Data mining consists of attempting to discover novel and useful knowledge from data, trying to find patterns among datasets that can help in intelligent decision making. However, reports of real-world case studies are not generally detailed in the literature, due to the fact that they are usually based on proprietary datasets, making it impossible to publish the results. This kind of situation makes hard to evaluate, in a precise way, the degree of effectiveness of data mining techniques in real-world applications. On the other hand, researchers of this field of expertise usually exploit public-domain datasets.
This volume offers a wide spectrum of research work developed for data mining for real-world application. In the following, we give a brief introduction of the chapters that are included in this book.

Wireless and mobile networks have undergone a tremendous evolution since their start. This was mainly motivated by the need for connectivity everywhere, as exemplified by the philosophy of "always on" access. Mobile telephony was the first need felt by users, followed by the need for mobile Internet applications. Mobile telecommunications networks were the first concretization of mobile telephony, followed by a set of wireless technologies with or without embedded mobility and with or without infrastructure. Obviously, this large deployment of services over mobile and wireless networks is not easy from a network security point of view. This book presents selected up-to-date research on security in wireless and mobile environments, mainly WiFi and self-organized networks such as ad-hoc networks. The selected research work was peer-reviewed and presented at the Mobile and Wireless Networks Security (MWNS) 2008 Workshop in Singapore.

Secure Citrix Presentation Server, which runs on 99% of Fortune 500 Networks!
Citrix Presentation Server allows remote users to work off a network server as if they weren't remote. That means: Incredibly fast access to data and applications for users, no third party VPN connection, and no latency issues. All of these features make Citrix Presentation Server a great tool for increasing access and productivity for remote users. Unfortunately, these same features make Citrix just as dangerous to the network it?s running on. By definition, Citrix is granting remote users direct access to corporate servers?..achieving this type of access is also the holy grail for malicious hackers. To compromise a server running Citrix Presentation Server, a hacker need not penetrate a heavily defended corporate or government server. They can simply compromise the far more vulnerable laptop, remote office, or home office of any computer connected to that server by Citrix Presentation Server.
All of this makes Citrix Presentation Server a high-value target for malicious hackers. And although it is a high-value target, Citrix Presentation Servers and remote workstations are often relatively easily hacked, because they are often times deployed by overworked system administrators who haven't even configured the most basic security features offered by Citrix. "The problem, in other words, isn't a lack of options for securing Citrix instances; the problem is that administrators aren't using them." (eWeek, October 2007). In support of this assertion Security researcher Petko D. Petkov, aka "pdp", said in an Oct. 4 posting that his recent testing of Citrix gateways led him to "tons" of "wide-open" Citrix instances, including 10 on government domains and four on military domains.
* The most comprehensive book published for system administrators providing step-by-step instructions for a secure Citrix Presentation Server.
* Special chapter by Security researcher Petko D. Petkov?aka "pdp detailing tactics used by malicious hackers to compromise Citrix Presentation Servers.
* Companion Web site contains custom Citrix scripts for administrators to install, configure, and troubleshoot Citrix Presentation Server.

The aim of this book is to provide a comprehensive introduction to cryptography without using complex mathematical constructions. The themes are conveyed in a form that only requires a basic knowledge of mathematics, but the methods are described in sufficient detail to enable their computer implementation. The book describes the main techniques and facilities of contemporary cryptography, proving key results along the way. The contents of the first five chapters can be used for one-semester course.
For centuries, cryptography, as the science of ciphering or covering information from unauthorised use, had been employed mainly for protecting messages communicated between the military or governmental officials. Therefore, the circle of people employing cryptography was quite restricted and the very methods of this science secret. However, in the last decades, when the mankind has entered the information society stage, cryptographic methods of information protection become widely used, serving, in the first place, business needs. At that, not only inter-bank payments carried out over computer networks are meant or, say, electronic exchanges operating via the Internet, but also numerous transactions in which millions of dinary” people are involved every day, such as payments by credit cards, transferring wages onto bank accounts, ordering tickets and buying goods over the Internet, etc. It is a natural demand that all these transactions, as well as mobile phone conversations and electronic mail, be secured against dishonest or just overly inquisitive persons and organisations. Therefore nowadays many specialists working in the field of information technologies (IT) are engaged in designing and- exploiting the systems of information protection. Since many of the methods used thereon are based on the results of contemporary cryptography, this subject is now studied in the universities preparing IT specialists.

Most data from satellites are in image form, thus most books in the remote sensing field deal exclusively with image processing. However, signal processing can contribute significantly in extracting information from the remotely sensed waveforms or time series data. Pioneering the combination of the two processes, Signal and Image Processing for Remote Sensing provides a balance between the role of signal processing and image processing in remote sensing. Featuring contributions from worldwide experts, this book emphasizes mathematical approaches. Divided into two parts, Part I examines signal processing for remote sensing and Part II explores image processing. Not limited to the problems with data from satellite sensors, the book considers other sensors which acquire data remotely, including signals and images from infrasound, seismic, microwave, and satellite sensors. It covers a broader scope of issues in remote sensing information processing than other books in this area. With rapid technological advances, the mathematical techniques provided will far outlast the sensor, software and hardware technologies. Focusing on methodologies of signal processing and image processing in remote sensing, this book discusses unique techniques for dealing with remote sensing problems.

NETWORK DESIGN IS A COMPLEX PROCESS, requiring knowledge of several disciplines to include engineering, financial analysis, and computer science. Although the network design process was never simple, advances in technology and the introduction of new networking communications facilities and products resulted in a difficult endeavor becoming more difficult. Today the network manager and LAN administrator face many difficult decisions when designing a network. Unlike many occupations where knowledge in one area is sufficient to perform a job, network managers and LAN administrators must be knowledgeable concerning multiple disciplines. For example, it is difficult to interconnect geographically separated LANs without knowledge of how WANs operate and the transmission facilities that can be used to facilitate the interconnection of local area networks.
Recognizing the fact that the search for reference material in itself can be a time consuming project, this handbook was created as a reference to network design principles and applications. As you will note from the contents, this handbook is subdivided into an introduction followed by eight distinct network design related sections. Within each network design related section are a series of section topic related chapters selected to provide you with a firm foundation concerning an important aspect of modern network design.

Issues of matching and searching on elementary discrete structures arise pervasively in computer science and many of its applications, and their relevance is expected to grow as information is amassed and shared at an accelerating pace. Several algorithms were discovered as a result of these needs, which in turn created the subfield of Pattern Matching. This book provides an overview of the current state of Pattern Matching as seen by specialists who have devoted years of study to the field. It covers most of the basic principles and presents material advanced enough to faithfully portray the current frontier of research. Because of these recent advances, this is the right time for a book that brings together information relevant to both graduate students and specialists in need of an in-depth reference.
