J.R. Dobbs, The SubGenius Foundation, Rev. Ivan Stang “The Book of the SubGenius : The Sacred Teachings of J.R. 'Bob' Dobbs" Fireside | 1987-05-15 | ISBN:0671638106 | PDF | 192 pages | 18 Mb
Divine obfuscation has a purpose. This is the classic that ushered in so many imitators, imitators who did not get "it." "It" is slack, the desiderata that cannot be desired and is only attainable through "Bob," the evil god/male model who founded the Church of the SubGenius without bothering to "exist." If you read this holy book properly, you will learn to "pull the wool over your own eyes." While this volume may seem hilarious, it's also an incredibly adept deconstruction of religion in general and the human impulse to believe in and follow anyone who promises to give their lives meaning and structure. Plus, it's the only place to find the information you need to survive when the bad alien gods come out of the sky to kill, enslave, and entertain us. If you don't already have a copy, then hand in your hipness ID card and hang your head in shame.

Richard P. Gabriel “Writers' Workshops & the Work of Making Things: Patterns, Poetry... " Pearson Education | 2002-06-17 | ISBN: 020172183X | PDF | 288 pages | 1,2 Mb
For more than 100 years, Writers' Workshops have offered writers deep and generous insights into their own work: insights that have helped them improve, and often inspired them to take their work in exciting new directions. Recently, technical, scientific, and business professionals have also discovered the immense value of the Writers' Workshop format in solving their creative problems. Now, an experienced leader and participant shows how Writers' Workshops work -- and how they can help everyone from poets to software architects. Richard P. Gabriel considers the Writers' Workshop as process, ritual, and experience. He explains what conditions are required to make it work, how to run one, how to participate in one, how to survive one -- and how to use it to further your own work. In the first section of the book, Gabriel introduces a model of writing and the writing process, illuminating the commonalities between writing and other forms of creative expression, such as software development. Next, he draws on the experiences of participants to illuminate every aspect of the Writers' Workshop, including preparation and setting, the author's reading, shepherding, summarization, positive feedback, suggestions for improvement, clarification, and revisions. Work in Progress introduces the Writers' Workshop to a wide new audience, including: new writers who want to improve fast; veteran workshoppers; technical people and scientists; businesspeople seeking to improve collateral material and presentations; and software practitioners.

James Henry Breasted “Ancient Records of Egypt: VOL. 3: The Nineteenth dynasty" University of Illinois Press | 2001-06-20 | ISBN: 0252069757 | PDF | 312 pages | 10,9 Mb
Around the turn of the last century, James Breasted took on the challenge of assembling all the available historical documents of ancient Egypt and translating them into English. This prodigious undertaking involved traveling to the monuments extant in the Nile valley and in outlying areas of Egyptian conquest, as well as to museums throughout Europe where Egyptian relics were housed. Breasted made his own copies of hundreds of Egyptian records inscribed on papyrus or leather or carved in stone and engaged in a thorough study of the published records of Egyptian history in conjunction with his own transcription of the documents themselves. This five-volume compendium is the result.
Breasted's monumental work, originally published from 1906 to 1907, encompasses twenty-six dynasties spanning more than three millennia: from ca. 3050 B.C. to 525 B.C. For each document, Breasted provides information on the location, condition, historical significance, and content. Beginning with the earliest known official annals of Egypt, the Palermo Stone, Breasted catalogs the realm's official activities, including royal succession, temple construction, property distribution, and foreign conquest. He tracks the careers of scores of kings, queens, government officials, military leaders, powerful statesmen, and influential courtiers, reproducing their autobiographies, letters of favor, paeans, mortuary gifts, and tomb inscriptions. Clearly annotated for the lay reader, the documents provide copious evidence of trade relations, construction activities, diplomatic envoys, foreign expeditions, and other aspects of a vigorous, highly organized and centrally controlled society.
Breasted's commentary is both rigorously documented and accessible, suffused with a contagious fascination for the events, the personalities, the cultural practices, and the sophistication these records indicate. A herculean assemblage of primary documents, many of which have deteriorated to illegibility in the intervening century, Ancient Records of Egypt illuminates both the incredible complexity of Egyptian society and the almost insuperable difficulties of reconstructing a lost civilization.
This first paperback edition of Ancient Records of Egypt features a new introduction and updated bibliography by Peter A. Piccione. Setting Breasted's work in the context of the development of American Egyptology, Piccione discusses Breasted's establishment of the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago, with corporate support by John D. Rockefeller and other benefactors, and surveys the ambitious body of publications with which Breasted laid the foundation for future Egyptian studies.

Definitely 5 stars.. Many folks find using a virtual serial port device such as the FTDI FT232R to be an easier way to communicate with embedded systems than using direct USB - though Jan goes a long way to making that easier with her USB Complete book. The Most Progressive and Complete Guide to DDO-Based Ciphers
Developers have long recognized that ciphers based on Permutation Networks (PNs) and Controlled Substitution-Permutation Networks (CSPNs) allow for the implementation of a variety of Data Driven Operations (DDOs). These DDOs can provide fast encryption without incurring excessive hardware costs in modern telecommunication networks. However, until now, with a few exceptions, most DDO-based ciphers have been poorly represented in available literature and have continued to remain known to only a small number of encryption experts.
In Data-Driven Block Ciphers for Fast Telecommunication Systems, Nikolai Moldovyan and Alexander Moldovyan, major innovators and holders of several dozen international patents in encryption technology, provide the background and detail the applicationswireless systems.Furthermore, they propose a universal architecture involving controlled bit permutation instruction that will permit the performance of both data-driven permutations and an arbitrary prescribed fixed permutation in a single cycle. needed to investigate new properties of PNs especially relevant to the improvement of modern
Immediately improved efficiency for current and future fast telecommunication systems and mobile networks
Because of its simplicity and efficient use of current hardware, the embedding of this architecture is a highly attractive option for CPU manufacturers.By detailing all the relevant information into a single volume for the first time, the authors of this book make that option more feasible than ever before.

