Akrasia is an old question dealing with the weakness of the will. To behave "akratically" is when one acts against his better judgement, committing acts that are known to be wrong but yet still going through with the motion. Markus Lonebrink wanted to explore not so much the philosophical issues at hand, but rather the subjective experience of akrasia itself. To learn of the underlying motives of when one acts akratically. Certain events in the akratic process felt natural to him and it was those he tried to integrate into these soundscapes. There are no conclusions described in the music, but there might be a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel and perhaps the shadow of a hint of why we humans sometimes act as irrationally as we do. A shared quest to gain better knowledge of oneself through this self-revisionistic ambient journey filled with ethereally lush passages that give way to a truly visionary and immersive experience.
The album also features a special collaboration with Pär Bostrom of KAMMARHEIT.

Gordon Chambers is no stranger to the music industry. In fact, he has been writing songs since the age of 7, which clearly explains why this album is nothing but HEAT! The Teaneck, New Jersey native is currently signed to L.A. Reid's prestigious Hitco Music publishing company where has written for over 60 recording artists, including household names Aretha Franklin, Queen Latifah, Usher, Brandy, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan and Marc Anthony. He is best known for his 1994 Grammy- winning hit "I Apologize" for Anita Baker and his 1995 #1 Grammy-nominated smash "If You Love Me" for the trio Brownstone (which was later featured as the theme song of the film "Living Out Loud").

In a tree farm, three musically inclined chipmunks, Alvin, Simon and Theodore, find their tree cut down and sent to Los Angeles. Once there, they meet the frustrated songwriter David Seville, and despite a poor house wrecking first impression, they impress him with their singing talent. Seeing the opportunity for success, both human and chipmunks make a pact for them to sing his songs. While that ambition proves a frustrating struggle with the difficult trio, the dream does come true after all. However, that success presents its own trials as their unscrupulous record executive, Ian Hawke, plans to break up this family to exploit the boys. Will Smith is one of the few rappers who remains to be true by not giving into the “negative angry rapper” persona. From the beginning in 1987 to the present, he produces hit after hit without promoting a destructive message, and most important “keeps it clean”. I have grown up listening to DJ Jazzy Jeff & Smith’s work since I was young and was elated to hear all my favorite songs on one disc. He was one of the few rapper my mother allowed me to hear in our home, and many people has not given this rapper his proper props. If you enjoy his work you will enjoy is complication package. Dave Weckl Band - Multiplicity [2005]

Dave Weckl is known as one of the best drummers in history. His band's release 'Multiplicity' may only contain 9 tracks, but this band creates a unique blend of culture and creativity within and has produced one of the best of Dave Weckl Bands' greatest albums. This band of Scots was anything but average.The truth was that AWB did everything a good band was supposed to do, whatever their ethnicity. They played extremely well as was the case of any good R & B outfit--musical excellence always was a minimum entrance requirement to cut it in R & B. They even paid dues to elder statesmen the Isley Brothers by a faithful rendition of their "Work To Do". So AWB triumphed after all--"Pick Up the Pieces" is an R & B standard, and people go "what?...oh yeah" when reminded that the band who did it were a bunch of Scottish white boys.

Much of the music from this record has been covered by smooth jazz artists yearning for an edge (like Candy Dulfer) and sampled by savvy DJs. The Average White Band ran short on ideas after a few recordings, but the ones presented here deserve your rapt attention.

These guys are anything but average, and this album proves it. They finally came into their own with this album. From the hit slow jam "A love of your own" to subtle funk of "I'm the one" they found the right groove. If you want to start your collection of AWB then start with this album.

On this 1979 album, the boys from the highlands are still churning out top quality precision grooves. It's not surprising at all the despite it's 1979 release that 'Feel No Fret' has nothing what so ever to do with disco.What is a little surprising is that none of the music here particularly sounds like it comes from the late 70's-an era marked by heavy electronics and often slick production.And those are great in the right hands but AWB opted to stick with their classic sound as they had since the beginning.And either in spite or because of this happy musical surprises such as this album were bound to fall from the sky and brighten ones day.

