Paul Fifield, "Marketing Strategy Masterclass: Implementing Market Strategies" Butterworth-Heinemann | 2008 | ISBN: 0750686316 | 628 pages | PDF | 4,9 MB
This is a highly structured and fully developed practical companion to Fifield's successful Marketing Strategy- now entering its third edition. It can however stand alone for those executives whose needs are for guidance on implementing marketing strategy rather than doing the background thinking and covering the key conceptual issues.
Taking the same underlying format as Marketing Strategy the book does not cover the 'corporate/business strategy' content (which takes up Part 2 of the earlier title) but focuses overwhelmingly on the practical details of using a real strategy model (SCORPIO) to develop a plan.
The book will be in three parts all based on how to research, create and then activate a strategic market plan. Great emphasis is placed on the clarity of the planning model- used internationally with major companies and refined over many years. Important elements for the user of the book will be the use of-
* Questionnaires and feedback techniques
* Templates that can be used to create real plans as the user works through
the model
* A huge range of FAQs that stimulate and support thinking based on
widespread company experience
This is a real and practical masterclass for serious executives and students, to be used alongside Strategic Marketing or independently.
* Linked to the author's highly successful and influential Marketing
Strategy title- recently published in it's 3rd edition
* Highly practical approach written by a widely published advisor to
major international businesses who also holds a senior academic post
* Based on the unique SCORPIO model supported by 20 years of use in the
international strategy market
* All the tabular, template, diagrammatic and questionnaire materials will be available to users in electronic form

Luis Santos Pereira, Ian Cordery, Iacovos Iacovides, "Coping with Water Scarcity: Addressing the Challenges" Springer | 2009-04 | ISBN: 1402095783 | 382 pages | PDF | 17 MB
One of the main problems confronting the world of the 21st Century is a shortage of water. There is already severe scarcity in many regions of the world, causing tremendous problems for local populations and indeed entire societies. There is insufficient water available for the production of food to alleviate poverty and starvation; the lack of water hampers industrial, urban and tourism development, forcing restrictions on other sectors, especially agriculture; health problems arise as the deterioration of ground and surface waters favours water-borne diseases, which flourish in the absence of decent water distribution and sewerage systems. Water conflicts still arise in areas under stress, while water for nature has become a vanishing priority in such zones.
This book is a guide to the establishment of regional and/or local guidelines for developing and implementing new ideas for coping with water scarcity. The basic premise underlying the book is that water scarcity will persist, so personal, human and society-wide skills will be needed to cope with it while living in harmony with the necessary environmental constraints. The book provides basic information to assist decision makers, water managers, engineers, agronomists, social scientists and other professions (and their students) in formulating coherent, hopefully harmonious and consolidated views on the issue. Guidelines are also given for introducing the general public to the concept of water scarcity and how to deal with it.

Software Radio: A Modern Approach to Radio Engineering By Jeffrey H. Reed Publisher: Prentice Hall PTR 2002-05 | 592 Pages | ISBN: 0130811580 | DjVu | 3.5 MB
Appropriate for all courses in radio design/engineering. Students with an electrical engineering background in basic circuit analysis, computer architecture, and communications will have sufficient background for all chapters in this book.
Radios, once implemented purely in hardware, are increasingly built using programmable digital signal processing (DSP) devices that enhance device flexibility, simplify manufacture, and reduce costs। This is the first comprehensive educational resource for students who want to learn the latest techniques for building software radios for wireless systems and devices. It introduces the key concepts of software radio design, and covers every issue and technique engineers must understand to successfully utilize DSP in their radio systems, including key interactions amongst analog and digital subsystems. Coverage includes: the central role of multirate DSP in software radio design; advanced digital processing techniques for constructing RF front-ends; direct digital synthesis of modulated waveforms; A/D and D/A converters and conversion processes; and smart antennas and adaptive array algorithms. The author also offers practical guidance for choosing among DSP microprocessors, FPGAs, and ASICs; as well as a systematic, object-oriented approach to programming software-based radios.

