Protein Condensation: Kinetic Pathways to Crystallization and DiseaseCambridge University Press | 2007-10-27 | ISBN:0521851211 | Pages:376 | PDF | 3.8 MB
Book Description:
The quest to understand the condensation of proteins from solutions is a rapidly evolving field. The purpose of this book is to bring to an interdisciplinary audience the state-of-the-art in current research. The first part of the book deals with issues related to the production of high quality protein crystals from solution. Since protein function is determined by structure, high quality protein crystals must be grown in order to determine their structure by X-ray crystallography. The book also discusses diseases that occur due to undesired protein condensation, an increasingly important subject. Examples include sickle cell anemia, cataracts and Alzheimers disease. Current experimental and theoretical work on these diseases is discussed, which seeks understanding at a fundamental, molecular level, to prevent the undesired condensation from occurring. The book, containing color plate sections, is suitable for graduate students and academic researchers in physics, chemistry, structural biology, protein crystallography and medicine.

C# Network ProgrammingSybex | ISBN:0782141765 | 656 pages | November 26, 2002 | CHM | 6 Mb
On its own, C# simplifies network programming. Combine it with the precise instruction found in C# Network Programming, and you'll find that building network applications is easier and quicker than ever.
This book helps newcomers get started with a look at the basics of network programming as they relate to C#, including the language's network classes, the Winsock interface, and DNS resolution. Spend as much time here as you need, then dig into the core topics of the network layer. You'll learn to make sockets connections via TCP and "connectionless" connections via UDP. You'll also discover just how much help C# gives you with some of your toughest chores, such as asynchronous socket programming, multithreading, and multicasting.
Network-layer techniques are just a means to an end, of course, and so this book keeps going, providing a series of detailed application-layer programming examples that show you how to work with real protocols and real network environments to build and implement a variety of applications. Use SNMP to manage network devices, SMTP to communicate with remote mail servers, and HTTP to Web-enable your applications. And use classes native to C# to query and modify Active Directory entries.
Rounding it all out is plenty of advanced coverage to push your C# network programming skills to the limit. For example, you'll learn two ways to share application methods across the network: using Web services and remoting. You'll also master the security features intrinsic to C# and .NET--features that stand to benefit all of your programming projects.

William Penn, "Electrical Estimator's Manual How to Estimate Electrical Construction Projects Including Everday Labor Installation Rates" Gulf Publishing Company; Pap/Com edition (July 31, 2005) | ISBN:0976511320 | 250 pages | PDF | 6,9 Mb
Book Description
With over 45 years of experience in contracting, managing and estimating electrical projects, the author has compiled literally thousands of installation labor rates used in everyday estimating procedures in theis easy-to-use manual. These labor rates complement the instructional portion of this manual that is written in simple, easy-to-digest construction language. Many professional estimator's guides are like door stops, filled with cumbersome and dreaded "refer to page number X" and "see note Y." They are not user-friendly or easily referenced. With its larger font sizes, larger format for easy viewing and its lay flat binding, so that it will stay open on an engineer's desktop or on the technician's sawhorse or truck hood, this manual is the optimal choice when deciding which reference material to use. Included with this book is a CD with all of the spreadsheets and forms that estimators need on a daily basis. Just download them onto your hard drive and print them out. Use them time and again for all your electrical estimating projects.

Terence Tao , Van H. Vu, " Additive Combinatorics" Cambridge University Press; 1 edition (September 25, 2006) | ISBN:0521853869 | 530 pages | PDF | 2,2 Mb
Additive combinatorics is the theory of counting additive structures in sets. This theory has seen exciting developments and dramatic changes in direction in recent years thanks to its connections with areas such as number theory, ergodic theory and graph theory. This graduate level textbook will allow students and researchers easy entry into this fascinating field. Here, for the first time, the authors bring together in a self-contained and systematic manner the many different tools and ideas that are used in the modern theory, presenting them in an accessible, coherent, and intuitively clear manner, and providing immediate applications to problems in additive combinatorics. The power of these tools is well demonstrated in the presentation of recent advances such as Szemerédi's theorem on arithmetic progressions, the Kakeya conjecture and Erdos distance problems, and the developing field of sum-product estimates. The text is supplemented by a large number of exercises and new results.

