This book should be read by anyone who cares about the security and privacy of their online information, and wants to know how to take steps to protect it … and that should be everyone. This book should be read by anyone who wants to “do the right thing” and ensure that they do not inadvertently compromise their employer’s, or their own, sensitive information … and that should be everyone.
Modern corporations do their best to hammer home the message of security through training, communications, and outright begging. The message often falls on deaf ears, not because employees want to make their workplaces unsafe, but rather, because the topic is so complex and wide-ranging that it simply is overwhelming. As an information security professional, it is their charge to make the online world safer for all of us. None of us tolerates a crime spree in our neighborhood. Likewise, we should not tolerate the current crime wave that is sweeping the Internet, one which truly threatens to stifle the e-commerce and e-communications that we have come to know and rely on.

The Legend of Bruce Lee 2 DVD
Unique film biography of the greatest masters of martial arts Bruce Lee, from his childhood and ending with the tragic loss. Chinese filmmakers with amazing precision to recreate all the interiors and the circumstances of the filming of Bruce Lee, told about his family, his difficult journey from boy-student of the prestigious college superstars to world cinema!
How Bruce Lee Changed the World (2009)
With his laser-quick hands and feet, steely body, and vast knowledge of Chinese martial arts, Bruce Lee was a one-of-a-kind powerhouse, taking on and taking out the bad guys with gusto. His astonishing skills brought him fame and movie roles, but who knew the real man behind the flying arms and legs?
Now, HISTORY tells you the whole story, from his birth in San Francisco to his mysterious death some say the result of a curse at age 32, just three weeks before the opening of his only U.S. film, Enter the Dragon. Along the way, Lee introduced ancient martial arts to the modern world, securing a permanent place in our popular culture. With seldom-seen interviews and rare home movies, hear from those he influenced from Jackie Chan to John Woo, Brett Ratner, LL Cool J, and Stan Lee as we explore HOW BRUCE LEE CHANGED THE WORLD…
Bruce Lee - Jeet Kune Do Training
JKD has long since been known as the style of no style, but this term has been overused and to a great extent exaggerated to “allow” others to teach JKD without using actual Jeet Kune Do techniques under the guise of defining the art as anything you want to make it. The art, which was formed by Lee in various stages, was finally named in the late 60’s. While continuing to deny that JKD was a “style” he began to show his system to the public with great skepticism from the martial arts community and various Chinese individual who found his teachings to be discourteous to tradition. While it is nothing in the martial arts for a founder of a martial art style to be young (most founders / grandmasters of famous Chinese and Japanese systems were in their 20’s) Lee’s instruction of non-Chinese had the elders in an uproar.
Ninja vs Bruce Lee 1982 REAL PROPER
Bruce Lee takes a desperate journey leading to a fortune in gold bullion. On the way, he comes face to face with the evil Vice Lord and the brutal gang members of the dreaded Black Dragon Society. The fists move fast and furious as Bruce challenges these deadly kung fu masters and proves that he is a super hero.
He was a pioneer in many different aspects in the martial arts. One of his famous quotes was Jeet Kune Do is only a name so don’t fuss over it, but if he gave so little importance to the name why would he want it on his grave marker. This act would certainly lead one to believe that this name was important, and that it had significant meaning to him and the style known as Jeet Kune D
The Big Boss
Chein is a city boy who moves with his cousins to work at a ice factory. He does this with a family promise never to get involved in any fight. However, when members of his family begin disappearing after meeting the management of the factor, the resulting mystery and pressures forces him to break that vow and take on the villainy of the Big Boss.
Fist of Fury
Chen Chen returns to the international compound of China only to learn of his beloved teacher’s death. This is compounded by the continual racist harassment by the Japanese population in the area. Unlike his friends, he confronts it head on with his mastery of martial arts while investigating his teacher’s murder.
Way of the Dragon
Tang Lung arrives in Rome to help his cousins in the restaurant business. They are being pressured to sell their property to the syndicate, who will stop at nothing to get what they want. When Tang arrives he poses a new threat to the syndicate, and they are unable to defeat him. The syndicate boss hires the best Japanese and European martial artists to fight Tang, but he easily finishes them off. The American martial artist Colt is hired and has a showdown with Tang in Rome’s famous Colosseum.
Enter the Dragon
Enter the Dragon revolves around the three main characters. Lee, a man recruited by an agency to investigate a tournament hosted by Han, since they believe he has an Opium trade there. Roper and Williams are former army buddies since Vietnam and they enter the tournament due to different problems that they have. Roper is on the run from the Mafia due to his gambling debts, while Williams is harassed by racist police officers and defends himself from them and uses the car for his getaway. It is a deadly tournament that they will enter on an island. Lee’s job is to get the other two out of there alive.
Game of Death (Uncut Version)
Bruce Lee plays Billy Lo, a HongKong based movie actor, who is a box office draw. His girlfriend, Ann Morris is a singer who is also climbing to the top. Now it seems the syndicate wants Billy and Ann to join their “management firm”. But Billy knows that they will be treated like property, so he refuses and tells her to do the same. So they try to “encourage” him to join but he still refuses. He would be advised that they will not stop, so he must stop them, permanently. He is even more hesitant to do that but when an attempt on his life is made, he fakes his death and alters his appearance, and decides to go after the syndicate; taking them out one at a time.

