Why did it stop anyway? Does this DVD install properly at all on any PC? You should check it on another PC or in VMware, if it does not then you just need to burn a new one properly and finish the install process
What you can try is booting from a Vista install CD, or maybe that one and try a repair, like repair starup I mean. That should be possible with a Vista CD
If not, try this >>>
reverting from vista boot loader to xp :
- put the Vista install DVD in your player (or mount it)
- Go to windows console : start menu > execute then “cmd” in the console
- Go to the boot folder on vista’s hd (ie d:boot)
- Enter the following command : bootsect.exe -NT52 All
