Title:Hearing, Second Edition: Anatomy, Physiology, and Disorders of the Auditory System
Publisher:Academic Press | Pages:328 | 2006-08-28 | ISBN:0123725194 | PDF | 17.69 MB
Hearing: Anatomy, Physiology and Disorders of the Auditory System provides detailed information about the anatomy and physiology of the entire auditory system and it describes important aspects of disorders of the middle ear, the cochlea, and the nervous system in a comprehensive manner. Most other textbooks on Hearing are focused on either the periphery or the central nervous system and rarely integrate anatomy and physiology with clinical issues. In the past years, it has become apparent that pathologies of the peripheral parts of the auditory system affect the function of the nervous system, and vice versa. It is thus more and more important to view the peripheral and central parts of the auditory system in an integrative way. This book integrates descriptions of disorders of the ear and the nervous system and provides a comprehensive coverage of anatomy and physiology of the entire auditory system. The book introduces the role of neural plasticity in the symptoms of disorders such as tinnitus, hyperacusis and phonophobia. A separate chapter discusses cochlear and auditory brainstem implants.
· This book provides a thorough understanding of the anatomy and function of the auditory system
· Provides thorough information on the peripheral nervous system and auditory organs as well as the central nervous system
· As valuable for students of and reasearchers in basic sciences (biology, psychology, neuroscience, audiology etc) as for clinicians
· Offers an introduction into psychoacoustics and physical acoustics
· Presents information on important disorders of the auditory system (including Tinnitus,
· Includes chapter on cochlear and auditory brainstem implants

The historical disconnect between legacy Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN solutions has forced service providers to build, operate, and maintain separate infrastructures to accommodate various VPN access technologies. This costly proposition, however, is no longer necessary. As part of its new Unified VPN Suite, Cisco Systems® now offers next-generation Layer 2 VPN services like Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol version 3 (L2TPv3) and Any Transport over MPLS (AToM) that enable service providers to offer Frame Relay, ATM, Ethernet, and leased-line services over a common IP/MPLS core network. By unifying multiple network layers and providing an integrated set of software services and management tools over this infrastructure, the Cisco® Layer 2 VPN solution enables established carriers, IP-oriented ISP/CLECs, and large enterprise customers (LECs) to reach a broader set of potential VPN customers and offer truly global VPNs.

The Oxford Dictionary of New Words
Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA; 2 edition (April 1, 1999) | Language: English | ISBN: 0198602359 | 1.2 Mb | 368 pages | PDF
The image of the linguist as a stodgy old stick-in-the-mud, circling misplaced commas and mumbling in dead tongues, is just not true--at least not entirely. Any linguist worth her salt knows that languages change and keeps up with those changes. To make that task easier, the folks at Oxford University Press have put out a dictionary of more than 2,500 new words and phrases that have been popularized since the late 1980s. Editors Elizabeth Knowles and Julia Elliott provide definitions, usage notes, and etymologies for jelly shoes, road rage, and hot-desking, not to mention tree-hugger, feminazi, McJob, get a life, and not! The English language is alive and kicking, and Oxford has its finger on the semantic pulse.

N.W. Tschoegl, " Fundamentals of Equilibrium and Steady-State Thermodynamics "
Elsevier Science | ISBN: 0444504265 | February 1, 2000 | 278 pages | PDF | 8.95 MB
This book summarizes the salient features of both equilibrium and steady-state thermodynamic theory under a uniform postulatory viewpoint. The emphasis is upon the formal aspects and logical structure of thermodynamic theory, allowing it to emerge as a coherent whole, unfettered by much of those details which - albeit indispensable in practical applications - tend to obscure this coherent structure. Largely because of this, statistical mechanics and reference to molecular structure are, barring an occasional allusion, avoided. The treatment is, therefore, 'classical', or - using a perhaps more appropriate word - 'phenomenological'.
The volume almost exclusively deals with 'ideal' systems, given that the treatment of 'real' systems properly belongs in the realm of applied, rather than theoretical thermodynamics. For these reasons, only selected ideal systems are covered. Ideal gases are discussed extensively. The ideal solution is treated as an example of a liquid system. The amorphous ideal rubber serves as an example of a solid. The formalism developed in these sections is a model for the treatment of other, more complex systems. This short structural overview is written in the hope that a knowledge of steady-state theory will deepen readers' understanding of thermodynamics as a whole.

Nasser Kehtarnavaz, «Real-Time Digital Signal Processing: Based on the TMS320C6000»
Publisher: Newnes | July 2004 | ISBN: 0750678305 | Pages: 320 | PDF | 11 MB
Digital Signal Processing has undergone enormous growth in usage/implementation in the last 20 years and many engineering schools are now offering real-time DSP courses in their undergraduate curricula. Our everyday lives involve the use of DSP systems in things such as cell phones and high-speed modems; Texas Instruments has introduced the TMS320C6000 DSP processor family to meet the high performance demands of todays signal processing applications.
This book provides the know-how for the implementation and optimization of computationally intensive signal processing algorithms on the Texas Instruments family of TMS320C6000 DSP processors. It is organized in such a way that it can be used as the textbook for DSP lab courses offered at many engineering schools or as a self-study/reference for those familiar with DSP but not this family of processors.
This book provides a restructured, modified, and condensed version of the information in more than twenty TI manuals so that one can learn real-time DSP implementations on the C6000 family in a structured course, within one semester. Each chapter is followed by an appropriate lab exercise to provide the hands-on lab material for implementing appropriate signal processing
functions.

S. G. Krantz, " Partial Differential Equations and Complex Analysis "
(Studies in Advanced Mathematics)
CRC | ISBN: 0849371554 | July 2, 1997 | 307 pages | djvu | 2.4 MB
Ever since the groundbreaking work of J.J. Kohn in the early 1960s, there has been a significant interaction between the theory of partial differential equations and the function theory of several complex variables. Partial Differential Equations and Complex Analysis explores the background and plumbs the depths of this symbiosis. The book is an excellent introduction to a variety of topics and presents many of the basic elements of linear partial differential equations in the context of how they are applied to the study of complex analysis. The author treats the Dirichlet and Neumann problems for elliptic equations and the related Schauder regularity theory, and examines how those results apply to the boundary regularity of biholomorphic mappings. He studies the ?-Neumann problem, then considers applications to the complex function theory of several variables and to the Bergman projection.