Three of CouchDB’s creators show you how to use this document-oriented database as a standalone application framework or with high-volume, distributed applications. With its simple model for storing, processing, and accessing data, CouchDB is ideal for web applications that handle huge amounts of loosely structured data. That alone would stretch the limits of a relational database, yet CouchDB offers an open source solution that’s reliable, scales easily, and responds quickly.
CouchDB works with self-contained data that has loose or ad-hoc connections. It’s a model that fits many real-world items, such as contacts, invoices, and receipts, but you’ll discover that this database can easily handle data of any kind. With this book, you’ll learn how to work with CouchDB through its RESTful web interface, and become familiar with key features such as simple document CRUD (create, read, update, delete), advanced MapReduce, deployment tuning, and more.

This book starts with setting up a qmail server and takes you through virtualization, filtering, and other advanced features like hosting multiple domains, mailing lists, and SSL Encryption. Finally, it discusses the log files and how to make qmail work faster.
Qmail is a secure, reliable, efficient, simple message transfer agent. It is designed for typical Internet-connected UNIX hosts. Qmail is the second most common SMTP server on the Internet, and has by far the fastest growth of any SMTP server. Qmail’s straight-paper-path philosophy guarantees that a message, once accepted into the system, will never be lost. Qmail also optionally supports maildir, a new, super-reliable user mailbox format.
- Installing, configuring, and compiling qmail
- Getting emails in and out of the queue, along with storing, retrieving, and authenticating them
- Virtualisation of domains and user management, filtering spam, and other advanced features like SSL encryption and mailing lists

The concept of service oriented architecture has long promised visions of agile organizations being able to swap out interfaces and applications as business needs change. SOA also promises incredible developer and IT productivity, with the idea that key services would be candidates for cross-enterprise sharing or reuse. But many organizations’ efforts to move to SOA have been mired–by organizational issues, by conflicting vendor messages, and by architectures that may amount to little more than Just a Bunch of Web Services. There’s been a lot of confusion in the SOA marketplace about exactly what SOA is, what it’s supposed to accomplish, and how an enterprise goes about in making it work.
SOA Design Patterns is a definitive work that offers clarity on the purpose and functioning of service oriented architecture. SOA Design Patterns not only helps the IT practitioner lay the groundwork for a well-functioning SOA effort across the enterprise, but also connects the dots between SOA and the business requirements in a very concrete way. Plus, this book is completely technology agnostic—SOA Design Patterns rightly focuses on infrastructure and architecture, and it doesn’t matter whether you’re using components of one kind or another, or Java, or .NET, or Web services, or REST-style interfaces.

Using new mashup tools and technologies, enterprise developers can impose their own APIs on everything from Web sites and RSS feeds to Excel and PDF files–transforming a world of content into their own customized informationsource. In Mashup Patterns, Michael Ogrinz applies the concept of software development patterns to mashups, systematically revealing the right ways to build enterprise mashups and providing useful insights to help organizations avoid the mistakes that cause mashups to fail.
Drawing on extensive experience building business-critical mashups, Ogrinz offers patterns and realistic guidance for every stage of the mashup development lifecycle and addresses the key issues developers, architects, and managers will face. Each pattern is documented with a practical description, specific use cases, and crucial insights into the stability of mashups built with it. Ogrinz concludes by presenting twelve start-to-finish case studies demonstrating mashup patterns at work in actual enterprise settings.
-
Understanding the relationships among mashups, portals, SOA, EAI/EII, and SaaS
-
Exploring core mashup activities such as data management, surveillance, clipping, transformation, enrichment, publication, and promotion
-
Optimizing security, privacy, accessibility, usability, and performance
-
Managing mashup development, from planning and governance through integration, testing, and deployment
-
Enhancing basic mashups with search, language translation, workflow support, and other improvements
- Performing effective load and regression testing
- Avoiding “anti-patterns” that cause enterprise mashups to fail

It’s the trap that ensnares virtually every business. We focus on process: “how” we’re doing the job. And we forget about the bigger issue: “what” we’re doing and “why” we’re doing it. That’s why we’re leaving so much value on the table. In Rethink, business architect Ric Merrifield exposes this problem with vivid examples and introduces breakthrough techniques for overcoming it. Merrifield shows how to rise above the clutter of your “hows” to expose what does and doesn’t need attention in your organization. You’ll learn to identify the activities most critical to success, as well as those that are borderline, redundant, or even counterproductive. Merrifield helps you get past the parochial, subjective viewpoints of ground-level participants…find more cost-effective ways to achieve core goals…capture better information for prioritizing investments…identify hidden sources of value…use technology-driven plug-and-play management to increase efficiency and agility…and reconfigure your company to ride nonstop waves of change. Along the way, Merrifield presents powerful case studies ranging from ING DIRECT to Amazon.com to Procter & Gamble. These diverse companies have learned how to cut costs, strengthen innovation, and profit from change all at the same time. Using the lessons in this book, you can, too.
- Rise above low-level processes and narrow perspectives.
- Step back, identify what really matters to the organization, and act accordingly.
- Understand the hidden connections that can make or break your business.
- Make profitable changes without setting off destructive chain reactions.
- Expose activities where people, process, and technology matter…and, equally important, where they don’t.

