To fix a damaged XP boot off the Windows XP installation disc. Proceed as if you are going to install
(but you are not). You will get a message about Repairing installation two times. Do not take this option
the first time. Take the option the second time you see it. It will then reload all the XP system
files. None of your other data such as contacts, music, documents, favorites etc. will be touched.
I am not 100% sure but I believe this is the procedure I used on XP before.
