L. C. Hilbert, "Currency Interventions, Fluctuations and Economic Issues"
Nova Science Publishers | 2008-02 | ISBN: 1604560789 | 155 pages | PDF | 5,8 MB
A currency is a unit of exchange, facilitating the transfer of goods and services. It is one form of money, where money is anything that serves as a medium of exchange, a store of value, and a standard of value. A currency zone is a country or region in which a specific currency is the dominant medium of exchange. To facilitate trade between currency zones, there are exchange rates, which are the prices at which currencies (and the goods and services of individual currency zones) can be exchanged against each other. Currencies can be classified as either floating currencies or fixed currencies based on their exchange rate regime. In

In
common usage, currency sometimes refers to only paper money, as in coins and currency, but this is misleading. Coins and paper money are both forms of currency. In most cases, each country has monopoly control over the supply and production of its own currency.

Carolyn C. Pertsova, "Ecological Economics Research Trends"
Nova Science Publishers, Inc. | 2008-02-01 | ISBN: 1600219411 | 368 pages | PDF | 3,2 MB
This new book presents new and important research in the field of ecological economics which is a transdisciplinary field of academic research that addresses the dynamic and spatial interdependence between human economies and natural ecosystems. Ecological economics brings together and connects different disciplines, within the natural and social sciences but especially between these broad areas. As the name suggests, the field is dominated by researchers with a background in economics and ecology. An important motivation for the emergence of ecological economics has been criticism on the assumptions and approaches of traditional (mainstream) environmental and resource economics. Ecological economics presents a more pluralistic approach to the study of environmental problems and policy solutions, characterized by systems perspectives, adequate physical and biological contexts, and a focus on long-term environmental sustainability. Ecological economics can be regarded as a version of environmental science with much emphasis on social, political, economic and behavioral issues.

Nick Antill, Kenneth Lee, “Company Valuation Under IFRS: Interpreting and Forecasting Accounts Using International Financial Reporting Standards”
Harriman House | 2008-06-01 | ISBN: 190564177X | 406 pages | PDF | 1,4 MB
Written by practitioners for practitioners, the book addresses valuation from the viewpoint of the analyst, the investor and the corporate acquirer. It starts with valuation theory: what is to be discounted and at what discount rate? It explains the connection between standard methodologies based on free cash flow and on return on capital. And it emphasizes that, whichever method is used, accurate interpretation of accounting information is critical to the production of sensible valuations. The authors argue that forecasts of cash flows imply views on profits and balance sheets, and that non-cash items contain useful information about future cash flows - so profits matter.

The book then addresses the implications for analysis and valuation of key aspects of IFRS.

Isamu Naka, Akira Ishikawa "Knowledge Management And Risk Strategies"
World Scientific Publishing Company | 2007-01-16 | ISBN: 9812568905 | 121 pages | PDF | 1,6 MB
This book deals with knowledge management with an emphasis on knowledge risk, i.e., a general trend of knowledge value getting shorter and becoming temporary. The shortening of knowledge value lifespan will have a profound impact on companies' employment policies, and employees' strategies for gaining knowledge.

How to manage knowledge selection, including personnel management, will be the key to survival for companies, when corporate competency shifts from stable business contacts to the quality of their offers, and when the value of knowledge, which is the foundation of products and services, is becoming more and more short-lived. Work-sharing and human resource derivatives are thus proposed as new concepts in order to deal with knowledge selection risk.

Columbia Crew Survival Investigation Report, by NASA
PDQ Press | English | January 15, 2009 | ISBN: 0979828899 | 400 Pages,Illustrated | PDF | 16,2 Mb
Description : NASA commissioned the Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB) to conduct a thorough review of both the technical and the organizational causes of the loss of the Space Shuttle Columbia and her crew on February 1, 2003. The accident investigation that followed determined that a large piece of insulating foam from Columbia`s external tank (ET) had come off during ascent and struck the leading edge of the left wing, causing critical damage. The damage was undetected during the mission. The Columbia accident was not survivable. After the Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB) investigation regarding the cause of the accident was completed, further consideration produced the question of whether there were lessons to be learned about how to improve crew survival in the future. This investigation was performed with the belief that a comprehensive, respectful investigation could provide knowledge that can protect future crews in the worldwide community of human space flight. Additionally, in the course of the investigation, several areas of research were identified that could improve our understanding of both nominal space flight and future spacecraft accidents. This report is the first comprehensive, publicly available accident investigation report addressing crew survival for a human spacecraft mishap, and it provides key information for future crew survival investigations. The results of this investigation are intended to add meaning to the sacrifice of the crew`s lives by making space flight safer for all future generations.