Units in this course
* Getting Started with SharePoint 2010 Getting Started with SharePoint 2010 Welcome to the SharePoint 2010 learning center. SharePoint 2010 includes numerous new capabilities and features for professional developers. In this welcome video you will hear from some of the team members behind the training kit to understand what the kit is all about and what are plans are for the future of the SharePoint learning center on Channel 9.
* SharePoint 2010 Developer Roadmap SharePoint 2010 Developer Roadmap SharePoint 2010 includes numerous new capabilities and features for professional developers most of which are highlighted in this unit. SharePoint 2010 makes developing those solutions easier, quicker, and more flexible. Much of the work that the developer had to do in the past with earlier versions of SharePoint has been replaced with simple configuration of the SharePoint 2010 platform, use of Visual Studio 2010 and SharePoint Designer 2010 or with calls to the SharePoint API.
* Visual Studio 2010 Tools for SharePoint 2010 Visual Studio 2010 Tools for SharePoint 2010 This unit will provide you with an overview of SharePoint development with Visual Studio 2010. Specific topics covered will include an overview of the project and item templates, a walkthrough of the designers included, and areas of extensibility within Visual Studio 2010 that can enhance SharePoint development. Visual Studio 2010 includes support out of the box for the most common types of projects that you may want to build with SharePoint 2010 as well as new features for more easily defining features, solutions, and wizards to walk through the most common settings for each project type.
* UI Enhancements UI Enhancements The look and feel of SharePoint has radically changed from earlier versions of the product. In addition to being more accessible to the user it allows for improved extension points and fewer workarounds. The new user interface components that you can extend and build applications which include the fluent UI ribbon and an extensible dialog system.
* Lists and Schemas Lists and Schemas In a typical system data is somewhat normalized – not all of the system’s data exists in one large table or list. Instead data exists in sets of tables or lists which have one entry for each entity across multiple tables.
* LINQ to SharePoint LINQ to SharePoint LINQ is a new data access paradigm which allows users to express SQL like syntax against a variety of data sources. LINQ can improve performance by allowing the back end data source to decide the best way to solve the query. SharePoint now fully supports LINQ for querying lists so that you can query information from the platform in a more condensed, easier to understand format.
* Client Object Model Client Object Model In SharePoint 2010 there are a number of object models that can be used by developers to access the server. The Client Object Model (Client OM) is a unified model which uses the same or similar programming concepts as the Server Object Model (Server OM). The Client OM can be accessed via web services, via a client (JavaScript) API, and via REST.
* Workflow Workflow In SharePoint 2010 you can associate workflows with a site so you need not associate a workflow instance with a specific item in a list. Site-level workflows are a powerful mechanism to create generic functionality using the power of Windows Workflow Foundation (WF).
* Services Architecture Services Architecture In this session we will discuss the new Service Architecture model for SharePoint 2010. In SharePoint 2010 the Service platform has been re-written with a new more scalable and flexable architecture.
* Accessing External Data Accessing External Data In SharePoint 2010 Business Connectivity Services (BCS) enables integration with back end systems. Business Connectivity Services includes a set of presentation features, a connectivity framework and tooling within SPD and Visual Studio that enable developers and ITPros to connect to external data and services and to surface this data in SharePoint 2010 and Office 2010.This session will provide an overview of the BCS capabilities and usage in SharePoint 2010.
* Enterprise Content Management Enterprise Content Management From a free form Wiki to a highly controled intranet or internet site, learn about all of the new Web Content Management features in SharePoint 2010. This session will cover enhancements to the core authoring UI, publishing infrastructure, the content query webpart, and content deployment.
* Extending Search Extending Search This session will provide an overview of the enterprise search product line in SharePoint 2010. We’ve brought together the best of SharePoint Search and FAST ESP, resulting in the most complete enterprise search product line in the industry. In this session we’ll talk about our overall strategy for enterprise search and delineate each of the key search products in SharePoint 2010.
* PerformancePoint Services PerformancePoint Services There has been considerable investment in the Business Intelligence capabilities of SharePoint 2010. From new product capabilities like balanced scorecards, interactive dashboards, and line of business integration to improvements in Excel rendered content with Excel Services, improved and new capabilities for Self-Service information access, and creation of BI assets. In this session, we will cover the major components and identify the new capabilities.
* Sandboxed Solutions Sandboxed Solutions SharePoint 2010 adds a new deployment model for SharePoint called Sandboxed Solutions. It is a controlled solution packaging format that offers SharePoint Server Farm owners a way to easily mitigate risk that custom code will cause issues for them. It does this by restricting the API’s that can be called and governing resources that can be used. Because of this Sandboxed Solutions provide a solution package that can be easily deployed to a shared server environment. This talk will describe what Sandboxed Solutions are, it will demonstrate how to create them with Visual Studio 2010 and how to deploy and monitor them on SharePoint farms.
* Sharepoint 2010 Security Sharepoint 2010 Security SharePoint Server 2010 incorporates a new, more powerful and flexible authentication model that works with any corporate identity system, including Active Directory® directory services, LDAP-based directories, application-specific databases, and new user-centric identity models such as LiveID. This model uses claims-based authentication and a new product, code-named “Geneva.” Claims-based authentication is built around the concept of an identity and is based on standards — WS-Federation, WS-Trust — and protocols like the Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML).

