Welcome to the Autodesk 3ds Max 9 Essentials Courseware.
If you are new to 3ds Max, you’ll find that this book has been written with you in mind. The material contained within this volume
takes you from a raw beginner to a seasoned professional using 3ds Max confidently in a production environment.
This courseware manual was designed primarily for use in an instructor-led classroom, while providing complete instructions so
that individuals can also use the material to learn on their own. Since a variety of instructors in a multitude of learning environments
use this material, flexibility was built into its design. The manual comprises five chapters: Getting Started, Modeling, Animation,
Materials & Mapping and Rendering.
Each chapter has a series of theory lessons and one lab. The theory lessons introduce you to new functional areas of 3ds Max and
explain these features with short simple examples. The lab shows you a practical application of the theory learned in a particular
chapter. Combined, a chapter gives you a sound understanding of the functions, features, and principles behind 3ds Max, and show
you how to apply this knowledge to real-world situations.

Simply Maya The Pirate Ship - 1.6 GBIf you are a fan of the big sea and love old ships then the Pirate modeling - texturing tutorial is for you. This tutorial is intended for intermediate to advanced users of Maya who have a good understanding of the tools set.
You will start off the pirate ship project by creating Image planes to use as reference to achieve the basic shape and size of our ship using
nurbs primitives and nurbs curves. Once we have our ship blocked out we will begin converting into polygons to start adding details to the wood on the side of the ship. We’ll be using a variety of tools and techniques such as split polygon tool, 'move vertices' as well
as 'convert to Subdivisions'to have a bit more control over shaping the geometry. We will also do more nurbs curve work to create ropes
that hang down from the sails. After are ship model is complete the tutorial switches to preparing the model for texturing.
We will then enter the world of UV layouts and will be using a few different options to achieve this called such as automatic map'and planar map',
as well as learn how to effectively move any UVs that are overlapped using the tools in the UV editor to obtain a flat map. Once our UV's are finished
and we've taken a UV snap shot we then import our snapshot into a paint program and learn how to color and hand paint the ships'surface.

Review:
The best Perl Quick Reference
This is possibly the best perl quick reference book I've ever seen. I've read every perl reference I've been able to get my hands on, and this is by far the best. Fast, concise, and easy to read. The information is easy to locate and the examples help you to understand the exact usage of each command.

Review:
Mediocre at best. Not a quick reference. Too many typos.
Despite claiming to be a quick reference book, this book doesn't functionwell as such. It starts off with a reasonable basic tutorial which is a goodintroduction to the language. It's concise, but tells you what you need toknow, although obviously there is a limit to what can be covered in 45 pages. However, the 3/4 of the book that is the quick reference part is horriblyformatted, making it very hard to look something up quickly. E.g. every entryhas bold 'Compliance' logos (for NT, perl4 or perl5), which draw the eye, making the definition of each item, which is what you really wanted to see, hard to pick out. The absence of a one-line definition also makes it hard tofind what you want unless you already know the name.It is also completely lacking in useful summary tables of the variables, functions etc, even in alphabetic order, never mind by purpose, so you haveto flick through page by page looking for something you want. A table showingthe long and short equivalent names might be nice too. The page headers don'ttell you whether you are in variables, functions or operators either, onlythe first entry on the page -useless. The lack of tables is perhaps not _too_bad if you already know what you want, so more experienced users might notfine it so annoying, but it dramtically reduces it's utility as a'quick-reference' book. There is also an enormous number of mistakes, both in the examples and in thelayout. One appendix is in twice, under different titles! I find it hard tobelieve that anyone proof-read it.Over all, whilst it enabled me to get started with Perl, I found it deeplyunsatisfactory, and I am now going to buy a decent book. Not worth the money.

Book Description: )
Maven is a new project management and comprehension tool which provides an elegant way to share build logic across projects. In terms of capabilities, Maven is an improvement to Apache Ant-thanks to numerous plug-ins and built-in integration with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit. Tired of writing the same build logic for every project? Using Maven, you can leverage the experience of the community to avoid the tedious process of creating yet another build script for each new project. Maven: A Developer's Notebook begins by introducing you to the concept of project object model (POM), and then offers further details on the essential features of Maven. Like all titles in O'Reilly's Developer's Notebook series, this no-nonsense book skips the boring prose and cuts right to the chase. It's an approach that forces you to get your hands dirty by working through a series of poignant labs-exercises that speak to you instead of at you. Plus, Maven: A Developer's Notebook is the first book on the subject to hit the market, so you know the information is fresh and timely. If you're a Java programmer, you'll be armed with all the critical information you need to get up to speed on this powerful new build tool. You'll discover how Maven can help you:
- manage a project's build, reporting, and documentation, all from a central piece of information
- break a complex project into a series of smaller subprojects
- report on code quality, unit tests, code duplication, and project activity
- create a custom remote repository
- build simple and complex plug-ins
In the end, you'll find yourself spending less time working on your project's build system and more time working on your project's code.
