This authoritative reference provides readers with a thorough understanding of IP Mobility using Mobile IPv6 and companion advanced mobility protocols including network mobility and fast handovers. It illustrates basic concepts and principles behind the IP Mobility architecture and covers the practices using detailed protocol description. Of particular importance is how mobile networking will support billions of devices without restricting applications or overburdening network infrastructures, and how it will support the movement of users from network to network without compromising security.
Authors Koodli and Perkins investigate how IP mobility is used in practice and the adoption of Mobile IPv6 in CDMA cellular systems. They also cover some experimental work, including performance of VoIP handovers over WLAN, multi-access network handovers, and emerging topics such as location privacy.
In five parts, Mobile Inter-networking with IPv6 covers:
- Features of IPv6 and IP security
- Mobility concepts and principles, Mobile IPv6 protocol, packet handling, and network mobility
- Advanced mobility protocols, including fast handovers, fast handover protocol, context transfers, and hierarchical mobility management
- Applying IP mobility, including Mobile IPv6 in CDMA packet data networks, enterprise mobile networking, and WLAN fast handovers
- Emerging topics such as multi-access and mobility, seamless IP handovers, location privacy and IP mobility, and route optimization for Mobile IPv4 using Mobile IPv6 return routability
With chapter exercises and handy references, readers will have plenty of opportunities to pursue topics in further detail. This is a comprehensive reference suitable for practitioners and students with a basic understanding of TCP/IP protocols.

The setting for this book is the networked community. The treatment of the subject matter is broad and interdisciplinary, with contributions from computer science, sociology, design, human factors and communication technology.
The chapter contributors, drawn from across Europe and North America, offer a varied prospectus of commentary, critique, sociological enquiry, technological development and research findings, which provides a rounded account of the progressive intermingling of social and electronic networks.
The contributors discuss the ways in which the Internet affects both familial and social relationships, communal and civic involvement, social capital and work patterns and lifestyle. Civic intelligence is presented as a nascent concept from which future social networks of increased public advocacy, scrutiny and action may be sourced. Other reported developments include agent-based community systems to model and support communal memory and social knowledge.
The opening section provides a purview of the broad scene covered by the book, followed by discussions about the current state of connected communities. Following this there are case studies illustrating the different aspects of research, both sociological and technological, in this area. The final part reports the variety and the scope of technology-mediated human-to-human communication in a connected community setting today.

This comprehensive examination of the main approaches to object-oriented language explains the key features of the languages in use today. Class-based, prototypes and Actor languages are all looked at and compared in terms of their semantic concepts. In providing such a wide-ranging comparison, this book provides a unique overview of the main approaches to object-oriented languages.
Exercises of varying length, some of which can be extended into mini-projects are included at the end of each chapter. This book can be used as part of courses on Comparative Programming Languages or Programming Language Semantics at Second or Third Year Undergraduate Level. Some understanding of programming language concepts is required.

Pro Active Record helps you take advantage of the full power of your database engine from within your Ruby programs and Rails applications. ActiveRecord, part of the magic that makes the Rails framework so powerful and easy to use, is the model element of Rail's model/view/controller framework. It's an object-relational mapping library enabling you to interact with databases from both Ruby and Rails applications.
Because ActiveRecord is configured with default assumptions that mesh perfectly with the Rails framework, Rails developers often find they hardly need think about it at all. However, if you are developing in Ruby without Rails, or are deploying against legacy databases designed without Rails in mind, or you just want to take advantage of database-specific features such as large objects and stored procedures, you need the in-depth knowledge of ActiveRecord found in this book.
In Pro Active Record, authors Kevin Marshall, Chad Pytel, and Jon Yurek walk you through every step from the basics of getting and installing the ActiveRecord library to working with legacy schema to using features specific to each of today's most popular database engines, including Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, and more! You’ll come to a deep understanding of ActiveRecord that will enable you to truly exploit all that Ruby, Rails, and your chosen database platform have to offer.

Introducing the technology from square one through real-world design applications, this book will significantly reduce R&D time - and spend. Eddie Insam's approach to the internet protocols TCP/IP is to explore their potential as a practical tool for design engineers building web communication and capabilities into embedded systems for the next generation of electronic products.
Eddie Insam introduces the range of possibilities open to internet-enabled designs, including automated fault and low-stock notification, remote environmental control, control of test and measurement equipment, and programming responses based on data collected locally. These techniques are introduced as they key to a new level of interactivity between customer and manufacturer or service provider as well as a the means for users to communicate with electronic devices in increasingly useful and user-friendly ways. These new opportunities are introduced with the level of practical detail required for electronic designers getting to grips with turning the next phase of the internet revolution into reality.
The scope of this book encompasses electronic design, networking applications and wireless applications using Bluetooth and 802.11 (WiFi). The case studies are not based on one specific device, but listings are provided where required.
*An engineer's approach to internet protocols and applications
*Reduces R&D time for design engineers
*The design guide for the cutting edge of internet-enabled electronic products and systems

The purpose of this book is to describe a practical approach for making sense out of data. A step-by-step process is introduced that is designed to help you avoid some of the common pitfalls associated with complex data analysis or data mining projects. It covers some of the more common tasks relating to the analysis of data including (1) how to summarize and interpret the data, (2) how to identify nontrivial facts, patterns, and relationships in the data, and (3) how to make predictions from the data.
The book is focused on practical approaches and contains information on how the techniques operate as well as suggestions for when and how to use the different methods. Each chapter includes a further reading section that highlights additional books and online resources that provide background and other information. At the end of selected chapters are a set of exercises designed to help in understanding the respective chapter’s materials.
Making Sense of Data educates readers on the steps and issues that need to be considered in order to successfully complete a data analysis or data mining project. The author provides clear explanations that guide the reader to make timely and accurate decisions from data in almost every field of study. A step-by-step approach aids professionals in carefully analyzing data and implementing results, leading to the development of smarter business decisions. With a comprehensive collection of methods from both data analysis and data mining disciplines, this book successfully describes the issues that need to be considered, the steps that need to be taken, and appropriately treats technical topics to accomplish effective decision making from data.
