Product Description
This book focuses exclusively on the application of PowerPoint to the creation of online training programs. Better than Bullet Points, Creating Engaging e-Learning with PowerPoint fills that gap. By providing in-depth guidance, specific instructions, and helpful exercises, the book will enable training practitioners to create impactful learning interactions in PowerPoint. The author steps readers through the powerful features of this popular desktop application, covering everything from text to art, animation to interactivity. Provided that the reader owns a copy of PowerPoint, this book will immediately put free real-world tools into the hands of those who need it. The information is practical rather than theoretical and immediately applicable. Most importantly, this book will help make e-learning accessible to those who have previously been excluded from taking advantage of the opportunities e-learning can provide.
Jane Bozarth is the e-learning coordinator for the North Carolina Office of State Personnel's Human Resource Development Group and has been a training practitioner since 1989. She is a columnist for Training Magazine and has written for numerous publications including Creative Training Techniques Newsletter and the Journal of Educational Technology and Society.

Learn to leverage Powerpoint® to create superior training programs!
Better Than Bullet Points offers a practical guide for tapping into the force of PowerPoint and PowerPoint-based authoring tools (such as Articulate® or Adobe Presenter®) to create effective and memorable e-learning programs. Perfect for front-line trainers as well as instructional designers, this book includes step-by-step instructions and exercises for creating successful, compelling learning interactions. Better Than Bullet Points offers a wealth of information for harnessing the powerful features of PowerPoint, including everything from animation to tracking tools.
Praise for Better Than Bullet Points
"Rather than purchasing expensive software, dedicated for e-learning, Better Than Bullet Points advocates using a tool that most of us already have, saving time and money without the cost of re-training. The benefits of combining PowerPoint and proven instructional design principles are refreshing: a clearer message and targeted training that can stand on its own."
—Diane D. Chapman, teaching assistant professor and director, Training and Development Online Program, Department of Adult & Higher Education, North Carolina State University
"Jane Bozarth again shows us how to maximize resources and time while getting results. In her typical straight-shooting style, the author demonstrates that quality e-learning comes from good design, not expensive tools and software. Our own organization has achieved great success with her common-sense approaches—and now yours can, too."
—Thom Wright, director, North Carolina Office of State Personnel
"PowerPoint ranks very high in our 'top 100 tools for learning.' It is a powerful tool yet it is not exploited as much as it could be for learning purposes. This book will show you how to get the most out of it."
—Jane Hart, Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies
"Jane Bozarth's guide Better Than Bullet Points explains the power of graphic choices, treatments, hotspots, and hyperlinks. She suggests ways to replicate games and simulations, to handle multimedia files, and to create a good GUI using the Slide Master. Readers will see how to blend their e-learning with other training systems and make it available
to all their learners."
—Karen Hyder, online speaker coach and event producer, The eLearning Guild

Use Powerpoint more effectively in e-learning4
The purpose of the book is simple---to point out how we can use PowerPoint to make e-leanring more effective.
The material covers some pretty basic stuff (for people with some powerpoint experience) as well as teaching some tools that are not covered in standard powerpoint training (animation, making powerpoint interactive, narration, multi-media, other add-ons).
There are also sections on design and delivery and support. The CD provides some good examples and templates.
The user can get a lot of milage from this material, but it's not (and is not intended to be) a substitute for responsvieness, good design and a lot of hard work. Great for folks on a budget or who don't have a lot programming support for or access to more advanced applications.
Loved it!5
I loved this book. Jane Bozarth is informative, without being too wordy. I loved that she included info for both PowerPoint 2003 & 2007 since many of us are just making the transition. I got a lot of good ideas from this book that will work well for just-in-time training, as well as for certain special presentation situations. Thanks, Jane!!!
Revitalize Your Online Training5
This is a great book for the trainer who needs to create a quality rapid elearning product but doesn't have the time or budget for expensive tools. Ms. Bozarth really knows the program and she has some great tips on how to create compelling animations and engaging content. Team this up with the tools from Wondershare and you will be able to create some amazing elearning.

Great Jumpstart for Newcomers To SharePoint Designer4
SharePoint Designer Tutorial. SharePoint Designer Tutorial is a straightforward hands on book targeted at the SharePoint Designer novice looking for a frills approach to becoming productive with SharePoint Designer. Focusing on building a business site in SharePoint with the aid of Designer, SharePoint Designer Tutorial walks you through a series of hands on exercises that when followed from end to end will help you not only build a robust site but will furthermore help you gain the skills to re-use in extending your SharePoint solutions. Concise and to the point at 166 pages the book is a great jumpstart for anyone looking to get comfortable with SharePoint Designer.
Not sure who this book is for.2
Got this book to review to see if it was worthwhile for our end users, so my review is focused on that.
The book spends the first half going into basic what are the toolbars, what is HTML, CSS, etc. The stuff every new user book contains.
The examples are good, full of pictures and simple step processes. The examples are simple and make no real use of Sharepoint vs any web server, with the end result being a page for a wine company using master pages and displaying a table with wines and prices, hardcoded.
Good information for someone who wants to create their own pages above what the Edit Page provides.
After that it starts getting bad where the users are given examples where they need to install web parts and that they need to edit the web.config and configuring MS-Exchange. At that point we have passed the point of end user getting extra capability out for Sharepoint and gone into advanced computer user who have installed sharepoint, are familiar with web.config and other such configuration files.
Other bad items.
The previous wine page is gone and all example, like display the wine from a sharepoint list just do it to a blank page. There is a difference from making your site not look like Sharepoint to ignoring master pages and other functionaly that user expect from a Sharepoint page.
Workflows rate around 2 pages with a simple if this person edits an item send email but this is just shown not really exampled.
Example to display data are simple, with a simple example of conditional formating, xpath, and other items dealing with displaying data in lists.
There is no coverage about modifing the New form and Edit form for lists.
From the stand point of giving this to advanced end users and hoping I stop getting requests to do simple things like display a list with conditional formating I don't see this book helping them or me with that. The text and demos on the Microsoft site do a better job.