M.S. Zhdanov (Editor), P.E. Wannamaker (Editor), "Three-Dimensional Electromagnetics"Elsevier Science | ISBN: 044450429X | 1 edition | PDF | 304 pages | 15742 KB
| “ | "3-D modeling and inversion is a reality, and not an illusion." This is the clear conclusion of the Second International Symposium on Three-Dimensional Electromagnetics held at the University of Utah in 1999. Containing papers submitted by 36 authors, this volume, by the sheer number of works, their diversity, and the truly international character of the efforts attests to the vigor with which the problems of the field are pursued today.
The papers in this book are grouped in three parts: 3-D EM modeling; 3-D EM inversion; and 3-D EM in practice. They cover a wide range of topics in forward modeling and inversion based on new fast approximate approaches and new efficient solutions by integral equation, finite difference and finite elements techniques. If the 1980s were the decade of rapid development in 3D seismics, the 1990s became the decade of growing interest of practical geophysicists in 3D EM modeling and inversion methods.
The contributions contained in this volume represent a snapshot of today's state-of-the-art in three-dimensional electromagnetics. | ” |

Data Structures and Algorithms in Java, Second Edition is designed to be easy to read and understand although the topic itself is complicated. Algorithms are the procedures that software programs use to manipulate data structures. Besides clear and simple example programs, the author includes a workshop as a small demonstration program executable on a Web browser. The programs demonstrate in graphical form what data structures look like and how they operate. In the second edition, the program is rewritten to improve operation and clarify the algorithms, the example programs are revised to work with the latest version of the Java JDK, and questions and exercises will be added at the end of each chapter making the book even more useful.
Educational Supplement
Suggested solutions to the programming projects found at the end of each chapter are made available to instructors at recognized educational institutions. This educational supplement can be found at www.prenhall.com, in the Instructor Resource Center.

The Metabarons 05 - "The Snare Of Okhan"
(by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Juan Gimenez)CBZ format | 30 pages | 13.23 MB | English
The Metabarons or The Saga of The Meta-Barons is a science fantasy comic series relating the history of a dynasty of perfect warriors known as the Metabarons. The Metabarons series was written by creator Alejandro Jodorowsky and illustrated by Argentinian artist Juan Gimenez.
Every Metabaron is conceived by his mother in a non-natural way (eg. by cloning or incest). In his youth he is handicapped by his father so that his endurance to pain is tested, and that he receives a powerful mechanical body part as a replacement for the destroyed limb - making every Metabaron a cyborg. The rite of succession is equally as cruel and uncompromising. In each generation, the son and heir must eventually face his father in a battle to the death. These battles have taken many forms, from hand-to-hand combat to dogfighting space duels. The rite of succession is only achieved once the cursed son succeeds in killing his father.

Carl Cavanagh Hodge “Encyclopedia of the Age of Imperialism, 1800-1914 (Two Volumes)" Greenwood Press | 2007-11-30 | ISBN:0313334048 | PDF | 1016 pages | 3,6 Mb
In 1800, Europeans governed about one-third of the world's land surface; by the start of World War I in 1914, Europeans had imposed some form of political or economic ascendancy on over 80 percent of the globe. Frank van Harmelen, «Towards The Semantic Web Ontology Driven Knowledge Management»John Wiley | ISBN: 0470848677 | PDF | 3,33 Mb | 328 Pages | 2003 Year
With the current changes driven by the expansion of the World Wide Web, this book uses a different approach from other books on the market: it applies ontologies to electronically available information to improve the quality of knowledge management in large and distributed organizations. Ontologies are formal theories supporting knowledge sharing and reuse. They can be used to explicitly represent semantics of semi-structured information. These enable sophisticated automatic support for acquiring, maintaining and accessing information. Methodology and tools are developed for intelligent access to large volumes of semi-structured and textual information sources in intra- and extra-, and internet-based environments to employ the full power of ontologies in supporting knowledge management from the information client perspective and the information provider.
The aim of the book is to support efficient and effective knowledge management and focuses on weakly-structured online information sources. It is aimed primarily at researchers in the area of knowledge management and information retrieval and will also be a useful reference for students in computer science at the postgraduate level and for business managers who are aiming to increase the corporations' information infrastructure.

Vincenzo De Risi "Geometry and Monadology (Leibniz's Analysis Situs and Philosophy of Space)" Birkhäuser Basel | 2007-05-21 | ISBN: 3764379855 | PDF | 678 pages | 2,5 Mb
This book reconstructs, from both historical and theoretical points of view, Leibniz's geometrical studies, focusing in particular on the research Leibniz carried out in the last years of his life. It is indeed the first ever comprehensive historical reconstruction of Leibniz's geometry that meets the interests of both mathematicians and philosophers. The main purpose of the work is to offer a better understanding of the Leibnizean philosophy of space and mature metaphysics, through a pressing confrontation with the problems of geometric foundations.
Regarding the scope of these problems, the book also deals in depth with Leibniz's theory of sensibility, thus favouring the comparison and contrast between Leibniz's philosophy and Kant's transcendentalist solution. The Appendix references to a number of previously unpublished manuscripts on geometry from the Leibniz Archiv in Hannover, which disclose new theories, points of view and technicalities of Leibniz's thought.

John D. Williams “The Compleat Strategyst: Being a Primer on the Theory of Games of Strategy " RAND Corporation | 2007-09-25 | ISBN:083304222X | PDF | 304 pages | 7,9 Mb
When The Compleat Strategyst was originally published in 1954, game theory was an esoteric and mysterious subject, familiar only to specialized researchers, particularly in the military. Its prominence today can be traced at least in part to this classic book, which popularized the subject for amateurs, professionals, and students throughout the world. This is a reprint of a 1966 revised edition of the book originally published in 1954.
Review
This entertaining text is essential for anyone interested in game theory. Only a basic understanding of arithmetic is needed to grasp the necessary aspects of strategy games for two, three, four, and more players that feature two or more sets of inimical interests and a limitless array of zero-sum payoffs.