Crossroads between Innate and Adaptive ImmunityPublisher: Springer | Language: English | ISBN:0387348131 | 252 pages | Data: 2007 | PDF | 6 Mb
Description: This compilation presents minireviews derived from work presented at the Aegean Conference: "First Crossroads between Innate and Adaptive Immunity," which occurred October 914, 2005 at the Hilton Conference Center on the island of Rhodes, Greece. The conference included sessions dedicated to host recognition of and response to pathogens, innate immune networks, antigen presentation, and adaptive immune responses, each headlined by a leading scientist at the forefront of that field. The intimate networking and interaction of dendritic cells, T cells, B cells, NK cells, NK-T cells, and complement during the host response to pathogens and tumors are only now starting to be elucidated. The respective fields that focus on these immune cells and molecules tend to exist in parallel worlds, with minimum exchange of information and ideas. The goal of this conference was to initiate crosstalk between these immunological fields, and to promote and facilitate discussion on the interactions between the innate immune response and the adaptive immune response, and ultimately breed collaboration between these areas of study.

Clifford Algebras and SpinorsPublisher:Cambridge University Press | 2001-05-07 | ISBN:0521005515 | Pages: 348 | DJVU | 3.5MB
Book Description:
This second edition of a popular and unique introduction to Clifford algebras and spinors has three new chapters. The beginning chapters cover the basics: vectors, complex numbers and quaternions are introduced with an eye on Clifford algebras. The next chapters, which will also interest physicists, include treatments of the quantum mechanics of the electron, electromagnetism and special relativity. A new classification of spinors is introduced, based on bilinear covariants of physical observables. This reveals a new class of spinors, residing among the Weyl, Majorana and Dirac spinors. Scalar products of spinors are categorized by involutory anti-automorphisms of Clifford algebras. This leads to the chessboard of automorphism groups of scalar products of spinors. On the algebraic side, Brauer/Wall groups and Witt rings are discussed, and on the analytic, Cauchy's integral formula is generalized to higher dimensions.

Markus Heusler, " Black Hole Uniqueness Theorems" Cambridge University Press (July 26, 1996) | ISBN:0521567351 | 263 pages | Djvu | 2,3 Mb
Review
"...this volume is in fact well-written and provides a quite rigorous and advanced textbook for graduate students in mathematical physics as well as an important reference for researchers who are interested in the 'classical' theory of black holes and, in particular, in uniqueness theorems....it offers an up-to-date bibliography also taking account of several links with problems currently under investigation which are given throughout the book." Valter Moretti, Mathematical Reviews
Book Description
This timely review provides a self-contained introduction to the mathematical theory of stationary black holes and a self-consistent exposition of the corresponding uniqueness theorems. The opening chapters examine the general properties of space-times admitting Killing fields and derive the Kerr-Newman metric. Heusler emphasizes the general features of stationary black holes, the laws of black hole mechanics, and the geometrical concepts behind them. Tracing the steps toward the proof of the "no-hair" theorem, he illustrates the methods used by Israel, the divergence formulas derived by Carter, Robinson and others, and finally the sigma model identities and the positive mass theorem. The book also includes an extension of the electro-vacuum uniqueness theorem to self-gravitating scalar fields and harmonic mappings. A rigorous textbook for graduate students in physics and mathematics, this volume offers an invaluable, up-to-date reference for researchers in mathematical physics, general relativity and astrophysics.

Review
"It is a great work; great by its dimensions, written with extreme love and care, concentrating the knowledge of a generation which was supreme in the history of matrix theory. It is a very illuminating and highly readable exposition of interesting topics which are of great relevance both to theory and applications." Mathematical Reviews Clippings 98h
Book Description
This book provides an integrated treatment of the theory of nonnegative matrices and some related classes of positive matrices, concentrating on connections with game theory, combinatorics, inequalities, optimization and mathematical economics. The authors have chosen the wide variety of applications, which include price fixing, scheduling, and the fair division problem, both for their elegant mathematical content and for their accessibility to students with minimal preparation. They present many new results in matrix theory for the first time in book form, while they present more standard topics in a novel fashion. The treatment is rigorous and almost all results are proved completely. These new results and applications will be of great interest to researchers in linear programming, statistics, and operations research. The minimal prerequisites also make the book accessible to first year graduate students.
