With the boom of Internet, IP-based applications, such as WWW and multimedia, bave been an essential part of our life, and there is an ever-increasing demand for accessing high-speed Internet services anywhere and anytime. This trend unavoidably has huge impacts on the design of the next-generation satellite systems. On the other hand, with its broadcasting nature and unique coverage, satellite systems also can play an important role in the next-generation Internet. For example, satellite systems can be a good driver for the deployment of IPv6 in the Internet, and can provide a fast way to reach end-users because they do not rely on construction of a high-speed terrestrial networks. The book first discusses the various integration approaches available and introduces the Enterprise Service Bus, which is a new Architectural pattern that can facilitate integrating services. ESB provides different forms of mediation services including routing and transformation. Java Business Integration (JBI) provides a collaboration framework that provides standard interfaces for integration components and protocols to plug into, thus allowing the assembly of Service-Oriented Integration (SOI) frameworks following the ESB pattern. JBI is based on JSR 208, which is an extension of Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE). Once JBI and ESB are introduced, we look at how we have been doing service integration without either of these using traditional J2EE. The book then slowly introduces ESB and, with the help of code, showcases how easily things can be done using JBI.

The best (if sometimes troublesome) selections relate personal experiences: a woman trucker is severely wounded; a tanker fights his way into Fallujah, enthusiastically describing the men he kills; a base commander fires an obstreperous Iraqi employee. More literary efforts are less successful, with several wince-inducing attempts at poetic battlefield imagery. Tributes to fallen comrades often fall into mawkishness. Burden warns that unfettered war blogging may soon disappear under the heavy hand of military censorship, but if our leaders are worried about criticism of their policies, Burden's book will reassure them.