For years, as playlists and multidisc players put Led Zeppelin tracks into a mix, there was a perpetual need to adjust the volume when Zep came on. Their tunes languished in the haze of substandard remastering–until now, at least for the 24 tracks on Mothership and the final fullness of the new Song Remains the Same reissue. For its part, Mothership’s crisper, warmer audio owes its heft to the troika of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, who helped oversee the mastering, bringing out untold shades even in the throes of “Heartbreaker” and the sinews of “No Quarter.” It’s an impressive sonic leap. Where tinny high-ends and muffled lows used to co-exist, fatter and louder depths prevail. It’s ever more astonishing that Zep got on with just four blokes. (more…)

I have enjoyed the work of James Newton Howard for several years, beginning with his score for the Fugitive, but it was not until the last 4 or 5 years that I feel that Howard has come into his own. With stirring scores for Atlantic, Dinosaur and especialy Treasure Planet, Howard has advanced quickly through the ranks of other composers to begin to emerge as one of the elite in the movie business. His score for Peter Pan enhances an already great resume. His work on Peter Pan perfectly matches with movie with light and fun themes interchanging with dark swashbuckling music and an adventurous themes, and of course his wonderful and beautiful flying music. His flying theme is truly a masterpiece, a soaring melody that puts the listener in the clouds with the characters on screen. I rate Howard’s Peter Pan very highly and consider it to be among the most enjoyable of scores to listen to. (more…)

As modern and contemporary as the new Charlie’s Angels is supposed to be, the soundtrack, with the exception of a few new offerings from Destiny’s Child, Aerosmith, and Fatboy Slim, is a nostalgic mix tape of 1970s and ’80s hits. The older songs are fun and ripe for a party: Tavares’s “Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel,” Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up (Part1),” and Deee-lite’s “Groove is in the Heart” are certain to please a crowd. The new tracks, with one notable exception, are weak and contrived. Destiny’s Child offers “Independent Women (Part 1),” an empty declaration of female self-reliance (aren’t we over this already?). Aerosmith’s “Angel’s Eye” is, in a word, terrible. The exception is Caviar’s “Tangerine Speedo,” a trip-hoppy lounge groove that packs a sassy punch. All in all, Charlie’s Angels is a solid purchase, but in spite of, not because of, the new material.

would say that this soundtrack is pretty good. it has all the songs from all three games, 8 from Sands of Time, 7 from Warrior Within, and if you do the math that leaves 4 for The Two Thrones. even though this soundtrack is good i am disappointed at the fact that the ending song from The Two Thrones is not included, but from the first game it is included Time Only Knows and but a few other songs from the third game are missing. But overall it was worth getting it

Rambo: First Blood Part II, although a less than brilliant movie, is blessed with what is arguably one of the greatest action film scores of all time. It’s a beautiful blending of orchestra and electronic music, one that sizzles with energy from start to finish. Thankfully Goldsmith does bring back some of the softer, melancholic military themes from First Blood for some of this sequel’s brief quiet times. An essential for Goldsmith fans and action film score buffs.

Charles Alexander Clouser is a musician whose activities include playing keyboard and drums, music programming, engineering, and mixing. He was a member of the band Nine Inch Nails from 1994-200, and has done remixes for bands such as White Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, Prong, Killing Joke, and Type O Negative. The soundtrack to “Resident Evil: Extinction” is great! A great soundtrack to one of the fall’s anticipated movies. Everytime a Resident Evil movie is released, I have to buy the soundtrack because of the exceptional and varied mix of music included. However, this soundtrack is a complete letdown. While Charlie Clouser does a good job on the score, the choice of artists is overall bad, and the music downright awful, and in my opinion does not fit the movie at all. (more…)

