this book is really good for a signal processing researcher.
generally it is difficult for a new researcher to connect math to the signal processing methods. conventional signal processing books only give the bit of math as needed in the signal processing books and this makes it difficult for an inexperienced student.
in this book mathematics is explained in more detail and in the introduction of each chapter it is mentioned why and where you would need this math knowledge.
at the end of each chapter application sections are provided
where problems from signal processing are explained for that particular mathematical method.

there are also exercises.
however, this book can be difficult for a new graduate without any establishment of signal processing concepts and problems.
it is an excellent book for a phd student in my view and it can be a classic.

GPRS is a packet based wireless communication service that offers data rates from 9.05 up to 171.2 Kbps and continuous connection to the Internet for mobile phone and computer users. GPRS is based on GSM communications and complements existing services such as circuit switched cellular phone connections and the Short Message Service (SMS).

GPRS represents the bridge between 2G and 3G mobile telecommunications and is commonly referred to as 2.5G.

Implementation of GPRS requires modification of the existing GSM networks in that GSM is a circuit switched technology while GPRS is packet oriented. GPRS enables packet data (the same as is used by an Ethernet LAN, WAN or the Internet) to be sent to and from a mobile station - e.g. mobile phone, PDA or Laptop.

WAP and SMS can also be sent using GPRS and individuals working with GPRS need to learn and understand how the mobile stations, the air interface, network architecture, protocol structures and signalling procedures must be modified.
GPRS offers much higher data rates than GSM and can be combined with 3G technologies such as EDGE to give even higher bit-rates. It offers many benefits for customers and network operators: such as volume (rather then time) dependent billing and more efficient use of network resources.

Due to the worldwide delay in implementing 3G solutions such as CDMA and UMTS the demand for GPRS is still growing.

This is because out of the two field components of light, electric and magnetic, only the electric "hand" efficiently probes the atoms of a material, whereas the magnetic component remains relatively unused because the interaction of atoms with the magnetic field component of light is normally weak. Metamaterials, i.e. artificial materials with rationally designed properties, can enable the coupling of both of the field components of light to meta-atoms, enabling entirely new optical properties and exciting applications with such "two-handed" light. Among the fascinating properties is a negative refractive index. The refractive index is one of the most fundamental characteristics of light propagation in materials. Metamaterials with negative refraction may lead to the development of a superlens capable of imaging objects and their fine structures that are much smaller than the wavelength of light. Other exciting applications of metamaterials include novel antennae with superior properties, optical nano-lithography and nano-circuits, and "meta-coatings" that can make objects invisible. The word "meta" means "beyond" in Greek, and in this sense the name "metamaterials" refers to "beyond conventional materials." Metamaterials are typically man-made and have properties not available in nature. What is so magical about this simple merging of "meta" and "materials" that has attracted so much attention from researchers and has resulted in exponential growth in the number of publications in this area? The BCS treatment is slightly cursory. If it's this you need, try perhaps an older book on superconductivity.

The narrative should be understandable to an undergrad physics major, at the level of 3rd or 4th year.
