There is no consensus among legal scholars on the meaning of judicial integrity, nor has legal scholarship yet seen a well-articulated discussion about the normative concept of judicial integrity. This book fills this gap by developing a theory of judicial integrity that can be applied to safeguarding mechanisms. Author Jonathan Soeharno makes an analysis of the discourses on judicial integrity in judiciaries in both established and developing democracies. In the former, the rule of law is well-developed and the trust in the judges is high, yet new demands for accountability emerge. In the latter, traditional integrity problems such as fraud and corruption take center stage. The author argues that integrity must be understood both as professional virtue - discussed here through the lens of virtue ethical theory - and as the safeguarding of public trust, as understood through institutional theory. He places this new model of judicial integrity into the contexts of judicial decision-making and judicial conduct, before concluding with a discussion of applied ethics, as he recommends parameters for the safeguarding of this extremely important, and until now little understood, legal and moral concept. "The Integrity of the Judge" is a significant new work for legal theorists and philosophers, as well as scholars of legal and judicial ethics.

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a key technique in modern reproductive medicine. Originally developed to help couples who were at risk of transmitting single-gene genetic abnormalities to their children, the development of the FISH technique broadened chromosome analysis to include detection of more complex inherited abnormalities. The last decade has seen the development of aneuploidy screening (PGS) for infertile couples, using the same techniques as PGD but screening for as many chromosomes as possible. PGD has always been a controversial procedure and embryo manipulation and selection is still illegal in some countries. The second edition of this leading textbook describes all aspects of PGD, with chapters written by key international experts in the field. A must for anyone interested in learning more about PGD, it will be of interest to everyone working in the fields of IVF, genetic diagnosis, genetic counselling, and prenatal diagnosis - including clinicians, embryologists, nurses, and clinical scientists.

"Disciplining the Divine" offers the first comprehensive treatment of the Social Model of the Trinity, exploring its central place within much theological discourse of the past half century, including its relation to wider cultural and political concerns. The book highlights the manner in which theologians have attempted to make the doctrine of God relevant to modern issues and outlooks the conditions that have necessitated such a reconfiguration of theological analysis. While interrogatory in tone and intent, "Disciplining the Divine" nevertheless provides a critical reconstruction of a Christian theology and practice which might be undertaken within the political and cultural contexts of the new millennium.

Fourier analysis has been the inspiration for a technological wave of advances in fields such as imaging processing, financial modeling, algorithms and sequence design. This unified, self-contained book examines the mathematical tools used for decomposing and analyzing functions, specifically, the application of the [discrete] Fourier transform to finite Abelian groups.

With countless examples and unique exercise sets at the end of each section, Fourier Analysis on Finite Abelian Groups is a perfect companion to a first course in Fourier analysis. The first chapter provides the fundamental material that is a strong foundation for all subsequent chapters.

Special topics including:

* Computing Eigenvalues of the Fourier transform

* Applications to Banach algebras

* Tensor decompositions of the Fourier transform

* Quadratic Gaussian sums.

This book introduces mathematics students to subjects that are within their reach, but it also has powerful applications that may appeal to advanced researchers and mathematicians. The only prerequisites necessary are group theory, linear algebra, and complex analysis.

This book covers technologies, applications, tools, languages, procedures, advantages, and disadvantages of reconfigurable supercomputing using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). The target audience is the community of users of High Performance Computers (HPC) who may benefit from porting their applications into a reconfigurable environment. As such, this book is intended to guide the HPC user through the many algorithmic considerations, hardware alternatives, usability issues, programming languages, and design tools that need to be understood before embarking on the creation of reconfigurable parallel codes. We hope to show that FPGA acceleration, based on the exploitation of the data parallelism, pipelining and concurrency remains promising in view of the diminishing improvements in traditional processor and system design. Table of Contents: FPGA Technology / Reconfigurable Supercomputing / Algorithmic Considerations / FPGA Programming Languages / Case Study: Sorting / Alternative Technologies and Concluding Remarks

Monotonization of the world. Strong spiritual impression of all travels of the last years, despite the individual happiness: a pale drab of monotonization of the world. Everything is becoming similar in its outward appearances, leveling out in a uniform cultural scheme. The individual customs of peoples are wearing off , the way of dress is becoming uniform, ethics international. Ever more nations seem fused together, people living and working in the same way, cities looking alike. Ever more the fi ne aroma of the specifi cness of cultures evaporates, ever more vengeful the colors peel off , and beneath the cracked layers of varnish the steel-colored pistons of the mechanical bustle, the modern worldmachine, become visible
