IE is integrated into the windows OS and has been since windows 98. the reason it still sees it is because of the registry (it still thinks its installed). best advice would be to restore IE all the way and use something else like Firefox, or Opera both are free and in my opinion work a lot better.. besides without the current version if IE windows update won't function.. i've heard of ways to uninstall IE but have also heard that it causes a lot of trouble......