From the bestselling coauthor of the business classic The Wisdom of Teams comes an all-new exploration of the modern workplace, and how leaders and managers must embrace it for success. Katzenbach and Khan examine how two distinct factions together form the bigger picture for how organizations actually work: the more defined “formal” organization of a company-the management structure, performance metrics, and processes-and the “informal”-the culture, social networks, and ad hoc communities that spring up naturally and can accelerate or hinder how the organization works. With dynamic examples from enterprises around the world, this book takes a timeless organizational approach and creates a powerful paradigm-shifting tool set for applying it.
- Includes self-assessment guidelines for senior leaders, front-line managers, and individual contributors
- Features organizations in business, government, the nonprofit sector, and academia-including the New York City schools system, Aetna, the Marines, United Nations, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Home Depot, Bell Canada, and the Houston Police Department
Leading Outside the Lines illustrates how leaders can make the two distinct factions work together to get the best of both.

Who?s the real branding expert: the agency or the brand? Each has a different approach to what brand building’s really all about and the methods needed to generate consumer loyalty. Each approaches brand building strategies from a different angle – a different perspective – and without understanding both points of view, the picture is never fully complete. Perspectives on Branding is the first book to offer both sides of the story. In an easy-to-read, question/answer format, Jason Miletsky provides the agency perspective while Genevieve Smith gives the brand point of view on topics including what a brand actually is (not many people really get it, operationalizing the brand and making it tangible, successfully marketing the brand, the best ways to measure results, which brands do it right, and which brands do it wrong and a whole lot more. What makes this book different from other branding books is that there is no author collaboration or sharing of information during the writing process. Neither author was aware of what the other was writing. The result is a fascinating, no-holds-barred look at branding as both the client and brand see it, leaving readers with a list of action items and a better understanding of core brand building concepts to dramatically improve their strategies.

High Availability is something that all web sites hope to achieve, especially those that are linked to big companies.
MySQL, an open source relational database management system (RDBMS), can be made highly available to protect from corruption, hardware failure, software crashes, and user error. Running a MySQL setup is quite simple. Things start getting complex when you start thinking about the best way to provide redundancy. There are a large number of techniques available to add ‘redundancy’ and ‘high availability’ to MySQL, but most are both poorly understood and documented.
This book will provide you with recipes showing how to design, implement, and manage a MySQL Cluster and achieve high availability using MySQL replication, block level replication, shared storage, and the open source Global File System (GFS).
This book covers all the major techniques available for increasing availability of your MySQL databases. It demonstrates how to design, implement, troubleshoot and manage a highly available MySQL setup using any one of several techniques, which are shown in different recipes. It is based on MySQL Cluster 7.0, MySQL (for non clustered recipes) 5.0.77, and CentOS / RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.3.
A cookbook containing recipes for all the common high availability techniques for database administrators to tackle real-world challenges to achieve high availability using MySQL

Principles of Broadband Switching and Networking explains the design and analysis of switch architectures suitable for broadband integrated services networks, emphasizing packet-switched interconnection networks with distributed routing algorithms. The text examines the mathematical properties of these networks, rather than specific implementation technologies. Although the pedagogical explanations in this book are in the context of switches, many of the fundamental principles are relevant to other communication networks with regular topologies.
After explaining the concept of the modern broadband integrated services network and why it is necessary in today’s society, the book moves on to basic switch design principles, discussing two types of circuit switch design—space domain and time domain—and packet switch design. Throughput improvements are illustrated by some switch design variations such as Speedup principle, Channel-Grouping principle, Knockout principle, and Dilation principle.
Moving seamlessly into advanced switch design principles, the book covers switch scalability, switch design for multicasting, and path switching. Then the focus moves to broadband communications networks that make use of such switches. Readers receive a detailed introduction on how to allocate network resources and control traffic to satisfy the quality of service requirements of network users and to maximize network usage. As an epilogue, the text shows how transmission noise and packet contention have similar characteristics and can be tamed by comparable means to achieve reliable communication.

