Healthy Carb Cookbook For Dummies

Image

Wiley Publishing, Inc. | ISBN-10: 0-7645-8476-6 | ENGLISH | PDF | 394 PAGES | 7.60 MB

Introduction
Are you hankering for some new horizons for cooking low-carb? Well, you’ve come to the right place. This book is fun, and I’ve developed and de-carbed some pretty awesome recipes for you to incorporate into your daily low-carb lifestyle whether you’re cooking for one, two, or an entire family. Lowcarb never tasted so good!
Regardless of the meal or food you have in mind, I think you’ll find a recipe that hits the spot here. From breakfast to soup, salads, sides, and main courses, I have you covered with these recipes, which are all about variety, great flavors, and healthy meals that don’t take forever to prepare. But it only gets better from there: I also include recipes for desserts (including some sweet surprises), fresh wraps, and snacks. I give you slow cooker recipes so that your low-carb meal is ready for you when you walk through the door, and I provide ideas for dishes to cook in a hurry (on days when you haven’t used your slow cooker!). And did I mention that there are veggies galore that are great for your health and will please your tummy, too? I hope you enjoy preparing these recipes as much as I have enjoyed putting together this book just for you. A majority of the recipes contain less than 10 grams of net carbs per serving.

About This Book
So what’s this book all about? It’s a mix of low-carb lessons that I’ve learned the hard way along my low-carb road, plus a ton of recipes that will satisfy your comfort-food cravings and your low-carb sweet tooth — a mix of comfort-food cooking sprinkled with my California-cuisine influences and a heavy serving of low-carb variety and healthy eating. The simple cook in me likes to get things on the table in a very timely manner and you’ll see that influence in the recipes in this book.
I grew up in a small Midwestern farming community on good, old-fashioned comfort food, and that’s what I learned to cook — three squares a day and plenty of desserts. Then, about 20 years ago, I moved to California, and my entire eating lifestyle changed. Even though I’d grown up eating veggies fresh from the garden and canning every year, the word fresh took on a whole new meaning for me when I was introduced to California cooking. Grilling became a year-round sport. Fruits and vegetables became even more prominent. And fish — even though I’d caught and cooked my fair share of freshwater fish in the Midwest, being able to walk down to the dock and buy seafood right off the boats was a treat beyond measure. (And let’s not forget exercise: I became a runner and ran the beach almost every day. I was one healthy California girl.)

Shut Up and Listen - The Truth about How to Communicate at Work

Image

Kogan Page Limited | ISBN 0 7494 4024 4 | ENGLISH | PDF | 186 PAGES | 5.32 MB

Introduction
The truth about… how this book works
‘It seems that if you have an organization with more than about seven people then lines of communication can become extended and messages can become confused.’

Michael Broadbent – Director of Group Corporate Affairs,
HSBC Holdings plc

We are much better communicators when we know more about ourselves, think about how and what we communicate and act according to the changes in our circumstance and environment. These are the principles this book is based on. So, there are three main sections, starting with a short course in self-awareness so that you can find out more about the type of communicator (and person) you are, which is important if you’re going to understand better how your various ‘audiences’ see you. The main part of the book (the second section) is all about ‘how to…’ Lots of business books talk a lot about strategy (the plan), but leave you feeling hungry for tactics (the day-to-day things you have to do to implement it). Here, we think you know your organization’s plan better than we do, so all we’re trying to do is give you advice on the best way to put it into practice. There are five main subsections within ‘how to…’ looking at reading, writing, listening, talking and feeling, where you’ll find tips on everything from how
to persuade your boss to give you a company car, through to the best use of PowerPoint in a formal presentation.
We’re grateful to the experts who contributed to this book; they all did so, giving their own time and experience freely. Lots of the practical stuff comes from them and we’ve added our own case studies and stories that we’ve collected over our own careers in business and education.

Tissues and Skin

Image

Infobase Publishing | ISBN-10: 0-7910-7708-X | ENGLISH | PDF | 155 PAGES | 11.02 MB

Introduction
The human body is an incredibly complex and amazing structure. At best, it is a source of strength, beauty, and wonder. We can compare the healthy body to a well-designed machine whose parts work smoothly together. We can also compare it to a symphony orchestra in which each instrument has a different part to play. When all of the musicians play together, they produce beautiful music. From a purely physical standpoint, our bodies are made mainly of water. We are also made of many minerals, including calcium, phosphorous, potassium, sulfur, sodium, chlorine, magnesium, and iron. In order of size, the elements of the body are organized into cells, tissues, and organs. Related organs are combined into systems, including the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, nervous, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine, and reproductive systems. Our cells and tissues are constantly wearing out and being replaced without our even knowing it. In fact, much of the time, we take the body for granted. When it is working properly,
we tend to ignore it. Although the heart beats about 100,000 times per day and we breathe more than 10 million times per year, we do not normally think about these things. When something goes wrong, however ,our bodies tell us through pain and other symptoms. In fact, pain is a very effective alarm system that lets us know the body needs attention. If the pain does not go away, we may need to see a doctor. Even without medical help, the body has an amazing ability to heal itself. If we cut ourselves, the blood clotting system works to seal the cut right away, and the immune defense system sends out special blood cells that are programmed to heal the area.