Rena M. Palloff,«The Virtual Student: A Profile and Guide to Working with Online Learners»Jossey-Bass | ISBN: 0787964743 | PDF | 1,52 Mb | 224 Pages | 2003 Year
There is an ongoing debate in the academic world about who is attracted to Tonline learning. It has been assumed that it is predominantly adult learners who take online courses because online learning allows them to continue working full time and attend to their family obligations through the delivery of anytime, anywhere education. The “typical”online student is generally described as being over twenty-five years of age, employed,a caregiver, with some higher education already attained, and equally likely to be either male or female (Gilbert, 2001,p.74).Online students may be nontraditional undergraduate, graduate,or continuing education students.
However, recent statistics published by the National Center for Education Statistics (2002) indicate that interest and enrollment in online courses spans all age groups. As of December 31,1999,65 percent of those age eighteen or younger had enrolled in an online course, indicating the increasing popularity of virtual high school courses.Fifty-seven percent of those considered to be traditional undergraduates, ages nineteen to twenty-three, had enrolled. Those ages twentyfour to twenty-nine enrolled at a rate of 56 percent, and those thirty and older enrolled at a rate of 63 percent. The statistics do agree that fairly equal numbers of men and women are enrolling, and with the exception of American Indians and Alaska Natives (of whom only 45 percent enroll), roughly 60 percent of all races enroll.

Do you ever wonder how to choose a Bible translation to read, study, and memorize? How can you know which translations are faithful to God's Word? In this book Leland Ryken identifies many common translation fallacies. He then clarifies the enduring principles that help make for reliable English translation, insisting that any translation that consistently violates how we deal with language in everyday life cannot be based on the right theory. Ryken's literary expertise gives him a unique perspective to offer standards for comparing contemporary Bible translations and to help you see why some translations may not faithfully render the Word of God into English.

John J. Amoss, Dan Minoli “Handbook of IPv4 to IPv6 Transition: Methodologies for Institutional and Corporate Networks " AUERBACH (December 6, 2007) | ISBN: 0849385164 | PDF | 248 pages | 3,5 Mb
In 2005, the U.S. Government Accountability Office recommended that all agencies begin planning a coherent transition to IPv6. IPv6 will solve the problem of limited IP addresses and improve internetworking capabilities. This promising protocol is gaining momentum and it is only a matter of time before the transition will have to occur globally. The problem is that during the three-to-six year transition period, IPv6 and its predecessor, IPv4, will have to successfully coexist in order to ensure service continuity.
Not only federal agencies, but corporations and institutions must start planning the transition to IPv6 now to maintain the operation, security, and interoperability of their networks.
The implementation of IPv6 is essential to the continued growth of the internet and the development of new applications. The Handbook of IPv4 to IPv6 Transition Methodologies provides a wealth of best practices and procedures that will help corporations plan and implement a smooth transition to IPv6.

Almost everyoneis acquainted with plane Euclidean geometry as it is usually taught in high school. This book introduces the reader to a completely different way of looking at familiar geometrical facts. It is concerned with transformations of the plane that do not alter the shapes and sizes of geometric figures. Such transformations play a fundamental role in the group theoretic approach to geometry.
The treatment is direct and simple. The reader is introduced to new ideas and then is urged to solve problems using these ideas. The problems form an essential part of this book and the solutions are given in detail in the second half of the book.

This thesis is concerned with image communication considering all stages from the beginning to the very end. In order to appropriately handle large raster imagery, the fundamental goal is to reduce the influence of the most limiting factors in mobile environments. In a clear departure from the traditional strategies, this goal is reached by rigorously combining and extending existing approaches to a single communication system aligned to support a certain pre-defined task. To achieve this, the modern imaging standard JPEG2000 serves as a foundation for image compression and streaming. Founded on the concept of Regions of Interest and Levels of Detail to describe current demands at client side, powerful generic strategies for content streaming are proposed. Special attention is also given to the application areas - image browsing, viewer guidance and content exchange. Beside new ideas to accomplish these tasks on application level, detailed statements on the design of the respective communication strategy are provided. The achieved results show that many resources can be saved by an appropriate mobile image communication using JPEG2000.

Recent advances make it possible to deliver high-quality voice and video communications over a wireless LAN (WLAN), replacing costly wired telephone and video surveillance systems and dramatically reducing support costs. However, todays new voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) technologies require fundamentally different skills and techniques from those used in traditional voice and video systems. Now, theres a complete guide to every facet of VoWLAN deployment: planning, design, installation, security, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Authored by wireless industry expert and leader Jim Geier, Deploying Voice over Wireless LANs draws on Geiers extensive experience with real-world VoWLAN deployments. Geier brings together state-of-the-art insights into VoWLAN technologies, standards, products, services, implementation strategies, and much more.
Geier begins by introducing key components of todays VoWLAN systems, including phones, client software, and voice encoders/decoders, as well as VoWLAN signaling essentials such as analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion and compression. Using examples drawn from actual enterprise settings, youll learn exactly how VoWLAN products integrate with existing IP infrastructure.
Next, he introduces crucial emerging 802.11 standards for effective VoWLAN deployment, including 802.11e quality of service (QoS) standards, 802.11r to minimize packet loss between access points, and 802.11k network discovery. He carefully reviews the security implications of VoWLAN voice, systematically covering both risks and countermeasures. Finally, Geier walks through implementation from start to finish, thoroughly covering analysis, design, installation, configuration, testing, and support.
Whatever your role in planning, delivering, managing, or creating wireless voice and video solutions, Deploying Voice over Wireless LANs is your most comprehensive, authoritative resource.
Jim Geier founded Wireless-Nets, Ltd., and serves as its principal consultant. His 25 years of experience includes the analysis, design, software development, installation, and support of numerous wireless networking systems. He has been active within the Wi-Fi Alliance and the IEEE 802.11 Working Group and helped develop international standards for WLANs. No matter how visually appealing or content-packed a Web site may be, if
it's not adaptable to a variety of situations and reaching the widest
possible audience, it isn't really succeeding. In Bulletproof Web
Desing, author and Web designer extraordinaire, Dan Cederholm outlines
standards-based strategies for building designs that provide
flexibility, readability, and user control--key components of every
sucessful site. Each chapter starts out with an example of an
unbulletproof site one that employs a traditional HTML-based approach
which Dan then deconstructs, pointing out its limitations. He then gives
the site a make-over using XHTML and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), so
you can see how to replace bloated code with lean markup and CSS for
fast-loading sites that are accessible to all users. Finally, he covers
several popular fluid and elastic-width layout techniques and pieces
together all of the page components discussed in prior chapters into a
single-page template.