First Look: Microsoft Office 2010
202 pages | Microsoft Press (December 09, 2009) | ISBN: N/A | PDF | 10.5 MB
First Look: Microsoft Office 2010 covers changes in Office 2010 and shows you how you can make the most of the new features to fit the way you work today. If you have downloaded the Office 2010, here is the book from Microsoft that covers Office 2010 in detail.
First Look: Microsoft Office 2010, by Katherine Murray, offers 14 chapters of early content, organized like so:
Part I, “Envision the Possibilities,” introduces you to the changes in Office 2010 and shows you how you can make the most of the new features to fit the way you work today. Chapter 1, “Welcome to Office 2010,” gives you a play-by-play introduction to new features; Chapter 2, “Express Yourself Effectively and Efficiently,” details the great feature enhancements and visual effects throughout the applications; and Chapter 3, “Work Anywhere with Office 2010,” explores the flexibility factor by presenting a set of scenarios that enable users to complete their work no matter where their path takes them.
Part II, “Hit the Ground Running,” focuses on each of the Office 2010 applications in turn, spotlighting the key new features and showing how they relate to the whole. These chapters provide a how-to guide for many of the top features you’re likely to use right off the bat, and they offer inspiring ideas on how to get the most from your favorite applications.
Part III, “Next Steps with Office 2010,” zooms up to the big picture and provides examples to help you think through interoperability. How often do you use the various Office applications together? Customer research shows that people often don’t realize how well the applications work together as a complete system—which means they might be laboring over items they could easily incorporate from somewhere else. This part of the book provides examples for integrating the applications and explores Office 2010 security and training opportunities, as well.

Jeff Potts “Alfresco Developer Guide”
PP | English | October 2008 | ISBN: 1847193110 | 556 pages | PDF | 10,5 MB
Alfresco is an open source platform for Enterprise Content Management solutions. ECM includes things like Document Management, Web Content Management, Collaboration/Enterprise 2.0, Digital Asset Management, Records Management, and Imaging. At its core is a repository for rich content like documents, web assets, XML, and multimedia. The repository is surrounded by a services layer (supporting both SOAP and REST) that makes getting content into and out of the repository a breeze, which is why so many next generation Internet solutions are built on Alfresco.
Implementing Alfresco usually involves extending the repository to accommodate your business-specific metadata and business logic. These extensions are done using some combination of Java, JavaScript, XML, and FreeMarker.
This book takes you through a set of exercises as if you were rolling out and customizing the platform for a fictional organization called SomeCo, which wants to roll out Alfresco enterprise-wide. Each department has a set of requirements that need addressed. We will show you how to extend Alfresco to meet these requirements. By the time you’ve worked through the entire book, you will be familiar with the entire platform. You’ll be prepared to make your own customizations whether they are part of a Document Management solution, a web site that uses Alfresco for content storage, or an entire custom application built on Alfresco’s REST API. This book will give you the knowledge and confidence you need to make Alfresco do what you need it to do.
Appoach
This book focuses on teaching by example. Every chapter provides a bit of an overview, and then dives right in to hands-on examples so you can see and play with the solution in your own environment. All code samples run on both the latest Enterprise and Labs release.
Audience
This book will be most useful to developers who are writing code to customize Alfresco for their organization or who are creating custom applications that sit on top of Alfresco.
This book is for Java developers, and you will get most from the book if you already work with Java but you need not have prior experience on Alfresco. Although Alfresco makes heavy use of open source frameworks such as Spring, Hibernate, JavaServer Faces, and Lucene, no prior experience using these is assumed.

Overview
If you’re considering the vastly improved 2007 version of SharePoint, this concise, practical and friendly guide will teach you how to get the most from the latest version of Microsoft’s information-sharing and collaboration platform. Essential SharePoint 2007 demonstrates how your business can use SharePoint to control documents, structure workflow, and share information over the Web using standard tools business users already know — Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer. Written in a conversational tone by internationally recognized SharePoint consultant and trainer Jeff Webb, this book helps SharePoint administrators, site owners, and power users quickly gain the skills necessary to perform a wide variety of tasks for intranet and extranet web sites, and explains what’s new in SharePoint 2007 for experienced SharePoint 2003 administrators. Essential SharePoint 2007 teaches you how to:
· Use SharePoint 2007 with Outlook, Word and Excel, and as a document management tool, replacing, for example, shared network drives with libraries
· Build and customize sites, lists, libraries and web parts for intranets and extranets
· Use SharePoint 2007 for team communication through blogs, wikis, surveys, and RSS and email alerts
· Build a SharePoint workflow application
· Create and program web parts in order to deliver custom services and data to a site
· Deploy and administer SharePoint 2007
Each chapter ends with a summary of best practices advocated by the author, and the first few chapters of the book are ideal as training materials for end users. Later chapters give developers and administrators tools not only to keep company sites running smoothly, but also to customize and extend them. The book also contains several appendices with a glossary of terms and hard-to-find information. Essential SharePoint 2007 is a one-stop task-oriented guide for learning what’s necessary to make this tool a vital part of team productivity.

