Joey Hirao, Mimi Choi, Perry Cox, Steven Passer "SAP Security Configuration and Deployment: The IT Administrator's Guide to Best Practices"
Syngress | 2008-11-28 | ISBN: 1597492841 | 392 pages | PDF | 4 MB

Throughout the world, high-profile large organizations (aerospace and defense, automotive, banking, chemicals, financial service providers, healthcare, high tech, insurance, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, retail, telecommunications, and utilities) and governments are using SAP software to process their most mission-critical, highly sensitive data. With more than 100,000 installations, SAP is the world's largest enterprise software company and the world's third largest independent software supplier overall.
Despite this widespread use, there have been very few books written on SAP implementation and security, despite a great deal of interest. (There are 220,000 members in an on-line SAP 'community' seeking information, ideas and tools on the IT Toolbox Website alone.) Managing SAP user authentication and authorizations is becoming more complex than ever, as there are more and more SAP products involved that have very different access issues. It's a complex area that requires focused expertise.

This book is designed for these network and systems administrator who deal with the complexity of having to make judgmental decisions regarding enormously complicated and technical data in the SAP landscape, as well as pay attention to new compliance rules and security regulations.

Most SAP users experience significant challenges when trying to manage and mitigate the risks in existing or new security solutions and usually end up facing repetitive, expensive re-work and perpetuated compliance challenges. This book is designed to help them properly and efficiently manage these challenges on an ongoing basis. It aims to remove the 'Black Box' mystique that surrounds SAP security.

* The most comprehensive coverage of the essentials of SAP security currently available: risk and control management, identity and access management, data protection and privacy, corporate governance, legal and regulatory compliance.

* This book contains information about SAP security that is not available anywhere else to help the reader avoid the "gotchas" that may leave them vulnerable during times of upgrade or other system changes

*Companion Web site provides custom SAP scripts, which readers can download to install, configure and troubleshoot SAP.

Cambridge University Press
Routledge | 300 pages | 2008 | ISBN: 0521895243 | PDF | 1 mb
Naturalized Bioethics represents a revolutionary change in how health care ethics is practiced. It calls for bioethicists to give up their dependence on utilitarianism and other ideal moral theories and instead to move toward a self-reflexive, socially inquisitive, politically critical, and inclusive ethics. Wary of idealizations that bypass social realities, the naturalism in ethics that is developed in this volume is empirically nourished and acutely aware that ethical theory is the practice of particular people in particular times, places, cultures, and professional environments. The essays in this collection examine the variety of embodied experiences of individual people.

They situate the bioethicist within the clinical or research context, take seriously the web of relationships in which all human beings are nested, and explore a number of the many different kinds of power relations that inform health care encounters. Naturalized Bioethics aims to help bioethicists, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, disability studies
scholars, medical researchers, and other health professionals address the ethical issues surrounding health care.

Boguslaw Cyganek, J. Paul Siebert, “An Introduction to 3D Computer Vision Techniques and Algorithms”
Wiley | 2009-03-03 | ISBN: 047001704X | 504 pages | PDF | 12,5 MB
Computer vision encompasses the construction of integrated vision systems and the application of vision to problems of real-world importance. The process of creating 3D models is still rather difficult, requiring mechanical measurement of the camera positions or manual alignment of partial 3D views of a scene. However using algorithms, it is possible to take a collection of stereo-pair images of a scene and then automatically produce a photo-realistic, geometrically accurate digital 3D model.

This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the methods, theories and algorithms of 3D computer vision. Almost every theoretical issue is underpinned with practical implementation or a working algorithm using pseudo-code and complete code written in C++ and MatLab®. There is the additional clarification of an accompanying website with downloadable software, case studies and exercises. Organised in three parts, Cyganek and Siebert give a brief history of vision research, and subsequently:
present basic low-level image processing operations for image matching, including a separate chapter on image matching algorithms;
explain scale-space vision, as well as space reconstruction and multiview integration;
demonstrate a variety of practical applications for 3D surface imaging and analysis;
provide concise appendices on topics such as the basics of projective geometry and tensor calculus for image processing, distortion and noise in images plus image warping procedures.

An Introduction to 3D Computer Vision Algorithms and Techniques is a valuable reference for practitioners and programmers working in 3D computer vision, image processing and analysis as well as computer visualisation. It would also be of interest to advanced students and researchers in the fields of engineering, computer science, clinical photography, robotics, graphics and mathematics.