This book presents a unique method for decomposing a computer program
along its execution paths, for simplifying the subprograms so produced,
and for recomposing a program from its subprograms. This method enables
us to divide and conquer the complexity involved in understanding the
computation performed by a program by decomposing it into a set of
subprograms and then simplifying them to the furthest extent possible.
The resulting simplified subprograms are generally more understandable
than the original program as a whole. The method may also be used to
simplify a piece of source code by following the path-oriented method of
decomposition, simplication, and recomposition. The analysis may be
carried out in such a way that the derivation of the analysis result
constitutes a correctness proof. The method can be applied to any source
code (or portion thereof) that prescribes the computation to be
performed in terms of assignment statements, conditional statements, and
loop constructs, regardless of the language or paradigm used.

J. R. R. Tolkien, "BBC: The Lord of the Rings (1999)"Audio Books:BBC Radio Dramatisation | MP3/32Kbps | English | 169MB
| “ | It doesn't get much better than this. In 13 hours the entire story is told in rich and vivid detail that captures the essence of the books more completely than any other version - and I've heard a few... The all-star cast give mesmerising performances with Ian Holm in particularly fine form. If you never read the books, never hear anything else by Tolkien - hear this. Amazon customer, 2 April 2000 | ” |
| “ | I was lent this recording by a friend at the age of 11 and I knew I had to get my own copy as soon as possible. What can I say - the atmosphere of Middle-Earth is conjured up brilliantly with help from a superb soundtrack, and despite others' gripes about the omission of certain chapters, I really do believe that this cannot be bettered. The stunning performances from a cast of Britain's finest actors really make Tolkien's epic tale come alive - the only problem now is that nothing will measure up to it! Much as I am looking forward to the film version, it's just a shame this cast can't be used - each of the actors IS their character as far as I'm concerned, and anyone else just wouldn't seem right... 13 hours of high-class, gripping drama - what more can I say? Tolkien would be proud. (Amazon customer, 30 Oct 2000) | ” |
Originally dramatised by the BBC in 1981 in 26 half-hour stereo installments. In 1999, the 26-part series was subsequently edited into 13 hour-long episodes. The 13-part series was later released as a BBC Radio Collection Audiobook.
This 13-part version was recorded from BBC radio (rerun on Radio 4 in 2002) and issued as a torrent from http://radioarchive.cc.

Afsaneh Haddadi “Communication and Cooperation in Agent Systems: A Pragmatic Theory" Springer | 1996-04-30 | ISBN: 3540610448 | PDF | 148 pages | 7,6 Mb
This book is devoted to the design and analysis of techniques enabling intelligent and dynamic cooperation and communication among agents in a distributed environment. A flexible theoretical formalism is developed in detail and it is demonstrated how this approach can be used for the design of agent architectures in practice. The formal part of this work is based on a variant of the BDI logic introduced by Georgeff and Rao. This book, for the first time, outlines this formalism in some depth. The most important practical benefit provided is the concept of cooperation protocols allowing the representation of various methods of cooperation and possible patterns of dialogue.

Photoshop is not known for it’s easy user interface or help files. There are many tutorial books that take you step-by-step through common tasks, but this is finally the book to let you quickly look up all those little things you can’t remember. The book starts with about 20 pages of step-by-step summaries of common tasks (importing photos, selection techniques, retouching, etc) then the remainder of the book is an alpha listing of every Photoshop feature. Each feature has a consistent format showing a small before and after photo, the menu path for the command, the shortcut key for the command, what versions apply, “see also” and where needed a screen shot of a dialog box. There is no index - it’s not needed. this is a handy size and it stays out now when I am using Photoshop.

The nervous system in the human body carries information from all parts of the organism, even the extremities, to the brain. The information is analysed instantly and a suitable response initiated. What would the world of business be like if every company had a digital nervous system, which gathered data in real time from its internal processes and its external dealings with customers and suppliers? What if the companies could respond at the speed that the human body responds when threatened?
Bill Gates lays out a stunning vision of a Web lifestyle, in which the collection and exchange of information is made as simple as the use of electrical products from the electricity lifestyle.

Scrolls of Love is a book of unions. Edited by a Jew and a Christian who are united by a shared passion for the Bible and a common literary hermeneutic, it joins two biblical scrolls and gathers around them a diverse community of interpreters. It brings together Ruth and the Song of Songs, two seemingly disparate texts of the Hebrew Bible, and reads them through a number of the methodological and theological perspectives. Respectful of traditional biblical scholarship, the collection of essays moves beyond it; alert to contemporary trends, the volume returns venerable interpretive tradition to center stage. Most significantly, it is interfaith.
Despite the fact that Jews and Christians share a common text in the Hebrew Scripture, the two communities have read their Bibles in isolation from one another, in ignorance of the richness of the other's traditions of reading. Scrolls of Love brings the two traditions into dialogue, enriching established modes of interpretation with unconventional ones. The result is a volume that sets rabbinic, patristic, and medieval readings alongside feminist, psychoanalytic, and autobiographical ones, combining historical, literary, and textual criticism with a variety of artistic reinterpretations—wood cuts and paper cuts, poetry and fiction. Some of the works are scholarly, with the requisite footnotes to draw readers to further inquiry: others are more reflective than analytic, allowing readers to see what it means to live intimately with Scripture. As a unity, the collection presents Ruth and Song of Songs not only as ancient texts that deserve to be treasured but as old worlds capable of begetting the new.

Title: Programming Embedded Systems
Description:
If you have programming experience and a familiarity with C--the dominant language in embedded systems--Programming Embedded Systems, Second Edition is exactly what you need to get started with embedded software. This software is ubiquitous, hidden away inside our watches, DVD players, mobile phones, anti-lock brakes, and even a few toasters. The military uses embedded software to guide missiles, detect enemy aircraft, and pilot UAVs. Communication satellites, deep-space probes, and many medical instruments would have been nearly impossible to create without embedded software.
The first edition of Programming Embedded Systems taught the subject to tens of thousands of people around the world and is now considered the bible of embedded programming. This second edition has been updated to cover all the latest hardware designs and development methodologies.
The techniques and code examples presented here are directly applicable to real-world embedded software projects of all sorts. Examples use the free GNU software programming tools, the eCos and Linux operating systems, and a low-cost hardware platform specially developed for this book. If you obtain these tools along with Programming Embedded Systems, Second Edition, you'll have a full environment for exploring embedded systems in depth. But even if you work with different hardware and software, the principles covered in this book apply.
Whether you are new to embedded systems or have done embedded work before, you'll benefit from the topics in this book, which include:
* How building and loading programs differ from desktop or server computers
* Basic debugging techniques--a critical skill when working with minimally endowed embedded systems
* Handling different types of memory
* Interrupts, and the monitoring and control of on-chip and external peripherals
* Determining whether you have real-time requirements, and whether your operating system and application can meet those requirements
* Task synchronization with real-time operating systems and embedded Linux
* Optimizing embedded software for size, speed, and power consumption
* Working examples for eCos and embedded Linux
So whether you're writing your first embedded program, designing the latest generation of hand-held whatchamacalits, or managing the people who do, this book is for you. Programming Embedded Systems will help you develop the knowledge and skills you need to achieve proficiency with embedded software.
Praise for the first edition:
"This lively and readable book is the perfect introduction for those venturing into embedded systems software development for the first time. It provides in one place all the important topics necessary to orient programmers to the embedded development process.