System administrators need to stay ahead of new security vulnerabilities that leave their networks exposed every day. A firewall and an intrusion detection systems (IDS) are two important weapons in that fight, enabling you to proactively deny access and monitor network traffic for signs of an attack.
Linux Firewalls discusses the technical details of the iptables firewall and the Netfilter framework that are built into the Linux kernel, and it explains how they provide strong filtering, Network Address Translation (NAT), state tracking, and application layer inspection capabilities that rival many commercial tools. You’ll learn how to deploy iptables as an IDS with psad and fwsnort and how to build a strong, passive authentication layer around iptables with fwknop.
Concrete examples illustrate concepts such as firewall log analysis and policies, passive network authentication and authorization, exploit packet traces, Snort ruleset emulation, and more with coverage of these topics:
* Passive network authentication and OS fingerprinting.
* iptables log analysis and policies.
* Application layer attack detection with the iptables string match extension.
* Building an iptables ruleset that emulates a Snort ruleset.
* Port knocking vs. Single Packet Authorization (SPA).

GNU/Linux is an immensely popular operating system that is both extremely stable and reliable. But it can also induce minor headaches at the most inopportune times, if you’re not fully up to speed with its capabilities.
A unique approach to running and administering Linux systems, Linux Annoyances for Geeks addresses the many poorly documented and under-appreciated topics that make the difference between a system you struggle with and a system you really enjoy. This book is for power users and system administrators who want to clear away barriers to using Linux for themselves and for less-trained users in their organizations.
This book meticulously tells you how to get a stubborn wireless card to work under Linux, and reveals little-known sources for wireless driversand information. It tells you how to add extra security to your systems, such as boot passwords, and how to use tools such as rescue disks to overcome overly zealous security measures in a pinch. In every area of desktop and server use, the book is chock full of advice based on hard-earned experience.
Author Michael Jang has spent many hours trying out software in a wide range of environments and carefully documenting solutions for the most popular Linux distributions. (The book focuses on Red Hat/Fedora, SUSE, and Debian.) Many of the topics presented here are previously undocumented or are discussed only in obscure email archives.
One of the valuable features of this book for system administrators and Linux proponents in general is the organization of step-by-step procedures that they can customize for naive end-users at their sites. Jang has taken into account not only the needs of a sophisticated readership, but the needs of other people those readers may serve.
Sometimes, a small thing for a user (such as being able to play a CD) or for an administrator (such as updating an organizations’ systems from a central server) can make or break the adoption of Linux. This book helps you overcome the most common annoyances in deploying Linux, and trains you in the techniques that will help you overcome other problems you find along the way.
In keeping with the spirit of the Annoyances series, the book adopts a sympathetic tone that will quickly win you over. Rather than blaming you for possessing limited Linux savvy, Linux Annoyances for Geeks takes you along for a fun-filled ride as you master the system together.

This book is a guide to FreeBSD for network administrators; therefore it does not cover basic installation and configuration of FreeBSD, but is about using FreeBSD to build, secure, and maintain networks.
After introducing the basic tools for monitoring the performance and security of the system the book moves on to cover using jails—FreeBSD virtual environments—to virtually run multiple instances of FreeBSD on the same hardware. Then it shows how to overcome the different bottlenecks that you may meet depending on the services you are running by tweaking different parameters to maintain a high performance from your FreeBSD server. Next it covers using the ifconfig utility to configure interfaces with different layer protocols and about connectivity testing and debugging tools. After covering using User PPP or Kernel PPP for Point-to-Point Protocol network configuration it explains basic IP forwarding in FreeBSD and the use of the built-in routing daemons, routed and route6d, which support RIPv1, RIPv2, RIPng, and RDISC. Next it covers the OpenOSPFD and OpenBGPD daemons that you can install to run OSPF and BGP on your host. Then it covers setup and configuration of IPFW and PF, and finally looks at some important internet services and how to set them up on your FreeBSD server.

Ajax is no longer an experimental approach to website development, but the key to building browser-based applications that form the cornerstone of Web 2.0. Head First Ajax gives you an up-to-date perspective that lets you see exactly what you can do — and has been done — with Ajax. With it, you get a highly practical, in-depth, and mature view of what is now a mature development approach.
Using the unique and highly effective visual format that has turned Head First titles into runaway bestsellers, this book offers a big picture overview to introduce Ajax, and then explores the use of individual Ajax components — including the JavaScript event model, DOM, XML, JSON, and more — as it progresses. You’ll find plenty of sample applications that illustrate the concepts, along with exercises, quizzes, and other interactive features to help you retain what you’ve learned.

Ruby is a fully object-oriented language, much like the classic object-oriented language, Smalltalk. Like Smalltalk, it is dynamically typed (as opposed to Java or C++), but unlike Smalltalk, Ruby features the same conveniences found in modern scripting languages, making Ruby a favorite tool of intelligent, forward-thinking programmers and the basis for the Rails web framework.
This is the reference manual for Ruby, including a description of all the standard library modules, a complete reference to all built-in classes and modules (including all the new and changed methods introduced by Ruby 1.9). It also includes all the new and changed syntax and semantics introduced since Ruby 1.8. Learn about the new parameter passing rules, local variable scoping in blocks, fibers, multinationalization, and the new block declaration syntax, among other exciting new features.

