The aim of this popular science text is to explain aerodynamic and astrodynamic flight without the use of mathematics, in an informal style, for non-technical readers who are interested in spaceflight and spacecraft.

The book will open with a concise introductory chapter, chronicling the 'space age' up to the present, and a brief 'forward look' into near-future developments. Chapter 2 provides the historical context upon which the current developments in spaceflight have been built. Orbital motion will be introduced in Chapter 3, and how to get there using launch vehicles is addressed in Chapter 4. Chapters 5 and 6 look at how spacecraft are designed, and Chapter 7 addresses the additional design constraints imposed if the spacecraft has a human crew on board. Chapter 8 gives examples of current and proposed spacecraft missions, both Earth orbiting and interplanetary. Chapter 9 will look at near future manned flight developments - for example, a mission to Mars and/or space tourism. The book closes with a concluding chapter, which reflects on prospects for the future of robotic and manned space exploration.

The Church of England is dying, says Callum Brown, in The Death of Christian Britain. So, what's new? The difference, according to the Scottish historian, is in how long it's taken to reach the point of no return. Secularization theory, which emerged with the social sciences in the 19th century, was obsessed with the numbers of people not attending church. As the Industrial Revolution spread, Christians seized upon these numbers to illustrate how godforsaken our cities were becoming. Yet Brown argues this "authorized version" is mistaken. According to him, secularization began when the Beatles were releasing their first single in 1962. Instead of counting heads, he draws on anecdotal and cultural references to argue that Christianity was alive and well until the Swinging '60s. It just wasn't going to church....

Reason, and the need to Be Rational, are essential dimensions of society and the organizations we live and work in. Yet the "rationalization" of working and administrative processes, or the "rationality" studied in social sciences, is all too often, used, understood, and interpreted in an extremely narrow sense.
Reason's Neglect does three things. Firstly, it argues that rationality is a leitmotif of organization studies, but one that has often been neglected. Secondly, it deploys Foucault's work to recover the neglected dimensions of rationality. In doing this, it allows for a revisionary exploration of key subjects in organization studies: organization theory, bureaucracy, technology, culture, practice, etc. Finally, the book presents the case of new rational management techniques being introduced in an organization, allowing individuals to 'speak for themselves', and examining how they respond to these innovations, and how they make sense of them.
