In what Collins terms a prequel to the bestseller Built to Last he wrote with Jerry Porras, this worthwhile effort explores the way good organizations can be turned into ones that produce great, sustained results. To find the keys to greatness, Collins's 21-person research team (at his management research firm) read and coded 6,000 articles, generated more than 2,000 pages of interview transcripts and created 384 megabytes of computer data in a five-year project). That Collins is able to distill the findings into a cogent, well-argued and instructive guide is a testament to his writing skills. After establishing a definition of a good-to-great transition that involves a 10-year fallow period followed by 15 years of increased profits, Collins's crew combed through every company that has made the Fortune 500 (approximately 1,400) and found 11 that met their criteria, including Walgreens, Kimberly Clark and Circuit City.Download Here

John Chambers has been the principal designer of the S language since its beginning, and in 1999 received the ACM System Software award for S, the only statistical software to receive this award. He is author or coauthor of the landmark books on S. Now he turns to R, the enormously successful open-source system based on the S language. R's international support and the thousands of packages and other contributions have made it the standard for statistical computing in research and teaching. This book guides the reader through programming with R, beginning with simple interactive use and progressing by gradual stages, starting with simple functions. More advanced programming techniques can be added as needed, allowing users to grow into software contributors, benefiting their careers and the community. R packages provide a powerful mechanism for contributions to be organized and communicated. The techniques covered include such modern programming enhancements as classes and methods, namespaces, and interfaces to spreadsheets or data bases, as well as computations for data visualization, numerical methods, and the use of text data. Web applications no longer need be powered by any one individual's data, and they don't need to be confined to the desktop. Developers can draw on a wealth of publicly available content, from providers such as Flickr, Amazon, Google, Twitter, and Last.fm, and combine it for use in their own applications. Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) makes it simple to bring previously web-only applications to the desktop, allowing them to run alongside traditional applications on an end user's computer.
In this book, you'll learn how to create mashup applications from the vast array of web services, feeds, and APIs using Adobe Flash and Flex together with HTML and JavaScript (Ajax). You'll be introduced to the various sources of information and the tools necessary to gather and reuse that information, and then you'll learn how to combine that content in a variety of ways.
You'll learn how to have desktop applications interact with online services such as Flickr, you'll learn how to use Amazon S3 for enterprise-level data storage, and you'll embrace technologies such as OpenID. In addition, you'll create abstract visualizations based on music sourced from Last.fm and consume Twitter content via RSS. You will also see how to use the Flash-native data format SWX along with PHP to create a Yahoo! weather widget.
You'll discover just why you may want to build a widget or a desktop application rather leaving things web-based; then you'll create an application using Flex Builder and AIR and learn how best to distribute it. With so many tools and so much data available, the possibilities for mashup creation are endless. Creating Mashups with Adobe Flex and AIR provides all you need to get you up and running quickly, while also giving you a solid understanding of the technologies involved so you can take things further—to a place limited only by your imagination.
In this book you'll learn
- how to use Flex 3 in conjunction with ActionScript 3.0 to build powerful applications;
- how you can use Adobe AIR to take your application from the Web and onto the
desktop;
- the differences between developing for the Web and for the desktop;
- how you can use the APIs of popular web services such as Flickr, Amazon, Google, Twitter, and Last.fm as data sources for your application; and
- how to optimize your applications for fast and efficient performance.

The importance of quality of service (QoS) has risen with the recent evolution of telecommunication networks, which are characterised by a great heterogeneity. While many applications require a specific level of assurance from the network; communication networks are characterized by different service providers, transmission means and implementer solutions such as asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), Internet protocol version 4 (IPv4), IPv6 and MPLS.
Providing comprehensive coverage of QoS issues within heterogeneous network environments, “QoS Over Heterogeneous Networks” looks to find solutions to questions such as does QoS fit within heterogeneous networks and what is the impact on performance if information traverses different network portions that implement specific QoS schemes.
An ideal book for graduate students, researchers and lecturers. System designers, developers and engineers will also find “QoS Over Heterogeneous Networks” a valuable reference.

This book is a fairly comprehensive resource on writing VBA code to exchange data among the main Office applications (Access, Word, Excel, and Outlook), using Access as the central application for storing data, and using the other applications for producing attractively formatted documents of various types.
By the time you have completed the Access 2007 VBA Bible, you will be well-prepared to write VBA Automation code that uses your Access data to produce Word letters, mailing labels and other documents (without the overhead of mail merge), to create Excel worksheets and PivotCharts, and to create Outlook appointments, mail messages, contacts, and journal items, with or without attachments. Additionally, you will be able to synchronize contact data (both ways) between Access and Outlook.
The book is written for the Access/Office developer or power user who is familiar with working with Office applications (particularly Access) in the interface, and has at least a basic familiarity with writing VBA code, but needs more information on how to write Automation code to work with Word, Excel, and Outlook objects, so as to be able to use each Office application for creating the documents that are its specialty, while storing most of the data in Access databases.
To run the sample code in this book, you need a computer capable of running at least Windows XP, and of course you need Office 2007. Because Office 2007 runs fine on Windows XP, you don’t need Windows Vista, but Office 2007 works even better on Vista.