Struts 2.1 is a modern, extensible, agile web application framework suitable for both small- and large-scale web applications.
The book begins with a comprehensive look at Struts 2.1 basics, interspersed with detours into more advanced development topics. You’ll learn about configuring Struts 2.1 actions, results, and interceptors via both XML and Java annotations. You’ll get an introduction to most of the Struts 2.1 custom tags and learn how they can assist in rapid application prototyping and development.
From there you’ll make your way into Struts 2.1’s strong support for form validation and type conversion, which allows you to treat your form values as domain objects without cluttering your code. A look at Struts 2.1’s interceptors is the final piece of the Struts 2.1 puzzle, allowing you to leverage the standard Struts 2 interceptors as well as implement your own custom behavior.
After covering Struts 2.1 you’ll journey into the world of JavaScript, a surprisingly capable language, the Document Object Model (DOM), and CSS, and learn how to create clean and concise client-side behavior. You’ll leverage that knowledge as you move on to Struts 2 themes and templates, which give you a powerful way to encapsulate site-wide user interface behavior.

When a CEO-or in this case a CE-Yo-writes a book about the philosophical and environmental underpinnings of the company he founded, it is natural to expect an ego-driven text. But Hirshberg, founder of Stonyfield Farm, the organic yogurt maker, dilutes the ego with eco. After all, this is a book that presents management lessons gleaned from life on a farm: in one such lesson, a herd of hungry pigs attacks a mound of damaged plastic yogurt cups, devours the contents and teaches Hirschberg nature’s idea of recycling. While there is some cultured finger-pointing at big-name competitors and other corporations for organic abstinence and environmental insensitivity, Hirshberg focuses on how Stonyfield succeeds in pursuing sustainability and profitability-not to mention valuable shelf space alongside giants like Kraft and Yoplait. But in addition to describing how his company addresses such tasks as negating its own carbon footprint or establishing a handshake with the consumer in lieu of advertising, Hirshberg shares stories of similar successes at other companies, including Whole Foods, Timberland and, more recently, at Zipcar. Hirshberg has produced a manual of use for managers at any size company with an earnest interest in learning how to save the world while enriching employees and shareholders.

On the run from the assassins who murdered his family, Ty Butler found a new way to survive: with a few good hands, a loaded gun, and a little luck. But lying low and keeping out of his hunters’ gunsights is getting harder to do since he started earning a serious rep at the poker table-and especially now that he’s made some new friends . . . named Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, and Doc Holliday.
In Denver, Butler finds Holliday in the clutches of corrupt lawmen. Doc’s wanted for murder back in Tombstone, and he’d rather go out in a blazing gunfight than face an Arizona hanging judge. All Butler has to do is keep Doc breathing until Earp and Masterson arrive to spring him-and that won’t be easy. The Gambler’s been dealt into a dangerous game with too many killers anteing up. And this time Ty Butler just might be drawing dead.

Completely revised and improved, the second edition of Programming Python is an excellent compendium of material geared toward the more knowledgeable Python developer. It includes dozens of reusable scripts for common scripting tasks, and is one of the best available sources of information for this popular object-oriented scripting language.
In over 1,200 pages of material, this book offers an extremely comprehensive guide to Python development. Though his book is densely packed with information, Mark Lutz is a lively and witty writer whose focus is on getting things done using the natural strengths of the Python language. To that end, after an introduction and history of the language, the book shows how to use Python for performing automated tasks with files and directories (for example, for doing backups both locally and on Web servers). Not only will this book teach you more about Python, but it will also give you a library of code that you can use as is or adapt for your own projects.
The text covers every conceivable facet of Python and the language’s support for networking, files and directories, task management, and even persistence (through its support for shelves). Complete Python programs show how to create e-mail clients, do reporting, and create Web applications (for an online errata database). Chapters on doing graphics programming in Python, as well as coverage of both built-in and custom data structures, are especially good. Because Python is often used for automating installations (in some Linux distributions, for instance), readers will appreciate the sample code and tips for using Python to create bulletproof installs.

The authors of Learning Python show you enough essentials of the Python scripting language to enable you to begin solving problems right away, then reveal more powerful aspects of the language one at a time. This approach is sure to appeal to programmers and system administrators who have urgent problems and a preference for learning by semi-guided experimentation.
First off, Learning Python shows the relationships among Python scripts and their interpreter (in a mostly platform-neutral way). Then, the authors address the mechanics of the language itself, providing illustrations of how Python conceives of numbers, strings, and other objects as well as the operators you use to work with them. Dictionaries, lists, tuples, and other data structures specific to Python receive plenty of attention including complete examples.
Authors Mark Lutz and David Ascher build on that fundamental information in their discussions of functions and modules, which evolve into coverage of namespaces, classes, and the object-oriented aspects of Python programming. There’s also information on creating graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for Python applications with Tkinter.
In addition to its careful expository prose, Learning Python includes exercises that both test your Python skills and help reveal more elusive truths about the language