2008 album from Nick and his Bad Seeds, their 14th studio album overall. Produced by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Nick Launay who worked with the band on their last album Abattoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus, this album was recorded over the summer of 2007 at State of the Ark Studios in Richmond and mixed by Nick Launay. Dig Lazarus Dig transports the biblical character of the title to contemporary New York, as well as drawing inspiration from escapologist Harry Houdini. Featuring the majority of his usual personnel in The Bad Seeds (including violinist Warren Ellis and organist/pianist Conway Savage), 11 tracks including ‘Night Of The Lotus Eaters’, ‘Hold On To Yourself’ and the first single ‘Dig Lazarus Dig’. It's been more then 10 years since the West Coast was a dominant force in the rap game. While the East Coast, The Midwest, and The Southhave had their respective runs, folks in California have been waiting for the ball to come back around. There have been moments- Dr. Dre's 2001, The Game's 2005, the hype of the hyphy movement a couple of years ago-but nothing has restored the glory of the Golden State's golden era of 1992 to 1996.

Lately, though, there've been some tremors out by the San Andeas fault. Snoop's back on top. The Game's playing hardball. Once dormant giants E-40 and Ice Cube are enjoying late-career resurgences. A gang of lesser-known artists, too, are rumbling a seismic shift along the Pacific shelf. Here are 15 rappers and producers starting to quake the earth out in the land where the sun sets.

"Taking It Nationwide"

1> Clyde Carson

Like the "five-tool" players baseball scouts drool over, Clyde Carson has the total package: looks, swagger, lyrics, flow and songwriting. Though he's released a couple of singles ("2 Step" and "Doin That"), his recently completed, newly titled album, California State Of Mind. is still in scheduling limbo, but his association with the Game's Black Wall Street Records should keep his name poppin'.

2> Bishop Lamont

Slick spit sermons about girls, guns and God have Bishop Lamont's street albums, Nigger Noize, Calitroit and Pope Mobile, a devout flock of fans. Now signed to Aftermath (and helping Dr. Dre make detox), the man who refers to himself as "The Hood Franklin" is currently working on his major-label debut.

3> Mistah F.A.B.

Even after his 2005 Bay Area smash Son Ova Pimp won him what was reported to be a seven-figure deal with Atlantic Records, Mistah Fab has continued to put in work on the independent grind. Malone and Mobb Deep producer Alchemist all lead up to F.A.B.'s major label debut, Da Yellow Bus Rydah, due this year.

A third, Tear Gas, is scheduled to hit streets this spring.

With regional success under his belt ("Super Hyphy", "T-shirts,Blue jeans and Nikes"), as well as guest appearances on E-40's national hit "TellMe When To Go," Keak seemed primed to sign to a major and take his unorthadox style to the masses two years ago. He's reloaded, though, putting label woes and bad decisions behind him, and set to drop his latest, Deify, Through Koch this spring.

11> Suga Free

A self proclaimed real, live pimp moonlighting in the rap game, Suga Free has been recording for more then a decade. Though he's never found success to match that of frequent collaborators Quik and Snoop Dogg, the 38 year old preacher of "street gospel" has wrangled Warner Bros. distribution for this spring's Smell My Finger.

12> Turf Talk
representing: Rialto and Vallejo

Lighting up the hyphy scene with his hits like 2004's "It's Ah Slumper", Turf Talk has sold more tehn 40,000 records for his older cousin E-40's Sick Wid It Records. While wider acceptance has eluded him, his unique, percolating voice keeps the Bay Area going dumb.

Droop-E started turning heads in 2005, witrh his production on Mistah F.A.B.'s "Super Sic Wid It" and Messy Marv's "Get On My Hype". 2008 looks to be the year he sets them spinning. The producer's spare but memorably melodic beats are slotted for upcoming projects from Nelly, Lil Jon, and his father E-40.

