The Jabber Wizard:
Jabber is an open protocol to chat on the net. Similarly to mail, you can type messages to your friends on your keyboard. Unlike to mail, your friends see your messages on their monitors the same time you type them. There are plenty of chat protocols like this. Probably the best known one here is ICQ, or Aim, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN etc. But all of these concurrent are proprietorially, that means they have their own protocols, own clients and closed architecture, to which is nobody allowed to see.