With the introduction of increasingly complex Web services over the last decade, there has been an explosion of interest in service-oriented architecture (SOA), a structural style whose goal is to achieve a coupling of interacting services - functionalities such as filling out an online application for an account, viewing an online bank statement, or placing an online booking or airline ticket order. These services operate through specific interfaces that control and define their operation. However, due to the evolving nature of enterprises, new services and applications must often be incorporated into these same interfaces. Such incorporation can be costly and complex if the original interface is inflexible or incompatible with the technology utilized by the new applications.
In his new book, data architecture guru James Bean teaches you exactly how to design web service interfaces that are capable of being extended to accommodate ever changing business needs and promote incorporation simplicity. The book first provides an overview of critical SOA principles, thereby offering a basic conceptual summary. The book then provides explicit, tactical, and real-world techniques for ensuring compliance with these principles. Using a focused, tutorial-based approach the book provides working syntactical examples - described by Web services standards such as XML, XML Schemas, WSDL and SOAP - that can be used to directly implement interface design procedures, thus allowing you immediately generate value from your efforts. In summary, SOA and Web Services Interface Design provides the basic theory, but also design techniques and very specific implementable encoded interface examples that can be immediately employed in your work, making it an invaluable practical guide to any practitioner in today’s exploding Web-based service market.

Hackers specifically target PHP Web applications. Why? Because they know many of these apps are written by programmers with little or no experience or training in software security. Don’t be victimized. Securing PHP Web Applications will help you master the specific techniques, skills, and best practices you need to write rock-solid PHP code and harden the PHP software you’re already using.
Drawing on more than fifteen years of experience in Web development, security, and training, Tricia and William Ballad show how security flaws can find their way into PHP code, and they identify the most common security mistakes made by PHP developers. The authors present practical, specific solutions–techniques that are surprisingly easy to understand and use, no matter what level of PHP programming expertise you have.
Securing PHP Web Applications covers the most important aspects of PHP code security, from error handling and buffer overflows to input validation and filesystem access. The authors explode the myths that discourage PHP programmers from attempting to secure their code and teach you how to instinctively write more secure code without compromising your software’s performance or your own productivity.

The author of this book manages to do exactly what he promises, which is to detail the use of a vast number of tools, to generate digital video in countless formats, on innumerable types of media. The possible permutations when all tools, formats, and media are taken together is simply mind-numbing, which is why such a book is necessary in the first place. Any dedicated amateur (or even professional) compressionist needs to know whether there is a better way to do what he or she stumbled across by accident on the vast Internet. This book very clearly describes many of the best combination of tools and strategies to produce the best content possible. The writing style is very fluid and friendly, although I would stop short of calling the book an easy read, because the amount of information is too overwhelming for a straight read; instead, I would use it almost like a reference and jump to a particular chapter to refresh my memory and skills just before undertaking a new compression task.
With so much information to write about, I am sure the book was an organizational nightmare for the author, and although he did an overall great job in organizing it, there are still numerous spots where he could have done a better job of introducing a topic before using it to explain other topics. Examples that come to mind: referring to DirectShow without describing it, or creating examples based on video editing tools like Cleaner without first introducing the tool (there are others).

This book was written to introduce you to the features and capabilities that ASP.NET 3.5 offers, as well as to give you an explanation of the foundation that ASP.NET provides. We assume you have a general understanding of Web technologies, such as previous versions of ASP.NET, Active Server Pages 2.0/3.0, or JavaServer Pages. If you understand the basics of Web programming, you should not have much trouble following along with this book’s content.
If you are brand new to ASP.NET, be sure to check out Beginning ASP.NET 3.5: In C# and VB by Imar Spaanjaars (Wiley Publishing, Inc., 2008) to help you understand the basics.
In addition to working with Web technologies, we also assume that you understand basic programming constructs, such as variables, For Each loops, and object-oriented programming.
You may also be wondering whether this book is for the Visual Basic developer or the C# developer. We are happy to say that it is for both! When the code differs substantially, this book provides examples in both VB and C#.

Java Web Services gives the experienced Java developer a way into the Web Services world. It helps you to understand what’s going on, what the technologies mean and how they relate, and shows Java developers how to put them to use to solve real problems. You’ll learn what’s real and what isn’t; what the technologies are really supposed to do, and how they do it. Java Web Services shows you how to use SOAP to perform remote method calls and message passing; how to use WSDL to describe the interface to a web service or understand the interface of someone else’s service; and how to use UDDI to advertise (publish) and look up services in each local or global registry. Java Web Services also discusses security issues, interoperability issues, integration with other Java enterprise technologies like EJB; the work being done on the JAXM and JAX-RPC packages, and integration with Microsoft’s .NET services. The web services picture is still taking shape; there are many platforms and APIs to consider, and many conflicting claims from different marketing groups. And although web services are inherently language-independent, the fit between the fundamental principles on which Java and web services are based means that Java will almost certainly be the predominant language for web services development. If you’re a Java developer and want to climb on the web services bandwagon, or if you only want to “kick the tires” and find out what web services has to offer, you will find this book indispensable.

The editors bring together studies on many different topics, such as memory for plans and actions, for names and faces, for routes and maps, life experiences and flashbulb memory, and eyewitness memory. Emphasis is also given to the role of memory in consciousness and metacognition.
