The purpose of the work is to seriously study cryptids as distribution anomalies, unknown variations of known species, survivors thought to be extinct, mythical animals, paranormal creatures with animal-like characteristics, and hoaxes. More than 1,085 unknown animals are covered in field-guide format, some with pictures or drawings. Most articles include an etymology of the name, scientific name if available, variant names, physical description, behavior, habitat, significant sightings, present status, and possible explanations, such as misidentification of a known species or survival of an extinct species. The articles end with lists of chronologically arranged sources, many of them primary materials, and include both print and Internet resources. There are also entries for 40 major cryptid categories such as birds and sea monsters; these entries have useful cross-references to entries on specific creatures. Following the A-Z entries are lists of 431 species discovered or rediscovered since 1900 (such as the thylacine, a canid marsupial of Australia believed to be extinct since 1936 but seen by reliable witnesses up to the present time) and freshwater bodies in which unknown animals have been reported. Fuzzy Logic: A Practical Approach


I enjoyed the approach here. The author uses simple, rather concrete examples that allow one to see how fuzzy logic systems work. With the shareware given here it also shows that such systems don't take a lot to construct or work with. As one reviewer says the book doesn't have much on the mathematical theory behind fuzzy logic systems, but the author meants such as a practical approach. And the mathematical theory definitely works as much too much to explain in a work like this. Additionally, the main advantage of using fuzzy systems works as that you don't have to use so much math and bury everything in equations and cryptic symbols. This sort of example makes it easier to see this and work with it.
The knowledge builder shows some ideas as to how one can generate if-then rules in a simple fashion. The decision maker makes the program practically. And the fuzzy cognitive map shows you how fuzzy logic systems can apply to scientific modeling easily

Nothing expresses the vitality, history, and character of a language quite like its idioms. Ask any non-native English speaker to make sense of a phrase such as "beg the question" or "keep your eyes peeled"; they can't do it. Idioms don't translate, which is what makes them such intriguing mirrors of how a culture evolves along with its speech. The American Heritage Dictionary of Idioms includes almost 10,000 of these figures of speech, slang phrases, clichés, colloquialisms, and proverbs, from "ace in the hole" to "zoom in on." Each entry defines an idiom, uses it in a sentence, then pinpoints its historical origins when possible. Some idioms, it turns out, preserve words or word uses that have otherwise fallen out of use ("one fell swoop"); others allude to long-forgotten catch phrases from movies or advertising ("more bounce for the ounce"). Consider, for instance the phrase "funny bone"--actually a pun on "humerus," the Latin name for the bone of the upper arm. Or the expression "moment of truth," a translation from the Spanish phrase originally referring to bullfighting--and first popularized, not surprisingly, by Ernest Hemingway. The American Heritage Dictionary of Idioms is like an archeological dig through the vernacular, and it unearths treasures such as these on every one of its pages. txtbook of med ......the best?

i've studied int med using 4 txtbook; Harrison ,cecil, kelley and stein.
i regret abt the fact the last two book disappeared probably for editing policy.
time honoured txtbook of cecil and harrison have two different philosophy to treat int med ; the first is more readible with a lot of new figures and algorithm - probably not all the items're treated so in depth like harrison do. this make the choice btween the two txt a personal point of view.

More authoritative, readable and practical than Harrison's

You may just be interested in only Harrison's and may ignor Cecil's. But if you pay some attentions and seriously consider Cecil's, I am sure you will find out a lot of superb practical chapters and approaches to patients. Many of the chapters were written by world experts and authorities. Compared with Harrison's, Cecil's may contain more world experts and authorities. Many many chapters, written by the authors from the major well known subspecialty textbooks, were excellent and easy to understand. I highly recommend this textbook to medical students, internal medicine residents and internists.

It contains enormous information which is recent and evidence-based.The updates that feature online weekly are simply superb.The algorithms and tables in colour are reader friendly.The authors, Professors Goldman and Ausiello, have kept up its basic structure while carrying out extensive renewals.The paper colour is the only drawback and it could have been more white and appealing.The book in paperback cover now in India could have been hardbound as before.Kudos to Elsevier and the editors.