Gilbert Toppin, Fiona Czerniawska "Business Consulting: A Guide to How It Works and How to Make It Work"
Bloomberg Press | 2005-07-13 | ISBN: 1861977026 | 264 pages | PDF | 1 MB

The economic slowdown during the early 2000s tapered the once-vibrant growth of the consultancy industry. Not helping matters, in many cases, was increasing skepticism about the true value that consultants genuinely add to the bottom line. As firms have cut back and begun to review the way they use consultants, consulting firms themselves are looking at how they need to change. People are now talking about business consulting rather than management consulting. Using real examples from a range of private sector firms, public sector organizations, and from the consultants themselves, this book explores the new business consulting world. The authors examine all elements of the consulting process to help firms make better use of consultants and to show consultants how they need to adapt. With the right relationship in place, consultants and companies can work together to arrive at mutually beneficial solutions. With 90 percent of Fortune 500 firms using consultants on a regular basis (with varying results), this book provides relevant, timely information on an important area of global business.

Barbara Kate Repa, "Your Rights in the Workplace"
NOLO | 2007-07-30 | ISBN: 1413306438 | 528 pages | PDF | 3 MB
An easy-to-read guide to the laws that protect you in the workplace!

Your Rights in the Workplace is the most complete guide to workplace laws ever published -- it's essential to any one who is an employees.

In plain English, Your Rights in the Workplace covers everything from hiring and getting paid through privacy and firing. Get the facts on:

illegal firings and layoffs challenging a job loss wages and hours privacy on your email and voice mail family and medical leave on-the-job safety and health health insurance and retirement plans workplace testing sexual harassment discrimination unemployment, disability and workers' compensation insurance The 8th edition is completely updated to provide the latest legislation and case law that affects employees.Summary: Had it not been for this book, I would have been cheated...Rating: 5I'm a paralegal, you would think I would know these things. However, I was in a position where I knew I was being wronged, but would have to research and learn an entirely new form of law to make my case. This book had already done that for me. It has simple answers to complex questions; it is organized into a format which allows the reader to make educated decisions. I highly recommend this book whether you are in a situation now, or want to be prepared should you ever find yourself in a situation later. Summary: Employees' most valuable and complete guide: workplace lawsRating: 5Even after working in Corporate America for several years as a manager, it wasn't until I started my own business that I started paying attention to employment laws. And then I was amazed at how little attention I had paid to my rights in the workplace when I was an employee! I now realize that I didn't know anything about my privacy rights, or when I was being illegally discriminated against or what to do if I got fired. Part of the reason was that I had been lucky enough to work for good employers (and especially great bosses) who were very fair and I never felt the need to understand my rights because they took care of protecting them proactively through their internal guidelines and implementation.

I realize now that everyone isn't as lucky when I started hearing the horror stories that some of my friends had to endure. If I had continued working for Corporate America (I started my own small business a few years back) I believe that eventually I would have encountered situations where I would need to know my workplace rights. That's where this book comes in. It gives a fantastic overview of almost every law imaginable that could apply to you if you are an employee. It is a very detailed book with countless pages spent on comparing the laws as enforced in various states so you can find your own state law and see the details. A good example is the chapter on wages - there are tables comparing the rules for overtime, meal breaks, minimum wages, etc. for each state. In this chapter, I also found an interesting tidbit of information on meal and break periods. It describes the different situations under which your employer is required to pay for meal time! The entire book is full of helpful and valuable information on your workplace rights. I personally believe that it is good to have this book handy even if you don't need it right now. It makes for interesting reading and you will feel more in control of your behavior at work and not as afraid of your lawful actions. Here's something else to think about - the book has information on the time period in which you can lodge a complaint against your employer after something unlawful has happened to you. Even if you decide not to do anything about something that has happened to you, at least you know the expiration date on your right to complain under the various circumstances! This book also happens to be one of the more inexpensive books from Nolo. If you are new to Nolo books, you will quickly realize that they do a fantastic job of explaining the law in plain English. And they are very detailed. Enjoy!Summary: A classic on workplace rightsRating: 5Updated version of a comprehensive classic on workplace rights from hiring through firing
