installing xp on ext. hardrive

so i just bought a new hd and i made a partition for it but now i can't install it on there, it says "windows does not have access to the harddrive" or something like that. i remember seeing a version of xp that was specifically designed for a usb stick does anyone have it?

or does anyone know a way to be able to install it on my hd?
