Different strategies make a huge difference in results. By using the strategy outlined in Learn More, Study Less, I have:
- Aced University finals with little or no studying.
- Scored first in an advanced inter-province Chemistry exam Without even being aware I was needed to take the test until five minutes before writing it.
- Read over 70 books each year.
- Scored in the top three percentile for a national exam. Despite never having taken the course being tested.
- Minimized course work to maintain an A average while running a part-time business, presiding over a Toastmasters club, exercising daily and still being able to socialize and party.
What will you be able to do with the book?

This book covers elementary concepts in creating and manipulating 2D and 3D graphical objects, covering topics from classic graphics algorithms to perspective drawings and hidden-line elimination.Completely revised and updated throughout, the second edition of this highly popular textbook contains a host of ready-to-run-programs and worked examples, illuminating general principles and geometric techniques. Ideal for classroom use or self-study, it provides a perfect foundation for programming computer graphics using Java.
Over the past few years, Java has evolved into more powerful programming environments. The most notable development related to computer graphics is its support for 3D graphics. Many application examples illustrated in this book could be readily implemented using Java 3D without any understanding of the internal working of the implementation, which we consider undesirable for computer science students. We therefore believe that this textbook continues to serve as an indispensable introduction to the foundation of computer graphics, on which many application program interfaces (APIs) and graphics libraries could be developed, and more importantly, how they are developed.

By data mining the Web, we refer to the application of data mining methodologies, techniques, and models to the variety of data forms, structures, and usage patterns that comprise the World Wide Web. As the subtitle indicates, we are interested in uncovering patterns and trends in the content, structure, and use of the Web.
A good definition of data mining is that in Principles of Data Mining by David Hand, Heikki Mannila, and Padhraic Smyth (MIT Press, Cambridge, MA, 2001): “Data mining is the analysis of (often large) observational data sets to find unsuspected relationships and to summarize the data in novelways that are both understandable and useful to the data owner.” Data Mining the Web: Uncovering Patterns in Web Content, Structure, and Usage demonstrates how to apply data mining methods and models toWeb-based data forms.
The book provides the reader with models and techniques to uncover hidden nuggets of information in Webbased data, insight into how web mining algorithms really work, and finaly with experience of actually performing web mining on real-world data sets.
The book continues the coverage of data mining as a process. The particular standard process used is the CRISP-DM framework: the cross-industry standard process for data mining. CRISP-DM demands that data mining be seen as an entire process, from communication of the business problem through data collection and management, data preprocessing, model building, model evaluation, and finally, model deployment. Therefore, this book is not only for analysts and managers, but also for data management professionals, database analysts, decision makers, and others whowould like to leverage their repositories of Web-based data.

Data Engineering has become a necessary and critical activity for business, engineering, and scientific organizations as the move to service oriented architecture and web services moves into full swing. Notably, the US Department of Defense is mandating that all of its agencies and contractors assume a defining presence on the Net-centric Global Information Grid. This book provides the first practical approach to data engineering and modeling, which supports interoperabililty with consumers of the data in a service- oriented architectures (SOAs). Although XML (eXtensible Modeling Language) is the lingua franca for such interoperability, it is not sufficient on its own. The approach in this book addresses critical objectives such as creating a single representation for multiple applications, designing models capable of supporting dynamic processes, and harmonizing legacy data models for web-based co-existence. The approach is based on the System Entity Structure (SES) which is a well-defined structure, methodology, and practical tool with all of the functionality of UML (Unified Modeling Language) and few of the drawbacks. The SES originated in the formal representation of hierarchical simulation models. So it provides an axiomatic formalism that enables automating the development

Scholars in all fields now have access to an unprecedented wealth of online information, tools, and services. The Internet lies at the core of an information infrastructure for distributed, data-intensive, and collaborative research. Although much attention has been paid to the new technologies making this possible, from digitized books to sensor networks, it is the underlying social and policy changes that will have the most lasting effect on the scholarly enterprise. In Scholarship in the Digital Age, Christine Borgman explores the technical, social, legal, and economic aspects of the kind of infrastructure that we should be building for scholarly research in the twenty-first century.
Borgman describes the roles that information technology plays at every stage in the life cycle of a research project and contrasts these new capabilities with the relatively stable system of scholarly communication, which remains based on publishing in journals, books, and conference proceedings. No framework for the impending “data deluge” exists comparable to that for publishing. Analyzing scholarly practices in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities, Borgman compares each discipline’s approach to infrastructure issues. In the process, she challenges the many stakeholders in the scholarly infrastructure–scholars, publishers, libraries, funding agencies, and others–to look beyond their own domains to address the interaction of technical, legal, economic, social, political, and disciplinary concerns. Scholarship in the Digital Age will provoke a stimulating conversation among all who depend on a rich and robust scholarly environment.

Excel Basics to Blackbelt is intended to serve as an accelerated guide to decision support designs. Its structure is designed to enhance the skills in Excel of those who have never used it for anything but possibly storing phone numbers, enabling them to reach to a level of mastery that will allow them to develop user interfaces and automated applications. To accomplish this, the major theme of the text is “the integration of the basic”; as a result readers will be able to develop decision support tools that are at once highly intuitive from a working-components perspective but also highly significant from the perspective of practical use and distribution. Applications integration discussed includes the use of MS MapPoint, XLStat and RISKOptimizer, as well as how to leverage Excel’s iteration mode, web queries, visual basic code, and interface development. There are ample examples throughout the text.