Julie Ratner “Human Factors and Web Development, Second Edition" CRC | 2002-08-01 | ISBN:0805842217 | PDF | 352 pages | 17,5 Mb
Due to the ever-changing technological landscape and the global integration of the Internet in schools, libraries, homes, and businesses, the content of this second edition changed significantly. Since many computer users are connected at both home and work, the Web has transformed communication; consumption patterns; and access to business, politicians, and neighbors halfway around the world. With numerous books on user-friendly Web sites, the editor's challenge was to deliver a volume with a radically different snapshot of the research being conducted at the beginning of the 21st century.
The chapters in this book provide many answers to critical questions and propose thought-provoking research ideas for the future. Corporate and academic practitioners, as well as their doctoral fellows and graduate students from around the globe contributed their time, expertise, and unique research practices. Together, they collectively provide another comprehensive resource that the growing community of human factors and Web development experts can share. The editor's hope is that this book will inspire leading-edge research on accessible Web applications or other topics in the coming years.

Were the Amityville hauntings cynical media manipulation? Is levitation possible? Has Earth been visited by UFOs from other realms? All these questions, and more, are considered in 100 Strangest Mysteries. Paranormal investigator Matt Lamy documents in detail the numerous phenomena and events which can be termed 'mysterious' and cannot be dismissed as mere hysteria or wild imaginings.
It is important to understand what came before and how to meld new products with legacy systems. Network managers need to understand the context and origins of the systems they are using. Programmers need an understanding of the reasons behind the interfaces they must satisfy and the relationship of the software they build to the whole network. And finally, sales representatives need to see the context into which their products must fit.

Vincent S.L. Cheung, Howard Cam H. Luong “Design of Low-Voltage CMOS Switched-Opamp Switched-Capacitor Systems" Springer | 2003-06-30 | ISBN: 1402074662 | PDF | 210 pages | 5,7 Mb
Demand for low-power low-voltage integrated circuits (ICs) has rapidly grown due to the increasing importance of portable equipment in all market segments including telecommunications, computers, and consumer electronics. The need for low-voltage ICs is further motivated by CMOS technology scaling that requires low supply voltages for device reliability. On the other hand, switched-capacitor (SC) circuits, which have been well known for high accuracy and low distortion, have also become increasingly attractive for low-voltage, low-power, and even high-frequency applications. Switched-opamp (SO) technique has been proposed to enable SC circuits to operate with a single 1-V supply in standard CMOS processes without any clock voltage multiplier or low-threshold devices. However, the existing SO technique requires the opamps to turn off after their integrating phases and thus is not suitable for most of the switched-capacitor systems.
In Design of Low-Voltage CMOS Switched-Opamp Switched-Capacitor Systems, the emphasis is put on the design and development of advanced switched-opamp architectures and techniques for low-voltage low-power switched-capacitor (SC) systems. Specifically, the book presents a novel multi-phase switched-opamp technique together with new system architectures that are critical in improving significantly the performance of switched-capacitor systems at low supply voltages:
*A generic fast-settling double-sampling SC biquadratic filter architecture is proposed to achieve high-speed operation for SC circuits.
*A low-voltage double-sampling (DS) finite-gain-compensation (FGC) technique is employed to realize high-resolution SD modulator using only low-DC-gain opamps to maximize the speed and to reduce power dissipation.
*A family of novel power-efficient SC filters and SD modulators are built based on using only half-delay SC integrators.
*Single-opamp-based SC systems are designed for ultra-low-power applications. In addition, on the circuit level, a fast-switching methodology is proposed for the design of the switchable opamps to achieve switching frequency up to 50 MHz at 1V, which is improved by about ten times compared to the prior arts.
Finally, detailed design considerations, architecture choices, and circuit implementation of five chip prototypes are presented to illustrate potential applications of the proposed multi-phase switched-opamp technique to tackle with and to achieve different stringent design corners such as high-speed, high-integration-level and ultra-low-power consumption at supply voltages of 1V or lower in standard CMOS processes.

Description: Assertion-based IP is much more than a comprehensive set of related assertions. It is a full-fledged reusable and configurable transaction-level verification component, which is used to detect both interesting and incorrect behaviors. Upon detecting interesting or incorrect behavior, the assertion-based IP alerts other verification components within a simulation environment, which are responsible for taking appropriate action. The focus of this book is to bring the assertion discussion up to a higher level and introduce a process for creating effective, reusable, assertion-based IP, which easily integrates with the users existing verification environment, in other words the testbench infrastructure.
The guiding principles promoted in this book when creating an assertion-based IP monitor are:
modularityassertion-based IP should have a clear separation between detection and action
clarityassertion-based IP should be written initially focusing on capturing intent (versus optimizations)
A unique feature of this book is the fully worked out, detailed examples. The concepts presented in the book are drawn from the authors experience developing assertion-based IP, as well as general assertion-based techniques. Creating Assertion-Based IP is an important resource for design and verification engineers.

John Maxwell reminds us that even in a modern world, the greatest inspiration is still found within the pages of the Old Testament. In Running with the Giants, Maxwell brings those great personalities to life. David would remind us how to overcome adversity. Noah would tell us not to fear doing the impossible. And Rebekah would urge us to give and serve generously. Each of these and the many other biblical figures Maxwell examines can motivate believers toward their personal best in the marathon of life.

Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There, 1871). Varias adaptaciones cinematográficas combinan elementos de ambos libros.

Description: This book presents a unique method for decomposing a computer program along its execution paths, for simplifying the subprograms so produced, and for recomposing a program from its subprograms. This method enables us to divide and conquer the complexity involved in understanding the computation performed by a program by decomposing it into a set of subprograms and then simplifying them to the furthest extent possible. The resulting simplified subprograms are generally more understandable than the original program as a whole. The method may also be used to simplify a piece of source code by following the path-oriented method of decomposition, simplication, and recomposition. The analysis may be carried out in such a way that the derivation of the analysis result constitutes a correctness proof. The method can be applied to any source code (or portion thereof) that prescribes the computation to be performed in terms of assignment statements, conditional statements, and loop constructs, regardless of the language or paradigm used.

Description: No matter how visually appealing or content-packed a Web site may be, if it's not adaptable to a variety of situations and reaching the widest possible audience, it isn't really succeeding. In Bulletproof Web Desing, author and Web designer extraordinaire, Dan Cederholm outlines standards-based strategies for building designs that provide flexibility, readability, and user control--key components of every sucessful site. Each chapter starts out with an example of an unbulletproof site one that employs a traditional HTML-based approach which Dan then deconstructs, pointing out its limitations. He then gives the site a make-over using XHTML and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), so you can see how to replace bloated code with lean markup and CSS for fast-loading sites that are accessible to all users. Finally, he covers several popular fluid and elastic-width layout techniques and pieces together all of the page components discussed in prior chapters into a single-page template.

Since the 1980s, the Thakali of Nepal have searched for an identity and a clarification of their "true" culture and history in the wake of their rise to political power and achievement of economic success. Although united in this search, the Thakali are divided as to the answers that have been proposed: the "Hinduization" of religious practices, the promotion of Tibetan Buddhism, the revival of practices associated with the Thakali shamans, and secularization.
Ironically, the attempts by the Thakali to define their identity reveal that to return to tradition they must first re-create it -- but this process of re-creation establishes it in a way in which it has never existed. To return to "tradition" -- to become Thakali again -- is, in a way, to become Thakali for the very first time.

AutoCAD 2008 and AutoCAD LT 2008 Bible with Full DVD - 110 MbThis is the eighth edition of the popular AutoCAD reference-tutorial, the AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT Bible, by Ellen Finkelstein. Because of its comprehensive coverage, it is very popular among both novice and experienced users. Even some of the employees at Autodesk keep this book at their workstations. Coverage of AutoCAD LT–an inexpensive, “light?version of AutoCAD–is also incorporated throughout the book. The book begins with a Quick Start tutorial, so that even beginners will be doing exciting work with AutoCAD on their very first day. The chapters begin with the basics of creating drawings, using commands, and specifying coordinates. Finkelstein builds on this these chapters to cover more complex 2D and 3D drawing techniques, including using layers, creating dimensions, 3D coordinates, solids, and rendering. Finally, the book discusses advanced topics such as customization of commands and toolbars, and programming AutoCAD using AutoLISP and VBA. A CD-ROM contains before and after drawings for each tutorial. All of these real-world drawings have been collected from AutoCAD professionals.
This is the DVD minus the trial software which gives you the e-book in .pdf format and all the drawing files for all the exercises. There are before and after drawings so that you may check and verify that everything you did was correct. The net result is an ISO of about 137MB

R is rapidly growing in popularity as the environment of choice for data analysis and graphics both in academia and industry. Lattice brings the proven design of Trellis graphics (originally developed for S by William S. Cleveland and colleagues at Bell Labs) to R, considerably expanding its capabilities in the process. Lattice is a powerful and elegant high level data visualization system that is sufficient for most everyday graphics needs, yet flexible enough to be easily extended to handle demands of cutting edge research. Written by the author of the lattice system, this book describes it in considerable depth, beginning with the essentials and systematically delving into specific low levels details as necessary. No prior experience with lattice is required to read the book, although basic familiarity with R is assumed. The book contains close to 150 figures produced with lattice. Many of the examples emphasize principles of good graphical design; almost all use real data sets that are publicly available in various R packages. All code and figures in the book are also available online, along with supplementary material covering more advanced topics.

Designing Mobile Service Systems (Research in Design Series)IOS Press | ISBN:1586037781 | 248 pages | September 15, 2007 | PDF | 2 Mb
This publication is the second in the Research in Design series. Design is an effort that enjoys a growing attention in the academic world. At Delft University of Technology design is a recognized part of science. Like other technical universities, Delft is rooted in the engineering field. And in spite of questions like 'what is design', 'what is engineering' and 'what is science', which can be debated in long sessions, and differences that are hard to explain, it is possible to feel the differences. In this book the authors contribute to the development of a design language for the service domain. In general the engineering discipline is expanding into a field that embraces perspectives of more disciplines and actors, next to the engineer who is responsible for the artifact. The first volume in this Research in Design Series stresses the stakeholder oriented approach in the domain of architecture and urban planning (Binnekamp, van Gunsteren, & van Loon, 2006). The domain in this volume is services. This is a field in which the involvement of different stakeholders with different interests in the design process is particularly a critical success factor.

Lighting Modern Buildings
Architectural Press | 248 pages | 2000 | PDF | 14.72 MBThis is an important book, written by one of the top lighting designers in the country. Written at the end of a career as an architect and lighting designer, the book draws on the experience gained while living through a period of intense lighting development, from 1956 up to the millenium. It bridges the gap between the present day architect and lighting engineer, from the viewpoint of the 'independent lighting designer'.
'Lighting Modern Buildings' documents the part played by the independent lighting designer, leading to a greater understanding by architects and lighting engineers of the importance of lighting in architectural design.
The book starts with an exploration of the basic human needs of vision and the perception of our exterior world...the intellectual and the physical...since this is what lighting is all about. To do this, it is necessary to trace the development of daylight from earliest times up to the present day; the starting point for any lighting design is the 'natural' source.
Whilst an essential understanding of the role of daylight is the beginning, a knowledge of the various forms and properties of artificial light is essential; not only at night but during the day. In early buildings, there was one form of light - daylight - during the day and another - artificial - at night. No attempt was made to integrate the two. The situation today is different; there are many reasons for this, not least in the possibilities of modern structure. The book therefore has extensive coverage of day and night lighting and how it is designed to provide optimum solutions in building design.
A major portion of Derek Phillips' book is devoted to 'design'. Sufficient technical detail is provided in the book to permit an understanding of the design principles of each scheme. Schemes illustrated vary from small domestic buildings, churches and workplace, to those devoted to leisure and sport. At the end of each section a series of conclusions are drawn leading to a philosophy of lighting design.
:: Learn how to design optimum lighting solutions
:: Understand how to bridge the gap between architects and lighting engineers
:: Discover how to integrate natural and artificial light sources

