Yer ur a n00b srsly, educate yourself before you bash the latest and greatest installment of Windows yet, Vista will actually cache all your frequently used data into RAM via the Superfetch high-level filter, unlike shitty XP which just lets all ur RAM sit there and not be used and u gotta wait for shit to load, get a new computer or upgrade your dinosaur and get over XP/NT5 coz its inferior in every way NT6 is amazing once you get it right, yeah of course it'll eat more RAM than XP coz XP is like 7 years or so old now its shit and cant do anywhere near as much stuff as Vista, fixing my clients PC's XP is a pain in the ass now that im used to Vista its an engineer's/programmer's wish come true. Ur prolly just a kid but I remember that XP was unstable for at LEAST a year, everyone either stuck with 98 or the pr0's with 2000 until a bit after SP1 for XP but thats kinda diff anyway coz Windows 2000 is NT v5.0 and XP is v5.1 but Vista is NT v6.0 ITS THE NEXT BIG STEP DONT BASH EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES, ADAPT YOUR old school thinking into the 21st century or be left behind with the old crap of yester-year SERIOUSLY!

IM SO SICK OF PEOPLE BASHING VISTA AND 2008. FOR ONE, IT HAS .NET 2.0 AT THE CORE, SO ALL THESE DOTNET PROGRAMS ARE LIKE 1000% FASTER THAN XP. SECONDLY, THE DWM/AERO SERVICE PROVIDES A HARDWARE ACCELERATED UI UNLIKE XP WHICH USES SOFTWARE RENDERING/GDI+ TO RENDER THE GUI AND ITS SLOOOOOOOOOWWWWW TRY AN EXPERIMENT OPEN AS MANY EXPLORER WINDOWS AS FAST AS U CAN JUST KEEP BASHING WINKEY+E AND WHEN U GET TO A HIGH NUMBER WINDOWS IN XP IT'LL START TO CHOKE NO MATTER HOW FAST UR PC IS BUT VISTA WITH THE SAME AMOUNT OF WINDOWS WILL CRUIZZE ALONG, IF IT DOESNT UV GOT A SHIT PC AND EITHER PI$$ OFF THAT AMD SHIT AND GET AN INTEL, GET SOME MORE RAM OR FASTER RAM NOT CHEAP SHIT LIKE 800MHZ HIGH LATENCY KINGSTON GARBAGE AND THEN TWEAK UR THREAD I/O PRIORITIZATION FOR MORE LAX PROCESS SCHEDULING/CYCLING JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ

omfg ... switch to decaf srsly. Most educated people have realized that SP1 vista is pretty awesome, but jesus.

As everyone has stated before, Vista is "occupying" the RAM, not actually "using" the RAM. Say when you use your machine you have 100 apps installed, but the ones you open the most are FireFox and WoW. Vista will learn this trend over a period of time and will use superfetch to cache important parts of FF and WoW to make them load faster since your using them a lot.

Now, if you installed Photoshop but have only ever opened it 1-2 times, Vista will not superfetch it and it will load with comparable speed to XP.