14> Terrace Martin

Producer/rapper/television and film scorer and... saxophonist! Terrace Martin can do it all. A former child prodigy in the jazz community, the 24 year old Martin has segued into producing hip hop music. In his new but already successful career, he's provided neo-G funk riding music for Snoop Dogg, Kurput, Game and this year's upcoming gangster flick Por Vida (starring Danny Glover and Snoop Dogg).

The lead attraction on the soundtrack for this Scotland-set movie is “Back Where You Belong (Theme from The Water Horse),” a song written and performed by Sinéad O’Connor, and produced by Daniel Lanois. It’s a heartwrenching ballad that’s all the more powerful because O’Connor’s performance is so pared down. In an age of overbearing movie themes, it’s a refreshing approach, full of tenderness and dignity. The song bookends the CD with “The Water Horse Suite,” a piece performed by Irish trad-music superstars, the Chieftains, that steadily builds up momentum over the course of its eight-minute duration. Sandwiched between these two tracks is James Newton Howard’s score. In his liner notes, director Jay Russell calls it “a beautiful Celtic symphony which delivers the complexity of Gustav Mahler with the simple grandeur of Aaron Copland.” Er…not quite. Howard does not deviate much from the Hollywood template for family/fantasy films, except this time he introduces Celtic flavors on a few cues. At his best (”The Fishermen”), Newton Howard evokes a certain fierceness, but overall this is fairly standard.

And here it is, the stoner rock album to end all stoner rock albums. It doens't get much heavier or much more epic than this. I mentioned this album briefly in my Om post. As I said, this album was the demise of the band. After getting signed to a major label in the mid 90s, Sleep spent a good two years recording and re-recording this album. Once it was finally finished, it was rejected by the record label. They reworked it and "slimmed" the song down to 53 minutes. It was still rejected. So the band broke up. After nearly 10 years of bootlegs and infamy, the album was finally put out, in it's full one hour and three minute running time. You'd think after that much time the hype would prove more weight than the album can handle, but if there's one thing Dopesmoker has, it's weight. That is to say, this album is fucking heavy. There's some kind of story throughout the album, I've never really listened to the lyrics closely enough. It's something about a journey through Israel to Dope-usalem or something like that. It's got something to do with weed. Anyway, if I hadn't made it clear, this is a legendary album with a legendary history and a legendary sound, get it.