Hermann Kopetz, "Real-Time Systems: Design Principles for Distributed Embedded Applications
(The Springer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science)"Springer | 352 pages | 1997-04-01 | ISBN:0792398947 | PDF | 2.3 MB
Real-Time Systems: Design Principles for Distributed Embedded Applications focuses on hard real-time systems, which are computing systems that must meet their temporal specification in all anticipated load and fault scenarios. The book stresses the system aspects of distributed real-time applications, treating the issues of real-time, distribution and fault-tolerance from an integral point of view. A unique cross-fertilization of ideas and concepts between the academic and industrial worlds has led to the inclusion of many insightful examples from industry to explain the fundamental scientific concepts in a real-world setting. Thus, this book serves as an excellent text for advanced level courses on real-time systems.
Real-Time Systems: Design Principles for Distributed Embedded Applications also serves as an invaluable reference for professionals in industry. The book explains the relevance of the latest scientific insights to the solution of everyday problems in the design and implementation of distributed and embedded real-time systems. Thus, as a reference source the book presents state-of-the-art real-time technology in a coherent, concise and understandable manner. Because the cost-effectiveness of a particular method is of major concern in an industrial setting, design decisions are examined from an economic viewpoint. The recent appearance of cost-effective powerful system chips has tremendous influence on the architecture and economics of future distributed system solutions. The composability of an architecture, i.e., the capability to build dependable large systems out of pre-tested components with minimal integration effort, is one of the great challenges for designers of the next generation of real-time systems. The topic of composability is thus a recurring theme throughout the book.
Real-Time Systems: Design Principles for Distributed Embedded Applications is essential reading for anyone involved in the field of real-time systems.

The Universe in a Single Atom: The Convergence of Science and Spirituality
(Audiobook) - Dalai LamaRead by Richard Gere | Unabridged | mp3 | 96kbpss | 252 Mb | 6 hrs | ISBN: 0739322656
Publisher: RH Audio | Unabridged edition (September 13, 2005)
Gallileo, Copernicus, Newton, Niels Bohr, Einstein. Their insights shook our perception of who we
are and where we stand in the world and in their wake have left an uneasy co-existence: science
vs. religion, faith vs. empirical enquiry. Which is the keeper of truth? Which is the true path to
understanding reality?
After forty years of study with some of the greatest scientific minds as well as a lifetime of
meditative, spiritual and philosophical study, the Dalai Lama presents a brilliant analysis of why
both disciplines must be pursued in order to arrive at a complete picture of the truth. Science
shows us ways of interpreting the physical world, while spirituality helps us cope with reality.
But the extreme of either is impoverishing. The belief that all is reducible to matter and energy
leaves out a huge range of human experience: emotions, yearnings, compassion, culture. At the
same time, holding unexamined spiritual beliefs-beliefs that are contradicted by evidence, logic,
and experience-can lock us into fundamentalist cages.
Through an examination of Darwinism and karma, quantum mechanics and philosophical insight
into the nature of reality, neurobiology and the study of consciousness, the Dalai Lama draws
significant parallels between contemplative and scientific examination of reality. "I believe that
spirituality and science are complementary but different investigative approaches with the same
goal of seeking the truth," His Holiness writes. "In this, there is much each may learn from the
other, and together they may contribute to expanding the horizon of human knowledge and
wisdom."
This breathtakingly personal examination is a tribute to the Dalai Lama's teachers-both of
science and spirituality. The legacy of this book is a vision of the world in which our different
approaches to understanding ourselves, our universe and one another can be brought together in
the service of humanity.

Dirk A. Taubner "Finite Representations of CCS and TCSP Programs by Automata
and Petri Nets " Springer | 1989-09-05 | ISBN:3540515259 | PDF | 168 pages | 8,1 Mb
This work relates different approaches for the modelling of parallel processes. On the one hand
there are the so-called "process algebras" or "abstract programming languages" with Milner's
Calculus of Communicating Systems (CCS) and the theoretical version of Hoare's Communicating
Sequential Processes (CSP) as main representatives. On the other hand there are machine
models, i.e. the classical finite state automata (transition systems), for which, however, more
discriminating notions of equivalence than equality of languages are used; and secondly, there
are differently powerful types of Petri nets, namely safe and general (place/transition) nets
respectively, and predicate/transition nets. Within a uniform framework the syntax and the
operational semantics of CCS and TCSP are explained. We consider both, Milner's well-known
interleaving semantics, which is based on infinite transition systems, as well as the new
distributed semantics introduced by Degano et al., which is based on infinite safe nets. The main
part of this work contains three syntax-driven constructions of transition systems, safe nets, and
predicate/transition nets respectively. Each of them is accompanied by a proof of consistency.
Due to intrinsic limits, which are also investigated here, neither for transition systems and finite
nets, nor for general nets does a finite consistent representation of all CCS and TCSP programs
exist. However sublanguages which allow finite representations are discerned. On the other hand
the construction of predicate/transition nets is possible for all CCS programs in which every
choice and every recursive body starts sequentially.

This publication is the second in the Research in Design series. Design
is an effort that enjoys a growing attention in the academic world. At
Delft University of Technology design is a recognized part of science.
Like other technical universities, Delft is rooted in the engineering
field. And in spite of questions like 'what is design', 'what is
engineering' and 'what is science', which can be debated in long
sessions, and differences that are hard to explain, it is possible to
feel the differences. In this book the authors contribute to the
development of a design language for the service domain. In general the
engineering discipline is expanding into a field that embraces
perspectives of more disciplines and actors, next to the engineer who is
responsible for the artifact. The first volume in this Research in
Design Series stresses the stakeholder oriented approach in the domain
of architecture and urban planning (Binnekamp, van Gunsteren, & van
Loon, 2006). The domain in this volume is services. This is a field in
which the involvement of different stakeholders with different interests
in the design process is particularly a critical success factor.