Gary J. McCleane, "Pain Management: Expanding the Pharmacological Options"
Wiley-Blackwell | 2008-06-30 | ISBN: 140517823X | 200 pages | PDF | 4,3 MB
Conventional pharmaceutical approaches to pain management are not always successful. Using only those medications that have an official indication for a certain condition reduces substantially the chance of the patient gaining pain relief and may expose them to intolerable side effects. However evidence now exists on the use of other drugs, produced for non-pain conditions, and how they can substantially increase the chances of pain relief.
Covering the most recent developments in this field, McCleane offers an alternative solution to pain treatment when conventional treatments fail. This pioneering book proposes evidence-based alternatives to current options in pain management, using well-grounded rationales for each given treatment.
This book is an ideal reference for the specialist and non-specialist prescriber alike and for practitioners from a wide variety of disciplines. It provides the evidence required and treatment algorithms for readers to use the drugs appropriately and to explore the field if they wish.

Wendell Wallach, Colin Allen, “Moral Machines: Teaching Robots Right from Wrong”
Oxford University Press, USA | 2008-11-19 | ISBN: 0195374045 | 288 pages | PDF | 2,6 MB
Computers are already approving financial transactions, controlling electrical supplies, and driving trains. Soon, service robots will be taking care of the elderly in their homes, and military robots will have their own targeting and firing protocols. Colin Allen and Wendell Wallach argue that as robots take on more and more responsibility, they must be programmed with moral decision-making abilities, for our own safety. Taking a fast paced tour through the latest thinking about philosophical ethics and artificial intelligence, the authors argue that even if full moral agency for machines is a long way off, it is already necessary to start building a kind of functional morality, in which artificial moral agents have some basic ethical sensitivity. But the standard ethical theories don't seem adequate, and more socially engaged and engaging robots will be needed. As the authors show, the quest to build machines that are capable of telling right from wrong has begun. Moral Machines is the first book to examine the challenge of building artificial moral agents, probing deeply into the nature of human decision making and ethics.

Quantum Mechanics; A Modern and Concise Introductory Course
Publisher: Springer | 240 pages | June 11, 2007 | ISBN: 3540462155 | PDF | 7 MB
Starting from basic principles, the book systematically covers both Heisenberg and Schrödinger realizations of quantum mechanics (in this order). The material traditionally presented in quantum textbooks is illustrated with applications which are (or will become) cornerstones of future technologies. The emphasis in the matrix formulation focus the attention on the spin, the most important quantum observable, and paves the way to chapters on quantum information (including crytography, teleportation and computation), on recent tests of quantum physics and on decoherence. Additions and changes found in the second edition include; a more friendly presentation to Hilbert spaces; more practical applications e.g. scanning tunneling microscope (potential barrier); quantum dots (single-particle states in semiconductors); lasers and masers (induced emission); real experiments that have recently provided a qualitative change in the foundations of quantum physics; and an outline of the density matrix formalism as applied to a simple model of decoherence.

Patrick J. Michaels, “Climate of Extremes: Global Warming Science They Don't Want You to Know”
Cato Institute | 2009-01-25 | ISBN: 1933995238 | 250 pages | PDF | 2,55 MB
Is the weather truly getting worse? When it comes to global warming, dire predictions seem to be all we see or hear. Climatologists Patrick Michaels and Robert Balling Jr. explain why the news and information we receive about global warming have become so apocalyptic. The science itself has become increasingly biased, with warnings of extreme consequences from global warming becoming the norm. That bias is then communicated through the media, who focus on only extreme predictions. The authors compellingly illuminate the other side of the story, the science we aren't being told. This body of work details how the impact of global warming is far less severe than is generally believed and far from catastrophic.

The Human Side of Leadership: Navigating Emotions at Work
Praeger Publishers | 2007 | ISBN: 0275991326 | Pages: 160 | PDF | 1.17 MB
Any management decision that involves people (in other words, any management decision) has an emotional component. Given the ubiquitous nature of emotions as part of the human psyche, one would expect leaders and managers to be well-trained and equipped to deal with emotions in the workplace. On the contrary, the emotional side of being a leader is largely ignored in formal and informal training programs, often resulting in miscommunication between managers and their employees, and contributing to workplace stress. Though concepts such as "emotional intelligence" have entered the mainstream, systematic development of skills in managing emotions in the workplace have yet to emerge, and are often relegated to the "touchy-feely" end of the spectrum. This book argues that without acknowledging the powerful influence of emotions--their own as well as others'--managers are doomed to fail in their interactions with employees, peers, and bosses, and ultimately in their ability to manage and lead effectively. Ginsberg and Davies draw from primary research, including interviews with managers in a variety of settings, to introduce readers to the "emotional side of leadership" and demonstrate its positive effects on individual and organizational performance. They present practical tools for honing emotional navigation skills and applying them toward decision making, problem solving, communication, feedback, and performance improvement.