A nevet- Jimi Hendrix Experience- Chas Chandler menedzser találta ki, és ő segített Jiminek megtalálni a másik két tagot, Noel Redding basszgitárost és Mitch Mitchell dobost (állítólag pénzfeldobéssal dőlt el, hogy őt vagy Aynsley Danbart veszik-e be?). A frissen alakult együttesnek rögtön szerveztek is néhány párizsi koncertet, ahol főként klasszikus r&b-feldolgozásokat és mindössze egy saját számot (a Hey Joe-t) játszottak. Október 23-án vették fel az Experience első kislemezét (Hey Joe, Stone Free), és nem sokkal később Németországban léptek fel. Jimi először itt verte szét nyílt színen a gitárját- ez később a koncertek egyik fő látványosságává vált, viszont nem nevezhető eredeti ötletnek, mivel ez a viselkedés már jó ideje a Who védjegyének számított. A gitárégetéshez- Jimi másik ismert színpadi mutatványához- egy újságírótól kapta az ötletet. Még decemberben piacra dobták a kislemezt Angliában, és '67 elejére mindkét fontosabb zenei listára, a Record Mirror Chartsra és a Melody Makerre is felkerült. z 1967-es év a hippimozgalom jegyében telt, az LSD szép lassan beszivárgott Londonba. A Beatles és a Rolling Stones mellett az Experience-t is megihlette, a Purple Haze c. számban Jimi állítólag egy LSD-"utazás" élményét írja le. A szám, amellett, hogy a mai napig nagyon ismert, technikailag is az egyik legprofibb. Jimiék számára a 67-es év célja a amerikai áttörés volt, amihez a monterey-i popfesztivál segítette hozzá őket. Az egyik legnagyobb amerikai fesztiválon rengeteg neves banda lépett fel, Jimi csak Paul McCartney ajánlásával kerülhetett be. A "nagy koncert" napján nem voltak a legkedvezőbbek a feltételek, a náluk jóval ismertebb Grateful Dead és a Who is előttük lépett fel, de a Jimi Hendrix Experience-nek sikerült a lehetetlen- fantaszikus koncertet adtak, és sikerült betörniük az amerikai köztudatba.A sikert látva gyorsan szerveztek nekik 12 fellépést a Fillmore Westben, eredetileg előzenekarként, de kiderült, hogy az emberek csak az eddig teljesen ismeretlen Experience-re kíváncsiak?Korábban Londonban elkezdték az első nagylemez felvételét. Jimi rengetegett kísérletezett, mindent megtett, hogy eddig sose hallott hangzást hozzon ki a gitárjából, és ebben fő segítsége Eddie Kramer, a lemez hangmérnöke volt. A zene tengelyét Redding basszusdallamai adták, erre épült Jimi és Mitch improvizációja. Az Are You Experienced sokszínű, rockos-bluesos (Red House)- tudományos-fantasztikus (Third Stone?) ihletésű lemez lett, olyan, mai napig ismert számokkal, mint a Foxy Lady, a Fire vagy a csúcspontot jelentő záródal, az Are You Experienced. Még 67 decemberében megjelent a második nagylemez, az Axis: Bold As Love is. A lemezfelvétel hangulata teljesen más volt, mint az Are You Experienced-nél, rengeteg rajongó lógott a stúdióban- kivéve, ha Jimi énekelt? (nem tartotta magát túl jó énekesnek, és annyira szégyenlős volt ezzel kapcsolatban, hogy gyakran a stúdióban is minden lámpát le kellett oltani, ha felvették az éneket). Az Axis: Bold As Love fő témáját Jimi nőkhöz fűződő érzései és a sci-fi iránti érdeklődése adta, ezen az albumon kapott helyet az együttes egyik legszebb száma,a Little Wing vagy a Szelíd motorosok egyik betétdala, az If six was nine.

In only a few short months after the landmark Are You Experienced? was released, Jimi and his Experience created another musical triumph in the form of Axis: Bold as Love. While AYE was a solid but somewhat rough sounding collection of mostly road tested tunes like "Purple Haze" and "Fire", ABaL was an absolute marvel of studio-born songs with sound quality that amazes to this day. If you had no knowledge of Hendrix and found yourself listening to Axis, you'd think it was recorded last week instead of 1968.

As per request, here is some older Low. I've only had a chance to listen to this album once so far, but I can say it's definitely worth a listen. I guess their shoegazey sound was a later development though because this album seems like more of a straight indie record. At least it isn't as boring as Drums and Guns. There are a lot more female vocals on this album, which I thought was nice. I'm running out of things to say.

Yes, more Japanese shit. I hope I'm not pigeonholing myself. Anyway, Flower Travellin' Band are a late 60s, early 70s band from Japan. This is an essential rock album from that era in my opinion. As essential as Disraeli Gears or Paranoid or Led Zeppelin. This album also shares a lot of similarities between those three albums. If those three albums needed a gap to bridged, it could be done with this album. Heavy riffs, erratic drumming, and eastern, sitar sounding guitar litter this album. Part 3 has to be my favorite, the main riff has been stuck in my head for days. I was not expecting this album to be as heavy as it was. I super highly recommend this.

All I should really need to tell you is that this is a Jacob Bannon side project featuring Kurt Ballou. For the unitiated, Jacob Bannon and Kurt Ballou are from the band Converge, who if you've never heard of, should really check them out. Though I do understand hardcore is not for everyone, so let me say this, this band is far from anything Converge has ever recorded. It's far less in your face, a lot mellower, no screaming vocals, hardly any vocals at all actually, just on one song I think. It's definitely a surprise to hear this kind of music coming from key members of such a seminal hardcore metal band, but this is proof of their versatility.