Software Measurement: Establish - Extract - Evaluate - Execute
Springer; 1 edition | ISBN: 3540716483 | 561 pages | August 30, 2007 | PDF | 32 Mb
Our world and our society are shaped and increasingly governed by software. Since software is
so ubiquitous and embedded in nearly everything we are doing, we need to stay in control. We
have to make sure that the systems and their software are running as we intend - or better.
Software measurement is the discipline that assures that we stay in control.
In this volume, Ebert and Dumke provide a comprehensive introduction to software
measurement. They detail knowledge and experiences about software measurement in an easily
understood, hands-on presentation. Brief references are embedded from world-renown experts
such as Alain Abran, Luigi Buglione, Manfred Bundschuh, David N. Card, Ton Dekkers, Robert L.
Glass, David A. Gustafson, Marek Leszak, Peter Liggesmeyer, Andreas Schmietendorf, Harry
Sneed, Charles Symons, Ruediger Zarnekow and Horst Zuse. Many examples and case studies
are provided from Global 100 companies such as Alcatel-Lucent, Atos Origin, Axa, Bosch,
Deloitte, Deutsche Telekom, Shell, Siemens and Vector Consulting.

All You Wanted to Know about Mathematics but Were Afraid to Ask: volume 1Louis Lyons | Cambridge University Press | Pages: 343 | 1995-10-27 | ISBN:0521436001 |
DJVU | 1.5mb
Physics and engineering students need a clear understanding of mathematics in order to solve a
vast array of problems posed to them in coursework. Unfortunately, in many textbooks,
mathematical proofs and techniques obscure a fundamental understanding of the physical
principles. In a clear and didactic manner, this book explains to the student why particular
advanced mathematical techniques are useful for solving certain problems. The aim is to convey
a deeper appreciation of mathematical methods that are applicable to physics and engineering
through a discussion of a wide range of real physical problems. The topics covered include
simultaneous equations, three-dimensional geometry and vectors, complex numbers, differential
equations, partial derivatives, Taylor series, and Lagrange multipliers.

A unique approach to quantum field theory, with emphasis on the principles of renormalization
Quantum field theory is frequently approached from the perspective of particle physics. This
book adopts a more general point of view and includes applications of condensed matter physics.
Written by a highly respected writer and researcher, it first develops traditional concepts,
including Feynman graphs, before moving on to key topics such as functional integrals, statistical
mechanics, and Wilson's renormalization group. The connection between the latter and
conventional perturbative renormalization is explained.
Quantum Field Theory is an exceptional textbook for graduate students familiar with advanced
quantum mechanics as well as physicists with an interest in theoretical physics. It features:
* Coverage of quantum electrodynamics with practical calculations and a discussion of
perturbative renormalization
* A discussion of the Feynman path integrals and a host of current subjects, including the
physical approach to renormalization, spontaneous symmetry breaking and superfluidity, and
topological excitations
* Nineteen self-contained chapters with exercises, supplemented with graphs and charts

Solutions Manual" South-Western College Pub,7th Edition | 2004-08-31 | ISBN: 0324171730 | 1248 pages | PDF |
8,5 Mb
The purpose of this book is to help you learn how to manage your money to derive the maximum
benefit from what you earn. Mixing investment instruments and capital markets with the
theoretical detail on evaluating investments and opportunities to satisfy risk-return objectives
along with how investment practice and theory is influenced by globalization leaves readers with
the mindset on investments to serve them well. The material is intended to be rigorous and
empirical yet not overly quantitative. We continue with unparalleled international coverage,
newly rewritten and reorganized derivatives material to be more intuitive and clearer, three
additional chapters on derivatives pricing for those who want more detail, rewritten material on
multifactor models of risk and return, and new CFA problems for more practice on computations
concerning investment decisions. To manage money and investments, one needs to learn about
investment alternatives and develop a way of analyzing and thinking about investments that will
be of benefit and allow a foundation as new tools and investment opportunities become
available. Reilly/Brown provide the best foundation, used extensively by professionals,
organizations, and schools across the country. A great source for those with both a theoretical
and practical need for investment expertise.

Richard Swinburne presents a substantially rewritten and updated edition of his most celebrated
book. No other work has made a more powerful case for the probability of the existence of God.
Swinburne gives a rigorous and penetrating analysis of the most important arguments for
theism: the cosmological argument; arguments from the existence of laws of nature and the
fine-tuning of the universe; from the occurrence of consciousness and moral awareness; and
from miracles and religious experience. He claims that while none of these arguments are
deductively valid, they do give inductive support to theism and that, even when the argument
from evil is weighed against them, taken together they make it overall probable that there is a
God.
The original structure of the discussion and its conclusion have been retained for this new
edition, but much has been changed in order to strengthen the argumentation and to take
account of Swinburne's subsequent work on the nature of consciousness and the problem of evil,
and of the latest philosophical and scientific writing, especially in respect of the laws of nature
and the argument from fine-tuning. This is now the definitive version of a classic in the
philosophy of religion.
"Review from previous edition This impressive book ... deserves the serious attention of
theologians ... Anyone seriously interested in philosophy of religion or systematic theology should
read it."--Journal of Theological Studies

The Metabarons 02 - "The Last Stand"
by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Juan Gimenez

| 11.9 MB | pdf | Rar | 28 pages | English |
The Metabarons or The Saga of The Meta-Barons is a science fantasy comic series relating the history of a
dynasty of perfect warriors known as the Metabarons. The Metabarons series was written by creator Alejandro
Jodorowsky and illustrated by Argentinian artist Juan Gimenez.
Every Metabaron is conceived by his mother in a non-natural way (eg. by cloning or incest). In his youth he is
handicapped by his father so that his endurance to pain is tested, and that he receives a powerful mechanical
body part as a replacement for the destroyed limb - making every Metabaron a cyborg. The rite of succession is
equally as cruel and uncompromising. In each generation, the son and heir must eventually face his father in a
battle to the death. These battles have taken many forms, from hand-to-hand combat to dogfighting space duels.
The rite of succession is only achieved once the cursed son succeeds in killing his father.
