Mountains are the home of significant ecological resources - wildlife habitat, higher elevation plant systems, steep slopes and delicate soils, and water systems. These resources are subject to very visible and growing pressures, most of which are caused by the unique features of mountains. Using as case studies four mountain resorts in four ranges in the US and Canada, this book analyzes the extent to which the law protects the ecological systems of mountains from the adverse impacts associated with the development, operation, and expansion of resorts. Each of the case studies involves different types of landowners, somewhat similar ecological features, and very different legal regimes, as "Mountain Resorts" sets out to discover whether the law is capable of considering the mountain ecosystem as opposed to the individual components of the ecosystem. In order to examine these issues, the book takes an interdisciplinary approach, with contributions primarily from ecologists and lawyers who focus on ski-related activities, increasing four-season use of the mountains, and expanding residential, commercial and recreational development at the mountains' base. Its analysis of an array of US and Canadian federal, state, and local laws provides a multifaceted exploration of the intersection of ecology and the law at mountain resorts.

Some 150 years ago, in 1859, Charles Darwin was greatly puzzled by a seeming absence of animal fossils in rocks older than the Cambrian period. He drew attention to a veritable Lost World that was later found to have spanned more than eighty per cent of Earth history. This book tells the story of his lost world, and of the quest to rescue its hidden history from the fossil record. Intriguingly, such a quest did not really begin until 1958, some hundred years after Darwin. Why did an understanding take so long? Arguably it was because it was, and still remains, a very big and very difficult problem. Its study now involves the whole of the natural sciences. Progress has been a matter of slow attrition. For most of this time, for example, there has been no concept of the vast duration of Precambrian time, nor any evidence for a distinct biota.

"[...]a very interesting book[...]a very important contribution to the understanding of electrometallurgical processes, which up to now was only available by trawling through the literature. For anyone interested in electrometallurgy, especially researchers, this is an essential book for any personal library."
(Derek Fray, University of Cambridge in MRS Bulletin, May 2003)
This book begins with a thorough background of the subject. Next, the authors discuss the significance of electrometallurgy within the broader spectrum of science and technology. They then expand the previously laid theoretical base and explain mechanisms of metal deposition and applications for all existing related technologies.
The book will be of interest to undergraduate and graduate students involved with electrochemistry of metals, materials science, plating technologies, electronics materials and other fields. Scientists and engineers working in a variety of industries in addition to electrometallurgical process plants will find it an invaluable reference as it provides a thorough background of electrometallurgy, then explores the more advanced mechanisms of metal deposition in a logical manner.

This book describes the main aspects of radio propagation due to different natural and manmade phenomena occurring in ionospheric plasma. It discusses the possibility of stable radio communication links based on local scattering at field-elongated plasma inhomogeneities including natural inhomogeneities as well as artificial inhomogeneities. The text also explains how inhomogeneities can create focusing effects and can capture and channel radio waves in the ionosphere-ground surface waveguides and transmit information over long distances.
This book is intended for researchers, engineers, and graduate or postgraduate students who are concerned with the practical aspects of ionospheric radio propagation, over-horizon and abovehorizon radars, and ionospheric stations used for investigating nonregular phenomena occurring in the ionosphere, as well as with land–satellite and satellite–satellite communications. The phenomena treated include transport processes and photochemistry reactions occurring in the regular homogeneous ionosphere, nonlinear phenomena, and instabilities in the inhomogeneous disturbed ionosphere caused by various ambient natural and man-made (e.g., artificial) sources, and the corresponding plasma irregularities, natural and artificially induced, associated with these plasma instabilities.

GenXpat: The Young Professional’s Guide to Making a Successful Life Abroad is the first guide written for the new generation of young, internationally and culturally mobile professionals. These young professionals from "Generation X" – the generation most broadly defined as between the ages of 24 and 39 – are more than 62 million nationwide* and have their own unique set of challenges. Often single and in the earlier stages of their careers, GenXpats tend to go into their expat experience dramatically unprepared and underserved.
Wrapped up in fast-paced careers that increasingly involve travel and frequent international relocation, many young people find themselves bouncing from one exotic assignment to another at the cost of work/life balance, meaningful relationships and a sense of continuity or connection. Margaret Malewski, who has lived the "GenXpat" life, wrote GenXpat to help young professionals achieve the personal fulfillment they need to succeed in their international careers, including information on how to:
- make an informed to decision to move
- optimize an expat contract to ensure their personal needs are met
- juggle work and relocation logistics
- deal with culture shock and cultural differences
- build social networks abroad
- manage the question of romantic relationships, be it by dating across cultures, embarking on a long-distance relationship or moving with a partner
- prepare a smooth re-entry to the home country, workforce and culture
Full of real-life examples from GenXpats who are now working for multinational companies, GenXpat explains what to expect when starting an expat adventure.

This book describes, in a precise but practical way, the most recent principles and techniques of project management, at the highest international standards, with a fully company-wide, process-based, multi-project approach.
It is unique because of the integration of project management fundamentals with the practices of international contracting, which characterize planning, design and construction of large works (such as plants and machinery) in the industrial sectors.
The rigorous academic approach is mixed with the managerial contribution of Danieli, through its experience in supplying more than 120 turnkey projects for the steel industry, worldwide. The project managment of the latter is described along-side how it can be effectively applied to win and manage large international contracts.
«There are very few, if any, books in the project management field that describe in detail a company-wide approach to project management within a large, multi-national corporation, with the amount of detail and giving the useful, practical understanding of the underlying principles and specific processes and practices that are presented here». Russell D. Archibald