The Marginal Cost of Public Funds: Theory and Applications Publisher: The MIT Press | ISBN: 0262042509 | edition 2008 | PDF | 332 pages | 1,7 mb
The marginal cost of public funds (MCF) measures the loss incurred by society in raising additional revenues to finance government spending. The MCF has emerged as one of the most important concepts in public economics; it is a key component in evaluations of tax reforms, public expenditure programs, and other public policies. The Marginal Cost of Public Funds provides a unified treatment of the MCF, carefully developing its theoretical foundations in a variety of contexts and describing its application to a wide range of policies--from excise taxes in Thailand to public sector borrowing in Canada and the United States.
The Marginal Cost of Public Funds develops the basic theory of the MCF within the framework of public economics and shows how it is related to the traditional measures of the efficiency loss from distortionary taxation. The MCF concept is then applied to the major sources of revenues for governments--sales and excise taxes, taxes on labor income, taxes on the return to capital, public sector borrowing, and intergovernmental grants. This book will be an essential reference for economists and public policy analysts both in and out of government. Exercises and recommendations for further reading at the end of each main chapter highlight its usefulness as a supplementary text in advanced undergraduate or graduate courses in public economics.

Yanping Xie, Duan-Duan Li, "Schaum's Outline of Chinese Vocabulary" McGraw-Hill | 2002-05-23 | ISBN: 0071378359 | 304 pages | PDF | 19,4 MB
This companion volume to Schaum's Outline of Chinese Grammar features a clear, concise, and proven format to help students with any course in Chinese, plus 200 sets of practise exercises and Chinese glossaries.
"I've studied Mandarin (off and on... too much off) for about twelve years. I have many books that teach me obscure Chinese history or the names of Chinese minority groups' clothing and holidays. But I have sketchy knowledge of many fundamental words, like "water faucet." This book systematically plows through commonly used vocabulary. It tells you, for example, how to say "web browser" and "mouse" in Chinese (which I find essential for showing my in-laws how to use a computer). And, unlike a Mandarin pictorial dictionary I have that displays only Chinese characters, this book also has pinyin and uses the words in sentences.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who can pronunce pinyin and wants to build up a practical vocabulary." - reader's review.

Introduction to Multivariate Statistical Analysis in Chemometrics Publisher: CRC | Pages: 464 | 2009-02-17 | ISBN 1420059475 | PDF | 7 MB
Using formal descriptions, graphical illustrations, practical examples, and R software tools, Introduction to Multivariate Statistical Analysis in Chemometrics presents simple yet thorough explanations of the most important multivariate statistical methods for analyzing chemical data. It includes discussions of various statistical methods, such as principal component analysis, regression analysis, classification methods, and clustering.
Written by a chemometrician and a statistician, the book reflects both the practical approach of chemometrics and the more formally oriented one of statistics. To enable a better understanding of the statistical methods, the authors apply them to real data examples from chemistry. They also examine results of the different methods, comparing traditional approaches with their robust counterparts. In addition, the authors use the freely available R package to implement methods, encouraging readers to go through the examples and adapt the procedures to their own problems.

Ton J. Cleophas, Aeilko H., Ph.D. Zwinderman, Toine F. Cleophas "Statistics Applied to Clinical Trials" Springer-Verlag | 2009-04-12 | ISBN: 1402095228 | PDF| Pages 584 | 7.3mb |
The previous three editions of this book, rather than having been comprehensive, concentrated on the most relevant aspects of statistical analysis. Although well-received by students, clinicians, and researchers, these editions did not answer all of their questions. This updated and extended edition has been written to serve as a more complete guide and reference-text to students, physicians, and investigators, and, at the same time, preserves the common sense approach to statistical problem-solving of the previous editions.

