I was wondering, as this driver works in Vista, would it work in win 7 if I ran it in Vista and then upgraded Vista to windows 7? Is it worth a try?

go to hardware manager and uninstall whatever is there for that device.
If nothing is there and W7 doesn't acknowledge that there is new hardware, then I would think u need to have an install program much bigger than just a .SYS file.
once uninstalled, reboot and W7 should see it as new hw and go to the driver install window.
U must specifically tell it where to look for the file, but it may only respond to the location of an INF file.
I sort of stumble my way thru these things.
XP, as I recall, asks at the beginning of the install if u want to add SCSI drivers. (F6)
Don't remember if W7 did that. It may not be able to see it if there is no up front driver installed.
good luck.

Hey
I don't have a problem with the high cpu usage. Now that it detects that it is 1.98 GHz instead of 800 Mhz means that it idles around 0-5% and with multiple things going on (youtube, WMP etc) its around 50-80%. In vista youtube alone woulda peaked it at 100%!!!
I tried installing the VIA Vinyl driver (v7.0b) but the setup wouldn't continue cause it could not detect compatible hardware. I tried installing it using the have disk option in device manager, but after a reboot the sound didn't work and device manager was saying device could not be started...
Hmm, if only the sound worked, this would be the best OS experience I've had on this machine
Thanks for you help. Any other ideas?

My Win7 64-bit is still a work in progress even for Microsoft apps: Internet Explorer 8 e Office 2007 sometimes hang in a way that even Task Manager cannot deal with. The processes are sorta "unstoppable"...
Anyway, I appreciated it so much that discarded my Vista and use Win7 with my work running in a XP SP3 session (unbeatable for stability) inside a Virtual PC 2007 SP1 window, but those crashes "the old fashioned way" are really bothersome...
Not the "Beta that is an improved Vista" people are talking about...

All I know is I have just deleted Kas Internet Security 2009 because it has been giving me false positives all the time, and kept allowing trojan horses through. And mine is the paid version not warez. I just got so sick of it.

Hey all,
I'm having a few weird problems with Windows 7. First, when I click on system properties it displays that my CPU is at 803 MHz (AMD Sempron 3100+ - 1.83 GHz). Consequently, task manager is showing 100% usage nearly all the time. The system feels much faster than when I had vista on it so I don't really know what's going on there. The motherboard is an NForce3 250 chipset. It worked fine under vista. I don't know if this is maybe a chipset driver problem or CPU driver problem, or is it a bug in Win 7?
Second problem is that my onboard AC'97 (not HD) audio suffers from crackly sound. If I play an MP3 file in WMP, it starts off ok, then after a few minutes the sound starts to crackle, and after a few more its incredibly crackly. After that, all sound on the system is crackly. This lead me to think its some kind of buffer problem perhaps?
Any help with these issues would be highly appreciated, as windows 7 does blow the socks off vista, but these problems are making it hard to use for an everyday PC.
Thanks

I would say that you download Process Explorer (which is free) and pin point what causes your cpu to be at 100%. It possibly also cause problem with audio because the CPU is too busy and cause cracking sound.
Download Process Explorer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... 96653.aspx
By any chance it is either Svchost.exe or TrustedInstaller.exe that taking up all your cpu?