CBT Nuggets Cisco CCSP - Exam-Pack 642-513: HIPS Are you prepared for malicious attacks on your network? Rest easy with Cisco CCSP - HIPS.
This video series shows you how to configure and deploy Cisco Security Agent (CSA) Management Center (MC) — a terrific weapon for defeating attacks and gaining security piece of mind. Once CSA MC is installed, and your system is rebooted, it provides immediate protection for all the workstations, hosts and servers throughout your system.
The CSA MC is a vital part of Cisco's Self-Defending Network (SDN) strategy, which offers you a layered approach to network security. Threats, both internal and external, can't slip through your defenses just by defeating a single obstacle; CSA MC lets you put other layered security barriers in place to keep your system safe and secure.
HIPS includes Agent Kits, which ease your network administrator tasks by simplifying the installation process. This training shows you how to set up Agent Kits step by step.
Because this security strategy lets you group hosts as you please, you'll spend less time deploying software updates. It also provides variables, so you won't need to create the same security rules over and over again. Variables let you apply rules quickly throughout your network. And they also let you group similar components for easier management — such as data sets, file sets, network address sets, network services sets, registry sets, COM component sets and query settings.
Many security rules are common to both Windows and UNIX, but others are specific to one or the other. This training makes sure you know which is which and how to handle system-specific rules.
The training also goes into detail on event logging, report generation and monitoring applicant deployment behavior and investigation — vital topics for every security administrator.
In addition to giving you practical, hands-on instruction, the training in Exam-Pack 642-513: HIPS maps to exam objectives. It prepares you to describe, configure, and verify the Cisco Security Agent product for the simulation- and knowledge-based HIPS exam. Exam 642-513: HIPS is one of five exams required to earn the Cisco Certified Security Professional certification.
The CCSP-HIPS video series contains:

Writing code is rewarding, but writing high-quality code, on time and at the lowest possible cost, is what makes a software project successful. As the role of a professional developer has evolved and taken on additional responsibilities, it is now necessary to work in concert with a team in order to improve both the process and final results of a software project. This unique book introduces a set of concrete best practices and construction techniques that can be applied to the development process and to actual code construction, so that you can confidently solve business problems rather than deal solely with pure coding tasks.
Patrick Cauldwell understands that it is no longer sufficient to just write software that solves a problem; it must also be fast, scalable, reliable, and easy to use. In this reference, he explains how to build software that is of high quality at a lower cost and shares with you the practical steps you must take in order to transition from software engineer to technical lead.Download Here

How should companies be organized? To whom should boards of directors be responsible-shareholders, or a wider group of stakeholders? In this fiercely competitive world we cannot judge our own system of corporate governance in isolation; it must bear comparison with the best. The second edition of this acclaimed and well-established book aims to do just that. Since publication of the first edition interest in corporate governance has greatly increased, codes have proliferated, and principles laid down nationally and internationally. In Keeping Good Company, the author describes developments in the system of corporate governance-both the business environment and the particular structures of company organization-in five major industrial countries: Germany, Japan, France, the USA and the UK. This second edition is fully revised, updated and expanded, and includes a new conclusion looking at a number of ongoing issues in corporate governance, and an appendix discussing the role of international organizations.Download Here

International trade is a matter of vital importance for developing countries, since it can stimulate growth and contribute to poverty reduction. Trade is, however, an increasingly complex issue, and policymakers in developing countries will need to understand the many ramifications of multilateral trade agreements if their countries are to benefit from this engine of growth. Development, Trade, and the WTO summarizes the economics of sound trade policy, explains behind-the-border regulatory issues, and presents a range of perspectives on trade-related issues. It also contains relevant data and training material. Policymakers, trade negotiators, indeed any reader interested in international trade, will find this book invaluable.