Andrew Lih "Wikipedia Revolution, The: How a Bunch of Nobodies Created the World's Greatest Encyclopedia" Hyperion | 2009-03-17 | ISBN: 1401303714 | pages | PDF | 1,9 MB
Since Wikipedia was launched online in 2001 as "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit," it has blossomed to more than a billion words spread over 10 million articles in 250 languages, including 2.5 million articles in English, according to Wikipedia cofounder Wales in the foreword. Lih, a Beijing-based commentator on new media and technology for NPR and CNN, researched Wikipedia and collaborative journalism as a University of Hong Kong academic, and he has been a participating "Wikipedian" himself for the past five years. He notes the site has "invigorated and disrupted the world of encyclopedias..
. yet only a fraction of the public who use Wikipedia realize it is entirely created by legions of unpaid and often unidentified volunteers." Other books have surfaced (How Wikipedia Works; Wikinomics), but Lih's authoritative approach covers much more, from the influence of Ayn Rand on Wikipedia cofounder Jimmy Wales and the "burnout and stress" of highly active volunteer editor-writers to controversies, credibility crises and vandalism. Wales's more traditional earlier encyclopedia, the peer-reviewed Nupedia, began to fade after he saw how Ward Cunningham's software invention, Wiki (Hawaiian for "quick"), could generate collaborative editing. Tracing Wikipedia's evolution and expansion to international editions, Lih views the encyclopedia as a "global community of passionate scribes," attributing its success to a policy of openness which is "not so much technical phenomenon as social phenomenon." Daniel Pinchbeck, Ken Jordan, "Toward 2012: Perspectives on the Next Age" Tarcher | 2008 | ISBN: 1585427004 | 368 pages | PDF | 1,4 MB
From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. In his introduction to this wide-ranging collection, author and "psychonaut" Pinchbeck (2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl) reaffirms his hypothesis that, based on Mayan predictions
, "December 12, 2012 may usher in a new world age" necessitating a "rapid evolution of collective intelligence" in order to avoid cataclysm. A year ago, Pinchbeck and collaborator Jordan (an "online pioneer") launched the web journal Reality Sandwich to bring together the diverse range of voices exploring "current processes of spirtual and material transformation... usually outside the mainstream." This anthology culls 36 wide-ranging essays from the site covering everything from metaphics to geopolitics in sections on Community, Art, Sex and the Shamanic. Alberto Villodo describes the healing practices of "jaguar medicine"; John Major Jenkins looks at how hallucinogens explain Mayan astronomical discoveries; ST Frequency dresses down "pseudo-shaman" Carlos Castaneda, whose drug tourism threatens indigenous Mexican cultures. Closer to home, a writer who goes by Homegrown Evolution gives tips on how to grow guerilla gardens on vacant lots, and Ken Jordan writes an appreciation of Abbie Hoffman, the '60s activist who brought the NYSE to a halt by showering money on the "suits." Not every essay will connect, but anyone interested in the future or the fringe should find some thought-provoking reading among them.

George Friedman, "The Next 100 Years: A Forecast for the 21st Century" Doubleday | 2009 | ISBN: 038551705X | 272 pages | PDF | 6,4 MB
From Publishers Weekly
With a unique combination of cold-eyed realism and boldly confident fortune-telling, Friedman (Americas Secret War) offers a global tour of war and peace in the upcoming century. The author asserts that the United States power is so extraordinarily overwhelming that it will dominate the coming century, brushing aside Islamic terrorist threats now, overcoming a resurgent Russia in the 2010s and 20s and eventually gaining influence over space-based missile systems that Friedman names battle stars. Friedman is the founder of Stratfor,
an independent geopolitical forecasting company, and his authoritative-sounding predictions are based on such factors as natural resources and population cycles. While these concrete measures lend his short-term forecasts credence, the later years of Friedmans 100-year cycle will provoke some serious eyebrow raising. The armed border clashes between Mexico and the United States in the 2080s seem relatively plausible, but the space war pitting Japan and Turkey against the United States and allies, prognosticated to begin precisely on Thanksgiving Day 2050, reads as fantastic (and terrifying) science fiction. Whether all of the visions in Friedmans crystal ball actually materialize, they certainly make for engrossing entertainment. (Feb.)
