--among other things--how XML can be used to build discussion groups, and provide B2B data transfer, round out the text. This book is perfect for Web programmers who are turning their attention to XML for the first time. It imparts a solid understanding of the XML forest and XML trees.

 XML Problem Design Solution

Author(s): Mitch Amiano, Conrad D’Cruz, Kay Ethier, Michael D. Thomas
Publisher: Wrox
Year: Jun 2006
ISBN: 0-471-79119-9
Language: English
File type: PDF
Pages: 356
Size (for download): 5.65 MB

If you’re reading this, you are likely ready to work with the Extensible Markup Language (XML) and are seeking some direction.

This book provides information about XMLand the issues involved in designing XML-based solutions for business problems. It does so in a case-study format, with each chapter taking one part of the single main project, and leading you through the design of a solution for that, so that by the end of the book, you will understand every aspect of using XMLto design business solutions.

After a broad-stroke introduction to XMLtechnologies, the book surveys solutions to typical business and technology needs that are best solved using XML. You’ll tackle XMLmarkup—more specifically, the kind of markup that you find “under the hood” of everyday applications and web services. Commonly available resources are used to show you the fundamentals of what XMLmarkup is, how to get at valuable information through these resources, and how to begin providing valuable information to others through XML.

The book thus emphasizes the fundamentals of structured markup, and uses commodity technologies such as XSLT and scripting to build working examples. Discussion of XMLSchema languages is limited to comparing and contrasting the major approaches within the framework of the working example.

This book is a nuts-and-bolts guide to help you leverage XMLapplications, some of which you didn’t even know you had. It covers XML1.0, and related technologies such as XSLT, XQuery, and XPath. The focus of the examples is on use of XMLto share information across the enterprise.

An XMLprimer helps novice users get off to a quick start. Readers then move into sections of increasing depth, each developing a more advanced treatment of XMLthan the one before. Readers who have some familiarity with the material are welcome to dive right in to a section to consider specific XMLapplication scenarios.

Beginning XML, Second Edition

# Paperback: 816 pages
# Publisher: Wrox; 2 edition (December 20, 2001)
# ISBN: 0764543946

Beyond MarkUp

# Paperback: 400 pages
# Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional (July 23, 2000)
# ISBN: 0201709147

The Extensible Markup Language (XML) has been anointed as the universal duct tape for all software integration problems despite XML's relatively humble origins in the world of document management systems. Essential XML presents a software engineering-focused view of XML and investigates how XML can be used as a component integration technology much like COM or CORBA. Written for software developers and technical managers, this book demonstrates how XML can be used as the glue between independently developed software components (or in the marketecture terminology du jour, how XML can act as the backplane for B2B e-commerce applications). Authors Don Box, Aaron Skonnard, and John Lam cover the key issues, technologies, and techniques involved in using XML as the adhesive between disparate software components and environments. They explain the fundamental abstractions and concepts that permeate all XML technologies, primarily those documented in the XML Information Set (Infoset). XML-based approaches to metadata, declarative, and procedural programming through transformation and programmatic interfaces are covered. Don Box, co-author of the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) specification, provides readers with insight into this emerging XML messaging technology for bridging COM, CORBA, EJB, and the Web. Readers acquire a better understanding of XML's inner workings and come to see how its platform, language, and vendor independence--along with its accessibility--make it an extraordinarily effective solution for software interoperation.

Osborne | ISBN: 0072194251 | 1249 pages | 3.4 MB | PDF

The idea of this book is to provide a reference guide to everything you could possibly want to know about Perl. I’ve done my best to try and cover all the different aspects, from the core of the language to the different functions, and on into the different tasks and areas of the Perl language. Simon Haykin - Kalman Filtering and Neural Networks

Simon S. Haykin, “Kalman Filtering and Neural Networks”
Wiley InterScience | ISBN 0471221546 (electronic) | 2001 | 284 pages | PDF | 4 MB RAR’ed

Book Description
State-of-the-art coverage of Kalman filter methods for the design of neural networks

This self-contained book consists of seven chapters by expert contributors that discuss Kalman filtering as applied to the training and use of neural networks. Although the traditional approach to the subject is almost always linear, this book recognizes and deals with the fact that real problems are most often nonlinear.

The first chapter offers an introductory treatment of Kalman filters with an emphasis on basic Kalman filter theory, Rauch-Tung-Striebel smoother, and the extended Kalman filter. Other chapters cover:

* An algorithm for the training of feedforward and recurrent multilayered perceptrons, based on the decoupled extended Kalman filter (DEKF)
* Applications of the DEKF learning algorithm to the study of image sequences and the dynamic reconstruction of chaotic processes
* The dual estimation problem
* Stochastic nonlinear dynamics: the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm and the extended Kalman smoothing (EKS) algorithm
* The unscented Kalman filter

Each chapter, with the exception of the introduction, includes illustrative applications of the learning algorithms described here, some of which involve the use of simulated and real-life data. Kalman Filtering and Neural Networks serves as an expert resource for researchers in neural networks and nonlinear dynamical systems.

An Instructor’s Manual presenting detailed solutions to all the problems in the book is available upon request from the Wiley Makerting Department.

Review
“Although the traditional approach to the subject is usually linear, this book recognizes and deals with the fact that real problems are most often nonlinear.” (SciTech Book News, Vol. 25, No. 4, December 2001)

The Special and the General Theory, The Masterpiece Science Edition

Relativity: The Special and the General Theory, The Masterpiece Science Edition
Pi Press | ISBN 0131862618| 2005-04-05 | PDF | 288 pages | 1.69 MB

From the Commentary by Robert Geroch (The corresponding section of Einstein’s text can be found below the comment. Please note that in the book, the Commentary is placed after the complete text of Relativity.)
Section 17. Space-Time
Minkowski’s viewpoint represents a “geometrization” of relativity. These ideas have, over the years, come to the forefront: They reflect the perspective of the majority of physicists working in relativity today. Let us expand on this viewpoint. The fundamental notion is that of an event, which we think of as a physical occurrence having negligibly small extension in both space and time. That is, an event is “small and quick,” such as the explosion of a firecracker or the snapping of your fingers. Now consider the collection of all possible events in the universe—all events that have ever happened, all that are happening now, and all that will ever happen; here and elsewhere. This collection is called space-time. It is the arena in which physics takes place in relativity. The idea is to recast all statements about goings-on in the physical world into geometrical structures within this space-time. In a similar vein, you might begin the study of plane geometry by introducing the notion of a point (analogous to an event) and assembling all possible points into the plane (analogous to space-time). This plane is the arena for plane geometry, and each statement that is part of plane geometry is to be cast as geometrical structure within this plane.