It's hard to say how private investigators would react to books like J. J. Luna's How to Be Invisible–while it makes their jobs a lot harder, most of them are paid by the hour. If you want to withdraw from the snooping eyes of the government, corporations, stalking ex-boyfriends, or practically anyone else, this practical, down-to-earth guide will help you and your family vanish. It's not a glamorous James Bond life Mr. Luna is inviting you to take part in; it's probably much like the life you're living right now. Spending much of the early part of the book frightening the reader with tales of stalkers and mistaken identities, the author successfully makes his case that a few adjustments to an individual's personal information flow can make a life-or-death difference. While getting his plan off the ground will take a bit of planning and effort (you have to move at least once to clear your trail), it is sustainable and worthwhile even for those who think they have nothing to hide. Learn about anonymous travel and purchase, using trusts and corporations to keep your assets private, and how recent laws (the book's date of publication is 2000) significantly affect older methods of guaranteeing privacy. Luna makes no claim to know the law where you live and suggests that you consult a trusted local attorney before implementing most of his advice. Just knowing how easily a criminal can learn about and exploit your personal information will make you want to do just that.

My goal in writing this book is to share with you some of what I know about Excel, and in the process, make you more efficient on the job. The book contains everything that you need to know to learn the basics of Excel and then move on to more advanced topics at your own pace. You’ll find many useful examples and lots of tips and tricks that I’ve accumulated over the years.
In this book, I’ve tried to maintain a good balance between the basics that every Excel user needs to know and the more complex topics that will appeal to power users. I’ve used Excel for nearly 20 years, and I realize that almost everyone still has something to learn (including myself). My goal is to make that learning an enjoyable process.
This book was written for Excel 2007 for Windows. No exceptions. If you’re using an older version of Excel, I suggest that you put down this book immediately and find a book that’s appropriate for your version of Excel. The changes in Excel 2007 are so extensive that you’ll probably be hopelessly confused if you use an earlier version.

Part 2 - Working with Formulas and Functions
Part 3 - Creating Charts and Graphics
Part 4 - Using Advanced Excel Features

If you're developing a content management system in PHP 5, there are times when you simply have to roll-your-own, for whatever reason. In those situations, this book will be invaluable. If you're looking for an inside guide to putting together the working framework of a flexible, robust content management system in PHP 5, this book is for you.
As a former development team leader on the renowned Mambo open-source content management system, author Martin Brampton offers unique insight and practical guidance into the problem of building an architecture for a content management system. Following the scene-setting first chapter, each chapter in the book tackles a different aspect of developing the author's new Aliro PHP 5 CMS framework, with: . A concise statement of the problem . Discussion of the important design issues and problems faced . Creation of the framework solution The framework is built on a strongly object-oriented architecture throughout, including adherence to MVC principles, and you will learn how to create classes for handling such things as menus, modules, components, sessions, and user tracking. Administration and security issues are discussed as an integral part of the design and implementation of framework features.Download Here

As the resident expert and cohost of Celebrity Poker Showdown, Phil has quickly become one of the most sought-after teachers of No Limit Texas Hold'em. It's a tough game. The author of this book demonstrates that you can write well-designed, resilient code incrementally and safely, while minimizing your investment in speculative up-front design.
See eXtreme Programming (XP) in action at the hands of an XP mater—and learn Microsoft .NET and C# programming in the process! In this fast-paced, hands-on exposition, Ron Jeffries—one of the leading voices and practitioner in the XP community—demonstrates that you can write well-designed, resilient code incrementally and safely, while minimizing your investment in speculative up-front design. As Jeffries builds his sample application, you get firsthand insights into what successful XP development looks like, complete with real-world challenges such as the eleventh-hour change order. For further practice and study, you can download all the author’s code—including missteps—so you can see XP and agile concepts in action and assess how they fit into your own work.
This book is a chronicle of a little project done in the style XP recommends, insofar as I’m capable of doing what I teach. The project includes many of the things that befall real projects: people leave the project and come back, new people come in for a while, key people get sick, hard problems crop up, and so on. We even get a difficult “surprise” requirement. To make it even more difficult, I chose a programming language and environment that I had never used before the start of the project, namely C# and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET.

Learn to program a Flash based Mp3 music player using Actionscript 3. The Features List (and roughly what's taught) includes…
-Dynamically load track locations from a text document (or simply write them in the Flash file). Easily update your player without republishing by simply editing file names (like "track1.mp3" ) in a text document.
-Use ID3 tags (embedded meta-data) in the MP3 file to display track name, artist, album and year. All this player requires is the location of your MP3 file, you do NOT have to specify the track info yourself.
-Change the audio balance by sliding between the left and right speakers. This is the first two types of sliders you'll learn to programm, the volume slider is the second.
-Minimize or Maximize the player (using that triangle in the bottom right). Switch the player to a more compact mode while not choosing tracks. You can decide how much you want to mask out.
- Spectrum bars animate based on highs and lows of the left and right speakers. Yes finally a player with working spectrum bars. You can adjust the visuals for this to look however you want.
-You always have the option to change the visual appearance of the player. Tint it, stretch it, brand it, do whatever you want to the player art.
-Drag it! The entire player can be repositioned by dragging the shell.

