Description: The objective of this book is to present an uncertainty modeling approach using a new type of fuzzy system model via “Fuzzy Functions”. Since most researchers on fuzzy systems are more familiar with the standard fuzzy rule bases and their inference system structures, many standard tools of fuzzy system modeling approaches are reviewed to demonstrate the novelty of the structurally different fuzzy functions, before we introduced the new methodologies.
To make the discussions more accessible, no special fuzzy logic and system modeling knowledge is assumed. Therefore, the book itself may be a reference for some related methodologies to most researchers on fuzzy systems analyses. For those readers, who have knowledge of essential fuzzy theories, Chapter 1, 2 should be treated as a review material. Advanced readers ought to be able to read chapters 3, 4 and 5 directly, where proposed methods are presented. Chapter 6 demonstrates experiments conducted on various datasets.

Description: Just like the periodical crystalline potential in solid-state crystals determines their properties for the conduction of electrons, the periodical structuring of photonic crystals leads to envisioning the possibility of achieving a control of the photon flux in dielectric and metallic materials.
The use of photonic crystals as a cage for storing, filtering or guiding light at the wavelength scale thus paves the way to the realisation of optical and optoelectronic devices with ultimate properties and dimensions. This should contribute toward meeting the demands for a greater miniaturisation that the processing of an ever increasing number of data requires.
Photonic Crystals intends to provide students and researchers from different fields with the theoretical background needed for modelling photonic crystals and their optical properties, while at the same time presenting the large variety of devices, from optics to microwaves, where photonic crystals have found applications. As such, it aims at building bridges between optics, electromagnetism and solid-state physics.
This book was written by six specialists of nanophotonics, and was coordinated by Jean-Michel Lourtioz, head of the Institut d’Électronique Fondamentale in Orsay and coordinator of the French Research Network in Nanophotonics.

Description: Recent developments in the technology of silicon nanocrystals and silicon nanostructures, where quantum-size effects are important, are systematically described including examples of device applications. Due to the strong quantum confinement effect, the material properties are freed from the usual indirect- or direct-bandgap regime, and the optical, electrical, thermal, and chemical properties of these nanocrystalline and nanostructured semiconductors are drastically changed from those of bulk silicon.
In addition to efficient visible luminescence, various other useful material functions are induced in nanocrystalline silicon and periodic silicon nanostructures. Some novel devices and applications, in fields such as photonics (electroluminescence diode, microcavity, and waveguide), electronics (single-electron device, spin transistor, nonvolatile memory, and ballistic electron emitter), acoustics, and biology, have been developed by the use of these quantum-induced functions in ways different from the conventional scaling principle for ULSI.

Description: Compact but comprehensive, this textbook presents the essential concepts of electronic circuit theory. As well as covering classical linear theory involving resistance, capacitance and inductance it treats practical nonlinear circuits containing components such as operational amplifiers, Zener diodes and exponential diodes. The book’s straightforward approach highlights the similarity between the equations describing direct current (DC), alternating current (AC) and small-signal nonlinear behaviour, thus making the analysis of these circuits easier to comprehend.
Introductory Circuits explains:
the laws and analysis of DC circuits including those containing controlled sources;
AC circuits, focusing on complex currents and voltages, and with extension to frequency domain performance;
opamp circuits, including their use in amplifiers and switches;
change behaviour within circuits, whether intentional (small-signal performance) or caused by unwanted changes in components.
In addition to worked examples within the text a number of problems for student solution are provided at the end of each chapter, ranging in difficulty from the simple to the more challenging. Most solutions for these problems are provided in the book, while others can be found on the accompanying website.
Introductory Circuits is designed for first year undergraduate mechanical, biomedical, materials, chemical and civil engineering students who are taking short electrical engineering courses and find other texts on the subject too content-heavy for their needs. With its clear structure and consistent treatment of resistive, reactive and small-signal operation, this volume is also a great supporting text for mainstream electrical engineering students.

Written completely from the perspective of the student, the text provides strong pedagogy along with an informal, interactive style to help students develop an effective understanding of important techniques and applications.
Worked out examples and exercises taken from biology, chemistry, economics, physics, and engineering enable students to see how math applies to their chosen majors.
Coverage of a graphing calculator and/or CAS (computer algebra system) is fully integrated into the text to help students construct the required graphs and numerical approximations.
Every chapter begins with an informal Introduction that sets the tone and prepares students for the material to come.
A narrative Summary at the end of each chapter reminds the reader of the important concepts in the chapter.
An appendix containing traditional coverage of series solutions is included in the back of the text.

The original edition of this revised book dates from the early 1980’s, so predates the use of personal computers for scheduling. The careful, methodical thinking that was essential when paper and pencil or mainframe computers were the only choices, is evident in the organization and subject matter of this book. Although currently popular PC scheduling software is addressed in this edition, the discipline of the underlying knowledge and methods are always evident. A welcome contrast to scheduling texts that want to “get to the good stuff”, such as schedule acceleration, before building a firm foundation.
The use of case studies from both construction and manufactoring were particluarly relavant. This is the most comprehensive and clear book on this subject I have found.

Goong Chen, David A. Church, Berthold-Georg Englert and oth., “Quantum Computing Devices: Principles, Designs, and Analysis”
Chapman & Hall/CRC | 2006 | ISBN: 1584886811 | 560 pages | PDF | 7,5 MB
One of the first books to thoroughly examine the subject, Quantum Computing Devices: Principles, Designs, and Analysis covers the essential components in the design of a “real” quantum computer. It explores contemporary and important aspects of quantum computation, particularly focusing on the role of quantum electronic devices as quantum gates. Largely self-contained and written in a tutorial style, this reference presents the analysis, design, and modeling of the major types of quantum computing devices: ion traps, cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED), linear optics, quantum dots, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID), and neutral atom traps. It begins by explaining the fundamentals and algorithms of quantum computing, followed by the operations and formalisms of quantum systems. For each electronic device, the subsequent chapters discuss physical properties, the setup of qubits, control actions that produce the quantum gates that are universal for quantum computing, relevant measurements, and decoherence properties of the systems. The book also includes tables, diagrams, and figures that illustrate various data, uses, and designs of quantum computing. As nanoelectronics will inevitably replace microelectronics, the development of quantum information science and quantum computing technology is imperative to the future of information science and technology. Quantum Computing Devices: Principles, Designs, and Analysis helps fulfill this need by providing a comprehensive collection of the most promising devices for the future.