Welcome to Microsoft Windows Vista On Demand, a visual quick reference book that shows you how to work efficiently with Windows Vista. This book provides complete coverage of basic to advanced Vista skills.
How This Book Works
You don't have to read this book in any particular order. We've designed the book so that you can jump in, get the information you need, and jump out. However, the book does follow a logical progression from simple tasks to more complex ones. Each task is presented on no more than two facing pages, which lets you focus on a single task without having to turn the page. To find the information that you need, just look up the task in the table of contents or index, and turn to the page listed. Read the task introduction, follow the step-by-step instructions in the left column along with screen illustrations in the right column, and you're done.
What's New
If you're searching for what's new in Windows Vista, just look for the icon: New!. The new icon appears in the table of contents and through out this book so you can quickly and easily identify a new or improved feature in Windows Vista. A complete description of each new feature appears in the New Features guide in the back of this book.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Most menu commands have a keyboard equivalent, such as Ctrl+P, as a quicker alternative to using the mouse. A complete list of keyboard shortcuts is available on the Web at http://www.perspection.com.
Step-by-Step Instructions
This book provides concise step-by-step instructions that show you "how" to accomplish a task. Each set of instructions include illustrations that directly correspond to the easy-to-read steps. Also included in the text are timesavers, tables, and sidebars to help you work more efficiently or to teach you more in-depth information. A "Did You Know?" provides tips and techniques to help you work smarter, while a "See Also" leads you to other parts of the book containing related information about the task.
Real World Examples
This book uses real world examples files to give you a context in which to use the task. By using the example files, you won't waste time looking for or creating sample files. You get a start file and a result file, so you can compare your work. Not every topic needs an example file, such as changing options, so we provide a complete list of the example files used through out the book. The example files that you need for project tasks along with a complete file list are available on the Web at http://www.perspection.com.
Workshop
This book shows you how to put together the individual step-by-step tasks into indepth projects with the Workshop. You start each project with a sample file, work through the steps, and then compare your results with project results file at the end. The Workshop projects and associated files are available on the Web at http://www.perspection.com.
Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist
This book prepares you for the Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist (MCAS) exam for Microsoft Windows Vista. Each MCAS certification exam has a set of objectives, which are organized into broader skill sets. To prepare for the certification exam, you should review and perform each task identified with a MCAS objective to confirm that you can meet the requirements for the exam. Throughout this book, content that pertains to an objective is identified with the following MCAS logo and objective number next to it.

Looks good for procedurally-oriented people4
I thumbed through this book in a bookstore yesterday. It looks as if it would be very helpful to people who think procedurally and like a book to be organized into a set of procedures for doing specific tasks. For others I recommend David Pogue's book Windows Vista: The Missing Manual. This is a superb book that always answered the questions that the other four Vista books I bought all failed to answer.Windows Vista: The Missing Manual

Excellent Vista Media Center Reference5
Complete coverage of everything 'Vista Media Center'. Includes insights on companion items and helpful hints on their function / value. It has answered all my questions and more. Writen in an easy to follow style with lots of screen shots. Excellent basic, intermediate, advanced skill level coverage.
Not for experianced PC users, great if you never touched a PC before2
Really not much in here that you cannot discover on your own in a couple hours of playing around in vista. Save your money and do alittle reseach online. If you know next to nothing about PC's than a good book to start you off. Otherwise full of common sense stuff, almost everything in here is cut and pasted from Microsofts website.

broad and deep, but not quite up to date4
I teach IMS courses for 6 years now. This is my favorite book. It's a good introduction to IMS and covers many topics in suffcient detail.
Still IMS is evolving fast and you have to check with the specs for the latest updates and changes.
A well written, easy to read reference on IMS5
A good and thorough intoduction to IMS and SIP. Easy to read and written in a manner that the book can be re-read over and over again. Has detailed examples on SIP Call flows with sufficient explanations. The book also acts as a bridge for some of us who are unfamiliar with mobile/cellular networks.
Hopefully the book will be updated with each revision of IMS.
Congratulations to the author.
A must have if you start with IMS5
Possibly the best technical book I've ever read.
I work with IMS technology and we use the book in our department to introduce IMS to newcomers. But I also work in European projects on IMS and the book is the main reference for most of the other teams involved.
You just need this book and the 3GPP specifications for anything you want to do with IMS.