Neuroeconomics: A Guide to the New Science of Making Choices
Oxford University Press | 2008 | ISBN: 0195305825 | Pages: 240 | PDF | 1.18 MB
As technology has opened new windows into the brain, it has revealed a great deal about what happens there when people make decisions about money. These revelations have given rise to a new field, called neuroeconomics. The field promises to answer both economic and emotional questions about behavior surrounding situations involving money--such as why people save, buy stocks, steal, and overspend. Interest in neuroeconomics has spread outward to many different fields--marketing, management, education, psychology, political science, and law--but it has also pulled the focus of many of these fields inward, toward a common neurobiology that unites them. As a result, we have begun to learn that some fields' concerns are not as different as they have appeared to be. For example, the monetary concerns of economics and the emotional concerns of the mental health fields, on the surface, look very different. But when it comes to distinguishing the two, many neural circuits do not have a clue. Many of the fear circuits do not know if we are worried about stocks or terrorists. And most of the reward circuits do not know if we are picking up a paycheck or checking out an attractive face. There has, however, been no book that adequately explores the most basic commonality between these different disciplines: a question asked by economics and mental health researchers, as well as those in a variety of other fields: What are the essential elements of rationality or "good sense"? What are the common elements of god economic decisions and adaptive emotional judgments? The proposed volulme will fill this gap by introducing a new framework for evaluating certain aspects of good--or poor--judgment, providing a model for making sense of our evaluations, and showing how neuroeconomic methods will ultimately help us to recognize inconsistency in values, measure response to monetary risk and reward, discover more specific elements of response, and inject more sense into different concepts of good sense. This volume will be a valuable addition to the literature for those in psychology, neuroscience, economics, emotional intelligence, legal competency, consumer psychology, and decision-making.

Video2brain - Adobe Illustrator CS4 - Grundlagen | 4,4 GB

Takaomi Arai, Hiroya Harino, Madoka Ohji, William J Langston, “Ecotoxicology of Antifouling Biocides”
Springer | 2009-02-01 | ISBN: 4431857087 | 300 pages | PDF | 13,7 MB
Organotin compounds, used as antifouling biocides since 1960, are chemical compounds that act as endocrine disrupters. It is not known how organotin compounds cause hormone disturbance, however, and many questions remain about their effect on aquatic organisms. Studies on organotin compounds have recently evolved, with many new findings reported. Following a worldwide ban on organotin compounds in 2008, alternative compounds will mainly be used, with the potential for coastal areas to become contaminated, causing, among other effects, cholinesterase inhibition in aquatic organisms. Use of alternative compounds must be controlled to avoid such errors. These and other findings are described and concisely summarized in this book, providing a useful reference in countries where alternative biocides are being considered. Included are studies on the effects on marine organisms, making this book an excellent aid to experts in environmental chemistry, to government organizations, and to students.

Edward Schwartz, “Microbial Megaplasmids”
Springer | 2009-01-17 | ISBN: 3540854665 | 348 pages | PDF | 12,2 MB
Megaplasmids are extrachromosomal genetic elements in the size range of 100 kb and larger. They are found in physiologically and phylogenetically diverse groups of bacteria and archaea. By definition, megaplasmids are not essential for the viability of their hosts under all growth conditions, but paradoxically many megaplasmids carry the genetic information for the defining and characteristic traits of the organism in which they reside.

Microbial Megaplasmids reviews our knowledge of the extensively studied representatives, such as the catabolic plasmids of the pseudomonads, the rhizobial Sym plasmids, the Ti plasmids of the genus Agrobacterium and the giant enterobacterial virulence plasmids. It also presents snapshots of more recently discovered megaplasmids. The contribution of megaplasmids to the biology of their hosts is described, highlighting the interactions between megaplasmid and chromosomal genes.

Advances in Applied Self-organizing Systems
Publisher: Springer | 376 pages | November 7, 2007 | ISBN 1846289815 | PDF | 5 MB
The main challenge faced by designers of self-organizing systems is how to validate and control non-deterministic dynamics. Over-engineering the system may completely suppress self-organization with an outside influence, eliminating emergent patterns and decreasing robustness, adaptability and scalability. Whilst leaving too much non-determinism in the system’s behaviour may make its verification and validation almost impossible. This book presents the state-of-the-practice in successfully engineered self-organizing systems, and examines ways to balance design and self organization in the context of applications.