Upgrading And Repairing Laptops, 2nd Edition

Image

Que | ISBN-10: 0-7897-3376-5 | ENGLISH | CHM | 912 PAGES | 9.11 MB

Introduction
Welcome to Upgrading and Repairing Laptops, the only book of its kind on the market!
Laptop computers are the largest growing part of the computer industry, with sales that continue to outpace desktop systems. For those in the industry, there has never been a better reason to get into upgrading and repairing laptops, because not only are they selling better than ever, but their higher prices allow you to charge more for services rendered.
But aren't laptops proprietary, which means they cannot easily be upgraded or repaired? Many people are familiar with the fact that desktop PCs normally use industry-standard components, which allow cost-effective upgrades and repairs to be performed. In fact, this philosophy is the basis for my best-selling book Upgrading and Repairing PCs, currently available in a 16th edition, with the 17th edition currently in the works. However, what many people don't know is that laptop and notebook computers have evolved from being mostly proprietary to using larger and larger numbers of industry-standard components. This means, in plain English, that laptop and notebook computers are more upgradeable and repairable than ever before. Being a long-time user of portable computers myself, I thought the time was finally right to explore this subject in more depth, resulting in this book.
In this book, you will learn about all the components that make up a modern laptop or notebook computer, which components are based on industry standards and which are proprietary, and which components can easily be upgraded or replaced. As most of you know, laptops are more expensive than desktops, so whereas desktop computers are becoming more and more of a commodity, laptops are still somewhat exclusive. They are more difficult to work on, and the components are smaller and more expensive. All of this contributes to upgrades and repairs that are more expensive overall.
You can look at this book two ways: From the perspective of a laptop user, knowing how to upgrade and repair your own system can save you a bundle of money! Using the information in this book, you can effectively troubleshoot a problem; isolate the defective component; obtain a replacement; and finally perform the physical interchange of parts, the actual upgrade, or repair. This capability is useful not only for older systems, where the cost of service might exceed the value of the system, but also with newer laptops, which can be easily upgraded with newer technology such as wireless networking, faster USB or FireWire ports, more memory, larger hard disks, and even faster processors.
From the perspective of a computer technician or support person working in the industry, knowing how to upgrade and repair laptop computers gives you a significant edge over others in the industry who are afraid to open laptop systems. They can be daunting. Many of the laptops on the market today are held together by upwards of 100 screws, often consisting of several different types! They also often include many intricately assembled plastic parts that can easily break or be damaged if you don't take them apart properly. The benefit is that as a repair technician, you can charge more for laptop service and repair, which gives you another edge over other technicians who can work only on commodity-level desktop systems.

Humana Press | ISBN: 978-1-60327-452-4 | ENGLISH | PDF | 420 PAGES | 5.02 MB

Introduction
Inappropriate nutrition, increased calorie intake, and lack of exercise usually lead to obesity and the metabolic syndrome, which, in turn, are responsible for several chronic diseases that affect every aspect of a person s life. In addition to prevention and medical treatment, education is the single most important tool for their management. Education is also of major importance in raising public health awareness since it can hopefully help curb the global epidemic of obesity, diabetes, and other disease states associated with the metabolic syndrome.
Following is a list of government agencies and nongovernmental organizations that provide information and resources related to nutrition, obesity, and diabetes.

Network Processors - Architecture, Programming, and Implementation

Image

Elsevier Inc. | ISBN 978-0-12-370891-5 | ENGLISH | PDF | 737 PAGES | 10.34 MB

Introduction
Network processors (NPs) are chips—programmable devices that can process network packets (up to hundreds of millions of them per second), at wire-speeds of multi-Gbps. Their ability to perform complex and fl exible processing on each packet, as well as the fact that they can be programmed and reprogrammed as required, make them a perfect and easy solution for network systems vendors developing packet processing equipment.
Network processors are about a decade old now and they have become a fundamental and critical component in many high-end network systems and demanding network processing environments.
This chapter introduces this relatively new processing paradigm, and provide a high-level perspective of what NPs are, where to use them and why, and conclude with a brief description of the contents of the rest of the book.

NETWORK PROCESSORS ECOSYSTEM
Telecommunications and data networks have become essential to everything that we do, to our well-being and to all of our requirements. The prevalence of Internet technology, cable TV (CATV), satellite broadcasting, as well as fi xed and cellular mobile telephony, tie many and expanding services to a very large population that is growing exponentially. The increasing speed of the communication links has triggered a wide range of high-speed networks, followed by an increasingly broad spectrum of services and applications.
We are witnessing this dramatic growth in communication networks and services; just think of the changes that networks and services have undergone in the past 10 years in the areas of mobile, video, Internet, information availability, TV, automation, multimedia, entertainment, online services, shopping, and multiplayer games. You can safely assume that an equivalent jump in technology and services will happen again in the next 5 years or so.

IQ and Aptitude Tests

Kogan Page Limited | ISBN-10 0 7494 4931 4 | English | PDF | 192 Pages | 5.12 MB |

Introduction
An aptitude test is, generally, any test designed to measure potential for achievement. The word aptitude is sometimes misused to mean ‘ability’ or ‘achievement’; however, there is a subtle difference between the three words aptitude, ability and achievement, which can be distinguished as follows:
• aptitude – how quickly or easily you will be able to learn in the future;
• ability – what you are able to demonstrate in the present;
• achievement – what you have accomplished in the past.
There are nine different types of aptitude, which may be summarized as follows:
• General learning: learning and understanding, reasoning and making judgements. Example: how well we achieve at school.
• Verbal aptitude: general lexical skills – understanding words and using them effectively.
• Numerical aptitude: general mathematical skills – working with numbers quickly and accurately.
• Spatial aptitude: understanding geometric forms, and the understanding and identification of patterns and their
