The first issue of Nuts & Volts was published in 1980. It was originally designed as a newsprint, all advertising publication that was mostly given away. Over the next few years, the magazine continued to grow in readership and advertising, however, not much changed until February 1992 when NV was changed to a tabloid format and started to make the shift to a more content-oriented publication. New editorial features were added along with monthly columns and projects for electronics DIYers. How is it that an entire industry could take something that people inherently love and turn it into something they barely tolerate? That’s what’s been going on in the grocery industry for the past 50 years. People love to shop and yet don’t love to shop for groceries.
What’s to love? Most of the stores are messy, the help is surly and the selection is at once lacking, overwhelming and worst of all, predictable. Looking in from the outside, grocery appears to be the craziest business on earth. Shoppers would love nothing more than to love to shop for groceries. And the thing is, it would not be all that difficult to make grocery stores more lovable. Better lighting. Faster checkouts. Clerks who smile.
It’s not as though grocers would have to blow themselves up or try to replicate Stew Leonard’s or Wegman’s (although that would be nice). In fact, their model could be as simple as that of Amelia’s Grocery Outlet. Amelia’s is a so-called “salvage grocer” that trades in goods that are either damaged, discontinued or past their sell-by dates.
Don’t laugh — Amelia’s same-store sales were up 12 percent last year, about twice the rate of Kroger. The reason isn’t just the low prices. What shoppers say they love about Amelia’s is that you just never know what you’re going to find there. When you get down to it, isn’t that what we love most about shopping? So, surprise us. Pleasantly. Show us you understand who we are, what we want and what we need. We could learn to love grocery shopping yet.

The Philadelphia Trumpet is a monthly news magazine published by the Philadelphia Church of God (PCG). Its editor-in-chief is currently Gerald Flurry, who is also the leader of the PCG and characterizes the magazine as a successor to The Plain Truth magazine when it was under the aegis of the Worldwide Church of God.
The only advertisements in the magazine are for various pamphlets and booklets published by the PCG, for the Armstrong College Bible Correspondence Course, and a list of broadcast times for The Key of David.
The magazine reports on worldwide events as seen through the filter of Armstrongism as taught by the PCG. The bias of the magazine is decidedly conservative (for example, the December 2006 issue characterized the Democratic victory in Congress as a "dangerous turn for America"). It has also been criticized for allegedly anti-semitic, anti-islamic and racist editorials.

The Computer Crime and Security Survey is conducted by CSI annually. The aim of this effort is to raise the level of security awareness, as well as help determine the scope of computer crime in the United States.
For the past five years, this survey—perhaps the most widely quoted set of statistics in the industry—has shown a drop in average estimated losses due to cybercrime. This year, however, the tide has turned and respondents have reported a significant upswing.
Because this is the longest-running survey in the information security field, it’s possible to see that losses climbed steadily before the loss numbers began to fall in 2002. The losses at their peak were still dramatically higher than they are this year. The drop from that peak came as a surprise to many and indeed no small amount of reflection has been invested in sorting out just how it could be that security practitioners thought they were losing less and less money.

Beijing 2008: Official Magazine of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

The 2008 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, were awarded to Beijing, China after an exhaustive ballot of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on July 13, 2001. The games will be celebrated from August 8, 2008 to August 24, 2008, with the opening ceremony commencing at 08:08pm and 08 seconds.
Some events, including football (soccer), sailing, and new 10 km swimming marathon events will be held in other cities of China. With the equestrian events being held in Hong Kong, this marks the second time the same edition of the Olympic Games has been hosted by two National Olympic Committees (NOCs).
The official logo of the games, titled "Dancing Beijing," features a stylized calligraphic character jīng (京, meaning capital), referencing the host city. The mascots of Beijing 2008 are the five Fuwa (formerly known as the "friendlies"), each representing one color of the Olympic rings. The motto of the Games is "One World, One Dream." The games will consist of 302 events in 28 sports, just one event more than the Athens games of 2004. In addition to new events, several new NOCs that may compete at the games have been recognized by the IOC.

Madonna Sex Pictures By Steven Meisel

Madonna's infamous coffee table photo-book, simply called 'Sex', shocked the world when it was released worldwide on October 21, 1992. Madonna, already best-known for her controversial tendencies, broke all boundaries with this book - no other mainstream artist had revealed him- or herself in such ways before.
All photgraphs were taken by Steven Meisel. It's no surprise that Meisel was responsible for taking the pictures as he had a very close friendship with Madonna and they obviously both inspired eachother very much. He was also responsible for the cover of Madonna's 1984 album Like A Virgin and photographed most of Madonna's photos in the early '90s. Meisel was in the '90s what Herb Ritts was to Madonna in the '80s as they both created some of the most iconic and memorable photos of Madonna.
All text appearing in the book is written by Madonna herself, however most of it is written from the point-of-view from the ficitional character Dita (inspired by silent film star Dita Parlo) - a character appearing several times in Madona's work in the years 1992 and 1993. As Dita, she writes about her feelings, longings and her lust for sex. Mostly this is written in a letter-style to a fictional character called Johnny.
Everything was and still is special about this book: It came packaged in a sealed silver mylar-wrapping showing an image of Madonna. The book itself comes with spiralbounded metalcovers with the word 'Sex' embossed on the front and a punched 'X' on the back. Each copy of the book comes with an individual embossed number on the back. Also enclosed with the book is a Photo-Comic called 'Dita in the Chelsea Girl' and a CD Promo-Copy of the song Erotic (which is a remix of Erotica featuring alternate lyrics).
Other celebrities featured in the book are (selection): Isabella Rossellini, Udo Kier, Naomi Campbell, Ingrid Casares, Joey Stefano, Big Daddy Kane, Tony Ward and Rapper Vanilla Ice.
Several organizations tried to boycott the sale of the book but it still managed to sell a stunning 150'000 copies in one day just in the USA. All 1.5 Million copies of the book were sold out worldwide in just a couple of days making it the worldwide most successful coffe table book every released!
The book is long out-of-print and therefore a sought-after collector's item nowadays. It's often difficult to find a copy in good condition so collector's have to pay between US$ 150-200 for a good copy. Of course the 'Sex'-Book is a must-have item for every serious Madonna-Fan and Collector!

Founded in 1933 as United States News, it merged with World Report in 1948. The magazine's founder, David Lawrence (1888–1973), sold it to his employees. In 1984, it was purchased by Mortimer Zuckerman, who is also the owner of the New York Daily News.