As demonstrated throughout, finding this balance helps to deal with diverse practical challenges. The book begins with the more established fields of traffic management and structural health monitoring, building up towards robotic teams, solving challenging tasks deployed in tough environments. The second half of the book follows with a deeper look into the micro-level, and considers local interactions between agents. These interactions lead towards self-modifying digital circuitry and self-managing grids, self-organizing data visualization and intrusion detection in computer networks, immunocomputing and nature-inspired computation, and eventually to artificial life. The case studies described illustrate the richness of the topic and provide guidance to its intricate areas.

Kurt E. Sickafus, Eugene A. Kotomin, Blas P. Uberuaga, "Radiation Effects in Solids (NATO Science Series II: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry)"
Springer | 2007-03-01 | ISBN: 1402052936 | 592 pages | PDF | 22.5 MB
The purpose of this book is to provide students with a comprehensive overview of fundamental principles and relevant technical issues associated with the behavior of solids exposed to high-energy radiation. These issues are important to the development of materials for existing fission reactors or future fusion and advanced reactors for energy production; to the development of electronic devices such as high-energy detectors; and to the development of novel materials for electronic and photonic applications (particularly on the nanoscale). The book details a broad range of topics falling into three general categories: (i) radiation damage fundamentals; (ii) materials dependent radiation damage phenomena; (iii) special topics (including swift ion irradiation effects, nanostructure design via irradiation, radiation detectors, and many other topics).

This book serves to demonstrate the crucial interplay between experimental and theoretical investigations of radiation damage phenomena. The book explores computer simulation methods for the examination of radiation effects, ranging from molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of events occurring on short timescales (ps – ns), to methods such as kinetic Monte Carlo and kinetic rate theory, which consider damage evolution over times ranging from µs to hours beyond the initial damage event. The book also examines some of the experimental techniques used to assess radiation damage accumulation in solids, including transmission electron microscopy, ion channeling, nanoindentation, and positron annihilation, to name only a few techniques.

Modelling, Communication and Analysis

Product Description

An enterprise architecture tries to describe and control an organisation’s structure, processes, applications, systems and techniques in an integrated way. The unambiguous specification and description of components and their relationships in such an architecture requires a coherent architecture modelling language.

Lankhorst and his co-authors present such an enterprise modelling language that captures the complexity of architectural domains and their relations and allows the construction of integrated enterprise architecture models. They provide architects with concrete instruments that improve their architectural practice. As this is not enough, they additionally present techniques and heuristics for communicating with all relevant stakeholders about these architectures. Since an architecture model is useful not only for providing insight into the current or future situation but can also be used to evaluate the transition from ‘as-is’ to ‘to-be’, the authors also describe analysis methods for assessing both the qualitative impact

of changes to an architecture and the quantitative aspects of architectures, such as performance and cost issues.

The modelling language and the other techniques presented have been proven in practice in many real-life case studies. Path Routing in Mesh Optical Networks

Product Description
Transport networks evolved from DCS (Digital Cross-connect Systems)-based mesh architectures, to SONET/SDH (Synchronous Optical Networking/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) ring architectures in the 1990’s. In the past few years, technological advancements in optical transport switches have allowed service providers to support the same fast recovery in mesh networks previously available in ring networks while achieving better capacity efficiency and resulting in lower capital cost.

Optical transport networks today not only provide trunking capacity to higher-layer networks, such as inter-router connectivity in an IP-centric infrastructure, but also support efficient routing and fast failure recovery of high-bandwidth services. This is possible due to the emergence of optical network elements that have the intelligence required to efficiently control the network. Optical mesh networks will enable a variety of dynamic services such as bandwidth-on-demand, Just-In-Time bandwidth, bandwidth scheduling, bandwidth brokering, and optical virtual private networks that open up new opportunities for service providers and their customers alike.

Path Routing in Mesh Optical Networks combines both theoretical as well as practical aspects of routing and dimensioning for mesh optical networks. All authors have worked as technical leaders for the equipment vendor Tellium who implemented such capabilities in its product, and whose product was deployed in service provider networks.

Path Routing in Mesh Optical Networks

  • Presents an in-depth treatment of a specific class of optical networks, i.e. path-oriented mesh optical networks.
  • Focuses on routing and recovery, dimensioning, performance analysis and availability in mesh optical networks.
  • Explains and analyses routing specifically associated with Dedicated Backup Path Protection (DBPP) and Shared Backup Path Protection (SBPP) recovery architectures.

As most of the core backbone networks evolve to mesh topologies utilizing intelligent network elements for provisioning and recovery of services, Path Routing in Mesh Optical Networks will be an invaluable tool for both researchers and engineers in the industry who are responsible for designing, developing, deploying and maintaining mesh optical networks. It will also be a useful reference book for graduate students and university professors who are interested in optical networks or telecommunications networking.
