Appartment buildings New Concepts

The projects in this book illustrate the latest tendencies in collective housing. Conventional vertical dwellings, buildigns for specific groups and residential complexes share a common spirit: rigour, imagination and respect for both the persons who will occupy them and the environment in which they will be located. The works of Frank Gehry, Claus en Kaan, Deadline (the one on the cover), Calatrava and Shigeru Ban - to name just a few - provide stimulating answers, ingenious solutions, unexpected points of view and proposals that will without doubt influence the conception of residential architecture in the century to come.

The book features detailed studies (multiple plans, photographs and explanatory text) of 38 apartment building projects from all over the world, though mainly Europe. Essential reading for anyone involved in such a project. Helin & Siitonen’s green-roofed Experimental House in Sweden is particularly interesting - green roofs are ace and should be encouraged with extreme prejudice.

Lee Davison, "Fundamentals of Shock Wave Propagation in Solids"
Springer | 2008-06-06 | ISBN: 3540745688 | 433 pages | PDF | 15,7 MB
This book forms an introduction to important aspects of shock-wave propagation in solid materials. Emphasis is on the regime of moderate compression that can be produced by high-velocity impact or detonation of chemical explosives. In this regime relatively simple equations of state are applicable to the description of compression. Solids may also experience inelastic flow, in which elastic–plastic deformation becomes important. The theory provided is that required to conduct research in the field and to pursue its applications to ordnance development, Earth and planetary sciences, materials research

, and other matters. The book includes a careful account of the kinematical and dynamical equations of the subject along with constitutive equations that describe the distinguishing responses of compressible fluids, elastic solids, and elastic–plastic and elastic–viscoplastic solids. The discussion of wave propagation begins with elementary analyses of important problems of the propagation and interaction of plane longitudinal shocks. This is followed by more refined analyses of problems of plane-wave propagation in the aforementioned materials. Finally, spall fracture, wave propagation in porous solids, and detonation phenomena are discussed. Many illustrative problems can be solved without recourse to extensive numerical analysis. The text includes numerous exercises and detailed solutions to these exercises.

"Great for beginners -- even if you don't know object-oriented programming, you can learn from examples on the 'Net and be on your way very soon. You will be able to confidently build apps that rival the ones included by Apple itself." -- Josh Content, iPhone Developer Developers everywhere are eager to create applications for the iPhone, and many of them prefer the open source, community-developed tool chain to Apple's own toolkit. In this new edition of iPhone Open Application Development, author Jonathan Zdziarski covers the latest version of the open toolkit -- now updated for Apple's iPhone 2.x software and iPhone 3G -- and explains in clear language how to create applications using Objective-C and the iPhone API.

Zdziarski, who cracked the iPhone code and built the first fully-functional application with the open toolkit, includes detailed recipes and complete examples for graphics and audio programming, games programming with the CoreSurfaces and CoreImage interfaces, working with iTunes, and using sensors. With the open toolkit and this book, you can build iPhone applications that: Display status bars, preference tables, and other standard elements of the iPhone user interface Play pre-recorded files or program-generated sounds Read and write plain text files and HTML files, including pages from the Web, and control display elements, such as scrollbars Read and respond to changes in orientation when the user turns the phone around

Dan Wellman, "jQuery UI 1.6: The User Interface Library for jQuery"
Packt Publishing | 2009-02-03 | ISBN: 1847195121 | 440 pages | PDF | 5,2 MB
Modern web application user interface design requires rapid development and proven results. jQuery UI, a trusted plugin for the jQuery JavaScript library, gives you a trusted platform on which to build rich and engaging interfaces with maximum compatibility, stability, and a minimum of time and effort.
jQuery UI has a series of ready-made, great-looking user interface widgets and a comprehensive set of core interaction helpers designed to be implemented in a consistent and developer-friendly way. With all this, the amount of code that you need to write personally to take a project from conception to completion is drastically reduced This book has been written to maximize your experience with the library by breaking down each component and walking you through examples that progressively build upon your knowledge, taking you from beginner to advanced usage in a series of easy to follow steps.

In this book, you'll learn how each component can be initialized in a basic default implementation and then see how easy it is to customize its appearance and configure its behaviour to tailor it to the requirements of your application. You'll look at the properties and methods exposed by each component's API and see how these can be used to bring out the best in each component.
Events play a key role in any modern web applications if it is to meet the expected minimum requirements of interactivity and responsiveness, and each chapter will show you the custom events fired by each component and how these events can be intercepted and acted upon.
Approach
An example-based approach leads you step-by-step through the implementation and customization of each library component and its associated resources in turn. To emphasize the way that jQuery UI takes the difficulty out of user interface design and implementation, each chapter ends with a `fun with' section that puts together what you've learned throughout the chapter to make a usable and fun page. In these sections you'll often get to experiment with the latest associated technologies like AJAX and JSON.
