Event-Based Programming: Taking Events to the Limit
Publisher: Apress; 1 edition (2006-05-01) | 1590596439 | PDF | 700Pages
This book introduces Signal Wiring diagrams and shows how to use them effectively to describe an event-based system.†When introducing a new programming paradigm, one of the greatest challenges is demonstrating its application to common development scenarios.
Simple examples are appropriate to explain many of the details, but are too narrow to convey the larger picture. To show the more spectacular features of event-based programming, this book has three complete case studies that show the design, documentation, implementation, and testing of real-world programs - a desktop application, a multithreaded communication service, and a distributed manufacturing system.

Pro Perl Debugging
Apress; 1 edition (March 14, 2003) | 1590594541 | PDF | 296Pages
Combining the best features of C, UNIX utilities, and regular expressions, Perl has grown as one of the most powerful and popular scripting languages. The valuable Perl is often used for system administration, text processing and Web programming. It is even being used for more exotic areas, like bioinformatics. Perl is supported by all of the most prominent operating systems, including Windows, Unix, OS/2, Amiga, and others.
Pro Perl Debugging steps in to help resolve the dilemma of application testing and debugging–one of the biggest time commitments in a programmer’s daily routine. What this book will do is rescue you from substandard application testing practices. The book commences with several chapters that overview the debugger’s basic features, then covers common debugging scenarios. The concluding portion examines debugger customization, alternative debugging utilities, and debugging best practices.

Oxford Handbook of Genitourinary Medicine, HIV, and AIDS
Author:Richard Pattman, Michael Snow, Pauline Handy, K. Nathan Sankar, Babiker Elawad
Publisher:Oxford University Press, USA | Pages:580 | 2005-08-23 | ISBN: 0198520778 | CHM
Genitourinary medicine (GUM) is an expanding specialty which is primarily related to the treatment and prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). A number of GUM departments also offer other sexual health services such as contraception, sexual dysfunction and health promotion.
Services are provided by multidisciplinary teams which include doctors, nurses, health advisers (who carry out partner notification and counselling), receptionists, laboratory staff and secretarial support. ‘The Oxford Handbook of Genitourinary Medicine HIV and AIDS’ provides evidence-based, practical information on the specialty, covering medico-legal, ethical, and procedural issues. The first section deals with routine management, special situations and clinical and laboratory processes. The second section covers genitourinary conditions in a disease-orientated style, including sexually transmitted diseases and other genitourinary problems. The third section on HIV provides a contemporary epidemiological overview of this infection, basic viral biology and pathogenesis, a disease-orientated description of conditions both directly related and opportunistic, and their management, and data on special situations such as pregnancy. Aimed primarily at specialist doctors, trainees and nurses in genitourinary medicine and infectious diseases, the book also appeals to general practitioners and interested medical students.

The Oxford Handbook for the Foundation Programme is the first book to be written for doctors on the new UK Foundation Programme. It has been written by junior doctors with specific reference to the different style of training offered by the new changes in postgraduate education. It is the most useful book you can carry during the critical first two years after medical school.
As you start your job it will guide you through your on-call emergencies, day-to-day ward life and specialty attachments whilst helping you adapt to your career, get the most out of your job and choose a specialty. It contains the simple factual guidance you’d expect from an Oxford Handbook. The clinical sections are arranged by symptom and have a clear, step-by-step format for the emergency management of your patients…The clinical sections are arranged by symptom and have a clear, step-by-step format for the emergency management of your patients. This book gives you the best questions to ask for the history, tells you what to look for in examination, and guides you to the correct diagnosis and treatment. This presentation-based approach ensures you can offer the best treatment for your patients, whose diagnoses often aren’t clear at first. A practical, ward-based approach is taken for common on-call problems - including sliding scales, warfarin dosing, and falls. The specialty sections range from A and E to urology, highlighting the important differences in approach, with a succinct guide to the management of common specialist conditions. Also covered are practical procedures ranging from cannulation to chest drains, outlining indications, equipment and the actual procedure. Wherever possible, hints for success have been included. Interpretation of investigation results includes the ECG, CXR and blood tests, providing a quick reference scheme invaluable for years to come. The book ends with the common drug doses that all doctors should know, but sometimes need to double check. The Oxford Handbook for the Foundation Programme also contains a non-clinical section tackling issues from interview technique to tax assessment. It includes all relevant addresses and website references to help you find the information you need.