A broad overview of the home networking field, ranging from wireless technologies to practical applications
In the future, it is expected that private networks (e.g., home networks) will become part of the global network ecosystem, participating in sharing their own content, running IP-based services, and possibly becoming service providers themselves. This is already happening in the so-called "social networks" and peer-to-peer file sharing networks on the Internet—making this emerging topic one of the most active research areas in the wireless communications field.
This book bridges the gap between wireless networking and service research communities, which, until now, have confined their work to their respective fields. Here, a number of industry professionals and academic experts have contributed chapters on various aspects of the subject to present an overview of home networking technologies with a special emphasis on the user as the center of all activities. Coverage includes:
-
Networked home use cases and scenarios
-
Media format, media exchange, and media interoperability
-
Location-aware device and service discovery
-
Security in smart homes
-
Secure service discovery protocol implementation for wireless ad-hoc networks
-
Multimedia content protection in consumer networks
-
Mobile device connectivity in home networks
-
Unlicensed mobile access/generic access network
-
Wireless sensor networks in the home
-
Ultra-wideband and sensor networking in the home environment
With a balanced mix of practice and theory, Technologies for Home Networking focuses on the latest technologies for speedier, more reliable wireless networking and explains how to facilitate workable end-to-end solutions from a user's perspective. This book is an ideal resource for practicing engineers, designers, and managers with an interest in home networking and also serves as a valuable text for graduate students.

This book focuses on the subsystems and devices on the data plane. There is a brief introduction to IP network management to familiarize readers with how the network is managed, as many routers are interconnected together.
The book starts with an introduction to today’s and tomorrow’s networks, the router architectures and their building blocks, examples of commercial high-end routers, and the challenging issues of designing high-performance high-speed routers.
A distinction of this book is that we provide as many figures as possible to explain the concepts. Readers are encouraged to first scan through the figures and try to understand them before reading the text. If fully understood, readers can skip to the text to save time. However, the text is written in such a way as to talk the readers through the figures.
This book is an appropriate text for senior and graduate students in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science. They can embrace the technology of the Internet so as to better position themselves when they graduate and look for jobs in the highspeed networking field. This book can also be used as a reference for people working in the Internet-related area. Engineers from network equipment vendors and service providers can also benefit from the book by understanding the key concepts of packet switching systems and the key techniques of building high-speed and high-performance routers.

What kind of secrets are included in 501 Web Site Secrets? Well, there’s parts of a site you didn’t know existed. Or ways to use the site that you weren’t aware of. Or special commands that help you get even more out of the site than you could before. Cool stuff like that—and more.
That’s the nature of a secret—something that most users don’t know about, but would get a kick out of if they did. These are the kinds of things that will make you say to yourself, “That’s cool—I didn’t know you could do that!” And then you’ll want to go directly to the site to try the secret out for yourself. (Go ahead; it’s allowed.)
Of course, not all 501 secrets in this book will be new to you. If you’re Internetsavvy at all, you’ll probably know some of what I reveal in these pages. That’s okay; it only means that you’re on your toes. I’m sure, however, that you’ll find more than a few secrets you didn’t know, and that they’ll make this book a worthwhile read for you.
Using this book is as simple as turning to the chapter on a particular site, reading through the secrets, then trying them on your own. You don’t need any particular technical expertise to take advantage of these secrets, although some familiarity with the sites in question is helpful. There’s no fancy programming, no high-level coding, just a lot of common-sense information that you probably didn’t know before.

Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax) is a web technique used to transfer data between a browser and server asynchronously without posting the web page to the server. "Asynchronously" implies that the processing of the web page continues while the Ajax request is sent to the server and a response is received from the server. The web page, or section(s) of the web page, is refreshed with the Ajax response without reposting the web page. Ajax has the following advantages over non-Ajax web applications.
- Reduced response time and reduced server load, as the complete web page is not reposted.
- Reduced bandwidth of web applications as only data is transferred and the HTML format is applied in the browser.
- Separation of data, format and style.
The book covers web search and RSS Feed with Ajax as well as form validation with Ajax frameworks for Java, JSP, JSF, and PHP. It discusses using Ajax in Oracle JDeveloper and is IDE based. JDeveloper has the following advantages over Eclipse IDE.
- JDeveloper 11g provides an integrated JavaScript Editor for Ajax/Web development.
- It also provides a PHP extension.
- JDeveloper has a built-in support for JSF and for JDBC.