Axcraft was a mid-'70s band from California around whom legends were built. Originally recorded for Bill Holmes' All American Records label, Dancing Madly Backwards was never officially released, but an acetate of the album made its way onto the collector's market, causing quite a stir. The sound of the band was progressive hard rock and many who heard it thought they were a British band. In the genre of such bands as Yes, Gentle Giant, Strawbs, Wishbone Ash, or many more similarly styled acts. Contained here are the original five songs (all clocking in at over five minutes!) from the acetate, which was recorded at United Audio in Tustin, California, together with two bonus live tracks recorded by the band themselves during their heyday. Officially sanctioned by band members and taken from original tapes supplied by band producer Bill Holmes, who also designed the album cover from original designs, this album is a must for any fans of the '70s progressive music.

Now you may ask yourself why would a Canadian band be playing in support of Barack Obama? But if you dig deeper you will find out that Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler was born and raised in Texas as was his brother Will. Régine Chassagne holds dual US-Canadian citizenship and her father fought in Vietnam. ONly four members of the band will be playing at the two gigs. Win & Will Butler, Régine Chassagne and Jeremy Gara. The first concert will take place this Sunday March 2 at Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville, Ohio, it is free of charge and has no age limit. THe show is at 7 p.m. and is first come first serve. The second show will also be free and will be at at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland the following day on March 3 at 7 p.m. but will be only 18 & over allowed and first come first serve. Biker Mice from Mars is an animated television series created by Rick Ungar that began airing in 1993 in the United States and lasted for three seasons before it was cancelled. It is about three anthropomorphic mice motorcyclists named Throttle, Modo, and Vinnie who escaped a war on their home planet Mars. They eventually end up crash landing on Earth in the city of Chicago. There they meet a charming female mechanic named Charlene "Charley" Davidson and discover that the Plutarkians have come to Earth to exploit its natural resources. The Plutarkians are a smelly humanoid fish-like race who exploit other planets for natural resources because they have wasted all of their own. The Plutarkians have already caused massive devastation on Mars that resulted in the death of most of the Martian mice population and the near-destruction of Martian flora and fauna. The biker mice discover that Chicago's leading industrialist, Lawrence Limburger, is actually a Plutarkian who disguises himself as a human. Limburger enlists the aid of villains like the sadistic mad scientist Dr. Karbunkle and the idiotic Greasepit to help him steal Earth's natural resources and send them to Plutark. However, he witnesses the eventual foiling of his plans (and the destruction of his building) by the biker mice at the end of almost each episode.

Popeye the Sailor is a comic strip character, later featured in popular animated cartoons. He was created by Elzie Crisler Segar[1], and first appeared in the King Features comic strip Thimble Theater on January 17, 1929.

Popeye quickly became the main focus of the strip, which was one of King Features’ most popular strips during the 1930s. Thimble Theater, carried on after Segar’s death in 1938 by artists such as Bud Sagendorf, was renamed Popeye in the 1970s. Today drawn by Hy Eisman, Popeye continues to appear in first-run strips in Sunday papers (daily Popeye strips are reruns of older strips).

In 1933, Max and Dave Fleischer’s Fleischer Studios adapted the Thimble Theater characters into a series of Popeye the Sailor theatrical cartoon shorts for Paramount Pictures. These cartoons proved to be among the most popular of the 1930s, and Popeye at one time rivaled Mickey Mouse for popularity among audiences.

After Paramount assumed control of the Fleischer Studio in 1942, they continued producing the series until 1957. Later Popeye cartoons were produced for television from 1960 to 1962 by King Features, and from 1978 to 1982 and 1987 to 1988 by Hanna-Barbera Productions (now owned by Warner Brothers).
