Numerous books have been written on Radar Systems and Radar Applications. A limited set of these books provides companion software. There is need for a comprehensive reference book that can provide the reader with hands-on-like experience. The ideal radar book, in my opinion, should serve as a conclusive, detailed, and useful reference for working engineers as well as a textbook for students learning radar systems analysis and design. This book must assume few prerequisites and must stand on its own as a complete presentation of the subject. Examples and exercise problems must be included. User friendly software that demonstrates the theory needs to be included. This software should be reconfigurable to allow different users to vary the inputs in order to better analyze their relevant and unique requirements, and enhance understanding of the subject.
Radar Systems Analysis and Design Using MATLAB® concentrates on radar fundamentals, principles, and rigorous mathematical derivations. It also provides the user with a comprehensive set of MATLAB1 5.0 software that can be used for radar analysis and/or radar system design. All programs will accept user inputs or execute using the default set of parameters. This book will serve as a valuable reference to students and radar engineers in analyzing and understanding the many issues associated with radar systems analysis and design. It is written at the graduate level. Each chapter provides all the necessary mathematical and analytical coverage required for good understanding of radar theory. Additionally, dedicated MATLAB functions/programs have been developed for each chapter to further enhance the understanding of the theory, and provide a source for establishing radar system design requirements. This book includes over 1190 equations and over 230 illustrations and plots. There are over 200 examples and end-of-chapter problems. A solutions manual will be made available to professors using the book as a text. The philosophy behind Radar Systems Analysis and Design Using MATLAB is that radar systems should not be complicated to understand nor difficult to analyze and design.

This book is a revision and extension of notes I wrote for a graduate seminar in relational database theory given at Stony Brook. The purpose of that course was to give students enough background in relational database theory to enable them to understand the current research being done in the field. I have not attempted to be exhaustive in covering all results in relational database theory-the field has already grown too large to cover everything. Instead, I have attempted to get within “one paper” of all current work: This book should give a student sufficient background to read recent papers in relational theory.
While most of the material presented here has been presented before, there is some new material, particularly on annular covers and in the chapter on database semantics. I have tried to bring material together that was available previously only in separate papers, and give some coherence to the results. That task has involved translating many of the results into standard notation, redoing some of the definitions, and constructing some new proofs for previously known theorems.
The book is aimed at a second course in databases, presumably at the graduate level, but possibly at the advanced undergraduate level. While an introductory course in database management systems is not an absolute prerequisite for this book, it is certainly desirable for some concrete motivation and intuition for the abstractions presented here. No specific course in mathematics is assumed, but there should be an acquaintance with set theory and the rudiments of formal logic. Some of the exercises require some sophisticated combinatorics, but those exercises are not central to the topic being developed-they are included for fun. Exercises that are deemed particularly difficult are marked with an asterisk.
Of course, I hope the book also will be a useful reference for researchers already working in the area. The bibliography is current through October 1981; some of the technical reports presumably have since appeared in journals and conference proceedings. I am grateful to Jeff Ullman for an advance copy of the bibliography to the second edition of Principles of Database Systems.

This book contains the written contributions to the International Symposium on Medical Simulation (ISMS 2004) held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA on June 17–18, 2004.
The manuscripts are organized around five thematic sections relating to the multidisciplinary field of medical simulation: soft tissue properties and modeling, haptic rendering, real-time deformable models, anatomical modeling, and development frameworks.
The objectives of the symposium were to gather researchers to present their most recent, and promising work, to highlight research trends, and to foster dialogue and debates among participants. Live demonstrations were also included at the meeting, but could not be included in this volume. Finally, to address questions about areas for improvement and future directions of the field, we organized a panel of experts, including technical, medical and educational representatives.
This event followed the successful symposium organized by Hervé Delingette and Nicholas Ayache in France in June 2003. At that meeting we agreed that it would be beneficial for the community to have an annual gathering for the medical simulation community where researchers could exchange ideas and share their work in this emerging field. ISMS 2004 was co-organized by CIMIT/Harvard Medical School and Rutgers University.
We received 50 submissions from 14 different countries. Each was evaluated by three members of the scientific committee. We selected 16 manuscripts for oral presentation and 16 for poster presentation. All accepted manuscripts were allowed a written contribution of equal length. These published contributions are from research institutes, universities or companies from our diverse research community, including: Germany, Russia, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Korea, Israel, Canada and the United States of America.
The quality of the selected contributions implies that the conference will be an important milestone in the development of this new, but rapidly growing field at the convergence of several disciplines with key applications for the future of health care. We hope all the participants enjoyed this intense and stimulating scientific event.

In the late sixties, the definition of ALGOL 68 I 11 , for a long time called ALGOL X, reached some stability. It is at that period (1967) our team started the project of writing a compiler for that language. We had two goals in mind : (I) to make significant research in the field of compiler methodology, (2) to point out the special difficulties encountered in the design of the compiler and thus possibly influence the definition of the language.
This book is concerned with the first goal only ; ALGOL 68 should be considered a support to explain and develop compiling principles and techniques.
The whole book is directly based on the actual compiler we have written for the Electrologica-X8 computer ; this compiler has been operational since early 1973o Since May 1975, it is available on the "BS-computer", the Philips prototype developed by MBLE and which is at the origin of the UNIDATA 7720. In fact, the X8 has been microprogrammed on the BS [22] ; it is worthwhile to mention that microprogramming did not introduce any significant loss in efficiency.
The book does not require a very deep knowledge of ALGOL 68 except in some special cases described here for the sake of completeness only. The reading of some general description of the language as provided by 117] is however assumed.

This book is dedicated to the people who practise IT service management. Through their knowledge and experiences we have shaped the present and can see further toward the future along our journey to service excellence.
Over the past two decades the world of IT has changed dramatically. The IT Infrastructure Library framework has grown along with it and has shaped a community of practice that has spawned an entire industry. What hasn’t changed in all that time is the need for us as practitioners of service management to learn how best practices evolve and how they support and influence the customer’s successes or failures.
In a world of growing complexity, choice and globalization, ITIL has remained at the heart of the industry, growing and evolving to meet the needs of service providers. The current version of ITIL is a product of this evolution.
Within the pages of this book, we will introduce ITIL to the novice, further educate the practitioner and transform our understanding of IT service management best practices.
This book captures the basic concepts of the ITIL Service Lifecycle and its benefits. It serves as a reference to ITIL service management practices, but should not be considered a substitute for the ITIL core practice set.
It is from here we begin the journey into the ITIL service management practices.
